Brooklyn's version of Central Park. It is so big, you forget that you're in a big city. I think that's the point. They have canoeing/kayaking, tons of open space for sports, kite flying, grilling, picnicking, relaxing. Lots of trails including shaded paths. Few to no cars are allowed on the service roads within the park, so it is very safe and excellent for children and pets. This is a major asset to the community. read more

I mean, what can you say about Prospect Park? The perfect place to chill when Spring is showing it's face, and when it's not hot enough to get to the beach. Plenty of Hi Cuties to go around. I wish there were more bathrooms, though! read more

Beautiful, lovely park. Great to do morning and evening runs. Running around and exploring the park is a real treasure. You can always find hidden, special walkways that leave you feeling you've escaped from the city. read more

Park is a work of art in itself. It is the perfect place to get lost in the wilderness. Designed by Central Park creators Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, Prospect Park is a massive playground in the center of Brooklyn. The area was originally forested, but became open pasture after two centuries of European colonization. Significant stands of trees remained only in the peat bogs centered south of Ninth Street and Flatbush Avenues, and in a large bog north of Ninth Avenue and contained chestnut, white poplar, and oak. Some of these stands were preserved in the Park's Ravine and have been popularized as 'The Last Forest of Brooklyn. The design formula at Prospect Park include elements of both the picturesque and the sublime ideals, the picturesque being represented by the Ravine and its series of pools, waterfalls, and defiles. All the waterways and lakes in Prospect Park are man-made. read more

Prospect Park is a great place in the summer to enjoy the scenery, take a 3.5 mile jog around the park, a bike ride, enjoy the view or a nice walk around the lake or boat house. What many people don't know is that it very active in in the winter as well mostly by bike riders, mothers jogging with the stroller, and joggers. I recommend taking advantage of all that it has to offer to stay active mentally and remain physically healthy read more

Prospect is home for many residents who grew up in Flatbush . However , the public upkeep of the park needs to be better funded. *create more local jobs , keep the air quality cleaner read more

This park is beautiful and I come here all the time with my dog or during summer for smorgasburg. Dog off leash hours are everyday before 9am. If you come during weekdays, you'll find some people like us throwing a ball around, even if it's winter and snowing. It becomes much more crowded on weekends when dogs can mingle! There's a ton of space. Just lookup which areas allow off leash, as not all do. read more

Brooklyn's crown jewel, this park has hosted some of my most memorable events. Curl fest, music concerts and majestic to take in. It is beautiful for family gatherings, the horse trains are great to explore. read more

A well designed park and a welcome break from city life. We live close by and love taking our dog there. Plenty of places to explore including several lakes and pond, playgrounds, hiking trails, a merry ground and more. Including a splash pool in the summer that becomes an ice skating rink in the winter. read more

As Pres. of Bklyn Bass Anglers Club, over the past five years I've noticed a decline in the lakes maintenance, weedlines burned down and structure for fish migration destroyed.. the loss of fish will later mean the loss of park maintenance personnel jobs soon..I know there's proposed reconstruction, but without weedline structure the cycle of forage for bait fish and bass will be destroyed. read more

Nice park for jogging, lots of space, very green. 1 concern- I was going across the park in the middle of the day and it got a little creepy with me being the only person on a trail and some men (homeless and other..) coming out of the woods, what were they doing there? just didn't feel safe, maybe I'm just a chicken... but next time will try more public path read more

Very fortunate to live close to this wonderful park and be able to enjoy piece of nature in middle of Brooklyn

This park is okay in the daytime, and when you have friends and or family with you. Do not arrive at this park after dark or alone after dark. Lots happens in here and walking when it's dark in ANY city park alone is quite dangerous. This park is especially dangerous because it is SO large. Same thing with Central Park (in Manhattan). BEST TIMES to visit---Daylight hours, yes, sunny times, any days, Weekends--most busy. People are riding and walking all over the park during the early weekend hours. Seriously if you are a tourist or alone , you would really benefit yourself by not going into this park after dark. NOTE. I LOVE THIS PARK --when it is safe time to go there. Go during the concerts or the performances , that is fun. Go there when there are events. Join the Prospect Park Alliance to support the park. They have some free tours for members and the tours are totally 1000 percent excellent. They have the bat tour, near the ravine and then the tree tour. OH, I rated this NO for kids -- Explanation. Kids should not be entering this park at any time at all alone --not even teens. If you have a family , go here with your family. If you are a kid or teen, do not go into the park alone. Please, in NYC, people need to know the safety rules . About the star ratings here for this park: MOST rated this park five stars --just for the NATURE, the grass, the lawns, etc. This is one of the few HUGE places to really see and experience nature in one of the largest cities in the USA. So, when you see the five star ratings on this park, remember that's about views and nature but not about safety and security. MOST times during most public events, the park is much safer because more undercover and more police are put on duty to protect the tourists and citizens. So, go there to a public event. ANY tree lovers should def check out the tree tour when it happens. Prospect Park is awesome; stay safe and be wise; enjoy the park in daylight hours and enjoy it when there are public events in there. Try NOT to use the restrooms in this park if you are alone; seriously, don't do it. If it wasn't for the safety factor I would have given this park a FIVE STAR RATING. read more

Great picnic date spot. Of course depends where you go. Here you can find tribal drumming gatherings, satanic dog walkers, fishermen, toy car racers, wild hippies, Frisbee amateurs, and drunk picnickers. Many places to hike, bike, and jog. read more

Overall sensational venue and great experience at this year's Tame Impala concert. Do beware of the bald and bearded fat shit that is on the security team. We brought a proper picnic for dinner including a gourmet pineapple salsa in a glass jar (no glass is permitted) you cannot turn around and go to your vehicle for any reason after placing a toe into the ticket taking zone (similar to feeble minded shit bird TSA agents that "we" for some unknown reason continue to give a sense of power and a windbreaker. In any event we asked a "nice chap" if he would be willing to stow the salsa to take back in our possession upon exit - no problem. Well, the fat shit ate it - I could see him. Just for a bit of a gas upon leaving I inquired as to the whereabouts of our salsa - this bald and bearded fat shit gave me chills as to the depths and depravity of psychopathy - "It's gone - thrown out" you can't miss him he looks like a reject from mall security or your local "public servant" / police department. He is also bald, bearded and fat. read more

The sport of cycling is in a shambles, and we need a few strong legs, a couple of sturdy wheels and a clean urine test to restore America's dignity and allow us to compete in the Tour de France. If you are as tired as I am of watching the utterly painful, and interminable public unraveling of shamed Tour de France loser, Floyd Landis (the only person I can think of in modern athletics who has blamed the presence of synthetic testosterone in his bloodstream on everything from bourbon to a French conspiracy against him), then it's time to act! The bike path inside Prospect Park offers a great introductory course in cycling...not too rigorous, and ripe with plentiful glimpses of the majestic park for the hardworking cyclist to admire in passing. Of course, as any good cycling course should, Prospect Park's bike path has a few endurance obstacles that will challenge a good cyclist to kick their pedals into high gear and elevate their game. There's one hill in particular (it's about 3/4 of the way through the path if you start at the Garfield Street entrance) that is likely responsible for many strained calf muscles and asthma attacks. Once I reach it, I usually have to stop for a few moments before making my ascent so that I can mentally prep myself. Avid cyclists would likely scoff at my difficulty reaching the apex of a hill they'd regard as a mere bump in the road. Personally, I find the climb much less agonizing if I can somehow distract myself for the duration of it. The most effective technique has been an imagined scenario whereby a pack of hungry wallaby's escapes from the Prospect Park Zoo and follows me up the hill in vigorous pursuit of some delicious leaves tucked into my back jeans pocket. Their salivating little wallaby mouths violently snap at my posterior as I pedal for dear life. This works...I swear. There's nothing scarier than a small animal with a big appetite! Cycling enthusiast or not, the Prospect Park bike path has something for even the most novice of riders. Me? I'm firmly in the novice camp since I haven't rode my bike in Prospect park in over 3 years. It's the wallaby's, man. They hold a grudge :( read more

Prospect? That's just to lower your expectations; what you will find is that you will never look at Central Park with the same eyes. Not ridden with tourists or with flocks and flocks of Manhattanites, Prospect Park retains a peaceful contingent of locals; happy families here and there, slopes upon slopes of green without seemingly appearing to end. You see several people doing open BBQ's or just sitting underneath a tree, reading. No noise, no clutter. You can walk and get lost between the trees and the lawns without fearing for that hidden bum on crack or unknown assailant which unconsciously gets into your head when you try to pull that stunt in CP. We walked the equivalent of 16 city blocks with the ironfist intention to get into the paddle-boats; we didn't take the scenic route and yet it was still pretty and soothing; when we finally arrived at the Lake, we had to circumvent it to get to the boathouse, in the way we trekked through a natural trail and found several inlets to the lake, perfect for jogging or just to enjoy with great company. We crossed one of the bridges and headed for Wollman Rink's boathouse, we rented the paddle boat and off we were, and since the lake is huge, you are not confined to paddle around a circumference, but can go and explore little nooks and stretches. One word of advise, try not to upset the many ducks you will find along your way; they may look cute, but the evil urchins bite hard, believe me, I know. And speaking of evil urchins, I tried to locate the famous Prospect Park Dog Run as reviewed by Ryan C. http://www.yelp.com/biz/qNMKHeSnvBvrKt6-ggpL1A#hrid:6wtvw4SxZV4iJiHDFVbloA but alas, to no avail. After a whole day of walking and exhaustion, we exited through Drummer's Grove to find a gathering of people around several drummers, who pummeled their tambourines and drums to a tribal beat, I have MiG as witness that we saw a 70 year old woman shake her hips in a way that would make Shakira green with envy. All in all, I have to say, that despite the fact that I do love Central Park (and the Jackie Onassis reservoir trail is my favorite spot in Manhattan), it has never conveyed the sense of peace that I felt in Prospect Park; THIS is my kind of park, it appeals to all my senses and so, five it is. read more

Great place to explore with the family! Playgrounds, nature walks, and large open fields - it's great for any outdoor activity!

i'm sorry, but this park kicks central parks ass. why? because it's in brooklyn. hot guys playing frisbee along a sprawling set of rolling green hills with bike paths and places to hike, have a picnic, get eaten by mosquitos, get mugged after hours, or just lie on the grass and try to forget that you're in a crazy city. read more

There's something about big parks in the city and this park is no exception. Walking through, you'll find everyone hanging out and having a good time relaxing. There are places to picnic and grill, places to play ball, and places to lounge on the grass. I love it. A great place to relax and enjoy the community. One of the best parts of living in Park Slope.

Lots of field space for ultimate, soccer, baseball... and high-quality turf: not the stuff that fills your shoes with brown pellets and green fake grass. Some theft problems, though, which also leads the parks dept. to lock many of the gates to fields and make it feel less open and park-like. read more

Amazingly beautiful place! Do yourself a favor and visit Prospect Park in Brooklyn with your family and friends.

There's nothing like a park in the middle of a city, even in a neighborhood that is very quaint compared to the likes of some of its Manhattan counterparts. Don't miss the Celebrate Brooklyn! festival, during which BRIC brings in bands and other events. A great place to have a picnic, take a walk with your dog or kids, or just relax and take in the greenness of it all. read more

What can I say about Prospect Park that hasn't already been said? It's a wonderful part of Brooklyn. It's long and winding, and cell phone service sucks, so make sure you know where you're going. They allow BBQing in most areas (but look out for the signs). There's ample room to play team sports if you show up early enough. And yes, you can sneak in a cooler of beers. Everybody does it, and the cops don't care. If you're on a bike, make sure to follow the rules though. Because the cops care about that, and they'll give you a ticket if you mess up. read more

This park is huge!! I love comin here for dates. My church even threw a picnic here. The bbq area is huge but actually nice. For a second u forget ur in Brooklyn read more

Prospect park has got to be the best park Brooklyn, dare I say NY has, well beside Central Park. I've been to prospect park hundreds of times. From horse back riding, to picnics, to when I was younger hanging out after school since my high school, Bishop Ford catholic school was right near the park, or just going for nice long walks in the spring and summer time. Its a HUGE park, with all kind of activities happening during the spring and summer seasons. I just love this place, every time I visit I feel at peace and always feel relaxed. I would give this park 10 stars if I could! Thats how much I love it. Lol read more

Came here for a short film festival. Park is huge. Pretty nice. Event was fun. Wouldn't hang here at night. No lights. Scary. Rape city.

Saturday farmers market was going on and lots of food trucks around in the earlier part of the day and at the Grand Army Plaza. After that I headed into the park.... It is a lovely park and I was only able to visit maybe 1/3 of it today. I laid out by the Picnic house area since there is a bathroom nearby. Even for a sunny Saturday afternoon there is plenty of space to not be too close to 2 year old birthday parties, BBQs blaring oldies but goodies, or flying footballs. I stayed happily for 4-5 hours reading, chatting on the phone, and snacking. There is even free wifi in the park! Great for everyone, singles, couples, families, tourists and everyone else. read more

A beautiful park in the heart of Brooklyn. Its nice and spacious for people to walk their dogs, and play all sorts of games. On a sunny summer day, its the perfect place to go to lounge around and get some sunshine. The nice thing about Prospect Park is that it isn't surrounded by high rises like Central Park. Its a good escape from the claustrophobic city. read more

Prospect Park is an amazing Park. Brooklynites who live near this park are tremendously lucky. If I lived there, running would be a tremendous pleasure. It's such a huge park yet with a perfect design. The outdoor possiblities at Prospect Park are seemingly endless. The trees are beautiful, the people are very nice, and it's just terrific in every way. read more

This is where Dre keeps fit. I run here often.. sometimes I come with my friends we throw the football.. or baseball.. or Frisbee... just a great place to enjoy life. The area itself is so diverse, I love diversity. I think the best thing about the park it that in different areas you see different things.. and people. It's crazy it's like you never see the same thing twice. The best part about Prospect is this hidden back way near a bridge and a big lake/pond/swamp.. It's real private. I think it's like a nature trail area.. I've only been there once and this was like 2 years ago. I'm yet to find my way back. LMAO Darn Shame. read more

The best place in Brooklyn! Love the different sections of the park and the fact Brooklyn has our own oasis such as Manhattan has Central Park. I love the way the park is maintained and have always enjoyed walking, riding my bike and learning to drive there as well. This park has a permanent spot forever in my childhood memory and I remember going on tours of the park and the guides telling us the historical side of the park and also of the Grand Army Plaza monument with the soldiers and sailors memorial arch. Ah, so much history in our fabulous borough of Brooklyn Nd Prospect Park is a place to visit and take in all it has to offer. read more

Great place to get away from the city. I like it because it is more intimate then Central Park and not as crowded. I also feel there are more locals here and not packed with tourists. I also didn't see many horse carriages if any at all (can't remember). As a cyclist, my only wish was that the loops were bigger so it wouldn't become as repetitive. There's some great scenery though. read more

What a beautiful park in the heart of Brooklyn. Saw a lot of people running and biking. I ended up parking in a lot and walking to the prospect park zoo with my mother. If you are just in the mood to take a walk or some fresh air, this is the spot, there are some no nos (1)At night look out for the guys crewing other guys which is cool if you are into that lol (2) Be careful and be alert when it gets dark; this goes for any outdoor / open air place.
