I love fried chicken and it's pretty hard to go wrong for me as I even like the kind you get at the grocery store, but this tempura like coating on the chicken did not hit the spot. Flavor was too bland and texture was weird. Not that seasoned crunch I am looking for when I want fried chicken. Maybe some people like this who are into tempura but I need tons of fish sauce to make tempura satisfying and it didn't fix this chicken for me. There's a nice little kick to it, but is mild enough for 90% of all diners. Comparison: Proposition Chicken versus Minnie Bell's/Emeryville Public Market. I'd give the edge to Minnie Bell's even though we don't think their chicken is as good as when they first opened. I come to this place very often. I order the same salad all the time. So today I goto pick up my food and informed the cashier that I live and work in the neighborhood. Which usually applies a discount. I was told she had to ask her supervisor (Ariel). Cashier came back and told me that I couldn't get the neighborhood discount. I let it go and paid, but asked to speak to Ariel. I wanted clarification on the guidelines around the discount I get If I come during the day. She told me that if I worked at the GAP ot trader joes I would be able to get the discount. I asked her was there a specific location that I had to work at in order to get the discount. She replied no and she hasn't seen me before so she can't give it to me. I asked her why was it based on her determining factor whether or not she has seen me or not when I can produce paperwork to show that I live and work on lakeshore. Her manager name is Mike. The sauce that came with the three small pieces of fried chicken was also on the lemony tasting side, just FYI (this is not a good or bad thing). I also ordered potato wedges, but they were severely overcooked because they tasted so rubbery that I didn't even finish them. The fried chicken was very crispy and moist, but the biscuit that I was very excited to eat was just A-OK. The texture was more on the doughy side and not on the flaky/buttery side in case you have a preference for how you like your biscuits. I liked the decor, but was not amazed by what I ate. I was so excited to hear that they had open a location in Oakland. I think that the quality of the chicken is mediocre as are the sides; but my biggest challenge was the level of customer service. I remember the most frustrating interaction with the cashier. I think that customer service or what is considered to be customer service here is no longer in existence. The cashier was really unfriendly and had taken my order incorrectly. I had noticed the issue on my receipt and brought it to her attention and received no apology, nor did she attempt to correct my order. After we got our food we sat by the window in the front of the restaurant. The noke is oddly shaped, but it works for 2 people. Don't know if it would work for 5, as there were 5 seats there. The server that brought us our food was so kind. Making sure we had everything we needed. Also, he showed a lot of pride on how pretty the dishes were prepared by quickly showing the cashier our food, and that made me really happy. The WINGS: Eat the wings right away, their best when their hot! Just my preference, but I would LOVE for them to take a torch to it after the sauce is put on, to caramelize the sauce a bit. I LOVE how they keep the the wing nub on wings. More crispy skin for me to eat. The SALAD: The salad was the highlight of this dish. I believe it was a Kale Ceaser. I liked how it was not overly dressed. I didn't have any of the chicken as the salad was for the boyfriend, be he enjoyed it. I didn't feel like trying the chicken as I am not a chicken breast fan.
