LOL. I read some reviews that raved about the chicken salad, panned the sides, and said they have chronic issues with getting orders wrong. That last part rarely happens to me, so I figured I would order a chicken salad and some strips to go with it. I got it delivered and despite having a receipt with the right name and right order stapled on the bag... I got 2 orders of strips and 2 orders of fries. No salad. So I can confirm that they get orders wrong. It can happen to YOU! Anyway, so on to the food. Not the salad, obviously, but the strips and fries. The strips were not what I expected. The breading is weirdly tough. The chicken itself was juicy, so that's a plus. Flavor is alright, it's well seasoned, maybe a little salty. The fries tasted like bar fries - greasy and delicious. They're thick cut, floppy, and filled with flavor. I'd rate this place quite squarely in the average territory, if a little below. Not sure I'll order again from here though. Tried the fried chicken sandwich and it was tasty. It could be better with more seasoning, but it was moist and perfectly cooked. The coleslaw they put in it was good, too. We have been dying to try this place and today finally came. Not too sure why this place got less than five stars but today they're getting five from me. To get the full experience I ordered the fried chicken entree: three pieces of fried chicken, corn muffin, cucumber salad and side of what I think is buffalo sauce - $12.75. 1. I appreciate the chicken wasn't heavily battered BUT it was well seasoned and the skin was so crunchy. WINNER 2. I don't link cucumbers unless done properly... with that being said, it was done properly. It tasted like it was marinated overnight in the dressing, it was so delicious. 3. For ~$13 dollars, a bad chicken sandwich at a place that specializes in chicken and cold hand cut fries is a shame. They could really be on to something with their vibes, style and quality ingredients - only if they knew how to cook chicken. *sigh* I ordered the chicken sandwich which I actually have to rename, the rubber chicken sandwich. The chicken "breast" was a mere 2 thin cutlets that they fried for it must have been hours on end. I wasn't able to bite through the chicken because it was so tough and dry and overcooked - just look at the picture! My teeth literally squeaked when I tried to chew. I should have read the reviews before I made this mistake, I'm not the only one who noticed the chicken is drier than a cracked heel. Bread was also stale, crap. There were some positive things: hot sauces tasted great (but weren't actually that spicy, which is a con in my book), fries were seasoned well with fresh sage on them, and the batter on the chicken tasted really good. As promised I returned to give this place another try. Went with the salad again because come on, gluten-free fried chicken! And, as I suspected, freshness goes a long away. Been going here for years - great food, and Dareon is a phenomenal human being. Delivery service during covid has been terrible, unfortunately. Over the course of almost half a dozen orders, Prop Chicken has gotten all but one of them wrong. Most recently, we ordered 4 kale salads with bbq tofu and received 4 kale salads with no tofu. When we called to figure out how to get our order corrected after delivery, we were told they couldn't do anything about it and hung up before we could respond. Now instead of 4 fake salads I have 4 kale salads and fake service at best. Disappointed and very frustrated. I know it's a tough time for everyone, and hope that operational and customer service issues like these can be resolved soon. In the meantime, definitely order by calling or going in-person if you can to avoid these issues. read more

I had seen this a while back and haven't gone that particular area in Oakland until recently. I had seen they have a crispy Bbq Tofu and my son recently became vegetarian. I had placed an order on way home from work and it was ready within 15-20 mins. I had ordered 2 Chicken Sandwiches( 1 flipped/ 1 fried), 2 orders of wedge cut fries, an extra honey cornbread. biscuit, and the Bbq Tofu. The people who worked there were friendly and it was non contact pick up. The packages were sealed tight and had everything taped up securely. The Chicken sandwiches were really good and the fried one was crispy, but not too greasy. The biscuit was very good and the wedges we're very good with that amazing seasoning. The food was plenty and portion wise was great but it was a little pricey. I did taste the quality and Love that went into the preparing the Chicken, but it will have to be on specials occasion sorta dinner with the family. Got a take out fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious. I could only eat half due to the huge serving. Nice soft bread. A giant piece of juicy fried chicken that is actually CRUNCHY (even tho it's take out!). Nice amount of slaw to balance out the sandwich. A bit spicy, but I also have zero spice tolerance. A fried chicken sandwich is very hard to do wrong, I mean actually wrong. Most come out in the mediocre middle ground. This however is not one of those cases. The sandwich is very good. It sports a delicious soft bun, topped with delightful coleslaw and the battering on the chicken is not overdone and remains wonderfully juicy. What really makes me love it is for the $11 you get a huge sandwich, with some light crispy chips. So big it will fill me up without an additional side, and I can eat plenty. Love this place. They're open during covid and we usually call our order in and pick-up. Come here every couple of weeks. We usually order the Fried Chicken Sandwich, the Fried Chicken Entree or the Crispy Matzo Ball Soup. The Fried Chicken Entree is pretty substantial, we probably could have split one between the two of us. We always get two matzo ball soups though, we love it too much to split it haha. it's one giant matzo ball, with a side of crispy little toppings in their bone broth, which is super legit. It also has some fresh dill in there, it's a nice touch. Fried Chicken Sandwich is also delish, the slaw is slightly spicy slightly vinegary but a nice contrast to the chicken. The only thing I didn't love was the sage chips, will probably sub fries next time. Also, their sauces are DELICIOUS. Their ranch is sooo good, and there's a Buffalo Blue Cheese sauce that comes with the Fried Chicken Entree that is out of this world. read more

If i was being completely honest i went here for dinner 3 days in a row at one point. but i don't admit that to many people. Now onto the sage fries, WOW, just WOW. never have i ever loved fries so much. i will way every single last fry and then nibble away at every single last peice of sage crumbles. i've had good fries before, but these sage fries are something else. Side note, i'm a huge spicy kinda guy. so minimal amounts of spicy don't really register with my tongue. but from what i was told the chicken sandwiches have a slight spiciness to them (i can't taste it though) but if your like me, and are looking for a bit more in the spicy department, ask them for their hot sauce, it's a bright orange spicy buffalo type of sauce, again it's not the most spicy sauce in the world but it deff steps it up a couple notches for people like me. read more

We ordered 2 fried chicken salads when we stopped by Proposition Chicken for the first time, and were decently impressed with our experience. The ambience was nice, and service was fairly quick. There's a self-service water area, with mason jars of course, as well as options of 2 different hot sauces. They warned us as we ordered that the fried chicken would take roughly 10-15 minutes, which we didn't mind. The bowls of salad came out with a decent proportion for around $11. The bowls were filled with kale, and we requested dressing on the side. Everything was flavorful and the kale wasn't bitter at all. Apparently they often add romaine lettuce but you know, E. Coli. The only thing I'd like them to improve on is the amount of meat actually in each individual chicken piece. Since the breading was on both sides, it was hard to have juicy pieces of chicken that contained more meat than breading. For the price we paid, it was decently worth it, and the food was tasty so I can definitely see myself coming back here. read more

I ordered the chicken sandwich and a cup of bone broth while I was waiting. The broth was delicious and so was the freshly made chicken sandwich. The menu also offers "fake" chicken (tofu) and a rare gluten-free fried chicken option, both which are greatly appreciated and all-too-rare. Kudos!
