this is only my second time here but I'm truly obsessed with this spot. Also they note have happy hour 8-10pm M-Thur and they close at 2am even on weekdays! I won't stop raving at this spot and I am so thankful Bumble brought me here once because I'll keep coming back. Dog-friendly? Say, LESS! I'm there. Because paws before balls. Propagation is a cocktail bar that opened one year into the pandemic. But, this is not just any other cocktail bar in the city. It's like they legit plopped a bar in the middle of a garden because there's plants everywhere. There's nooks, loungers, and couches...and adorable bar dog named Stevie Nicks that Tater Tot was feeling. She wasn't feeling his flouff though. Sorry, TT...you'll have to go home to your teddy bear. The old laundromat sign is still up so be on the lookout for "S.F. Coin Laundry Co." There's a parklet on the side. M E N U Craft cocktails. House cocktails: $15 each. Happy Hour is more like reverse happy hour. During 8 pm - 10 pm: $15 house cocktails are reduced to $12. No food available but grabbed some drunchies from the corner store across the street. Propagation is a garden-centric bar on a corner in the Lower Nob Hill neighborhood. When you walk in you will see all the plants no matter where you look. I seated myself in the corner seat at the bar to hang out for the evening. My first drink was the hoity toity ($15) which is their house Manhattan and it was a strong and good drink. My second drink was the heavens to Betsy ($15) which is their house sazerac and I really liked it as well. It's an aesthetically pleasing neighborhood bar with good drinks and nice bartenders. read more

I know I know.. look at all the positive reviews and let me poop on poor propagation's rating :( I want to love this place, I do. As a person who goes out 3-4 times a week I'd love a cute little spot to start the night out or enjoy libations a a cute first date spot owned by women but unfortunately I just can't do it at propagation. Cute, nice staff, good service and populated but not too much.. so what's wrong? Those drinks I don't know what it is. It's not a particular bartender, doesn't matter what drink on or off the menu they are just bad. It's like someone took all their booze, watered it down and served it through a shoe. I won't go on but test it yourself. Order your favorite drink and give it a taste. My defacto test is a vodka-soda. Hard to mess up unless strong or weak - theirs is just .. off. Maybe get a new distributor? I don't know but I'll be avoiding until I hear otherwise read more

If you like houseplants and cocktails, this is the bar for you! The greenery ambience is unique and feels like you're enjoying a nightcap in the jungle. The bartender was lovely, helpful and knowledgeable. They directed me to several cocktails that perfectly met my palate's expectations. We visited Propagation early in the evening on a weeknight before dinner, and there were definitely other patrons, but it didn't feel too busy. However, it was pretty dark in there, so prepare to bust out your cellphone flashlight. Overall great experience, and I would definitely recommend checking this place out for a chill evening of plants and libations. read more

Every time I come here it seems to get busier but even if you have to stand, the service is pretty good. They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu and while it might be hard to decide if you like the drink due to some of the ingredients, I would highly recommend trying something from the menu. read more

Loved all the drinks that I got from here. Came on a sat night and it wasn't too busy at all. Pretty cool spot to chill and grab some delicious drinks. Cool music and also not too loud. The spot can be a lil small so it's tougher to find seating during prime time but overall not too crowded at all. Favorites were the gardeners daughter, spice spice baby, and night after night. read more

It doesn't catch your attention from outside but when you're inside.. wow. It's like a little oasis with all those plants. So pretty. The music is good. The bartenders are friendly. I like the name of the cocktails, very creative. Also, they are really good and well presented. I would say it's a little bit dark, maybe adding some light would be better to appreciate all the plants. But I still had a great time, I totally recommend this place! read more

Went here with friends and was treated incredibly poorly. The bouncer was performing theatrics outside to make the place look busy, which was already off-putting. Inside, after ordering $100 in drinks, a clearly drunk girl blocked the bar and put her hand over my drink -- completely inappropriate. When I politely asked her to move, her friend accused me of having "bad energy" and complained to staff, who wouldn't even let me explain. Lots of fake smiles and no respect. I left without a scene, but I won't be back -- and I'll be telling others to skip this place too. read more

The vibe is amazing. it's a very chill and welcoming place. All the staff were very friendly. I had two of the limited edition drinks (Chai Toddy and Tough Cookie) which were fantastic. I had my Tough Cookie modified a little bit just to better suit my palate and the bartender was more than happy to help me get it a little sweeter. I wish I lived here so I could come visit this bar again! read more

Have you ever sat in a cuter bar with more house plants than Propagation? Despite the space looking a little dark on the inside, the plants give everything an airy feel and create little nooks for privacy. It was also a really nice spot to just hang out in the early evening though it started to get busy around 730/8pm. The menu is pretty long for a small bar and everything was executed well, though I thought some of the drinks could have been served colder. It was generally delicious though and I'd love to try other items on their menu or ask for their take on some classic cocktails if they do that. Loyal to the soil: this was their take on the paloma and deliciously salty Hoity Toity: their take on the Manhattan. Cute, garden centric neighborhood bar. They love dogs and you're welcome to bring fido inside while you have your after work libation! The vibe is relaxing, tropical and cozy. There's plenty of seating inside and out (huge parklet). Don't remember the drink I had but it was so good. For sure my favorite thing was being able to be indoors with my dog. A must-see for any plant lover, or someone who wants to enjoy a nice craft cocktail while listening to great music. Propagation is nestled in one of SF's less-frequented neighborhoods, but it's worth the journey. Our bartender was so fun to talk to and offered some great recommendations, particularly after asking what was dairy-free. We chatted about some of our favorite cocktails to make and compared notes from bartending in the past. The drinks were so delicious and unique, and honestly fairly priced. We were the only ones inside until around 5:30, when the place filled up out of nowhere. The one thing I wish they had was more seating (particularly chairs with a back) but that's really the only thumbs down I can give! So happy to have found another trustworthy spot in the city. read more

This place has been on my list for a while but it didn't live up to my expectations. While it does have a nice ambiance, I agree with some of the reviews that the service is not good. It took a long time to get acknowledged at the bar -- even without other customers and once the bartender did acknowledge us, she was unwelcoming and rude. When we did get our drinks, the presentation/taste was good but the candied orange smelled like gas (likely from the butane) that I had to throw it out. Not worth the wait, too many other bars in the area at least with friendlier vibes. read more

Absolutely love the ambiance here! Every area of the bar is surrounded by a variety of plants with an abundance of seating area. Other than the bar itself, they have couches and stools scattered throughout the indoors. My friend and I came on a weekday night so it was pretty empty - they have security once it got later in the evening which is nice considering the neighborhood. The drinks we ordered were both very strong so if you are not into strong flavors, you should ask the bartender beforehand. read more

Propagation is a cute bar with lots of plant decor, really feels like you're in the woods. I came for their late night happy hour (8-10pm). It was a little empty on Wednesday night but I'd imagine it gets more packed on the weekends. Honestly I didn't think their happy hour specials were that great (still $12 for a drink) but it is cheaper than regular price I guess. The drinks were tasty though, and service was great! read more

This is a woman owned cocktail bar that we discovered while exploring SF/not far from union square. We were attracted by the plethora of plants everywhere in the restaurant. They were closed during the day when we saw it but we made it our mission to come back at night and we weren't disappointed! We had a cute window seat with two cozy armchairs flanked by all the plants. Then had the most delicious cocktails-mine had aloe and cucumber. It was so refreshing. I would love another right now! This was a nice spot for a drink before going out to dinner. The drinks all had fun names and tasted good but nothing out of the ordinary. The plants spread throughout the room gave the bar a nice feeling which was unique. The service was just okay, I had to grab my own menu and the bartender didn't make anything feel welcoming. The music also was blaring and was a bunch of mashups of popular songs. Which kind of ruined the chill plant filled vibe. Not sure I would return here but it was pretty to check out. read more

This bar kinda makes me miss first dates. It has that super dark, sexy date night spot allure. Their cocktails are all pretty unique and I enjoyed most of them. My favorite was the cold brew with pistachios and cream. I've been on a milky/creamy cocktail kick for a while. I do wish that I had a spoon to go with it since all the pistachios and cream get stuck on the bottom/ice... and it's unsightly to see me tongueing/fingering my cup. Parking is a little sketch in the neighborhood since it is tendernob after all. Just be smart and don't leave anything in your car. read more

Cute little bar at the corner. Really loved our first bartender, she was fun and recommended drinks. The other bartender was ok, she just wanted to get through work, nothing wrong with that! Anyhow, nice decoration and props inside. Its different. Bar at the end on the right and several smaller tables on the left. They had seasonal drinks too! Amazing amazing place!!! The environment is great, full of plants and every section feels pretty private. The service was also amazing, there was only one person behind the bar and even though the bar was almost full, they were able to make greats drinks very quickly! Went there on a Friday night and there was only one bartender. We waited patiently for her to take our order. She was so incredibly and unnecessarily rude and passive aggressive. No one rushed or got impatient with her. But she was just awful. Why would you employ someone who doesn't like people and likes to just be rude to people for no reason. Honestly ruined an other wise great spot for us. read more

First time here with some old co-workers, and it ended up being the perfect night cap for us before we parted ways! After eating dinner, we were looking for one last spot to grab a drink, and someone recommended Propagation, and I'm glad we did. Turns out they have a Happy Hour from 8-10PM, which is select cocktails for $12. Which in SF is still a really good deal! They have a very unique and diverse array of cocktails. Being that I love mezcal, I decided to go with the knock on wood, which was delicious. The presentation was on-point and the Thai salted glass and fresh cut watermelon was an added bonus. As for ambiance, if you love plants, this is the spot for you. The whole bar is covered in beautiful plants, and it feels like you are stepping into some type of jungle. We were able to grab seats on the singluar coach and it was super comfortable and relaxing way to catch up with friends. For the customer service, it was top notch. Sydney was our bartender and she made the drinks quick, beautifully, and strong. Definitely adding this bar to my rotation for when I find myself back in this area! read more

What a beautiful plant oasis! It's a little low-key because the sign is for a coin-op laundry, but you can't miss the giant windows filled with plants. When you walk in, you're transported into a plant paradise. Best of all - the drinks are delicious! It's a perfect place to grab a cocktail and catch up with a friend. There are a lot of little nooks so it feels cozy. And insider tip - you can bring in outside food. The BEST is Aria Korean Street Food around the corner. Combining the two is heaven. read more

Easily one of the trendiest bars I've been to. Walked in and just found this bar online not really knowing what to expect. We just were looking for somewhere to go out. To our surprise, this place was AWESOME. Firstly the aesthetic inside was so cool - there was so much to take in. There were ton's of plants all over the place, and seating with mixed between floor seating and some seating on an elevated platform. Not to mention the bar seating too. We went on a late Friday night so it was fairly packed. We ordered drinks still pretty quickly at the far. There was such an awesome selection of mezcal based cocktails which are my all time favorite. See the photos! They're mouth watering and self explanatory. Hidden speakeasy in nob hill w/a wide assortment of cocktails and lots of open seating. Came here spontaneously on a Wednesday night, happened to also be happy hour, which gives $12 cocktails instead of $15 on some items (not the best happy hour I'd say). Definitely a unique bar worth checking out if you're looking for a very chill, lowkey night with friends (or maybe for a first/second date). NOTE: if you are lost, the storefront doesn't say propagation very clearly, I believe it looks sort of like a plant shop/laundromat from the outside. My friends and I tried out the Thriller Spiller Filler, which was delicious (and very picturesque) but definitely on the sweeter side. Would probably try a different one next time! read more

The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

A bit of heads up for the onsite process would have been appreciated, as the manager I had been communicating with was not there. Another manager stepped in though, and was informed of the event and executed it without incident. Service: We had an excellent service, Ivan, was there to help our guests with drinks and they arrived, and he was very accommodating to non-alcoholic guests. Food: amazing food, fired up when we were ready to eat and it just kept coming until we were full. Space: we secured a private space with a fantastic view of the city and bay, plenty of seating for side bar conversations or group conversations.

I advised the man that the club was still open at the moment (they had about 5 mins left) and that we actually were heading out then. I also told him that he didn't have to speak to my friends like that - after he had just been joking around with them moments before. Instead of taking accountability, he immediately got an attitude with me and stated that he didn't care about that and it was time to go. Another female guard then popped up randomly and essentially told me to "fix my delivery" and that the man was her brother. To which I replied, that they were both ultimately in the wrong. I understand wanting to leave work but being rude and distasteful towards paying customers isn't the way to do jt. I hope they hire better employees it was a nice place!

Mind you, we'd been there for almost two hours at this point and nobody had mentioned anything about our spot being reserved, and there was no sign holder indicating it either. It was also advertised as a "no cover" event, so curious to know how reservations were even made. He told us we could move over to the wall; which we discovered was right next to the restrooms and the line of users. Not cool. We then noticed that the larger group had spread out and taken our spot; were we supposed to believe these were the supposed "reservation" holders and not just your friends? Overall, just another mediocre bar that caters to the people they know. Not much concern for new customers, so we have no interest in returning or recommending to anyone. Plenty of other bars in the city; better bars that won't make you feel inferior.

Later during last call, I decided to risk it all and roll the dice to order from the secret menu. I rolled a 5, which got me a wine & Japanese beer concoction with Sichuan peppercorn. Totally feel like this cocktail was made for me, as I rep the 川渝 region. The drink was strong, but that made it all the better. Can't wait to come again and explore more of the menu behind the password-protected iykyk entrance.

My boyfriend ordered Wild Turkey 101, the bartender was determined to find it but unfortunately they were not able. They did however recommend a wonderful whiskey that he enjoyed just as much.
