3.375 stars. I am not sure how this place has such high ratings on Yelp. There are about 6 bubble tea places in a block or two in Old Town Pasadena and Prolece tea had great ratings so we went in. The space is pitiful -- you're made to order on a screen (I don't think you could choose to *not* order on a screen) and the worker/s are separated from the customers with lots and lots and lots of plexiglass. It felt sort of like they were in a vending machine and we were on the outside of it. Drinks were OK nothing special -- I didn't finish my oolong boba tea and my partner loved his taro smoothie with boba. Again, my main gripe is with how the place is set up--I don't mind informal, but this store felt like a tea store built during and for Handmaid's Tale times (which maybe apropos now that we are living in those times). read more

I ordered their Mango Tango, which is more of an ice-blend slushy. It wasn't super sweet and had a perfect ice-liquid ratio. Their Mango Tango is refreshing to drink on a nice, hot summer day. My big concern is that they were not only preparing the drinks without gloves but also the food. Although I did not order the food, I witnessed the servers prepare an order of Popcorn Chicken without gloves. Despite the safety guidelines they put in place for their customers (6 ft. apart and limited capacity inside), they have failed to enact safety guidelines for preparing foods/drinks - which causes me to give 4/5 stars. First time coming here and found this place on Yelp because it seems like this is one of the very few boba places that are open during the covid-19 lockdown in Pasadena. I ordered the Hazelnut Rose Milk Tea because it has two of my favorite flavors together. It was pretty good and I was not disappointed! I did 75% sweetness and I think it would have been the perfect drink if I did 50% (the sweet level is always a hit or miss for me whenever I go to a boba place for the first time). The hazelnut cheese foam was really good and it actually blended well with the rose milk tea. The guy at the counter was nice and informative as well, and made the drink in a jiffy. It was 100 degrees out and in the late afternoon. I wanted something cold and refreshing but without the caffeine. The gentleman at the counter offered me several options that were caffeine free. I decided on the strawberry raspberry tea with aloe add in at 50% sweet. This was the perfect treat. It wasn't overly sweet and I can taste the floral notes of the tea without worrying that I'm going to be wired later, since it's decaf. The cups are super cute and comes with a little heart stopper. Not a bad spot to grab some tea. Came in since I saw it passing by so wanted to check out what they had. Got 2 drinks grapefruit blaze and grass garden both of which are pretty good. I really enjoyed the grapefruit one and the grass garden I would see it as a summer drink where on a hot day it would be really refreshing. The location is next to cheesecake factory so would recommend to park at the 90 minutes free parking since street parking would be difficult to find. The employee was really helpful and helped answer any questions I had. Grapefruit is on the sweeter side so if you like the sour taste then get it with less sugar if you want less sugar in it. We appreciated the young gentleman running the cash register that night who not only provided great recommendations, but also had a welcoming personality that made us feel at ease in an instant. We ordered the green milk tea with tiramisu foam, thanks to his advice, and we're so happy we did! While it did take some time for our drink to be served, it was clearly made with care. The tiramisu foam is incredibly thick and will most certainly give you a foam mustache if you drink from the open lid. However, that lid is not good for driving unless you want milk tea splashing all over your seat. The tea base was creamy and had the perfect level of sweetness. Drinks: Love that they brew the tea fresh for their drinks! It might make the process a little slower but it's worth it. TRY THE SAMPLES! They usually have 2-3 different carafes of drinks that are available for samples. It seems like they switch up the flavors every day so it's a great way to try multiple drinks. I've had the Genmaicha Milk Tea and the Lychee Berry and they were both great. Genmaicha is one of my favorite teas but I don't often see it at boba shops, so I was excited to see it! The Lychee Berry was refreshing but a little pricy so I might get it every once in a while. Parking: There's a 90 minute free lot across the street that I usually park at. Sometimes there's also street parking on Green St. Protip: They give a discount if you bring your own cup! I went in for the popcorn chicken. I ordered the medium spicy. It was really tasty! And after I ate 1/2 of it, VERY spicy! Too hot for me at this point - my lips were - so I ordered a mild popcorn chicken and an oolong non-dairy milk tea at 25% sweet. It too met my expectations. The oolong flavor was strong, yet it wasn't super sweet. Just enough. So why 1 star? Ambiance. It's a small little spot, without servers. No one greeting you and taking orders. Just a computer screen. It's a trend at these kinds of fast food joints but I don't like it. 1 star off for that. Thought the cook was nice and helpful when I asked for a napkin. Ok, A for effort. Night we came only one employee working hard and courteous to everyone. He deserves extra credit. The teas were ok to really good. We tried 6 of them. My Tiramisuntra should not have had ice in the bottom, whereas the lychee black should have had more. The hazelnut milk tea was disappointing- could be like Nutella explosion in the right hands. I decided to try out Prolece Tea after seeing its great ratings on yelp. The store itself is quite small and clean. The cashier welcomed me with a friendly smile and was efficient in making my drink. Also, let's talk about discounts! You can get 10% off if you're a student and 15% off with your check in. You can't however use both at the same time which is definitely understandable. At the end, my total was $5.10 which is somewhat on the expensive side when it comes to boba. I ordered the earl grey milk tea with pearls (75% sweet). The milk tea itself isn't too sweet and on the balance beam of tea and milk, leans slightly toward more of a tea flavor. The tapioca pearls are chewy and they give a lot of it. By the time I had it, 1/4 of it was super soggy and wet. The cookie itself was whatever. Their tiramisu foam somehow reminded me of the rum raisin ice cream flavor lol. It wasn't bad, I liked it. It also came with marshmallows. As for their milk tea, it's not on the heavy cream side and you can taste the tea. I opted for 50% sugar and it was perfect with the foam so it wasn't too sweet or bitter. I also sampled their grapefruit breezy. That was soooooooo sweet and sugary. Kinda like a syrup consistency. There were about 3 small, circular tables and one larger table if you wanted to study or hang out. I probably wouldn't come back to get this drink. My friends and I wanted to hang out a bit more in old town Pasadena but all the nearby boba shops all had a closing time of 7 PM. Prolece was the only place that had a much later closing time. We decided to buy boba from Prolece and walk around Colorado for a while. I got the Rose Green Tea, 50% sweet with no boba. My friends ordered various milk teas. There was only one person working in the entire place, which I felt a bit bad for. Prices are definitely high but to be honest, that's just the state of the world today. Costs are continually going up, what can you do? The drink, in my opinion was way too sweet even with the 50% sweet. In fact, all my friends confessed that their drinks were extremely sweet even after ordering it with less sugar. Prolece has a huge menu so they definitely cater to all kinds of customers. I think if I do go back, which I probably will as they are the rare business that closes so late, is that I will order with much less sugar, like 25%. read more

It didn't come with lady fingers or marshmallows like the pictures suggested, but was tasty enough for me to overlook that. The store is also really cute with canisters of tea lining the counter. OK I haven't even tried my drink and food yet and I'm impressed (don't worry, I'm still going to review the drink and food when it comes in a minute). So, super cute little cafe, not too noisy, right across from 90 minutes of free parking, free samples, super sweet employee, 20% for Yelp check-in and... CHEESE FOAM ( unfortunately my sleepy little suburb of Glendora still has not yet discovered cheese foam)! I don't think I could ask for much more. OK, I spread my wings and tried the iced sakura green tea with cheese foam and lychee jelly (I usually get almond milk tea w/boba) and it was yummy. Tea was delicate and not too sweet. Cheese foam was perfect. I got the combo w/fries. I asked for no spice, and there really was NO spice. So I asked for a little spice--my bad! That spice, is really spice!! I think I was expecting more like a garlic salt or something b/c that's what most boba cafes do with their fries, but this was like cayenne pepper, I think. So just be aware. It was my first time at Prolece Tea after having ramen in old town. I ordered the strawberry kiss based on how pretty the drink looked. I love how they use real strawberries so you know you're drinking something healthy. The drink consisted of blended strawberries with green tea and cheese foam on top. The cheese foam was an absolute nice touch to the drink making it a bit more sweet and fun to drink. I got it at 50% sweet with no boba. At 50% sweet, it was good enough for me since the cheese foam was sweet as well, but next time I will be trying it at 75% sweet with boba included. I can't wait to be back in old town so I can drink this again. However, I do have to say that my only complaint is that I did notice there was an eyelash in my cheese foam. I know this was an accident by whoever made the drink, but I really do hope I don't see an eyelash again next time because I do plan to get it again and the drink is pretty tasty! read more

Prolece Tea is one of my favorite boba shops in the NELA/Pasadena area! I specifically come here for their cheese foam because they DO IT RIGHT! My go-to drink is the Strawberry Kiss. It's basically a strawberry smoothie (possibly blended with tea but I'm not 100% sure) with cheese foam on top. It is to DIE FOR and I could totally drink two of these if I were really thirsty or craving it. Some places aren't great at nailing cheese foam but I would definitely say Prolece is one of the best places I've tried so far. I recently went during COVID-19 and they were very safe and all staff were wearing PPE which I approved. It was takeout only so I ended up calling in for my order so that it was ready when I arrived. The only thing I don't love is the parking in the area isn't great since it's in Old Town.
