Friendly staff and great matcha! It lives up to its popularity and is definitely worth the wait. The matcha color is a vibrant, dark green and was not gritty at all. The tart from the raspberry worked beautifully with the sweetness of the vanilla and umami from the matcha. The cafe is open and you can see the baristas measuring and hand whisking each drink.
If you like matcha and don't mind street parking and a potential line, this is the place for you! I went in and it was busy, but the line moved at a good pace. I ordered the strawberry matcha drink with almond milk and it was good, but it was more of a matcha latte with a hint of strawberry. I think if it was a little stronger on the strawberry I'd have enjoyed it more. The service was quick and to the point (ie no simple pleasantries), there was seating but I would say it gives quick seating vibes. Overall I'd go back but I'd probably try a different drink.
I kept seeing Project Matcha all over TikTok, and so many locals recommended it too, so I had to check it out! The café has such a cool, calm vibe. The line was long (which I expected), but it moved surprisingly fast. The girls behind the bar were incredibly sweet and honestly made the experience unforgettable. We told them we were visiting from Orlando, and they went out of their way to share their favorite local spots with us. That kind of kindness really stood out. And of course, the matcha was a 10/10. Definitely worth the visit and I can't wait to go back again!
I go to Project Matcha all the time, I'm obsessed with their drinks. I'm not sure how I've never left a review for them before. They're always busy, and typically have a line out the door, but they work through the line relatively quickly, so I never feel like I'm waiting a super long time.
I visited on a weekday afternoon with some friends. There was a small line. The interior is bright and airy with seating and tables. The vibes are reminiscent of ROK in Los Angeles. We tried a variety of drinks and they were all delicious. All of the advertised flavors came through. Honestly, I have no notes. The workers were also friendly and worked efficiently to get the long lines moving. I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area!
This place is so cute, perfect for catching up with a friend or two. I wouldn't recommend taking a big group. There are tables inside and outside which is nice. The line was a decent length, but they moved quickly. I got the raspberry matcha and the raspberry was delicious. I am excited to go back and try the strawberry. The matcha was good but not the best I've had. I'd still go back here!
Good quality matcha and unique flavor combinations. However, I don't think all matcha flavors are made equally and it really depends on what you get & what milk type. I would recommend dairy milk if you can handle it as it tastes much better than the non-dairy in my opinion. The inside is very aesthetic but not the best place to hang as it gets guys quickly.
Project Matcha is good, but I don't think I would wait in line for 45 min again. Portland is in her matcha craze, and Project Matcha is the popular girl in high school. With the recent opening of their second location, there is a Project Matcha no matter what side of the river you're on. Although this does not negate the lines! Despite being insanely busy, all the employees were extremely friendly and answered questions without annoyance. I got the ube latte with a shot of matcha and it was good! The ube was not too sweet and paired well with the matcha, which was strong and unsweetened. Prices are steep imo, but that is not surprising (in this economy?!). There are other matcha places I like better in Portland, but I was glad to have tried them! I would come back though, just not on a weekend.
Very average unfortunately. I had been waiting to try this spot for awhile and maybe I hyped it up too much in my head but the matcha itself was pretty underwhelming. I ordered an iced matcha (unsweetened) with whole milk. The staff was great, friendly, and knowledgeable and were super speedy. One employee makes your drink for you while the other checks you out at the register so it's a very efficient process despite how busy they always are.

Banana Cream Matcha - not our favorite banana matcha, but it's pretty good. Banana flavor was present yet not overwhelming of the matcha. Banana tends to be pretty strong so the ratio here is amazing. Matcha quality is high, whisked well and very smooth. Grassy undertones mixed with sweet banana make this a solid first impression. Double Matcha - for the matcha fanatics, this combines a matcha latte with a matcha cream top and both are delicious. The cream top is smooth, a bit thick, and extremely flavorful. Concentrated matcha in the small layer resting on top help wake the taste buds. Visiting project matcha for a double matcha just makes sense.

There was a very long line when we got there, but I felt like the line doesn't move too slowly. There's not a ton of seating here, so it's more of a grab-and-go kind of place. My best friend and I ended up getting multiple drinks and these were our favorites: -project matcha latte strawberry matcha latte -coconut matcha cloud They were all SO delicious. I ended up getting the coconut matcha cloud twice because the combination was so delicious and refreshing. The matcha quality here is really good. I wished I was visiting longer so that I could've tried more of their drinks! I highly recommend this place. The vibes were fantastic and staff were very friendly too.

worth the hype, dare i say i got the raspberry specialty matcha & it was incrediblee on top of being so pretty! and the workers are sweet and the shop is so cute! it's also downtown so it's street parking, but not too bad, i was able to find cheap street parking that was only like a two minute walk during a busy lunch hour !! read more
I'm not a very big matcha person, but I've heard all the hype about Project Matcha, so I decided to check it out. The staff was super friendly and helpful when helping me pick my matcha flavors! I ended up getting the strawberry matcha with cold foam and holy cow. It rocked my world. The blend was perfect. It was pretty sweet, which I personally enjoyed but if you don't like the sweeter side, I would opt out of getting the cold foam on top. My friend got their Double Matcha on the right side of the menu. It's matcha with matcha cold foam, but she subbed the syrup in the cold foam for the Earl Grey syrup. If you've had the tea, basically it was just matcha with a hint of that flavor. Very good! Super mellow because that flavor feels very grounded versus fun, bright, and sugary vibes. Good for fall!! The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is simply because they don't open until 10 AM. I got there at 9:30 and was shocked to see that it wasn't open yet. There was such a long line of people waiting to get in at 10 AM. It was kind of crazy! read more

Project Matcha is a modern matcha shop in a cool space with a unique selection of drinks. To get here, street parking will be your best bet. Inside, they have a bright and nicely decorated interior with about 6-7 tables for seating. For their menu, they have different coffee, matcha, specialty, and signature drinks to choose from. Wifey and I opted to get the Banana Cream Hojicha and the Strawberry Shortcake Matcha. Both drinks were solid and all of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. read more

Banana cream matcha: 4.5/5. Nice nutty flavor, well balanced and doesn't overpower the matcha. The toppings add a nice crunch. Strawberry matcha: 4.4/5. Classic summertime favorite. We do wish there was more syrup, but this is a personal preference. Ratio was looking like 10% strawberry, 90% matcha. Our ideal ratio is 3:17 which would be 15% strawberry syrup given that they do a pulpy and fresh version. Raspberry vanilla matcha: 4.5/5. Solid ratio. Loved the vanilla addition to the mix. Not super fruity like the strawberry, milder but still flavorful. Jasmine matcha: 5/5. I love jasmine so there's a bias here. It's light, aromatic and so pleasant. If you like early grey milk teas and jasmine in general, I'd recommend!! Service this time around was friendlier. The cashier took the time to chat briefly even with the long line. There still seems to always be a line out the door, but it's a worthwhile pursuit if done with friends. Not ideal for grab n go. We ordered four drinks and it came out on the bar within less than 5 minutes. Super impressive given that they're vigorously hand whisking all the drinks. They've reached a flow state for sure. Indoor space/seating is very lively. Kinda gives NYC day time club vibes. Well decorated and always a great playlist playing over the speakers. read more
I had the matcha einspanner with oat milk and it was quite nice. The cream on top gave it a nice texture. I only wish I would have requested some cinnamon powder on top. My daughter had the raspberry vanilla matcha latte with oat milk and she said she like have preferred it a bit more sweet. The line was fairly long when we entered on a midday Tuesday but they got through it pretty quickly. read more

I'm from LA and visit Japan every year so as annoying as it is to say, I might be a matcha snob. With that being said, this place is fantastic. Came with two friends on a Sunday late morning/early afternoon. We parked a couple blocks away and walked over. There was a small line outside when we arrived but it moved fairly quickly. The inside is so modern and well decorated. The girl at the register was so bubbly and friendly. I ordered the banana cream matcha latte and my friends ordered the raspberry vanilla matcha latte and the jasmine matcha. We all tried each other's drinks and they were all amazing. We almost regretted not getting two drinks each so we could try some of their other items. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in town! read more
Project Matcha is so worth the hype. The kindness of the baristas alone is so refreshing. I loved Daisy's Jasmine Matcha Latte iced (7.50). Such a great price for an amazing specialty drink. Note: I got here when they open at 11am on a Thursday and was 6th in the line. The line didn't move at super speed but my drink came out in under 2 minutes when I ordered it. This is because the cashier is kind and actually chats with you :). Project Matcha is the perfect place go come with friends. It's so sunny and cute inside with mirrors and ceramics for sale and warm sun shining in that makes you forget it's 40 degrees outside. It is also a great place to treat yourself! YES! We finally tried this spot and it didn't disappoint. This is some of the best matcha I've ever had, amazing matcha taste and not bitter. I had to order the jasmine matcha as I absolutely love jasmine and this was perfect!! This needs to stay on the menu! My husband also really enjoyed his banana cream matcha! There was a decent line maybe 20 mins but sooo worth it! Interior was cute, street parking took a little bit. read more
We got the raspberry, coconut cloud, and the project matcha latte. We were all blown away. Definitely one of the best matchas we've had in a while. Delicious matcha with a truly vibrant color and a bold, well-balanced flavor. I ordered the jasmine matcha, which was excellent. The floral notes of jasmine complemented the matcha perfectly, and the drink was not overly sweet. The person I went with ordered the mango matcha, and it tasted incredibly fresh and bright. I really appreciate that you can get alternative milk at no extra charge. It's hard to go wrong with any of the drinks here, though I do wish the blueberry lavender matcha was still on the menu! I also really appreciate that alternative milks are available at no extra charge. I visited on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a long line out the door. Seating can be a bit difficult to find in the small cafe, but it's not impossible. Despite the crowd, the staff were kind, helpful, and efficient, and the drinks were prepared quickly. I would give this a 6/10. On a positive note, the ambiance is super nice, they have cool decorations, places to sit with friends, and the vibe is great overall. The matchas were honestly not the best. I got the banana cream matcha which is just a normal matcha with banana cream and toffee bits? The banana cream is good but when mixed in, you can barely taste the banana. I wish they had a banana syrup to complement it because it was pretty lacking in banana flavor. The matcha itself was also not the best, I've definitely had better. It was also not very sweet, at least not sweet enough for me. Toffee bits didn't add much since they just sunk to the bottom. As a banana matcha lover, this was definitely lacking for me, especially for $7.5. My friend's strawberry matcha was similar, had a bit more strawberry flavor but I've had WAY better strawberry matchas before. I also tried the matcha blondie pastry which was nothing special. Overall, a nice place to hang out and grab matcha but the drinks aren't the best imo read more
Went on a weekend afternoon and waited about 25 minutes in line. Not really worth the wait imo. I got strawberry matcha with oat milk plus an extra matcha shot and my fiancé got a matcha espresso. The strawberry matcha was not bad but it only had enough matcha with the extra shot. So without the extra shot it wouldn't have been strong enough. The matcha espresso was pretty disappointing, would not recommend. Not a fan of the coffee they used :( read more

We were able to grab a drink here after lunch, surprisingly the line was not too long. They have a good assortment of matcha products. We tried the banana cream hojicha and the matcha einspanner. Both drinks were made well and came out quickly. I liked that they constantly have people preparing matcha in anticipation of the next drink. It would be nice if they were open earlier in the morning. read more
It's worth the wait. Here I said it. Unique matcha drinks, silky smooth matcha, not too sweet. I got three drinks.. all for me.. and loved each one of them. The line is commonly long whenever I pass by (even during off hours). The drinks were lovely and the cafe aesthetic is very appealing. The cashier seemed to not care when I approached the counter and continued talking to her co-worker for quite some time. She wasn't very friendly and seemed more like she was just hanging out. The drinks were prepared quickly compared to the time spent in line. My guess is because of the slow and nonchalant cashier. Besides the service, the drinks were so delicious. Would come back solely for the taste and hope that the customer service is better next time. read more

Got the banana cream matcha latte ($7.50) which comes with toffee/almond bits!! First several sips were delicious but the bits became a little too sweet for me. The banana flavor was just right, and wasn't too overpowering which I appreciated. Ambiance is a bit intimidating and didn't feel super welcoming. Very clean and minimalistic/elevated look which was pleasant. There are about 7 tables which were all taken when we arrived but we were quickly able to get a seat. I wouldn't study/work here personally, but there were a couple of people who were. We came around 3PM on a Friday and there was barely a line. read more

Project Matcha is located in Downtown Portland. We were fortunate enough to find street parking literally across the street. Upon walking upon to Project Matcha (which is located on the corner of 6th and Couch), is a shop with long windows which allows you to see the beautiful Christmas decor they currently have. The service was quick considering we walked in 11 minutes before closing (because we were trying to find street parking, lol) and were able to walk out with our orders with 5 minutes to spare!! Our drinks were soooo tasty, they were gone in a few sips... The matcha was great quality, and the flavors were sooo delicious. I will be making another stop tomorrow for a different set of drinks :) read more
Every one of my friends enjoyed their different types of matcha myself included. Hand whisked and staff was so sweet and the vibe was adorable. So many options and I want to go back and try more this was pretty close to perfect I just like a strong matcha flavor and this was definitely more for a more casual matcha drinker/ more sweet but I bet you could ask for less sweet!! read more
I got the banana cream matcha that I thought was pretty good! Not too sweet or overwhelming. I also really liked the project matcha with earl grey tea. My friend said she loved her coconut cloud matcha, especially because it included fresh pulp, and she recommends it to anyone who loves fresh coconut water. The matcha einspanner was too milky in my opinion. Each drink was about $7.5. There was a long line on a Tuesday at 1pm but the wait itself wasn't too bad. Although I was initially hesitant to try this place due to mixed reviews, I am glad I gave it a chance. It has become my preferred spot for matcha. Wait this place is so cute! This was my first time at Project Matcha. The matcha is delicious and not too sweet! I got the iced Project Matcha latte. The workers there are the cutest! Definitely my go to matcha spot in Portland! I love the fact that they hand whisk the matcha in front of you. The matcha is perfectly grassy and well balanced with the milk and the syrup is also not that sweet. Would definitely recommend this spot! I've tried a bunch of flavors including the mango, raspberry vanilla, strawberry, yuzu refresher, and my favorite is still the blueberry. read more
