100% worth the wait. you're not going to be coddled or catered to here, so just be bold and pick what sounds good - because i promise it WILL be good! i had a coffee, a tea, and a smoothie from here and all were excellent. the beignets were to die for - literally so so good.. probably some of the best beignets i've ever had... like, ever. The plants are gorgeous, the area is nice to sit and relax or grab a quick breakfast or sandwich (they've got bagels and breakfast burritos - my partner got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant and said it was amazing!) we did try the place across the street - and no hate, but don't let their fancy name fool you... Java Man is the clear winner. open at 7:30am, you don't need to look anywhere else. I'd choose this place over the other bakery and over Il Soleito or whatever it's called - both other breakfast spots directly across the street. Java Man is the clear choice out of these 3, for sure. Matcha isn't a crazy sweet starbucks matcha either, it's earthy and amazing and authentic, but if you want sweet - they've got sweet cream cold foam / other flavors you can add. They make a great coffee, a great matcha, and their tea infusion bar could keep me hydrated all day. i'm going to miss this place when i leave..! don't skimp out on the pastry area either - they've got fresh fruit and fresh baked goodies that are also ALL excellent. so be patient, it's worth the wait for your drink. read more

Large coffee shop with plenty of seating. Only came here for coffee but they had plenty of food options. Parking can be hard to find depending on the time of day, luckily I was staying nearby and could walk in. Service was friendly despite how long the AM rush line was. I also got my drink very quickly, efficiency at its finest! Got a regular latte with dairy milk. Very solid latte and almost had a chocolaty taste to it. Good place for your caffeine needs. Will need to come back for food and other drinks! read more

The coffee there was awful. I really don't understand why some places serve terrible coffee, and why those places cluster so strongly downtown. Get your coffee on the east side. Friendly service, nice open seating though. read more

Java Man Coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Portland, Oregon

During my visit to Portland, Java Man was by far my favorite coffee shop to visit. The baristas were the some of the friendliest we encountered. There were beautiful plants everywhere, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Around the shop were comfortable couches upon which to sit. There were also comfy stools that molded to your tush. They serve beignets on demand (woo-hoo!) and make delicious drinks. The dirty chai in particular was crazy tasty with a great balance of chai flavor. Also, the midnight mocha, which, despite the name, had a banana flavor with the mocha, was a delightful surprise. I absolutely will return here on my next Portland visit! read more

Java Man is a great spot I discovered while visiting Portland -- one of the few places open early on a Memorial Day. The interior once you walk in is immediately a bunch of plants (for sale) so that's where my my eyes were drawn to (not the menu on the board, coffee bags or pastries). Java Man has this laid-back, slightly quirky vibe and again lots and lots of plants = coffee + plants? Either way, it works. Maybe it's a bit stretch but feels like a little urban forest café. :) Once my head space was able to focus on the coffees-- you have the option of ordering at kiosk or at counter. I always prefer in-person interactions so ordered with the barista! I selected the seasonal drink -- the Ube Latte -- but I must have misheard the friendly barista when they asked if liked (she meant wanted) Vietnamese... so long and behold, I got upsold and got myself strong coffee! At first, I thought this latte looks "darker" than normal. Hahaha. Normally, I love strong coffee, but I wasn't planning on something so strong today -- as I actually wanted to sleep later on that day. One sip and all forgotten, as the one was creamy and smooth, perfectly balanced with the strong coffee. Yumminess for sure. Overall, great service, consistently good coffee (and plain vanilla hot latte), and a spot that makes you want to stay a little longer. Totally recommend stopping by to support the venue. read more

Great service! I tried the coconut latte, it was delicious! I needed a little treat, so they make beignets fresh when you order, so of course I tried them! I am a flygirl aka stewardess aka flight attendant, so I have been in the New Orleans and had them there...these were good, but not NO good! It's like being from Mexico and eating Mexican food in Albuquerque NM. It's good, just not the same good! lol! The street views and ambiance will make you feel like You are in the middle of a 1990's sitcom. Very nice coffee shop. read more

This place is such a vibe! As soon as you walk in, you're surrounded by plants -- it makes the whole space feel super calming and cozy. The green aesthetic is gorgeous and really adds to the chill atmosphere. I tried the Danni Special and it was pretty good! They also do little coffee art on the drinks, which I thought was super cute. Just a really nice spot overall. I'd definitely come back! read more

We are spending our last day in Portland and walking around looking at this beautiful city! We wanted a great coffee spot with Portland flare, if that is what you are looking for this is the spot! We got a cold brew and a Vietnamese iced coffee and it was so smooth so good! The service was fast, friendly and efficient. Really cute nice vibe and great location on a corner right down the street from our hotel (Woodlark by Tribute/Marriott) and a really quick walk. I like to try new coffee shops everywhere I travel. I went to Case Study, and Roseline as well, but Java Man was my favorite! The service was helpful and friendly and the white mocha was just the right blend of coffee and sweetness. Very pleasant right from the first sip. The English muffin breakfast sandwiches (1 ham egg & cheese and the other sausage) were delicious too. Will definitely come back here if I stay downtown next time. read more

food is good, drinks are okay, the service was pretty bad. the girl with the bangs was so rude, i came on a very slow morning and it was my first time here so i had questions like what was in what and she looked at me dumbfounded, id ask her a question and she'd just look at me like i was disrupting her, like i get it, i work in customer service too and sometimes costumers give you a hard time and it makes you in a bad mood, but i literally had asked about 1 drink and she made me feel so bad about it so i didn't ask any other questions and just ended up ordering stuff i didnt exactly want which is probably why the drinks weren't the best, but other than that the place is super cute and it's a very nice spot i wish i felt more welcomed to stay inside though, but it's okay. read more

Poorly ran place. Girl ran us up for a sandwich that never got made, ended up waiting 30 minutes for them to tell us that they don't have the sandwich. Essentially paid $18 for 2 coffees and no staff noticed it. I judge a coffee shop by their black coffee. No frills, nothing to hide behind. Pros: they open early, it's a cute large space with nice decor - perfect for working or meeting with friends, the cashier and staff were friendly. Cons: i got a medium roast, and it just tastes like black, brown, bean water. read more

Our coffee shop list in Portland keeps growing. We were in town a few days prior to going here because we stopped in at St. Honoré Bakery across the street. So, now we were back and decided to stop in. A cafe attached to The Bidwell hotel, it's a very popular place, and around noon, evidently it was a good, warm & cozy place to have a business meeting. I saw their menu and they had me espresso affogato. My wife had the iced breve mocha. Both are winners. They also had beignets on their menu, which we ordered a batch. It's the closest thing to Cafe Du Monde we've had. Their service is good & fast. We'll be back read more

Best ice matcha I've had in a while!! This coffee shop has so much greenery, tables, and natural light. Would love to wtf here. The barista was so nice, I got the ice matcha with blueberry foam ($5.50). I'm usually hesitant on getting matcha from western cafes but she shifted it so well and the foam was so flavorful. I also got a heated up butter croissant ($3) which was so flakey. Great coffee shop with amazing prices!! read more

Cute place - so lush with all the plants. It's quite an inviting atmosphere. I had the Java Latte and was pleasantly surprised! Sweet but not too sweet with a good coffee flavor. Great food and service. Good choice of pastries and breakfast itema. Great local spot to relax while in downtown Portland

Good coffee, good vibes. Got mine to go but would love to just sit and read a book while sipping on coffee.

Ordered a tea here while waiting for a friend. I really loved the atmosphere with the plants and had to resist the sirens song of fresh beignets. It's getting a three because I asked for English Breakfast and got Earl Grey, which is really really don't like. I also really hate being the person to ask a busy business to replace and throw out product, so I drank a third and tossed the rest. Would go again. read more

We were staying at the Bidwell hotel right next-door. Such a perfect location to get yourself a specialized coffee I had the cappuccino and then I had a chai latte. They have pastries, all kinds of goodies. It's right on the corner. You can't miss it and the staff are so friendly. They even have a sprinkle of nutmeg if you like. read more

Lured in by the pothos visible from the sidewalk outside, I stayed for the blackberry foam on the iced coffee - YUM! This is an airy, happy coffee shop that is also a plant haven. Situated on a corner and adjacent to the Bidwell hotel, the baristas are both efficient and helpful. I spotted the blackberry cold foam listed as part of a speciality drink and when I asked about it, the barista happily suggested adding it to an iced coffee - perfection!! Portland might not be sunny, but clearly Java Man gets enough light to keep its plants happy, and they are an added bonus to this spot in downtown Portland. read more

Okay...I will be honest, the coffee was just okay...BUT...the environment and the friendliness of the staff made me come back! Everyone was so polite and the vibe was so chill. On Saturdays, they make fresh beignets and they were FANTASTIC!!! The lady at the counter let me know that they visited Louisiana to learn how to make the best batter, and that they did!
