Order: Lrg Hazel Nut Latte Pros: ilI walk pass this place often but i've never actually gone in. Today I wanted to give them a try. The latte was okay. I cant quite put my finger on the issue but Ive certainly had better lattes. Its not bad though. Its clean inside and employees were nice. Cons: nothing bad

    My lovely view! Yum!

Great service! I tried the coconut latte, it was delicious! I needed a little treat, so they make beignets fresh when you order, so of course I tried them! I am a flygirl aka stewardess aka flight attendant, so I have been in the New Orleans and had them there...these were good, but not NO good! It's like being from Mexico and eating Mexican food in Albuquerque NM. It's good, just not the same good! lol! The street views and ambiance will make you feel like You are in the middle of a 1990's sitcom. Very nice coffee shop.

We are spending our last day in Portland and walking around looking at this beautiful city! We wanted a great coffee spot with Portland flare, if that is what you are looking for this is the spot! We got a cold brew and a Vietnamese iced coffee and it was so smooth so good! The service was fast, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere here is a mini tropical, Oregonian oasis in the middle of the city.

During my visit to Portland, Java Man was by far my favorite coffee shop to visit. The baristas were the some of the friendliest we encountered. There were beautiful plants everywhere, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Around the shop were comfortable couches upon which to sit. There were also comfy stools that molded to your tush. They serve beignets on demand (woo-hoo!) and make delicious drinks. The dirty chai in particular was crazy tasty with a great balance of chai flavor. Also, the midnight mocha, which, despite the name, had a banana flavor with the mocha, was a delightful surprise. I absolutely will return here on my next Portland visit!

Java Man was a huge part of our trip to Portland! Once we discovered this place we came back over and over again! The coffee was great, the food was great our sandwiches were so delicious I was addicted to the Ham egg and cheese croissant! The overall ambiance of the place was very chill and relaxed! Service was quick and easy and the staff here is very polite! Can't wait to come back sometime.

Java Man is a great spot I discovered while visiting Portland -- one of the few places open early on a Memorial Day. The interior once you walk in is immediately a bunch of plants (for sale) so that's where my my eyes were drawn to (not the menu on the board, coffee bags or pastries). Java Man has this laid-back, slightly quirky vibe and again lots and lots of plants = coffee + plants? Either way, it works. Maybe it's a bit stretch but feels like a little urban forest café. :) Once my head space was able to focus on the coffees-- you have the option of ordering at kiosk or at counter. I always prefer in-person interactions so ordered with the barista! I selected the seasonal drink -- the Ube Latte -- but I must have misheard the friendly barista when they asked if liked (she meant wanted) Vietnamese... so long and behold, I got upsold and got myself strong coffee! At first, I thought this latte looks "darker" than normal. Hahaha. Normally, I love strong coffee, but I wasn't planning on something so strong today -- as I actually wanted to sleep later on that day. One sip and all forgotten, as the one was creamy and smooth, perfectly balanced with the strong coffee. Yumminess for sure. Overall, great service, consistently good coffee (and plain vanilla hot latte), and a spot that makes you want to stay a little longer. Totally recommend stopping by to support the venue.

This place is such a vibe! As soon as you walk in, you're surrounded by plants -- it makes the whole space feel super calming and cozy. The green aesthetic is gorgeous and really adds to the chill atmosphere. I tried the Danni Special and it was pretty good! They also do little coffee art on the drinks, which I thought was super cute. Just a really nice spot overall. I'd definitely come back!

First of all the store is super cool and very inviting. We walked in felt an amazing vibe the staff was so freaking courteous and welcoming. We joked with them and asked for recommendations and bam they gave great ones and they hit the spot. We got 2 matcha's iced and hot, everything bagel with cream cheese. They all were delicious and well made. Need a cool place in downtown Portland try this spot ! They also have banh mi sandwiches also !

The iced raspberry matcha was so good but their matcha cookies were out of this world. One of the best cookies I have ever tasted. I loved the atmosphere with the big windows and lots of plants. Great experience! Definitely recommend!

Awesome coffee stop in Portland. Viet sandwiches avail even though we just went there for the coffee...nice and chill. Easy ordering an fast. Great first stop of the day.

    Maple sea salt latte

Great coffee and the staff were very nice. I had a maple sea salt latte. The cold foam on top of it was incredible; it had a salty coffee taste to it. I was planning on going somewhere else the next day, but enjoyed it so much I went back and got the same thing.

My cat's name is Java so I had to give this a try. Amazing coffee and non-caffeinated tea options. I got some blueberry dessert but can't remember the name - it was delicious. Brew of the coffee is smooth and has a nice finish. Would recommend. Friendly and quick and a ton of bakery items that all looked delicious honestly.

Java Man is a coffee shop with great food and drink options, and is a great option if you're looking for a coffee shop downtown. It's got a lot of tables to work at, plants, and a solid food and drink menu. The bagel sandwich was filling and my iced dirty oatmilk chai was delish!

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd give a Portland bagel five stars…read more A few things to note here: 1. Oregon is a miserable state for bagels. Arguably the best in the genre here exists in Hood River, and it's about par with Northeast supermarket bagels or the British Columbia approximation of a Montreal bagel. It's fine, but far better than the bagel-shaped rolls of white bread you'll encounter here. 2. Bentley's is in a neighborhood dense with bagels, but light on good bagels. The names of its bagel-making neighbors are familiar to the locals, but they're also a big part of the reason why expats go out of their way to travel across town and wait in lines for bagels that might be passable replicas of those they remember. My family is from New Jersey, which has its own (albeit unlauded) bagel culture entirely, and has spent more than a decade here lodging bagel complaints. Their last straw was a place in St. John's that moved to the art museum and then to a place by the Widmer brewery that sort of made a decent bagel, but charged about $3 for the privilege of eating one. Not with cream cheese, not with lox or whitefish--$3 for the bagel itself. Sirs, you can go fuck yourselves with that level of extortion for what's essentially a Shop-Rite+ bagel. Bentley's has been much more reasonable and consistent. In a town that considers boiling a bagel an artisanal option and not, in fact, a default, Bentley's gets its chewy exterior and density down. While I'm slightly disappointed that the dough lacks some of the complexity of its back-east contemporaries--especially on a coast where the tang of a sourdough is approached with such pride--Bentley's gets the consistency of its bagels down. It comes down to sound fundamentals: Bentley's makes only eight varieties of bagels, but includes right-coast vestiges like salt and onion. More importantly, though a single bagel is still $2 (slight sticker shock from back east), that gets into the buck-and-change range quickly when you get a baker's dozen for $21 (roughly $1.60 per). I haven't gotten the cream cheese or lox here because I like making life as difficult on myself as possible. The best cream cheese I've found here is in Hillsboro. The best lox and whitefish? Astoria. So if a bagel spot is going to be out of my way anyway, I may as well start the weekend picking up a bag on 21st street, hitting 26 for cream cheese, and popping up to Astoria for a room for the weekend. After nearly a decade and a half in this state, Bentley's has helped my family shorten the bagel map a bit and given us the best option the Portland metro has to option. Before you give up on bagels entirely and start believing things like "Hmm, maybe biscuits and gravy ARE worth my time," pop into Bentley's on a quiet Sunday morning and try it for yourself.
