100% worth the wait. you're not going to be coddled or catered to here, so just be bold and pick what sounds good - because i promise it WILL be good! i had a coffee, a tea, and a smoothie from here and all were excellent. the beignets were to die for - literally so so good.. probably some of the best beignets i've ever had... like, ever. The plants are gorgeous, the area is nice to sit and relax or grab a quick breakfast or sandwich (they've got bagels and breakfast burritos - my partner got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant and said it was amazing!) we did try the place across the street - and no hate, but don't let their fancy name fool you... Java Man is the clear winner. open at 7:30am, you don't need to look anywhere else. I'd choose this place over the other bakery and over Il Soleito or whatever it's called - both other breakfast spots directly across the street. Java Man is the clear choice out of these 3, for sure. Matcha isn't a crazy sweet starbucks matcha either, it's earthy and amazing and authentic, but if you want sweet - they've got sweet cream cold foam / other flavors you can add. They make a great coffee, a great matcha, and their tea infusion bar could keep me hydrated all day. i'm going to miss this place when i leave..! don't skimp out on the pastry area either - they've got fresh fruit and fresh baked goodies that are also ALL excellent. so be patient, it's worth the wait for your drink. read more

Large coffee shop with plenty of seating. Only came here for coffee but they had plenty of food options. Parking can be hard to find depending on the time of day, luckily I was staying nearby and could walk in. Service was friendly despite how long the AM rush line was. I also got my drink very quickly, efficiency at its finest! Got a regular latte with dairy milk. Very solid latte and almost had a chocolaty taste to it. Good place for your caffeine needs. Great service! I tried the coconut latte, it was delicious! I needed a little treat, so they make beignets fresh when you order, so of course I tried them! I am a flygirl aka stewardess aka flight attendant, so I have been in the New Orleans and had them there...these were good, but not NO good! It's like being from Mexico and eating Mexican food in Albuquerque NM. It's good, just not the same good! lol! During my visit to Portland, Java Man was by far my favorite coffee shop to visit. The baristas were the some of the friendliest we encountered. There were beautiful plants everywhere, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Around the shop were comfortable couches upon which to sit. There were also comfy stools that molded to your tush. They serve beignets on demand (woo-hoo!) and make delicious drinks. The dirty chai in particular was crazy tasty with a great balance of chai flavor. Also, the midnight mocha, which, despite the name, had a banana flavor with the mocha, was a delightful surprise. I absolutely will return here on my next Portland visit! read more

Java Man is a great spot I discovered while visiting Portland -- one of the few places open early on a Memorial Day. The interior once you walk in is immediately a bunch of plants (for sale) so that's where my my eyes were drawn to (not the menu on the board, coffee bags or pastries). Java Man has this laid-back, slightly quirky vibe and again lots and lots of plants = coffee + plants? Either way, it works. Maybe it's a bit stretch but feels like a little urban forest café. :) Once my head space was able to focus on the coffees-- you have the option of ordering at kiosk or at counter. I always prefer in-person interactions so ordered with the barista! I selected the seasonal drink -- the Ube Latte -- but I must have misheard the friendly barista when they asked if liked (she meant wanted) Vietnamese... so long and behold, I got upsold and got myself strong coffee! At first, I thought this latte looks "darker" than normal. Hahaha. Normally, I love strong coffee, but I wasn't planning on something so strong today -- as I actually wanted to sleep later on that day. One sip and all forgotten, as the one was creamy and smooth, perfectly balanced with the strong coffee. Yumminess for sure. Overall, great service, consistently good coffee (and plain vanilla hot latte), and a spot that makes you want to stay a little longer. Totally recommend stopping by to support the venue. read more

This place is such a vibe! As soon as you walk in, you're surrounded by plants -- it makes the whole space feel super calming and cozy. First of all the store is super cool and very inviting. We walked in felt an amazing vibe the staff was so freaking courteous and welcoming. Really cute nice vibe and great location on a corner right down the street from our hotel (Woodlark by Tribute/Marriott) and a really quick walk. I like to try new coffee shops everywhere I travel. I went to Case Study, and Roseline as well, but Java Man was my favorite! The service was helpful and friendly and the white mocha was just the right blend of coffee and sweetness. Very pleasant right from the first sip. The English muffin breakfast sandwiches (1 ham egg & cheese and the other sausage) were delicious too. Our coffee shop list in Portland keeps growing. We were in town a few days prior to going here because we stopped in at St. Honoré Bakery across the street. So, now we were back and decided to stop in. A cafe attached to The Bidwell hotel, it's a very popular place, and around noon, evidently it was a good, warm & cozy place to have a business meeting. I saw their menu and they had me espresso affogato. My wife had the iced breve mocha. Both are winners. They also had beignets on their menu, which we ordered a batch. Best ice matcha I've had in a while!! This coffee shop has so much greenery, tables, and natural light. Would love to wtf here. The barista was so nice, I got the ice matcha with blueberry foam ($5.50). I'm usually hesitant on getting matcha from western cafes but she shifted it so well and the foam was so flavorful. We were staying at the Bidwell hotel right next-door. Such a perfect location to get yourself a specialized coffee I had the cappuccino and then I had a chai latte. This coffee place is the real deal. Of course everyone knows that Portland is known for their coffees and Java man coffee does not disappoint they do have smoothies. I spotted the blackberry cold foam listed as part of a speciality drink and when I asked about it, the barista happily suggested adding it to an iced coffee - perfection!! My go-to spot for a morning pick me up when I'm in Portland for work! They have beignets (I like the mini ones) and a Vietnamese iced coffee that will get you through the day. What a great calm spot to grab coffee alone or with a friend. Love how they brought nature inside to creat a calm place in a disheveled feeling part of town. When you fist walk in though, it's a little overwhelming if you aren't expecting it. There are tables and a bar at the window to sit at, but it feels more like a grab and go spot. The brewed coffee was good but I will have to go back and try some of the coffee specials they have listed.
