    We're making progress

If it came off the first night it was worn, it'd be Promdress Bakery. But alas, it's not. What to get: Pasteis De Nata - Portuguese Custard Tart. What else: Who are you calling a tart. I'm making Progress in trying to get to 3,000 reviews, and I'm making Progress in my Toronto reviews, too. One thing Toronto is extremely good at, is Portuguese and Brazilian bakeries. There are probably about 30 of them just that I know of... and more that I don't. I've tried the majority of those... And this is one of the very best. If the place was full of geeks, it'd be Pokedex Bakery. It wasn't flaky at all (although I like that), it was thin (like my thingy), squidgy (like my... never mind)... had a nice burned taste, was a little chilled from the fridge, which was nice, and was basically perfect in terms of taste. The chill really brought the custard to the fore. Oh god I feel so pretentious even saying that. If they closed down, it'd be Oneless Bakery (sob). The burned taste is what stays with me from Progress. It's easily one of the best 5 Portuguese Tarts in Toronto, up there with Golden Wheat and Brick Street Bakery as well as My Market Bakery. And if they didn't sell tarts at all, it'd be Pointless Bakery. Thankfully, they do.

thick skin on both sides of veal made it inedible and gross!

I ordered a veal sandwich and it was covered in a thick layer of skin. I could not bite into it so I peeled back the breading and saw the thick skin on both sides of the veal. Why they would serve the scraps like that is beyond my understanding. The lady making the sandwich went to the back to make it and used the same gloves for the food as she did at the register. I won't be back ever again * food was ok with the previous owners but is terrible now.

Pastel De Nata - Portuguese egg tarts; one is never enough.

This neighborhood Portuguese bakery is located on the SW corner of Hallam & Dovercourt. If coming by TTC catch the 161 at the Ossington Station. It's a short ride. Walking in you know this is a well established business in the Portuguese community when you hear patrons & staff speaking with each other in their native language. At first glance it seems like any other bakery serving breads, pastries, pies, etc. However there is also a small steam table serving hot foods to go or eat in. So this place is more like a bakeatery, maybe? Anyways I came here for their custard tarts only which I've heard great things about. It certainly didn't disappoint. The crème brûlée-like char on top added a nice touch to the visual and the sweet creamy custardy filling is definitely the best part. It's served cold and you can have them nuke it for you if you like it warm. I bet they taste even better just out of the oven!

Not great not terrible. Good place to get (a rather mediocre) coffee and sweets but the food is uninspiring.

The pastries and mochi breads are absolutely exquisite! I tried the black sesame mochi bread--light, pillowy, and filled with a delightful little white mochi surprise. The crème brûlée almond tart was incredible too, with its thick, eggy custard and a blueberry-almond center. And the Hitotoki matcha tart? Gorgeous and just perfect. It was my first visit, and I discovered the bakery through their 2nd-anniversary IG post. I bought about $20 worth of treats and got to spin their prize wheel--and I actually won the Grand Prize: a limited-edition gold Nespresso & milk frother kit! I literally jumped for joy. Yet another reason to love this incredible bakery!

It was okay. Tried three items:…read more Matcha Lava Tart - The staff said this had the strongest matcha flavour among their matcha items. But there was no "lava" at all... just a layer of cream sitting on a thick tart base. You do get some matcha flavour, but definitely not that rich and flowing matcha sauce I saw in those online reels. Matcha Mont Blanc - Too sweet. The green noodle-shaped topping is actually made from a kind of bean paste - not much matcha taste, but had a strong bean flavour instead. And again, it was too sweet to my liking. Taro Tart - This one was good. Taro-flavoured cream on top, with taro paste underneath, then a layer of custard with mochi at the bottom. Had a rich taro flavour. Still a bit sweet, but not as overwhelming as the Mont Blanc. Overall it was not bad, although TBH I haven't really found great matcha desserts in Toronto so far.

My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. There is free WiFi. The neo-bisto is not wheelchair accessible since there are stairs leading up to the entrance. There are two gender-neutral washrooms. There is free street parking on their one-way south-bound street. Review 2023-017

Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
