Stopped on a Friday morning as I wanted to treat myself to a scone. It was before 8 am so the place I was headed to wasn't open yet. I decided to stop at Mabel's as they are a bakery after all. I asked for a cranberry lemon scone without looking at the sign with the price. It wasn't a big scone. Not at all. Which was fine for me. However, when the cashier rang it in, it was $5.07 with tax. More than $5 for 1 moderately sized scone. And I was prompted for a tip. I understand the pandemic and inflation is hitting small businesses and I sympathize, however, paying more than $5 for one not large scone which only average tasting seemed like a lot. In the future will wait until 8 am and stop at my usual spot. read more

A cute bakery we stopped by on our walk down St Clair. They don't have tok many things but their freshly baked bread looked super fresh and delicious so we grabbed a loaf. We also grabbed a veggie empanada and an almond chocolate croissant both of which were very tasty. The bakery offers a good collection of frozen and fresh meals. They also have cheeses and meats perfect for some anti pasto. We tried their chicken pot pie which was topped with biscuits instead of a traditional pie and it was pretty yummy. This location did not have friendly service and the server was pretty rude when I asked questions about how the bagels and other savoury items were made, so I would not return to this location. Im not sure how I should start my review but let me tell you that their toffee tart is definitely a go-to! I normally dont like tarts but decided to give this one a try and its not too sweet like many tarts I've tried which is great! It has a nice buttery taste with the perfect flake texture for the crust. This location is small but has great pastries to go! Love their almond croissant as well as their berry Danish! Oh, their staff are friendly and quite helpful! The atmosphere definitely has a positive vibe! Will return real soon! read more

We had planned a trip to Emma's today on Easter Monday, but wow were we lucky to find Mabel's when we realized Emma's was closed. Feeding someone with an egg allergy in a restaurant at breakfast time can be a challenge. The chicken pot pie of all things caught my kid's eye and the kindly salesperson checked very carefully to make sure it was okay. That was so appreciated. She loved it and ate the whole thing. The coffee and Montreal bagel for me were an excellent treat. Nice selection of cheese and homemade jam to take home. Love. Grabbed a selection of goodies for the road. Free bread (factory seconds?) after closing. Delicious still! I wished I got here before it had closed! Was walking by after the bakery had closed and noticed a man looking at baskets of bread outside. A second man walked past and told him to take the bread, "it's delicious, take them all!" This piqued my interest and I scoured the loaves as well and picked out a pumpkin seed loaf. Will be enjoyed with butter, or some cheese. read more

The staff are very nice, but I find their sticky buns very disappointing: no lovely gooey filling, just bread with a not very sweet cream cheese icing. Just not what I was expecting. When I was there today, I was very surprised to find that a loaf of bread costs $9.00! I wouldn't pay that much for a loaf of bread. read more

Best croissants? Hmm, don't agree with that but I do like their sourdough and bagels, my kids love their treats. I often grab sandwiches from the fridge which are pretty good, but I was mostly surprised that the manager hasn't eaten or tried much of the food (she's vegan), and after maybe my 10th visit I've decided she's really not very nice, either. Or in a perpetually crappy mood. I like the coffee and selection but it's no french bakery, and not sure what's up with Ms Crankypants but I'll avoid being served by her from now on. read more

Well I've been to Mabels on Roncy and I love that location. I have to admit when I saw this location's average rating was less...I thought...hmm, well that was my experience as well! I got my favourites squares, chocolate brownie and lemon square and they were good as usual. But I thought the service was only so-so and they were not as helpful and seemed in a hurry to get everyone through. Now the nice thing about this location is you can sit which I did. I got a egg salad sandwich, made that morning, but in the fridge and it was super cold to bite into. And they charged for an specialty sandwich as opposed to the vegetarian option! Unless you're vegan I have served eggs to my vegetarian friends..so I felt ripped off by that! I should had gone to Pain Perdu just a hop, skip away and had a fresh sandwich for the same price! I still like Mabels but if I'm St. Clair, I will pass on this location. There are other options that are better! read more

I was a huge fan of Mabels until I bought a cake from this new location. I went for the chocolate buttercream cake which looked beautiful. Well after raving to everyone at the party how Mabels cakes and pies are divine, we sliced the cake and it was DRY. And flavourless. I've had better cake from a grocery store. No one finished their cake. Not only was I embarrassed for boasting about Mabel's, I was not happy that I wasted time and money on this waste of a cake, and our dessert for the celebration was ruined. read more

This is such a cute store with friendly staff and tasty food. I especially love that they have fresh Montreal-style bagels. My only complaint is that the place is SWARMING with bees on any given day. Bees all over the danishes, bees all over the cupcakes, bees all over the bagels, and bees all over the cookies. The last time I went in, bees were swarming around the heads of myself and the cashier, and it was pretty intimidating trying to scoop up a bagel while trying not to get stung. They don't cover a lot of the food, so the bees have a field day on the sweets. EDIT: They resolved the bee problem. read more

I went there a couple of time. They had good reputation for their cup cakes and I tried. The cup cake was not bad but not excellent. I tried their apple pie. They did not have a piece of pie, but they had a small whole pie. It was good. I tried their croissant and it was good, too. Second time coming in this time I'm tired from work and I wanted to grab an oven ready meals. I pick the upscale-priced steak mushroom pot pie and it had really large steak chunks hidden under the beautiful pastry on top so it didnt bake evenly, and there were barely any mushrooms in the pie. The home-made chipotle hummus is tasteless - no salt, no garlic, no trace of chipotle. This is where you can find the best croissants in Toronto. They use and sell French butter which is much better than Canadian butter especially for baking as it has less water to fat content. They have decent salads but great drinks. I love their lavender tea latte. My one caveat about this store is seating. Its not the most comfortable. High points for Mabels for donating to the local Out of the Cold and Wychwood Open Door drop-in center. read more

Supreme breads! I've always been willing to travel for great quality and Mabel's breads are definitely worth the trip. Weather baguette, lavash or loafs the quality is excellent. Their breads are additive free, contain local Organic flower and sea salt! To top it off they use a beautiful wild "slow" yeast which results in spectacularly flavourful and aromatic breads. Came in for the first time and got 4 of the square desserts (Lemon, triple choco brownie, orange, and pecan) and a sour cherry pie. To my pleasant surprise, every single dessert was delicious. The amount of sugar was just right and every creation was as flavourful as the name suggests. The cherry pie was spectacular too and tasted very fresh. I will definitely be back. read more

The tea is very nice but a little pricey for the size of the cup but the squares are absolutely wonderful. We had a Date Square and one Lemon Square and both were large enough that we could have split one between us so good value for the money there. The date square ha a really good ratio of date filling to crumble (and who DOESN"T like crumble??) and the filling was not overly sweet. The lemon square on the other hand was tart in a really good way. The staff was really nice, the store clean and pleasant and the clientele (except for the one mandatory angry, in a rush and more important than anyone else waiting person found in every bakery cafe in the GTA) were enjoying themselves and were polite and friendly. Visit on a weekend morning and be prepared to drown in a sea of thick glasses and oversized strollers. My wife and I go to Mabel's every Saturday morning and we love it! Great desserts great coffee great bagels! If I could change one thing though I would ask them to stay open until about 8:00-8:30. I think they close around 7:00 and I do like to have an espressos around 7:30 after dinner so I usually have to go somewhere else but would like to support Mabel's. read more

I love this place! It is on the pricey side which is why I have given 4 stars vs 5, but for a good baked treat it is worth the cost. I haven't had any of the bread or food, but I have tried many of the treats. The orange blondie is my favourite and I could eat an entire try of them. The brownie is amazing - so rich but not too sweet. It's chocolate heaven. The buttercream chocolate cake is wonderful. It is now our go to cake for any special occasion. The only thing I didn't love was the apple pie. It was okay but very dense and I think just not my style. The crumbles are delicious though. They also have cookies and other squares. This place is the best! I need to avoid walking by it sometimes otherwise I can't resist and I don't need to be eating a brownie and orange blondie 5 times a week! read more
