I've been going to Prodigy hair salon - Sandra Lopez for about 10 years now. I can't believe I never did a review. I found her because I was looking for a blonde expert. I've been to all kinds of salons all over San Marino and Pasadena, and nobody could get my blonde the right color, and highlighted the way I wanted it. I looked for a blonde expert on yelp and I stumbled on Prodigy Hair Salon - Sandra. I believe it was God pointing me in the right direction. From the first time she did my hair she understood what I wanted. She makes it look easy, but I know it's not because many have failed. She really listens to you and helps you achieve your hair goals. The Prodigy salon used to be closer to where I live in LA, but I'm in Pasadena all the time. The new salon is right on Lake next to Macys with TJ Maxx above. When I have time, I get my hair done and get some shopping in as well. I would highly recommend Sandra for any of your blonde or coloring needs. She is a color expert, and she will tell you what is possible with your hair color. I also really appreciate Sandra's technique in weaving the bleach color in my hair. She is very talented in the placing of highlights so that it looks natural and consistent. She uses amazing products that keep my hair healthy and beautiful. Stripey and sloppy work, indicative of a man who is lazy in his work and doesn't listen to clients. When I politely tried to understand how I ended up with the results I did, and how to avoid in the future I was met with the entitled diatribe only a misogynist would give, because I didn't immediately respond to him. The negative, 1 star reviews are, for the most part, accurate. I went to this hair salon about twice a year over the last 3 years, and initially, I did leave satisfied with my haircuts, but at some point last year, the service felt pretty basic and not worth the $65. I've had 2 stylists (I'll call them Apple and Berry) work on my hair over these last few years. One of them, Apple, left such a bad impression that I just had to avoid getting my hair cut by that person. Two haircuts (mine & my friend's) were unevenly cut on that day. The reasoning we were given is that Apple might have felt rushed because we were the last clients of the day & Apple was going on vacation the next day. The resolution for this was that Berry and Sandra, the manager, fixed our haircuts for free. Moving forward, I only decided to book my appointments with another one of the stylists, Berry, that I thought was more reliable, but this person proved to be far worse, which is upsetting because Berry was my go-to! So many things went wrong when I decided to cut and color my hair with Berry. For starters, Berry canceled my haircut appointment at the last second after I had already been waiting an hour, which I understood because I know things happen. I only wish Berry had been just as nice and understanding as I was, but anyway, I ensured I was as clear as possible with how I wanted my hair to look before I colored my hair. I showed an image, I asked for a quote, and I scheduled an appointment. During this appointment, I found Berry wanted it to be broken down into 2 appointments. Again, I understood, so I went through with it, but by the end of it all, my hair was left half done. I contacted Berry, but Berry decided to quote me on more that needed to be done, which didn't make sense because the previous agreement should have already included everything. I contacted the manager Sandra thinking she would be more understanding for me to either get my hair fixed by them or to get a refund, but all she pretty much said is that the stylists are independent contractors, and that for $113 more, she could have another stylist-in-training work on my hair. I didn't want to spend anymore. It just wasn't fair. No real resolution was achieved. I decided to just go elsewhere to get my hair fixed, and it was definitely a better experience than Prodigy Hair Loft. Before coloring my hair, I contacted other places to get quotes for the haircolor I wanted, and the most affordable one, which is the one that ended up fixing my hair, is the one that I should have initially chosen. That was my biggest regret. I only chose Prodigy Hair Loft because it was my go-to place. The way they treated my situation was just so unfair. $235+tip were just thrown away. The location and salon atmosphere itself are very nice, but other than that, it is not worth the $65+ haircuts and expensive haircolor. Went last week to get a haircut from the owner Sandra and she did an amazing job! My hair was very dull and flat and she gave me such beautiful layers and the most soft and bouncy blowout! This place gave me the worst salon experience ever. I came here in 2021 and I was looking to go from long hair to short hair. Their prices were high so I expected them to exceed my expectations of a haircut. I booked with Issac and at first he was very nice and making sure I wanted to make the big chop. I told him yes and I showed him my inspo pictures which were short bobs with layers. Once he finished my haircut I had a straight cut bob and he had not consulted with me that he was going to just do a straight cut. He insisted that I keep it that way because of the texture of my hair. I told him I didn't really like it but he kept insisting I kept it that way and reassured me that I can come back for a free cut if I didn't like it. So I left and made an appointment that same day to get my free haircut because I was unhappy with my haircut. Fast forward to the day of my appointment 30 minutes before my appointment he cancels it. I was obviously upset because I didn't even have to come back and make a second appointment if he had just done what I requested the first time. I expressed my disappointment for the cancellation of my appointment to him over text and he automatically went off on me. He called me a little girl and told me to not "Karen" him and that the world doesn't revolve around me. This was very inappropriate behavior for a stylist which made him lose me as a client immediately . I'm a hair stylist myself and as bad as life gets I never in my hairstyling career would I take my anger or frustration out towards a client the way this grown man did. Not only was the service bad but the price was ridiculously high just to not get the haircut I wanted and to get yelled at by an old man. Definitely would not recommend this place. read more

I have just met my hair stylist soulmate. It's been two months since my last root touch-up and I was entertaining the idea of just going all silver. After doing my due diligence, sorting through the legitimate photos and reviews, I settled upon Prodigy. I called to schedule an appointment and was warmly greeted by Sandra. I could hear the busy salon in the background, but Sandra took her time with me. I explained my hair to the best of my ability before Sandra suggested sending a photo. A few short minutes, she responded with her honest opinion. She booked me for that Saturday and told me she wouldn't book any other clients, so she could give me all her focus. Located in an unassuming strip mall, neighboring Antigua Bread, is Prodigy. Upon entering, a flirty Malty-Shihtz hopped over to me and I instantly felt at home in the intimate, industrial salon. Inside, everyone was busy at work: a rugged barber, a bubbly stylist with a I'll-be-your-best-homegirl personality, and at the center, in all her petite glory, was Sandra. She raised her head up to tell me she would be a few more minutes. I had arrived 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment, so I fully expected this. Having extra time with my new snuggly buddy in the waiting area was more than fine with me. Sandra sat me down and gave me her honest assessment. She said she didn't want to give me unrealistic expectations and I told her I totally understood. Her balayage photos looked amazing, so I knew she was a talented colorist. What I didn't realize at the time, was that she is an absolute artist. I stated my wants and my reservations: silver hair, but with hospital dress code restrictions. She emphasized that she would do what was in her power to get me my desired results, but that it was up to the cooperation of my box-dyed black roots. (I had a previous ombre where they had lifted the black in two bleach sessions, lasting six hours) Her first order of business was to lift the color from the black and to rid me of the brassy ring that encircled my head. The process was a long one and Sandra explained every step to me. She basically deterred me from going black ever again since it is such a process to lift. She explained how she was going to do a gradient pattern of greys for more dimension. It all sounded more complex than I was expecting. I've had the experience of getting a base quote over the phone and having added costs at the register, so I mentally prepared myself for the final total. To my absolute shock, the price I was quoted was the price I paid, even though there was a bit of color correction involved. Not to mention that Sandra was gracious enough to stay open an additional 3 hours (6 hours total in the chair). Request the balayage package, which includes the bleach session and root touch up. At the time of my purchase, it was well under $300, just to give you an idea. (I had paid over $450 the first time at a salon in Monterey Park with underwhelming results) I have to admit that I don't get very excited about hair any more. I used to collect photos that I would share with stylists, but would end up with less than comparable cuts. This time I went in with zero expectations and let Sandra do her magic. When she spun me around in the chair, I was elated. The color was better than I had imagined. Silvery-grey, but done in a natural, tasteful way. read more

I found this location on Yelp after searching for a place to get my hair done and being that I was new to the area I thought I would give it a try. Fast forward and I have now been coming to this location for the past 3 years and am so happy I found a hairstylist in Sandra that I can consistently come to. Not only that, but hairstylist Isaac now cuts my sons hair, a difficult feat as my son can't seem to sit still and still manages to do a great job. I decided to write a review because I realized after my recent haircut with Sandra that I love coming here! One reason because Sandra listens to my hairstyling wishes/concerns (obviously because I also love how my hair turns out) and two because of the professional she is, she usually has suggestions on ways to keep my hair looking healthy and maintained. Another reason I needed to write this review especially during these Covid times is how the whole team here always welcomes me in when I arrive and I appreciate this as it is easy for only your hairstylist to greet you, but when EVERYONE greets you, that's something special. Its rare to find a salon where you feel ALL the workers there do a great job, which is why I strongly recommend this place. Robinna was in a rush during the hair cut when she saw her next client walk in. Hair Results: looked like it was done in a rush. Not a good first impression but willing to give a second try. 2nd visit: Made an appointment for myself with Issac - Color, Haircut and Blow-Dry. I show him a picture of what I want and he says, "well... this is a color correction and you didn't book for a color correction". I tell him, okay. Well just redo my hair with the same color or something similar to what I currently have. He then says...."this service is now a hair consultation". It had been almost 4 years since I cut my hair. It was really long and thick I wanted a few inches off w/ long layers. I had an appt w/ Isaac. When I first walked in the door nobody was around. I just heard talking in the back room so I stood there for a few minutes waiting. When I first met Isaac he was nice but too much chatting with other co-workers was a bit distracting. I have to say, he works meticulously. However, for someone with long and very thick hair, he needed to texturize. I'll be honest, I was satisfied of how it came out after the blow out because it was nice and sleek. It always looks better when someone else does it but after washing my hair and styling it on my own, I noticed the layers were too blunt for my thick hair. When I work out, I always liked to put it up in a high ponytail but now it just looks silly bcz it's so thick and blunt. I'm not asking for a refund or anything I paid him for his labor and tip but I wouldn't come back. Seems like a nice person but my hair didn't come out to my liking. I wanted to take less time untangling and drying my hair with the the new cut/layers but still ended up with the same thickness and routine getting ready. It's very tiring. I want to say that I love this place. I came here for the first time this week. I wanted to tone my hair into grey and I was told Nikki was the person to go to and they were right. I had an appt for 3:30 but I got there almost an hour ahead of time. Luckily Nikki was available and said she'd start already. We spoke about what I wanted and she gave me prices. She started and even though she didn't need to, she explained every step and every thing she did so that I could understand why she was doing it. The place is very nice, actually felt like a loft. Very comfy couches to sit on while you wait. The style is amazing. Nikki finished with my hair at 8:15. I have a lot of hair, like a lot, and so that's why it took. Sandra is amazing!!! I moved to the area recently and was looking for a salon that used Olaplex, which is how I found Sandra. From my initial contact, Sandra was warm and knowledgable! I have been to her twice: once for a stand-alone Olaplex a few months ago and then a month ago for a color (plus Olaplex). It's been over a month and my color is still vibrant and my hair is super shiny!!! I went in wanting a gloss because I didn't want to damage my hair with color. Sandra listened to what I wanted and said she carried a line called Kuene, an organic color line, which would last longer than a gloss, so I went for it. And I'm glad I did!! I came in with Berlin a few days ago. My hair needed some TLC, She had did my highlights back in November not only did it last but it did not turn brassy or orange. Mind you before I seen her my hair was damaged she explained to me and went over what she was going to do to help the integrity of my hair. I was lucky enough to finally find a salon that is welcoming and feels comfortable. My search for olaplex led me to Prodigy and my at home hair dye jobs led me to find olaplex. I set up a consultation and met with Missy. I am so happy she worked on my hair. First, at the consultation, I got an olaplex treatment to prep my hair for the color correction I would be getting the following week. What a difference it made! My hair felt so much healthier. Missy really knew her stuff and made me feel comfortable in her hands. For the color correction, I don't think I could have asked for anybody better than Missy to take care of my fragile hair. She took the time to make sure everything came out right and really seemed to care about the condition of my hair. After a long day and hard work, my hair was the tone I always tried to get but never could with my dark brown/ black hair- -ash. She also fixed the bad haircut I had. Love it! Platinum Blonde is the second color I've gotten done at Prodigy Hair Loft and I just have to say I am obsesseddddd. I told Sandra exactly what color I wanted and she delivered and more. She was beyond helpful throughout the process and even before the actual appointment. She told me exactly what I needed to put in my hair to prepare for the bleaching sessions and everything I needed after to maintain such healthy and beautiful hair. I got my hair cut by Tlalla and she did a wonderful job. She listened to what I wanted, asked questions and executed my cut exactly the way I asked for it. She was also super sweet! Even though she had a line of walk-in customers waiting, I appreciated that she didn't rush through my cut to start working on the other customers. She did a precision cut and even continued to perfect the cut after drying my hair. This cut is definitely worth more than I paid for it! $50 is a reasonable price to begin with, and I received 20% off for being a new customer. I'm very pleased! Sandra, the owner, is also great. She has a bubbly personality and was very welcoming to me when I entered the salon. I'm not sure what the one-star-Yelper is referring to...Sandra mentioned to me that since she is the owner, that cuts by her can be more expensive than the other hair stylists. It made sense to me and she explained it in a polite fashion. I'm definitely coming back once my cut starts to grow out and I would definitely recommend anyone I know to come here.
