I had a really great experience at Salon90. I needed a hair cut last minute and she was able to get me in. She did a great job cutting and cleaning up my frizzled hair mess. My hair looked so much better when I left the place. We had great conversation and it was really obvious that she had a lot of experience working on hair. I liked that. She had some great suggestions to get my hair healthier but was not pushy at all with her products. The inside of the salon looks really cool and feels nice, clean, professional and comfortable. Website booking was broken, and their email also wasn't working, so I messaged them here, told them about these issues, and said that I was interested in booking. The person who replied did not apologize for the annoyance re: all their stuff being broke, and no thanks for bothering to bring these issues to their attention. I'm a short-hair person. Since I was seven, I've had approximately the same super-short "pixie" cut, and although I've grown my hair out several times, it's never lasted long. I traveled a LOT for work, and wash-and-wear hair was a necessity. And, to be candid, I like the attention short hair gets me. After a number of "eh" haircuts in upscale salons in London, Montreal, Toronto, New York...I thought it was time to find a haircutter in Pasadena, which has been my base for quite awhile now. And as luck would have it, I was shooting an event in Pasadena in June, 2018, when a woman walked past me with *my* haircut. I stopped her and asked her for her haircutter, and she gave me "Nellie/Salon90/Pasadena" and I scribbled that down and...promptly misplaced the note. When I found it a few weeks ago, I called the Salon and spoke with Chance, and booked an appointment with Nellie. Who is, I must say, Scissors Queen of SoCal. Maybe all of Cal. Possibly the entire Pacific Time Zone. Nellie did an amazing job on my overdue-for-a-clip locks, and created a shape that I truly love. Almost more important, the people who have to look at me every day love it, husband included. I can now never move out of SoCal, as I am getting too old to keep auditioning haircutters. It's exhausting--the hope, the fear, the "eh" haircut...the "it will grow...." Nope. Nellie got it right the first time. Did I mention she's a delightful woman? She is. And Chance is so lovely. Got a Groupon to get my nails done. I read the reviews and I like the pics that I saw. When you do walk into the salon you notice it's personality. The set up is really nice I like how there is a mosaic piece on the ground when you enter, I also like how there is brick walls. While I was there I decided to get a hair treatment just to get my hair washed and I'm kind of feeling soft. The nail tech was nice enough to ask the front desk if there was anything available and a gentleman with funky blond hair and glasses whose name I forgot assisted me. It was honestly the best hair treatment I've gotten and I get them often. I don't get many blowdryers often but every now and again I will get a conditioning treatment and when I left and my hair started to dry I was amazed at how soft my hair was, and I loved it! He used Keristase products at the time he told me what they were and I forget which I'm regretting now but it was great. The picture attached to this review is for the nail service. Honestly I wasn't paying much attention while it was happening I only realized after the fact that she never cut my cuticles. When I got home I noticed my nails and how they were blotchy on the sides I know was a Groupon, But there was a little Asian nail salon I could've gone to for $12 and I feel as if I would've had a better manicure experience. They didn't have that many nail polish options in my opinion they didn't have like a basic black. One was shimmery the other was matte. Also my manicure was stopped halfway then I was told to get my hair service that I went back to finish the nails. Again, it all happened really quickly and I didn't really realize what it was happening I understand and appreciate that they were trying to fit me in so I love that, but my nails I didn't love so much. read more

I never ever ever write reviews, I just pretty much use yelp to find places, but my experience here was so wonderful that I had to write something...a long something lol. Okay, so this review is LONG overdue. And since I've had the results for about 2 months now, I have a lot to say. LOL First off, let me start by saying that Casey is absolutely the best! I went 10/27/12 and she told me she was new to the salon. At first that made me nervous because I've had Horrible haircuts, so the reason I chose Salon90 was because of their experienced stylists. My past 2 cuts and colors before finding her had been absolutely horrible. I went from long, flowy, natural brown hair to choppy uneven layers and highlights that made me look like a yellow streaked skunk. Then when I tried to have that fixed 9 months later when my hair had finally grown back enough, a new stylist at a different salon chopped my hair all off and left me with hair up to my shoulders and a "brown" that washed out red every time I washed it. So, needless to say, I was very nervous and skeptical when I got Casey at Salon 90. But thank god I did. She is absolutely amazing. I hadn't had "MY HAIR" in about 2 years. It took 2 years to ruin so I always thought it would take me as long to get it back to its original perfection. Well Casey did it in about 2 hours. At the beginning of my appointment, she really took the time to talk to me about what I wanted. She made sure to ask questions throughout the entire process, was very upfront with me about price and explained what she thought would work best for me. Going in my hair was very dry and broken, and it was cut straight across so it looked short. After she cut it my hair surprisingly looked longer. She gave me a couple of subtle layers that I absolutely love. When it comes to the color, I didn't plan on having anything done to it since the last color had pretty much washed out and i was sporting a almost natural ( in the light you could still see the skunk streaks from before lol) color. Mostly I was just scared to ruin it more. Lol but Casey told me she didn't want to do anything drastic, just kind of take me back to my original color and make it look shiny and healthy instead of dull how it currently was. I decided to just go for it and I can't be any happier. It looked absolutely perfect and still does. Texture wise is where she worked the real miracle. All I can say about the texture about my hair now is MOROCCONOIL & CASEY. She used MOROCCONOIL on me to shampoo and condition my hair and she also did a treatment with it. I bought a bottle of shampoo and conditioner to take home and they're pretty small and pricy but totally worth it. It's one of those products where a little goes a long way. I've been using both every other day for 2 months now and it'll probably last me another 2 or 3 weeks. & it smells good! My hair is finally back to being "MY HAIR." Soft, shiny, strong, silky, and perfect. I will never ever switch to a different stylist and I will never use another product again other than Moroccanoil. She is the best! If you've ever had a bad haircut and are looking for a new stylist, trust me and go see CASEY. trust me you won't regret it. I'm posting up a pic of my hair after she did the cut and color. I'm not confident enough to show anyone what it looked like before lol. But just imagine a homeless person with ratty, broken hair. Haha. I was one hour early for my appointment and they just barely open but Nellie, the owner and the stylist was gracious to move up my schedule. The place is huge, clean and had lots of light coming from the glass ceiling. Very organized and classy. It even had complimentary Keurig coffee station and lemon/cucumber ice water. Nellie was very accommodating and asked what style I desired. I came in her salon looking like a plain Jane and went out styling. Love love what she did to my hair, lot of bounce and layers. Updating my review - The owner, Nellie, reached out to me regarding my first review and offered me a complimentary haircut with Karla to make up for my bridesmaids experience. I can definitely continue to rave about Karla. I absolutely love my haircut and the style she gave me. She was also incredibly fast. I don't think anyone has every been able to cut, blow dry and style my curl, frizzy hair in under and hour and she did it in 40 min! I'd say my overall recommendation here is just to make sure you match your stylist with what you are looking for. Karla is definitely the most experienced with up-dos and special occasion styles. Suzie was my stylist, and she was super friendly and helpful in helping me decide what type of cut I wanted. I was looking for something very different - she suggested bangs, which I was quite skeptical about since I haven't had bangs since I was a kid. I ended up loving it. Glad I went with her advice! I went here after doing some research on salons in my area, including ones that carry Moroccan Oil brand of shampoo & conditioners (AMAZING product line). I was greeted with a smile & a wealth of friendliness! There wasn't anyone there but me, which was nice and I even got the owner, Nellie, to work on my hair. Special me, right? She turned out to be so nice & friendly and gave me a GREAT haircut! Next time I go back, I'm definitely booking her, although I have a hunch the other stylists that work there are good too. 11 out of 10 I have short, coloured hair. Badly needing a good cut and colour correction. I was lucky enough to come across this salon, and experienced owner, Nellie, via Yelp, having had a string of very mediocre cuts in the Pasadena/Altadena area over the past couple of years. The salon is classy and low key eye catching. Tea offered by the lovely Chance was welcome and good. Two cups! Nellie is warm, friendly and very accomplished indeed. Comes with 30 years in the job. Clearly doing something she enjoys. She knew exactly what was required. It can't be easy handling someone else's colour slip, even if it's not an out and out disaster, it takes skill. She got it right. And was able to offer advice as to how I could maybe consider allowing some of the natural grey slide into an attractive new look without the highlights in future. Definitely something that's been on my mind. I really appreciated that input. Something I've never enjoyed before....Nellie said, twice, that if I had any questions, issues, wanted to talk anything through after a few days, just give her a ring. Didn't think I would have. But I did, and we spoke and that was also very helpful. I left the salon very happy with the result and would recommend it wholeheartedly. I'll be returning myself and looking forward to it. This review is for their manicurist. She did get me the color I wanted, and my nails dried quickly. But I felt a little rushed maybe because she has another appointment immediately after mine. They have plenty Essie and OPI colors. It's a little weird getting a manicure while others are getting haircuts, but this salon is super close to my place and I needed a fast touch up on my nails. Receptionist is really friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of spots for 2-hr street parking in front of the salon. SO, I don't trust just anyone with my hair. That's why it took me 2 years to finally go to someone I COULD trust to cut it. I read up on Nellie on the website for her salon and thought I'd give her a try seeing as how she has MUCH training at Toni & Guy as well as Redken. Well I went to Nellie and.....I LOVE LOVE LOVE my haircut! She styled it EXACTLY the way I wanted her to. She is SO nice and the salon is incredibly adorable. I love her assistant Chrissy. She was VERY helpful and super nice as well. The other stylist, Sheryl(I think), did a great job on a guys hair while I was there so I would recommend her too. it was my first time coming and I got exactly what i asked for! I always get nervous when I make an appointment somewhere new and they don't ask me any questions before setting the appointment. I have platinum bleached hair and there are a lot of variables at play, color temperature, how long since the last time, how does your hair/scalp normally react etc... At other salons i feel like I have to blurt all this out before they get started so that they know what I want, but Nellie beat me to it and asked all the right questions up front, which put me at ease. She was meticulous about getting every square inch just right and perfectly blending my extremely grown out roots with the rest of my hair. Believe it or not, my hair felt healthier after getting BLEACHED than it did when i came in. I am a happy camper. I also loved the ambiance and the fact that there wasn't any forced small talk.
