This is more a review for Dori who has been cutting my hair for over 10 years. What I want to say is that they say a mark of a good haircut is that when it grows out, your haircut still looks fresh and amazing. That is exactly what my cuts from Dori look like. I have literally been asked by coworkers I see every day if I got a new haircut even though the last time I did was 6 months ago. I even let her cut off the most hair I ever did because I trusted her and yes, I got more compliments :) I always feel more confident after I see her and get asked all the time about who does my hair. She is nice and gentle with you, knows how to work with different hair types (mine is finer), and also is pretty quick (I just get a standard wash/cut/blow dry). For quite a while, I was on the lookout for a new haircut style and after seeing some pictures and videos of people getting wolf cuts and shag cuts on social media, I was encouraged to try a new style. I had been going to one hair salon for a few years now and usually got the same style of hair, a bob with no layers. I reached out to a friend and was referred to Dori. I shot Dori a quick text message with my name and a time and date and she was quick to respond. She asked for some reference photos of the style I was looking for plus she asked for pictures of my hair from the front, side, and back. At first, I was a little nervous going to a new hair stylist, but Dori made me feel super comfortable. I would tell her about certain concerns I had with the hair style, such as not wanting to make the hair cut too short and we were able to come up with a good plan for my cut. She followed my references really well and she really understood how thick/voluminous my hair can be and adjusted the cut to make it super flattering for me. I was absolutely jazzed with how the hair cut turned out! I don't think I've ever had such a wonderful hair salon experience from the fun I had talking with Dori to the attention to detail that Dori put on my hair cut. I am absolutely looking forward to getting my future hair cuts with Dori. c: By the way, as a side note: If you're interested in getting your cut at Biyoshi and you want to book a certain stylist, make sure to get the number of the person you're trying to reach out to! She gives great styling tips for my fine, stick-straight hair that usually refuses to keep a curl, and recommends products and tools that are within my budget and fit my lifestyle (rather than some places who recommend something expensive or trendy just because). My cuts typically only take 30/45 minutes because she's so efficient, and she always curls my hair on the way out which is a lovely touch. I've been coming to Biyoshi for the past 10 years and would not trust anyone else to cut my bangs. Biyoshi was the first stylist to ever point out a cowlick I had that made all my other bang trims uneven and since then I have left the salon with perfect bangs every time. He and his staff literally get to know the heads they are styling, figure out how best to shape the hair around them and communicate consistently to make sure they're giving you what you want and what makes you look your best. I went in for highlights and a cut today and Rachel and Biyoshi did an amazing job! I've never had highlights and I was nervous that they might come out looking drastic or chunky but Rachel listened to me and pulled off beautiful, subtle highlights that make such a huge difference to my dull blonde(ish) hair. Ask for Dori when you come! She totally changed my perspective when it comes to getting my hair cut. I was accustomed to getting my haircut preference misinterpreted and having my hair butchered (this one hair stylist thought I wanted uneven bangs, so each strand was crooked on my forehead. Cried on the cutting chair. HAHA), so it was refreshing to come to a stylist who knew what she was doing and did it well. I trusted her so much, I let her cut off 6 inches of my hair! Dori is amazing!! Here's why: 1. She really listens to what you want. 2. She gives you an honest opinion based on your needs. For example, I told her that I am a "wash and wear" kind of girl, and she gave me good feedback on styles that work and don't work. (Needless to say, won't be cutting bangs for a while...) 3. She is great to talk with about other things besides hair, and really makes you feel relaxed. 4. Shampoo and blow dry is included, which is nice. 5. Her haircuts are PRECISE! Part of it was laziness for sure, but I was able to go 7 months between cuts, and my hair still looked decent. 6. My haircut cost $40 (tax included in that number, excluding tip), which is pretty reasonable -- especially since she spent almost an hour with me last time. 7. You can get a drink while you're getting your hair done! 8. Both times I've been, I've been able to get an appointment within 2 days tops. Biyoshi is not a huge salon as far as space goes, nor is it flashy. However, it has a clean, comfortable feel and the staff is really nice. Perfect for my needs. Finding someone to cut my straight, thick hair (I know, I know...cue the tiny violins) without messing it up is pretty difficult, but I'm glad I found Dori!! read more
