I stumbled upon Pro J's Cycles after my girlfriend got into a minor motorcycle accident and decided to take a chance with them. I was greeted by Liz at the front counter who was not only very kind, patient and accommodating, but also very direct. I respect a shop that is no BS. In addition to this, their prices are somehow pretty decent compared to other shops in the area. I was skeptical (how can this shop be so good?!). Jose installed a new tire in under 15 minutes for a wheel that I brought to them. When my girlfriend's motorcycle would not shift into neutral the day before I was meeting with a new buyer - Jose and Liz saved my butt. They were direct, gave a rough quote and a timeline so my expectations were met and I was not left guessing when the job would be completed. Turned out the transmission needed a new shifter fork due to the accident. In no time, this was sorted out. They gave the motorcycle an oil change and minor alignment. They were even kind enough to help us with the paperwork for the sale of the motorcycle. Everyone left happy with no surprises. I always take all my bikes that I have owned to Jose for any issue and he takes care of it. Best motorcycle mechanic in the Bay Area! I had an issue recently with my bike that I knew only Jose could fix. Within the hour he found out what was wrong with my bike and assured me that what happened with the bike was a factory defect, and furthermore gave me the best possible solutions and options to go forth. Terrible experience with this shop. They diagnosed a problem with my bike and when I brought the bike home I noticed lots of broken and missing parts from their failed attempt to repair it. I can't believe they still had the audacity to charge for the service . The bike had a rattling sound when I tried to turn it over and later found out It was due to a broken spark plug . Part of the plug was still attached to the ignition coil which was where that sound was coming from. There was another plug which had been tightened so much the thread's were stretched, and the other's were barely hand tight. The shop showed total lack of integrity after I contacted them to try and resolve the situation . I feel completely deceived and ripped off from the services rendered at this shop . read more

Reply to the CEO: I was respecting your sign that says private driveway. If Jose was professional, he would have approached me when he saw me rather than just staring at me and then waving me off. Again he waved me off 3 times. A wave is not the same as a pointing gesture to park at a spot. I was not blocking the entrance as no one was behind me. I made sure people can pass me on the left. Even so, he could have approached me to see what I needed instead of just standing by the door. It's not unrealistic for someone to respect a private driveway + no u turn sign. The person on the phone was very easy to talk to and said to come over and he'll see if a tire replacement is needed. I get there and cannot figure out where the entrance is. Is it the smog test shop or the muffler shop/food truck entrance? So I drive into a driveway of a muffler shop and a food truck where it says private driveway no U turn. Figured out the muffler shop and pro j are in the same building. Saw someone with a pro j shirt on and came out of my vehicle. From 30 feet away he waved me off... I said I'm here for pro j and that I called. He waved me off again. I said a second time and got waved off - not even interested as to what I said. He just watched me drive off. Just finished a "full tune-up" with pro-J's and all evidence suggests that Jose's team was very conscientious in working on my bike. The turnaround was very quick and communication was quite good as well. I highly recommend this shop if you need anything for your bike! I have been to Jose twice now and I plan on going back next time I need anything. I needed new tires for my GSXR 1000 and he was able to do it the same day, he also did a great job on the front fork seals. A few weeks later I came back with my SV650s, this one was a bit more complicated... I couldn't get it to start and after a month of trying to figure it out myself I realized I needed professional diagnostics from an actual mechanic, Jose figured it out in a few hours after I had it trailered there, we ordered the parts (a new fuel pump and an ECU) and now I'm all set with both my bikes running great Thanks again dude I'll see you soon I'm sure read more

I brought in a 2014 CRF 250 to get a chain replacement and I was in and out within 30 minutes no appointments or anything these guys are really great and you can tell they care about getting the job done properly. And the price was more than reasonable. I was originally going to take my bike into Honda Yamaha in Berkeley and the price they quoted me was much higher than what Pro J Cycles charged me. This is an update to my previous post. I just went to a local shop, an Aprilia dealer in the neighborhood where I grew up, to replace the tire Pro J's replaced not yet three months ago. I didn't know they would service my bike or I'd have gone there, to begin with. They are returning my bike to me as-is. After over an hour just trying to get the axle out, they found that whoever worked on it last, Pro J's Cycles, did not put back the hardware on the left side of the axle so it is completely bent and cannot be serviced. Even if the hardware had been missing before, which is very doubtful, no honest, competent, shop would have completed the work and charged me for it without saying anything. So I may need to apologize. Maybe the tire that this shop sold me wasn't as bad as I thought. Maybe it was that the shop forgot to put back the hardware which ended up bending the axle and that's why the tire wore down so quickly. With the "Cash discount" I paid well over $600 to have one new tire and one used tire installed on my bike, forgetting the hardware and ruining the axle. How much would it have cost me to ruin my bike with a new tire and no discount? The Aprilia dealer wasn't even able to get the axle out. I'm going to have to order new bearings and relieve them of responsibility if the whole wheel ends up being toast. This is my first bike. I have owned it for just over six months and now it's going into storage. I guess I really did deserve to be laughed at by the owner for being a sucker and trusting his shop. read more

This guy here.. this genuine guy here! gave me the best service any rider can have. He had to move mountains to find the problem of why my bike wasn't starting and we both had patience communicating to what it could've been, so he worked for two days to find the problem. He calls for any little detail to make sure your bike is in tip top shape. This time it was the power commander that had to be cut off and the throttle body not placed property due to accident or just moved idk but I would've never known this because I thought it was already placed right. 10 out of 10 would tell any rider out there to go to Jose. Im a new rider who has a newly purchased 2016 iron 883. After waking up today for a nice morning ride i noticed my steering was heavy and as i got down the block my wheel began to wobble. Immediately i pulled into the nearest gas station to inflate my tire and assess the rest of the bike. Without any knowledge or idea of what it can be i immediately went back home and called jose to let him know i was planning to come in once the tow truck company came and got the bike. Ive been referred to pro J by many veteran riders and new so i knew i was in good hands. We never got to find the exact problem on why it happened but jose definitely made sure i was safe and sound and ready to get back on the road again and made sure he checked for any thing out of the ordinary. Everything was smooth and the people are nice but the only thing is am not comfortable if someone is fixing my motorcycle and am not able to see it. You should at least see what is getting fixed. There a gate which customers cannot cross and that made me upset. read more

I have a scooter that I over flowed the oil in. Gail cleaned it all up and had it back the same day. It still had white smoke coming out of it the next day even after riding it around a lot. I went back to him and Gail said it still needs to burn off, and it has. But while there i was low on gas so he hooked me up with some. Also learned that going short distances, it's a mile round trip commute to Bart, the battery will die more often. So next he gave me a jump so I could get home. Gail was super nice and patient informing me about my scooter. Almost forgot, Gail also cleaned scuff marks off the scooter as well as put screws in my battery holder. That's service! Great first experience today with Jose. Super nice honest guy, as is the whole crew that works there. Got a new bike a few days ago that had some rattling noises when I hit the throttle hard, he fixed the problem completely, tightened and lubed the chain, and pumped up the front tire; you can tell he really knows his stuff. As others have said, this place is the real deal, and very well priced compared to other shops in the Bay Area. Dropped my bike off in the afternoon the day I called him, and it was ready to ride the next day. He also took a few minutes to talk to me about the bike and what he did to it, great experience overall. Horrible, horrible Service. Trackside, this guy not only lost my rear caliper pad pin after a tire change, he bent my freshly powder coated wheel, during said tire change. Then had the audacity to say it was my fault for running over a curb, somewhere in track. He is a weasel and a fast talker. His work is sup par at best. I saw a really cool girl come off track with her bike smoking, after he did some simple Engine work, on her bike. He not only put my life a risk with his awful mechanical skills, but denied it was his fault after I know it was. If you value your life and Motorcycle at all, DONT BRING YOUR MOTORCYCLE HERE. BE WARNED!!!! In response to your rebuttal. My rim was ne er bent, until I got it back from you. I actually never road that rim after I got it back from you damaged. And let mr be clear, PLENTY OF RIDERS I talked to said" you brought you bike to Jose???" Implying you are not very good at your jobs, and actually I found out some other things about you guys, that I won't go into details about, but you have done this before and it won't be the last time. You are messy and keep hiding inside that trailer when you die tire changes. JASON , when he was running the show had that machine out in the open and Shawn, did all the changes right in front of us. I also brought my VTR1000 for repair and Tuning, they did a major tune up / upgrades, and found the timing was off O.o! Hey Yelp, I don't write a lot of reviews because I'm rarely surprised by the quality of goods and services in the Bay Area however I had to make an exception for the incredibly great service I got at Pro J's cycles! I have a 2014 Genuine Stella scooter that I just purchased but couldn't find anyone local to work on it. Rockridge two wheels has such a limited range of bikes they work on, and most mechanics who work on these types of scooters are in San Francisco. I called José at Pro J's based on their yelp reviews, and I've got a backup all of the positive things that people say about them!! Not only is their professionalism and the incredible quality of their work worth noting, but José is truly a gem! You know how people talk about mechanics in the past who would go the extra mile to make a customer glad they brought their bike in to them to be worked on, well José is that guy!! He gave me an incredible deal for his work and I cannot be happier with the way he brought my scooter back to life! It was like a different bike than the one I originally brought him!! I really can't recommend this place enough, especially if you've had bad experiences at other scooter/motorcycle mechanics.
