I bought a Chinese motorcycle there ,was charged a whole bunch of tax for the motorcycle went to another place and told me I was overcharged there .Got a leak on my motorcycle after eight months took it back and the mechanic acts like he doesn't know how to fix it. These guys are fantastic. I bought an Electric Scooter from Prowheels to ride around Berkeley for kicks. It ended up working so well that I am able to ride it to Jack London Square and back on a full charge...and I am not a small guy :) Matthew and Jason are extremely patient and friendly. Hopefully these guys are serious about this business and bring some of the more powerful EV Scooter stateside; if so I am first in line. These guys are a perfect example of what a good local business is all about. I went in to see if I could schedule an appointment to get my brakes adjusted. Prowheels - Motorcycle Repair Near Me - El Sobrante, California

Went in for a clutch problem which all they didn't was adjust the cable which I could've done in 5 minutes. That was 65$ and took 4 days. I paid for a new kickstand 25$ instead the gave me some rusted old one off a different bike. That fell off on my way home. When he adjusted my chain he didn't tighten my axle bolts all the way and when I got home one of them almost fell off. They took out a stud in my header and put a new one. That was 80$. Only thing they did right was get me a new battery. I fixed all the problems I had with the bike with 6-7 hours of labor and maybe 10$ worth of parts. Never let someone random work on your bike. It could end up very bad. I got lucky but I think this place is the worst repair shop ever. Overall I spent 180$ at Prowheels for them to "fix" my bike (which took them 4 day) and I fixed all the problems I had and that they made with 10$ and 6-7 hours. read more

After so many counts of repeated incompetence, I'm now extremely skeptical of the validity of all these 5 star reviews. While a couple of them appear to be from real people (incentivized?), please take special note that: - They are ALL 5 stars. Every single one. - They have *more filtered* reviews than non-filtered! RED FLAG! - Most of the filtered and even a couple of the non-filtered are left by "people" who have reviewed ONLY this place and have ZERO friends. SUPER RED FLAG!! What kind of business needs to cook its Yelp reputation so badly that it posts so many obviously fake reviews? I actually had an OK experience with Prowheels at first. They were in the middle of moving from Berkeley to El Sobrante, but they still worked with me and serviced my scooter. They didn't give me a receipt, and the communication wasn't great (some sort of status--eg what had to be done & what the total is--works a lot better than "your scooter's ready"), but they did what I asked them to (afaik) and didn't charge very much, so I was content. But then my next experience was laden with so much consistent incompetence that it actually negated my prior satisfaction with them. So what happened? Well about a week after my OK experience, my scooter needed additional service. They're now in El Sobrante, so I look for other viable options in or near Berkeley -- there are seemingly none. So I rent a pickup and tow it out to their new location in El Sobrante. I wait til a Saturday to do this since their weekday hours aren't friendly to people who work in SF, and they have no early bird drop service. I next hear from them the following Wednesday while I'm at work. Mistakenly thinking they are probably not cavemen, and that "voicemail" is not a technology that would mystify them, I don't answer, allowing them to leave me a message. They don't. They call again 8 minutes later. STILL no message. I don't know about you guys, but if someone calls me twice in 8 minutes and leaves a message NEITHER time, it's either a telemarketer, a stalker, or something seriously urgent. 15 minutes later, a 3rd call... and FINALLY a voicemail. "Hello, Mr. D, your scooter is ready." That's it. Nothing about what they had to do, nor what the total was. So I call back 15 minutes after that, when I'm outside of the office on a break. No answer. ***I leave a voicemail (since I understand such technology)*** asking them 1. What's the total? and 2. Is it ok if I pick it up on Saturday since I work in SF during the week? I also say "please feel free to leave a voicemail since I can't answer my phone at work." They never return my voicemail. I figure "ok, well I guess they're busy, and that picking it up on Saturday is fine." They call me again on Friday. No message is left. Saturday morning I rent a pickup again since they're so far away now and not even reachable via BART. Their website, prowheelsus.com, is pretty broken and does not list their hours, but they are listed here on Yelp, and (at the time of my experience and this writing) they are "Mon-Sat 10am - 6pm; Sun 12 pm - 5pm" -- and I KNOW they updated their info within the past 2 weeks because they updated their address from Berkeley to El Sobrante. So I arrive at 10:35am and they are completely CLOSED. Doors locked, lights off, no one inside. I call. No answer. I leave a voicemail and say "Hi, it's Jared D., I'm here to pick up my scooter, and your hours say you open at 10am, but no one is here, so now I have to return the truck I rented by the hour; and I also left a voicemail on Wednesday that no one responded to... could someone please give me a call back and let me know what's going on?" Several hours pass. I call again at 1:43, at 1:44, and at 2:51 - no answer. I start thinking the likely explanation is the shop owner had some sort of emergency, and consider calling the business next door to ask them if they can see anybody alive inside. FINALLY someone answers at 3:06pm and says they'll be open until 4:30. By the dumbest of luck, the CityCarShare truck near me happens to be available for the next 90 minutes (Saturdays it's usually taken all day), so I book it for a 2nd time that day, and haul ass back over there. When I arrive, of course I ask why why why. Why didn't anyone ever return my voicemail from Wed? Why weren't you open at 10:30 this morning? Why didn't anyone ever return the [rather important] voicemail I left this morning?? Why did no one answer the phone all day? Instead of any sort of apology, my very legitimate frustration was countered only with apathy, indignance, shrugs, and a whole lot of "dude"s. As if I were the bad guy. They had even performed service on my scooter I didn't ask for. To top it all off, they offered ZERO recompense, disregarding that they ruined my Saturday when I had a lot of important shit to do; wasted my time, mood, and money for the extra wasted truck rental. Conclusion: AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you at all value your time, sanity, or dignity. read more

Great store! I've been really frustrated having an "off brand" scooter (not Yamaha, Honda, etc) for awhile because when anything went wrong with my little Chinese scooter, nobody in Berkeley would even take a look at it. While I've learned a lot about scooter repair over the past two years, I was overjoyed to find that Prowheels has a great mechanic that can fix Chinese scooters. Matthew, the owner, was really friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions, gave me a call with an estimate before any work was done on the scooter, and even trusted me to drive it away and get cash to pay him when his debit card machine wasn't working right. Jason, the mechanic, was also great. Not only did he fix my scooter, he even *cleaned* my scooter. I brought it in with spiderwebs all over it (since it had been sitting around not running for a month and a half), and he returned it looking like new! He even called me afterwards to give me some suggestions on changing the oil and showed me how to take one of the panels off so I could work on something on my own. In addition, he actually fixed some of the parts that were not working (rather than just ordering a new part straight away) in order to keep the repair cost low. Overall, I'm really happy Prowheels is here. If you have a scooter, it's great to have a store nearby for parts and maintenance. I wish I had bought my scooter here in the first place (rather than online) becuase it would have been nice to have them here for questions and maintenance all along! read more

I was surprised to find that this place works on motorcycles as well as scooters. I have brought my Ninja 650r here multiple times for help with internal mods. The owner, Matthew, is professional and personable. The mechanic, Manuel, is a little more quiet and reserved, but you get the impression that he really knows what he's doing. Matthew also let my dog in the shop and shared Baklava with me. 5 stars! Rate for labor is $69 an hour, I don't know how good or bad that is but they work very fast. read more

I am livid. I am beyond the point of disbelief. Unbelievable, who the hell did I give my bike to? It looked worse than when I drop it off. It did not even run! You had the bike a year WTF! It was not even washed the chain was rusted. I would not hire them to wave flies off crap! I am having my bike taken to a professional. The bike was dirty, the mirror was swinging around. I was shopping around for scooters and drove all the way out because I wanted to check out a scooter they had posted on Craigslist. The lady up front was not very friendly and made me feel guilty and nervous (probably not on purpose, but her attitude made me uncomfortable, I don't know why, I was just asking questions about scooters). I believe that scooters that are 1000w or below is legal without registration, but she convinced me otherwise so I did not buy anything. ProWheels is a great place for scooter repair/purchases, I highly recommend them! I have a few different reasons I'm very positive about this place that I'll go more in-depth on below, but the long and short of it is that they were really friendly and helpful and worked with me to get my vintage scooter repaired after I'd been going on ~1 year trying to get other mechanics to repair it, all of which failed. ProWheels is actually one of the only Bay Area scooter shops that knows what it's doing! By the time I took my old, old Suzuki scooter to ProWheels, I'd gone through 3 other mechanics. Some of those were found on Yelp, and one on Craigslist. Everybody "looked at" my scooter and certainly charged me a lot of money for their supposed repairs. Nothing worked and I was going crazy with frustration- that's when I decided to make a couple final calls for repairs before selling my scooter for scrap. When I called ProWheels and spoke with Matthew, everything felt better to me from that point because of how calming and reassuring he was that he/his mechanic staff could figure it out, as they have lots of experience with scooters OLD and new. I brought my scooter to the shop- which was easy to get to just a minute off the highway (although Matthew did offer to do a home pickup I wanted to stop by Costco which is also not far). Speaking with Matthew, he assured me the repair could be done, but because of certain issues involving availability of vintage parts the repair was going to take just a bit longer than normal scooters. I was so happy to have that kind of honest assessment; not a generic "yes we will fix it 100% in 1 day please pay us now" like I'd experienced at other area scooter shops. Matthew and his mechanic helped source some of the parts I needed and I helped out with some parts I picked up over time trying to do my own repairs. The whole time, Matthew was so helpful and friendly, I knew I was finally at a repair shop that was going to fix my scooter for good. After some parts came in through the mail and the mechanic worked to install them, and troubleshoot other issues my scooter had e.g. clogged exhaust, I got the call that my Suzuki was up and running beautifully! WHAT A RELIEF, Yelp, you have no idea how that was like music to my ears!! Finally, after all my frustration with other repair shops and freelancers, ProWheels was my savior. Between the good location, easy-going owner, smart and experienced mechanics, and patience with my own frustration, these guys get a solid 5 stars. Other reviews on this page say it's "suspicious" how ProWheels keeps getting 5 stars; if you ask me, after going through so many Bay Area scooter mechanics and ProWheels being the only one to back up their expertise, I can't give them anything but 5 stars. I agree with the others -- this place ROCKS! I have a scooter I bought from a friend and then didn't ride it enough, so it got sluggish and needed to be brought back to good health. Their pickup fee (from Walnut Creek) was very reasonable and their diagnostics top notch. The work was done in less than 2 days and was very fairly priced. They even helped with some minor issues "after the sale" that gave me a great deal of peace of mind. Even thought there are NO scooter repair places in berkeley and the closest ones are too snobby to take the typical college student scooter that is an illegal 2-stroke chinese lawn mower engine on wheels, these guys picked up, and dropped back off. They were able to cut me a great deal, and they were friendly and patient with me through the whole process. I wish that there was such a thing as giving zero stars to a business, because that is what this shop deserves. I chose to bring my scooter to their service shop while they were still located in Berkeley based on their convenient location, 5 star reviews, and incredibly cheap labor rates. Well what I learned from my experience with Prowheels is that Matthew is a greasy salesman who knows nothing about how to work on bikes, his mechanics don't know what they're doing, and the entire experience was incredibly unprofessional. When I brought my scooter into Prowheels for a check-up, I ended up with more issues than I had started out with, and had to return the scooter to the shop and demand that they fix whatever problem they had created. They gladly took the bike back and "fixed it" without giving me much explanation of what the core issues were. After handing me a bill for $450, they didn't offer a receipt of services and told me that I could take a picture of their notes scribbled onto a pad of paper if I wanted to have a record of what they had done on the scooter. Now let's fast forward a year later and my scooter starts acting up again. After being traumatized from a horrible experience with Prowheels, I brought my scooter into a different motorcycle/scooter repair shop, which was actually reported to be reliable and honest. Turns out that the source of my scooter issues were that all of the parts that Prowheels had replaced were incorrect and not made for my scooter brand/model. So all in all, what Prowheels gave me was poor communication, dishonest service, incorrect parts, and persisting mechanical problems. If you're not interested in any of these services, then I strongly recommend that you do not waste your time going to Prowheels. read more

I first met Matthew and Jason when I took an electric scooter to them for assistance when it had lost power. I foolishly took the electric wheel in first, Jason couldn't find anything wrong with it, but once apart cleaned and lubed it. As the scooter still didn't have any power I took the whole thing in and they found the batteries were no longer functional. They found the right batteries, cleaned the scooter and it works great. I told them I was interested in selling it and Matthew offered to put it on display at the Pro Wheels showroom. I have found Matthew to be a very generous individual, willing to go out of his way to help others with their needs. I also find Jason to be much the same. I know he had to do some searching to find the correct battery as it was not the same model they have at the shop. I highly recommend them. Prowheels towed it for me in a timely manner, fixed it in a timely manner, and helped me load it into my trunk in order to save me the money of having it towed back to Berkeley. Whenever I bring my moped in they fix it super fast and often they charge me much less than other places would charge. Like the other day, I went in and the work they did took 2 hours but instead of charging me for 2 hours of work they only charged me for 1 hour. His name is Matthew. I showed him the tank and the chain and asked if he could help me. He told me no problem he can order the parts and have them in just a few days. I've lived next to ProWheels for 2 years now and I haven't met, seen, or heard of anyone named John C. living here in the 4plex. I haven't seen any "Klx's" here so it leads me to believe that YOU'RE A FAKE John C. Your motives are disturbing and you should stick to your "basic understanding" and fix your own bike. The "staff" you speak of (2 People) have never heard or seen of you. You're correct in saying that "you don't know what their doing", especially from your bedroom window.
