The project covered most aspects of the home, including changing the wiring, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, roofing, windows, doors, and refinishing all walls inside and out as well as expanding some rooms and raising ceilings. Mike had a capable team, suppliers, and subs. Jason, the project foreman, especially stood out with strong communication and clever problem solving when surprises came up. One thing we appreciated was how Mike and Jason proactively offered ideas to make the remodel better. Many of our favorite details of the remodel are actually the result of their suggestions, such as flipping our living room layout and creating a storage area in the attic. We're now at 9 months since the remodel and it has held up well and we're happy with the results. A few areas did need minor follow-ups, but Mike and Jason have been responsive and handled everything. We had previous projects with other contractors who wouldn't respond or follow through on follow-ups, so this has been a relief and a reason we'd choose Mike and Jason again for future projects.

I fired Matt G. (Cal Pro Contractors) and his team after they screwed up 2 of the showers that they…read moredid for us. I hired a different contractor to fix and finish the 2nd shower and do the 3rd shower. Matt and his team ended up costing me more money and a much longer timeline to finish remodeling 3 showers in the end. Here's why: 1) Matt, the project manager was not around to supervise his team's work. Matt went on vacation for the first few days of work. His team was not briefed on the work that needed to be done. I had to go over the project with his team and buy materials like the shower niche that Matt was supposed to provide. Later, I learned very quickly that Matt didn't do any of the hands-on work. His team did all the work. He was supposed to supervise the work to make sure it was done correctly and help resolve any problems that might come up. He turned out to be more of a ghost project manager. He would appear and disappear at our house after a quick look at the shower work. Didn't let me know when he was coming or going. 2) Subcontractors: Matt uses subcontractors. They are always in a hurry to do the job so they can move on to the next job quickly. They don't take time to do quality work. 3) Does not guarantee quality work: When things go wrong, they don't want to fix it to make sure things are properly done. 4) Poor customer service: Matt does not want to hear when things are going wrong and when problems are brought up to him, he gets angry and does not address and appease the customer's concerns. He leaves trash and shower debris next to house all during the project rather than clean up mess each week. 5) Excuses rather than solutions: Matt had more excuses than solutions in dealing with the poor quality work that his team did. 6) They wasted too much tile. I had to order more boxes of tile. I found good tiles in the trash bin that could have been used in other parts of the shower. 7) Some of their tiling work was bad and not in alignment (see photos). 8) Niche installed was not centered correctly. Matt told us we wouldn't notice it once it was tiled. 9) Shower cartridge was installed incorrectly. They had to remove the newly installed tile and HardieBacker wallboard to get to the shower cartridge. They did not read the instructions and placed the cartridge too far forward and cut the valve stems to close. They had to order new stems which delayed the shower's completion. 10) One of the showers did not drain properly. The bigger upstairs shower (29 X 58 inch floor) proved to be an even bigger nightmare. A 3 X 2-foot puddle of water remained at the bottom of the shower floor after a water test was done (see photos). Matt said, not to worry, that puddling would be fixed when they tiled the floor. Well, tiling the floor didn't fix the problem. The 3 X 2 foot puddle showed up again after we ran the shower. The puddle would take about 2 days to evaporate and be absorbed into the grouted floor. I pointed out this glaring problem to Matt when he eventually inspected the shower in person. He told me that puddling of water on a shower floor was not unusual and that this puddle met industry acceptable standards (he said that a lot about his other sloppy work). I pointed out that didn't sound right, that the floor could be damaged by standing water and it could be a slipping hazard. He looked me straight in the eyes and said with a straight face, that I COULD USE A SQUEEGEE TO REMOVE THE PUDDLE OF WATER. I thought he was kidding. From my research, there should never be a left-over shower puddle. The shower floor should fully drain within 15 minutes or less. After consulting with other tile and shower experts, I told Matt that the floor would have to be demolished, fixed and retiled. Matt's professional response, "You don't expect me to pay for this repair?" If Matt was a good businessman and stood by his work, he would have guaranteed his team's work and absorb all the costs for his team's screw ups. But he didn't, so I offered to pay for the extra tiles if his guys redo the cement floor. They tried again and messed up the shower floor a second time. I got more excuses from Matt, so I ended up firing him and his team. Eventually, thankfully, a family member visiting from another country for the holidays who is a professional tiler fixed the floor. No puddles and no need for a squeegee! Otherwise, we were quoted $4-6K by other contractors to fix it. If that had happened, we would have taken Matt to court. My rating of 1 is very generous considering all the problems, excuses, stress, extra costs and time this project cost us. Matt and his team should stay away from doing shower remodels because they do a very poor job. I wish I had hired an outside inspector to review Matt's work and let me know if they were doing things wrong. It's a hard lesson to learn. We did eventually have the third shower redone by another contractor. The shower came out great with no excuses or added costs...or a squeegee.

The original tile sub repaired the tile grout twice but ended up walking away from the job. At that point and to his credit, our general contractor hired Italian Heritage Tile and Stone to inspect the floor. Sal and Vince quickly determined the floor needed to be replaced; the original installation was defective. Sal estimated they could do the job in two weeks or less. In fact it took less, 9 work days, to remove the old tile and install the new floor. I would describe the process as seamless! The two workers arrived on time, cleaned up at the end of each day, and laid a beautiful floor. They went the extra mile to hand sort the tile to mach the vagaries of the tile we selected. In short it was the perfect experience!

We were first introduced to Adrian through a friend, and after meeting him and reading all of his great reviews, we knew he was the right fit. He came across as honest, fair, and dependable -- and that impression held true throughout the entire project. From August 2023 to July 2025, Adrian helped us transform our old 1940s 2-bedroom, 1-bath home into a modern 4-bedroom, 3-bath home. We asked him to help us take the project all the way through to the certificate of occupancy, while staying mindful of our budget. Although the project took a bit longer than planned -- partly due to our own design changes and some city staffing delays -- Adrian was always on schedule, responsive, and accountable on his end. What really stands out about Adrian is his meticulous attention to detail. We didn't work with a designer, but Adrian became a trusted sounding board for design recommendations, offering thoughtful input on everything from stucco finishes to flooring layouts, tile patterns, and even how to best position cabinet handles and door hardware. His craftsmanship and aesthetic sense elevated the entire project. Adrian also personally handled the installation of our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and the results are stunning -- the precision and care in his work really show. Beyond his skill, he's just a genuinely good person -- patient, communicative, and committed to doing things right. We're so grateful to have worked with Adrian. Building a home from the ground up is never simple, but with Adrian, we always felt confident and supported. We highly recommend Adrian Smith Construction to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled, and detail-oriented general contractor who truly cares about his clients and their homes.

WOW. Just WOW. Adrian made what is often a difficult and painful process genuinely enjoyable. He's a kind human, takes tremendous pride in his work, and I am honestly amazed by the final result. He was on time (actually a little early!), on budget, and made the entire process--from planning through post-work--feel smooth and well managed. He's hands-on, organized, and incredibly thoughtful. He explained everything clearly, answered my many questions with patience, and approached decisions creatively and collaboratively whenever tradeoffs came up. When choosing a general contractor, you want someone honest, reliable, and excellent at what they do. Adrian is all of that--and more. After months of working together, I'd honestly consider him a friend. When I have another remodel or addition to do, he will absolutely be my first call. I cannot recommend him highly enough. My mother had passed away and I needed a full bathroom remodel (bathroom was a SMALL 1950's with a…read moretoilet, sink, shower and pocket door as a regular door wouldn't even fit in there) and the first couple of times speaking with Mr. Ahmad in person, I was told the job would be well under $10k as I stated it was for a rental and lots of other improvements were being done by others so my budget was tight. Mr Ahmad asked if he and his team could camp out in sleeping bags in the house, (Pleasanton is a 30 min drive from Sunnyvale). I agreed of course as the house was vacant. Mr. Ahmad usually starts jobs around 9-10am he stated. We talked over the course of 2 weeks and I had asked over and over for a quote but never received one. Each time we talked, the verbal prices he told me of items increased. Soon it was $20k and then he said $30K would be the bare minimum he could remodel the small bathroom for. Then the next time we spoke he said he and his team would need hotel rooms... I wondered why? They live in Pleasanton, the weather was pretty warm out in June so they wouldn't freeze in the house and they start at 9am (after the morning commute) - I was very puzzled. He wanted me to house 3 guys in hotels for a week for a small bathroom remodel. (3 rooms for 4 nights) so that is well over $2k in hotel costs alone in cupertino. Then he said it would cost money to get the bathroom parts from Pleasanton to sunnyvale, so there would be some type of travel fee - that is RIDICULOUS!! Then he started talking about the upgrades -- I wanted basic but he wanted super fancy and this is a rental I kept explaining. Maybe his company is used to super fancy stuff, but he wasn't listening to the customer(me!) , and definitely wasn't providing me a written quote and I refused to pay $2k in hotel bills for a 30 min drive for his local team. This guy wants luxury and charges the customer so he can live in comfort... And just to add, his wife and him demanded a meeting with me at my Union City house to try to pressure me into using their company -- it was clearly them against me and it caused many hard feelings, enough to have me tell several friends to definitely not use this company. He had also offered to finance part of it earlier that day if I was not able to pay it all at once...he wanted that $30K as maybe he was short on work.I can't assume what the reasoning was except to increase profit at the expense of the customer. While in the presence of Mr Ahmad, a call came in from a disgruntled customer and Mr Ahmad told his partner that their other employee had put too small of an HVAC system in a residential house that day. Wow, how many mistakes do these guys make? And I just looked up this company on the Better Business Bureau and it says they are investigating a claim and cannot post anything about DIM Construciton until their claim investigation is complete. So, it seems I'm not the only one having issues with this company.
