They weren't very busy, and I was a little early for my appointment but they were able to take me right away. The shellac manicure was $25. They didn't do a hand and arm massage but for $25 I didn't really care. Kevin was my manicurist and I think he gave me the best shellac manicure I've ever had (and probably the most inexpensive as well). Everyone seemed really nice and the woman taking appointments on the phone talked to the caller as if she was friends with them. I think they must have a lot of regulars. The polish is streaky and uneven, with visible brush marks, rough edges, and inconsistent application around the cuticles and sides of the toenails. The overall finish looks rushed and unprofessional. I made the owner aware of my concerns. He offered a 15% discount due to the poor shaping and also offered to have someone from another salon come over to reshape my nails. However, I was told there would be an additional wait. I arrived at 4:15 p.m. and did not leave until 7:15 p.m. After already spending three hours there, I was exhausted and simply wanted to go home. At that point, I decided I would have to reshape them myself. I appreciate that a partial discount and another technician were offered, but neither option adequately resolved the overall quality issues with both services. The results are clearly shown in the photos and do not reflect the standard I expected from a professional salon. I paid for a manicure and pedicure but left needing to correct the work myself. It's also difficult to read someone say they are black and was treated differently, because it's a very serious accusation. So I personally want to focus on just those two reviews. Let me start off by saying all my comments are my comments and the truth as I know it. I've been going to Nails by Kim for over 5 years and was looking at the negative reviews. I just couldn't believe seeing the negative reviews. Then I noticed that one said a guy named Ben worked there and the salon was under new management...loll...that is the other salon in the same shopping center that's right across the way. There's no one named Ben who has ever worked at Nails by Kim that has ever been there in my past five years of service received there and Nails by Kim has never been under new management since I've been going there. I'm really not understanding why the young lady would say if you're black don't go there, because she was told they weren't going to be able to do her nails that day due to pre scheduled appointments by other consumers. That's normal business practice and sometimes that happens. Even I've come in there on several occasions without scheduling an appointment and was told their slots were full by people who have appointments and I need to come back another day or schedule an appointment. I promise you, it is Not discrimination. It Is a normal business practice. It's a small salon. Long time customers like myself, keep coming back; we know how kind and professional the ladies are. We set appointments to get our nails done. So it may appear that no one is waiting, but I can comment for sure that those time slots are filled if they say it's filled. My personal experience is that my nails last a long time until the next time I need to redo it. I'm impressed that I can show a picture of how I want my nails to look and they are able to do it.
