Came in with a group of 5, at about 10:30 for the Bills party and beyond. Continued our stay for the afternoon games, ordered more drinks and appetizers and a couple meals throughout. We saw some guests with shaved ice but didn't see it on the menu, so a couple people in our group decided to go get shaved ice and come back and continue eating and drinking. The security worker stopped us and told us no outside food or beverage. I tried to explain to him that we've been there for a few hours already and asked if we could just sit with the rest of our party and he said if we throw away our full shaved ice. I understand an outside food and beverage policy, but I expect some leniency in the customer service industry, or at the very least a little courtesy from the security guy. We ate our shaved ice from the curb, walk backed in, closed our check and left to finish the game and catch the night games elsewhere. This was at about 3:45 pm but I didn't get the guards name. (The hostess at this time was very nice and very apologetic, nothing about this was her fault) read more

Park 101 made for a perfect destination on a Friday night for a bunch of Phoenix families to meet up before kicking off our soccer tournament the next day... We were able to get a reserved area on their kid and pet friendly patio, which worked out well. Park 101 is conveniently located in Carlsbad Village, and it makes for a fun scene, although it's a bit hectic with food and drink ordering happening in different places and a lot going on all around. Also, I believe they are in the process of getting a liquor license, so the cocktails on the menu are currently made with wine based liquor, which I was not a huge fan of. In other words, I'd recommend sticking to beer or wine until they offer a full bar! Park 101's food was fine... Our group tasted a variety of tacos, lobster rolls, ribs and more, and the kids mostly had chicken nuggets and fries. This does make for a great place to meet up with a group of people and it's a fun scene, but don't go in with super high expectations otherwise. I'd definitely return with the same expectations in the future - perhaps once they get their liquor license and we get through this pandemic, it will be even better! read more

PRK is my friend group's go-to place in Carlsbad. Wednesday night bingo with Chaddy-P is a legendary experience and the staff are the coolest people around. The smash burger and nachos are always ordered for the table. Very tasty. read more

We came to this bar to watch the World Series. Happy hour drinks were really good. After happy hour I ordered another drink and it was sooo weak. I drank nothing but orange juice. I told the bartender about my drink and he gave me an attitude telling me it's the same drink I ordered before. I then ordered a beer and wanted to pay cash. The bartender told me he did not have change. What bar does not have change?. That bartender needs to be more friendly and stop his poor attitude!! read more

Drinks are kinda expensive and it's very loud. You were able to bring your children and dogs however it does get super crowded on game days. It's close to the shore so it makes a popular location to watch the game and chill at picnic tables and benches. I've never been to the upstairs portion so can't speak on that. Bartenders are friendly however I do wish they had more bartenders to move line a little faster. read more

I took the opportunity to go and hangout at Park 101. This place is very chilled and laid back from when they open until the early evening hours. Unless there is an afternoon Padres baseball game going on. But that doesn't happen too much unless you follow the schedule. But other than the Padres Baseballs games they would have other baseball games showing, or other sport games on. They have an upstairs area that they open up when the place gets really busy in the evenings. They have activities and deals but you have to go to their website to see if there is anything that peaks your interests. At the time I went I had to place my order with the bartender which I did not mind. I ordered the Surf n Turf Fries and they were delicious. If you are not a big fan of crowds then I suggest going when they open up to about 4pm. They are pet friendly but must be kept on their leashes at all times. If you don't like what they have on their menu they also have a stand connected to them called The Trap Shack. The food at the stand is lobster based food (Lobster Mac n Cheese, Lobster Tacos, etc....) read more

We have been watching this place change owners and styles over the years. We opted to try it on aSunday afternoon. It was not too busy but there was a steady flow of patrons after we were seated. We were seated by a hostess who stated they were changing their "dining format", however she never really explained the difference between bar and restaurant service. There is no obvious line of demarcation. Between bar and restaurant since most of the building is outside. After waiting for over 15 minutes and still not greeted by waitstaff, we ordered ourselves at the bar. We got a number and waited. We ordered a breakfast sandwhich and a breakfast burrito. After 45 minutes the food arrived. My burrito came without any of the salsas and side items as referenced in the menu. After getting items from a manager ( who was quite polite), I was able to eat. The tri-tip burrito was excellent but ai did not really think waiting 45 minutes was acceptable. . I would try it again, but they really need to be more communicative on what the seating and dining options are. read more

This is an overdue review for Park101. I am shocked that it isn't 4 stars+, TBH. Park 101 has been a must visit the last couple times we have been in Carlsbad. Most recently our visit was for an event we hosted for our wedding party and close friends. My husband was able to work with Mercedes and together they were able to reserve the upstairs area (which has its own bar) and choose how we wanted to spend the minimums for food and drink. We were able to provide our guests with drink tickets so that they could choose what they wanted to order. Also the food was ready (buffet style) minutes after we were allowed in our area. Another nice touch was that we had a "bouncer" at the stairs to ensure no one was up with our group that wasn't supposed to be. That is so well thought out especially since we were paying for the area for a limited time! Loved how intimate it was. I'd say the process was easy and prices were fair for the type of event we planned. Would definitely recommend to anyone trying to do something similar! It's a very down to earth open air restaurant?/bar? I can't explain it, but very beach city like which we loved. We've taken our parents here during lunch time and have come here for dinner as well. It shares tables with the lobster place nearby so it can get crowded. I don't have any complaints, and I will definitely come back :) read more

We had two servers during our time there on a Friday afternoon and both were amazing! Kind, fun, attentive and quick! However, we were there during March Madness - happy hour. They had a large screen with 4 tvs/games on... two mens games were on, one NON LOCAL MLB GAME, a UCONN mens coach interview on which we could NOT hear (and no closed captions on) so we requested a WOMEN'S basketball game to be put on one of those screens but the manager refused! Manager said they are only focusing on March Madness... meanwhile nonlocal MLB was playing! Manager offered to put game on inside on a smaller tv. We only ordered fries and they were below average, extremely salty. Drinks were good. Considering how nice the location is and how much attraction the manager was trying to get the "March madness" the ambiance wasn't great! Honestly, they should have tried playing some of the women's games! They might have had a better crowd! read more

Typically enjoy this spot. Great ambiance for game and great food. Always have had great service while dining in restaurant. Unfortunately can't say the same for takeout. No bueno. The service was 4/10. The food was 2/10. The atmosphere could've been better if we sat outside but inside it was loud as hell we couldn't hear our own party. The food was pretty bad. I got the pork and it was very dry. The wings were average. The baked potato was also dry. The tacos were okay, spicy at least. And the fries were NOT seasoned as it says on the menu. Most of the food was barely warm. Not coming back ever. Sad bc it's such a cute spot! read more

Nice place to chill and have a drink/cocktail. I guess they offer food, like BBQ, at the bar, but my group of friends and I ordered food from Wicked Maine Lobster and grabbed a table on their deck. Place is very fun and casual. And got pretty packed as the day went by. I had their Watermelon Mimosa from the bar, which is like a slushie, and let me tell you...that drink is danderous! I never leave bad reviews, but when I do, it is completely justified. We came here on superbowl day, and the hostess "Amaya", is the sole reason for this review. Not only is she rude and classless, she is undoubtedly racist. We were stopped in line to have our IDs checked, and one of our friends who is OLDER THAN ALL OF US, was stopped and questioned because she had the new real ID/DL. It did look different, but she decided to call 40 people over because she said "i think it's fake". First of all, your managers don't train you when new ID's are released and what to look for? The place we went to down the street confirmed for us that EVERY restaurant must be trained on recognizing new IDs to avoid these issues. She made us wait in line, we missed the show which was the reason we really came to the place. She called over a CUSTOMER to come check out the ID...not her manager...a CUSTOMER. She kept letting random men in (whom were all white) even though they were NOT in line, they kept saying "oh, we were with so and so", and she wouldn't question it and just let them in. Last time I worked at a bar, that was all BS, and we knew it. Of course, having 4 WOC at the front waiting to get in was not allowed because of a "fake ID", and instead, every white man was let in. A waitress came to get us to take us upstairs but did say "You wont be able to see any of the show". We decided to stay in line for the show and go up after. COME TO FIND OUT -- there were 5 TVs upstairs!!! What is it with this place and their lies? Anything to take away the experience from POC. This year's halftime show really got on their nerves, huh? She called over the security guard to check our ID, and he said "You can't be doing this sh*t". Probably because he knew how idiotic she seemed and lacked brain cells for not knowing what the new IDs looked like (my friend also had the DMV app pulled out to show her), and the fact that she was holding us up for SO LONG. We could have gotten in so much earlier, had a better spot, but we were purposely held in line for a "fake", while instead of calling over the MOD, she decides to dance around, talk to any guy she let in, anyone who came downstairs, roll her eyes at us, ignore us in general. People in LINE were telling us how f'ed up it was and clearly rascially motivated it was because of how Amaya and the others were treating everyone else who didn't look like us...We were poise, just decided to enjoy the music when it was on. Btw, once we went upstairs and saw the TVs, were were perplexed. No one approached us for 20 minutes to get our order. Not only were we disres , we were discrimminated against and presented with trashy, inappropriate and classless behavior. If we were the only ones that noticed it, sure, maybe say we 'read it wrong'. But if it was MULTIPLE people telling us "no, we see how she's treating you" INCLUDING OTHER SERVERS AT NEIGHBORING RESTAURANTS-- you know there's a deep moral issue. DO BETTER CARLSBAD!!!! read more

Came across Park 101 on Yelp and figured we'd give it a try. This place is located in Carlsbad and a few feet away from the beach. For safety purposes, there's a to-go option, call for order, prepay, then park at designated curbside pickup. Park 101 welcomes community dining, lounging and sipping in style, in the heart of the village. The menu comes with a family pack or individual items order, ranging from roasted barbecue chicken, family wing platter, 101 green fresh veggies, Brussels sprouts to a sip of strawberry margarita, or watermelon mimosa. This place is kid and dog friendly. We ordered the lobster sandwich that came with fries, ranch and marinara sauces for around $22 ea., tax included. We also ordered pork ribs with macaroni and cheese for approximately $9.50 ea., tax included. I probably will not recommend the lobster but will certainly advocate for the BBQ ribs, which by the way you also get a lot more for the buck. read more

Came by for some ribs and BBQ, and it definitely didn't disappoint. The ribs were spot on -- smoky, tender, side of bbq sauce and pickled freebies was nice. Tri tip was a good choice too, pinkish in color, with a different seasoning than the ribs. Everything had that real, slow-cooked flavor without feeling overly heavy. Big fan of the beer list too -- a nice range to pick from, whether you're into IPAs or just want something easy to sip while watching the game. Speaking of which, catching the playoff on the BIG TVs outside made the whole vibe even better. Service was relaxed and matched the energy of the place -- around when you needed them, but not hovering. Good food, good beer, good game... pretty much all you can ask for. read more

How long ago did I eat here? My wife and I are suckers for a school fundraiser. They're what make us try new local places we normally wouldn't go to (Original Mr. Taco next to the much better Tacos Alex), places we wouldn't normally want to go (Applebee's ... I'm so happy you're gone), and out to other counties to help rival schools in other cities. Enter Park 101. Normally, this is the kind of place I'd be excited to try. With a novel concept, a great location, impressive menu, and a pretty gorgeous aesthetic, it's kind of right up my alley. And yet, I dragged my feet for more than a year before finally succumbing to a fundraiser for my teacher-mother's school here. The place was packed, tons of kids enjoying the play area and all their parents drinking and laughing at the tabled seating. Ordering suffered because of it, the chaos of the long lines was loud and slow, starting off our experience in here in a negative light. We made or choices, grabbed a number, and scouted out a place to sit. I had the Tri-Tip Tacos. The meat itself was fairly unimpressive; tender enough, but the tang and the heat from the chimichurri sauce not as tasty as the pickled onions or arugula that overshadowed it. They were small and not very filling, a large reminder that you're paying more for the experience of being at Park 101 as opposed to buying good food to eat. My wife had the Park 101 Burger, served only with white cheddar and lettuce. She wasn't too impressed by it, though I would argue that if it had been served with their sauce, avocado, and a fried egg, it could have been pretty magical. Still, their fries were pretty on point. Our son had Chicken Nuggets, which came out of a bag and were shaped like dinosaurs. More than anything, this was the was the most disappointing. If you're going to have a school fundraiser, you should do something a bit more creative to entice a child's palette. The 101 Mac N' Cheese is a good start, but seeing specialty sliders or flavored grilled cheeses on the menu would be a better step in the right direction. The nuggets as they were were dry and grossly processed, not Costco's best. Also on the table were BBQ Smoked Wings, which I thought were pretty good, but my son, who usually devours anything and everything chicken wing, left most of them on the plate. Not gonna lie, I've come to trust his judgement on such matters. In the end, we experienced expensive food, mildly unimpressive flavors, raucous crowds brought by the fundraiser, and an overall lackluster dinner. If we came back on a slower night, when the chefs can give a bit more care to individual dishes, I can see where a meal at Park 101 could be bit closer to, if not better than, average. Until then, I'm gonna say that this place a mildly disappointing 2 Stars. read more

Should have been two stars, but the hostess said they had a few callouts and were short handed. That being said, only saw the waitress twice. Once to clear the dirty table I had to sit at. And once more to deliver my plate of food. No checking in, drink refills, extra bbq sauce....nada. Had the pulled pork sandwich. Has the promise of great flavors, but seemed a little dry. No extra sauce was offered. Nice place to watch the sunset and the people walking by. I should have gotten a lobster roll from the restaurant that shares the building. read more

After trying Park 101 and later the Windmill Food Hall, I think we will be spending more of our time eating on State Street and points North in Oceanside and South in Encinitas. After visiting here twice there are a few reasons it's just A-OK. First, they always change where you order. Second, the services is really slow. Third, it's really small and hard to park at their location. I would also say the noise level here is at an all time high. Music was loud, adults drinking speaking high above it and then add kids playing with large games outside, it's like an outdoor dive bar with kids. This place can keep it's three for 1) It's pet friendly (the quietest of the group, but feel they should be aloud upstairs in adult only area) 2) The smoked meat (it's delicious) 3) It's near the beach (grab a quick bite). In the future, I think we would consider the food to go and take it to the picnic tables by the beach with our dog for that down time to chill that we deserve. Let the dogs upstairs Park 101! Note: They do provide a dessert coin for the kids, this is usually ice cream. And, coloring sheets to occupy time while waiting. I would love to see Park 101 prepped boxes to go for the beach. #Carlsbad #Park101 #PicnicBoxes #KidFriendly #PetFriendly read more

When we arrived, we were abruptly interrogated by a weird girl at the front with red hair who turned out to be the hostess. She did not greet us, rather she began pointing out all the places where we could not sit, then pointed to a bench with our backs facing the big screen television as the only available seating. When we explained to her that we would like to watch the Padres game and drove a very long way in order to dine in the restaurant and enjoy the game, she very rudely said that she would be turning off the Padres game for trivia night. When I asked her when the trivia night would begin, she refused to answer our question and just repeated twice more in a very annoying tone of voice that she would be turning off the Padres game for trivia. The blonde girl standing next to her didn't say a word, because I'm sure that she was also taken aback by the red headed girl's bad attitude and aggressive tone of voice. The blonde hostess was either a trainee or completely terrified, or both... We decided to move on to a different restaurant, despite the fact that we drove 30 miles just to watch the big game on the big screen. Then, when we were walking back to our car after dinner, we passed Park 101 again and saw the same red head hostess giving another customer a hard time and complaining about them to the blonde hostess trainee. We finally decided to try Park 101 on a Sunday a few months ago after hearing about the relaxed fun atmosphere. Just a heads up, the upstairs area is 21+ only. The downstairs restaurant area wasn't too packed, but there weren't too many seating options in the shade. It's almost completely all outside, which was nice when the weather was warm. We made it work. You order food and drinks at the bar and they bring it to the table. I was sad to see they were out of one of their signature cocktails. The food was delicious and flavorful.
