    Chicken and Waffle
    Mark O.

Me, my wife and son visited Primrose recently since we live in the neighbor. I haven't been here in years and I was excited to go. The service was on point. Our waiter was attentive and mindful of the fact that brunch was ending soon from the time we arrived. I order the crispy potatoes and the bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches while my wife ordered the chicken and waffles. I enjoyed my sandwich and half salad. The bacon was thick cut which I was a fan of. As for the chicken and waffles it was sub-par. The chicken was overcooked as well as the waffle. My ideal type of waffle is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This waffle was dense. The potato were fantastic. Look forward to trying more of their menu.

Primrose was pretty good but portions were small and prices were high. Dishes were simple and straightforward, which can be good but also lame. It seems like a good restaurant to have in Brookland (which doesn't have enough options) but I wouldn't make the trip to visit again. More like 3.5 stars. I had heard good things about it over the years but never visited until now. I stopped by Saturday night at 7 PM with a group of four. The place wasn't too busy, with maybe half the inside seats occupied and almost no one on the patios. We had a liter of the Glassmaker chilled red ($60) which was very good. Then shared the Parker House Rolls ($15, 6 pieces), Tomato ($15), Sashimi ($16, 3 pieces), Sunchokes ($15), Pork Belly ($19), Duck Breast ($22), and Hake ($35). For dessert, the Blueberry Icebox Pie ($14) and Chocolate Pot de Creme ($13). Split among four people, this was enough but a bit light. Our favorite dishes were the hake and the tomatoes. The tomatoes should really come with bread to soak up the nice sauce. The pork belly and duck were were simple, straightforward presentations; I would like to see something more interesting. The desserts were tasty but a bit lame -- both simple, both made in advance, both sharing a toasted meringue component. Service was good. Our server was friendly and helpful about the wine selection. All of the savory food came out very quickly and appropriately coursed. There were too minor missteps: they said the sashimi was 5 pieces (it was 3) and there was a very long wait for desserts (not explainable since they were both premade). The menu was mostly accurate to the website. Website had one extra savory dish and one extra dessert that were not there IRL. FYI The bill has a 5% service fee.

Gotta love a good brunch! We were welcomed in to a nice crowd, DJ, & a great playlist. I hope they keep that up because the vibe was nice. I gave 4 stars because they only had 1 waiter for the entire place so service was pretty slow.

In a bit of a remote location, and service was a bit on the slower side, but the food was pretty good. Not too many people for a Saturday night and we were able to make reservations day of which was good for us. The decor and vibe were really nice. Brussel sprouts a bit greasy but the trout and it's accompaniments were perfect. The shortbread dessert wasn't too sweet and was different than other desserts.

Yall! I was judging these small portion sizes and wasn't sure what to expect. Baaaaaby, it was a treat. I really enjoyed the options that we had! The half roasted chicken was a favorite. Their chickpea poppers were our appetizers (and, skeptical). Those little things were POPPING Indeed. lol. Had a slight "kick" to them and they are served HOT, but so yummy. As someone who is not a big fish person, I wasn't sure about the fish as I've never had tilefish before. It was the "Parsley Crusted Atlantic Tilefish" Drinks were okay, I enjoyed the gin inspired drink, but didn't enjoy the second one. I forgot what it was though. Service was friendly, approachable. It was such a cute spot. I loved being surrounded by the plants on the outdoor/patio area. I was skeptical at first, but I was made a believer. So good! Opened my mind and my heart. I'll be back.

Around the corner from our new home and it's going to be our go to spot! The bar menu goes all night vs having a happy hour, so has a lot of the same small and large plates + drinks that you'd get when sitting at the table (but cheaper- definitely the way to go!). Leah was our bartender and she was so great with wonderful service all around. The ambiance was so cute and well lit.

Decent food and the service was friendly and consistent! We had a group of 3 and came here for a late lunch. I loved their duck hash - wish there was more duck on the plate so that I could eat it proportionally with the amount of potatoes I had. The sweet potato crème brûlée was good but too dense for me, and therefore didn't satisfy me the way other crème brûlées do.

So convinent to be able to walk here! The seasonal menu is a hit 9/10. I loved the duck salad from this past winter. A standout this season is the gazpacho made with green tomato/cucumbers and the chickpea bites. The service for drinks is a little slow but the ambiance is great!

The decor was right up my alley: gorgeous details, stunning florals, absolutely beautiful. We both went with the Plat Américain, a classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, crispy fingerlings, and a croissant. A simple but solid choice! The croissant especially was so soft and fluffy, thoroughly enjoyed that. I ordered an iced latte and asked for it to be sweetened, but it came out pretty punchy... I don't think the sweetener made it in! If you're into a strong, bold latte you'll love it, but if you like yours on the sweeter side, just make sure to double check with your server. The manager also stopped by our table mid-meal which was a nice touch, super friendly and personable. It was a pleasure!

Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu.

They don't do any sort of special treatment/desserts, etc. for birthdays which is absolutely fine for me but worth noting for those who may want a more celebratory(?) celebration. I think they might have some kinks to work out between how they advertise reservations for special events (like the Gypsy Jazz brunch). They also seated us at a table for 8 at first even though the reservation was for 10 people that was also not in the area where the live music was although that was what the reservation advertised. When everyone arrived we then had to move tables to make space possibly where we were supposed to be the whole time? From a customer's perspective it just seemed a bit disorganized and confusing.
