My husband and I met a friend for coffee at Primitive Coffee Company on a Saturday afternoon a few weekends ago when we were visiting Nashville. We'd tried to meet him at another coffeeshop we used to frequent, but there wasn't a table. I looked up coffeeshops in the neighborhood and asked him to meet us at Primitive instead. I'm glad we did. We used to live in this area, but my favorite Woodbine/Nolensville Road coffeeshop in the area closed years ago. Primitive (which I'm guessing opened in 2024 since that's the year of its earliest Yelp review) fills a coffeeshop gap in the neighborhood. With plenty of seating, friendly service, simple but comfortable decor, and good coffee, it's the kind of coffeeshop that's great for catching up with an old friend, reading a book, studying, working...anything, really! I'd happily return.

Latte with honey cinnamon and the seasonal latte week of feb 6

Cute and cozy coffee shop we found through a yelp search, hours were good so we stopped in mid afternoon. I got an almond milk latte with honey and cinnamon (delicious) and husband got this crazy seasonal latte (week of feb 6) with like pine and something else. It was weirdly good, wish I could find the menu for what it was. Sat on a smushy comfy couch and hung out for a bit. If I lived in Nashville I would want to be a regular here.

Primitive has such fun decor and friendly employees. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his espresso tonic, which we had read was the best espresso tonic in town. Their pumpkin waltz seasonal latte was yummy, too. Their breakfast tots were a good snack, but a little salty. I definitely recommend stopping by!

Occupying space in the Able Restaurant Equipment building on Nolensville Pike, Primitive Coffee is a welcome addition to the area! This brick and mortar was an exciting expansion for Primitive who have been around the city in variations for a few years. Cool to have followed them to this spot! The space is good sized with a few different spaces to hangout in. There is the more formal space with tables and chairs, a small bar at the end of the counter and then a separate room that is a bit more cozy. The whole vibe is vintage-campy from the exposed brick, old school stereo including the old school wooden/glass cabinet, antique-esk furniture to retro art. This vibe follows through to the drinks where they are served in time-era glassware or red campfire mugs. The menu is compact, but variable and features your classics to the boozy! For the booze, they offer a small selection of local brews. Coffee drinks range from your standard coffees to matcha drinks to lattes, etc. Food wise, they have a few pastries and breakfast sandwiches plus a few house items such as breakfast tots! Service was solid. The owner is really chill and friendly, as was the barista who took my order and prepared both my coffee and tots. I went with the cold brew and breakfast tots. The cold brew was okay. The tots were crispy and topped with eggs, bacon and beer cheese. Served in a small paper boat, they were tasty. Total for both out me around $12, which isn't bad at all. Parking is plentiful in the immediate area, but there is not a dedicated lot. There are shared lots behind the building and several street spots. Signage is limited outside, so just look for the Able sign and you are at the right spot. Overall, cool and chill spot for sure. Solid 4.5, so I'll toss in the .5 star because they are local and need to thrive!

Love this place! I'm not the typical coffee shop goer because I don't drink coffee, but this spot has other yummy options if you favor a beer or a matcha like me! I came for a game of bingo with a friend, and the vibes were amazing. All of the staff was super friendly, there was plenty of space to spread out, and it has a simple yet cute interior. The only downside is the parking situation is a bit stressful. I'd definitely come back for another event here as it was so inviting and to try more of their drinks.

Primitive coffee is a welcome addition to the south Nashville and Woodbine area. There aren't many options for coffee in that particular area so definitely want to support this place and see do well. The latte I got was very good and I enjoy the ambience here. It is very cozy and welcoming inside with a retro vibe. The service was friendly and I will definitely be back.

Americano was very watery Dirty chai latte was ok, had good chai flavor but nothing to write home about. The place is aesthetically pleasing, giving a open retro vibe. Service was friendly

What a cool spot! Easy parking, cool vibe, creative themed drinks and delicious coffee! Also loved the art by the register. Will go again soon!

Fellow Yelper tipped me off on this spot near my home and I am in love with their vibe! While it might be bit challenging to get in and out of off of Nolensville Pike - it's totally worth it! Plenty of space to work remote, it feels like a coffee shop meets antique store with a vibrant, offbeat, vintage Americana feel...Doing my best to describe a vibe that just fits South Nashville so well! I am stoked to have another quality coffee shop near me. The coffee - we got 2 iced lattes to try and split - Vanilla Rum & Rose Cardamom (seasonal) and they were phenomenal - well balanced taste! I like that they make their own syrups in house and use larger square ice cubes that give it a whole separate vibe than a standard coffee shop. Staff was friendly from the moment I arrived!

    Vanilla Latte for the win.

This is one of my favorite South Nash Coffee spots. The building is easy to miss, but one you stop in, you will return. The staff is friendly and makes a great cup of (enter your choice beverage, mine was a latte today). They have a limited food menu, but the food is surprisingly great. Relax on the sofa, pull at a computer at one of their many tables or sit at the bar and chat with baristas. They have games and books and a calm inviting atmosphere.

    Hot chocolate and coffee shop.

I have tried their regular sourdough loaf, which is really good, but my current favorite is their olive & herb sourdough. I usually overlook their pastry section, but the last time I visited, I tried the coffee crumble cake. It was incredibly soft, buttery, and rich. I devoured it in no time.

Having formerly sampled their baked goods and baguette, we approached with some expectation, for those had proved most agreeable. Upon our arrival, Darcy and I were informed that the supply of pastries was nearly exhausted: a circumstance I bore with easy composure, as we intended only for coffee. Yet thereafter, I regret to say, the experience fell somewhat short. My cappuccino was deficient in froth and served with less warmth than one might wish, rendering it rather uninspiring. The interior, though neat, is so spare and restrained in its decoration as to verge upon the austere, and lacks that ease and comfort which invite one to linger. It is not, I think, among the more hospitable establishments we have encountered in Nashville. Though I would not hesitate to return for their baked offerings, I cannot suppose it would become a favored place for repose or refreshment.

I was not super impressed with their drip coffee on my first try there, and the blueberry muffin was good, but extremely sugary and too sweet. On my second visit I opted instead for the fruit toast and some green tea and had a much better experience. The toast was fantastic and the green tea excellent with attention to service (see photo). They have several interesting and original breakfast items on the menu and I would recommend trying these instead of the baked pastries. Overall a very nice spot if you are in the neighborhood.

It feels historic in the best way, like it's lived a few lives (old house shoe repair shop now a coffee spot that somehow makes you want to slow down and stay awhile). We didn't try any food this time, but based on the long line of people happily waiting for it, I'm taking that as a strong sign. The coffee, though? Legit. You can tell the beans are fresh, smooth, clean, and more "grown-up, sophisticated coffee flavor" than sugary coffee dessert. We ordered an iced caramel latte and an espresso martini (hold the cream) and both were excellent. The latte was balanced and smooth, and the espresso actually came through (not hidden under caramel). The espresso martini was the surprise star: they add an orange liqueur that gives it a little citrus lift, which makes it taste brighter and more interesting than the standard version. Naturally, we left with a bag of their espresso beans because now we're convinced we can recreate that martini at home. Will it be as good as Frothy Monkey's? Probably not. But we're going to try... you know, for science. If you like places with personality, history, and coffee that tastes like someone actually cares, this one's top of the list.
