First time trying Prime Pizza in Altadena and giving this place 4 stars because the pizzas are just too darn thin. Yes, I understand what NY Style pizza is but pizzas need a few grams more dough. Went here twice. To be fair, I lived in NYC for many years and my taste for pizza runs to the realm of the snobbish, but in all honesty, the pizza here was not that great. What made is worse was the inconsistent level of service. Some of their workers clearly have not had proper training to say "hello" or "thank you" to customers. The times I went, there were two young women at the register area who spent a bit of time chatting between themselves and then barely took the time to get my order. Beyond that, if the pizza quality was better, I might have been able to forgive the subpar service, but it wasn't the best package overall. Heard a friend of mine talking about this pizza place, I decided to give it a try... Their pizzas are stoned baked and thin crust. I ordered the chicken tikka. The pizza was delicious, But based on the size and number of pieces of chicken on the pizza, I had to say the chicken was only for decorating, despite that it should be the main ingredient. So life is full of monumental moments and with them come monumental changes in life. People don't realize it but adopting a new local pizza joint into your regular rotation is one of them. When Prime opened up their Altadena branch in September we were one of the first ones there and picked up an assortment of food to try. It was good but it didn't move our meters quite yet. But their fabulous location and super inviting patio kept beckoning us so we returned. Still good but it didn't make us quite crave it. Then one day I noticed the Sausage & Kale pizza on the menu and added it to my internal "Try This" list and a few days later I picked it up. This one punched us in the face from the first bite and has made itself at home. We get this pie on a regular basis now and only took a small break from it when Prime did a collab with Jitlada a few weeks ago, and I gotta say that Curry Panang pie needs to be on the permanent menu! Anyway, pro tip for those ordering the Sausage & Kale: get it "well done" and half sliced. It makes the crust crispier, the kale more caramelized, and the extra cutting makes the slices easier to handle. Oh and get there early or late because parking is very limited. There's parking on the street but it's hilly and dark at night so don't wear the high heels. read more

I've been gluten-free for well over 10 years. This is by far the best gluten-free pizza I have ever had,like bring a tear to my eye delicious. I ordered through Postmates and it got here 30 minutes earlier than expected, everything piping hot. I got a gluten-free grandmas and added pepperoni and black olives My kids tried the regular spicy pepperoni rectangle pie, a chicken Parm sub and Caesar salad. They said the spicy was quite spicy, but delicious, and the Caesar salad was excellent The ranch was quite good. You can tell it's homemade. I'm not sure I will order pizza from anywhere else at this point moving forward! I have literally texted everyone in the area asking if they have tried it and suggesting they do so the next time they order pizza. read more

Excellent pizza despite the crazy opening weekend wait (so worth it). The Abriatta was delicious and loved that the spice was the end. Dough had a great chew factor to it as well. Owner operator has opened up a gem in his own backyard and it shows. He's been hard at work to make this location extra special and it is... this will forever change Altadena in a very positive way. I was a bit disappointed to get a Sicilian slice smaller than my palm that was $7. Otherwise, nice staff and pretty quick service! I don't know if the pizzas exactly New York style, but it is totally delicious! We love the Sicilian and the White pizza. The White is incredibly garlicky and just wonderful. The crust on the Sicilian isn't doughy, it's actually light and with a wonderful crunch. The mix of flavors on their pizza is truly unique and definitely makes you want to come back for more. Parking is a pain, if lucky you might find a spot or double park and block others as I saw customers do so. Nice looking patio with a big tv to watch sports but when you go inside it's a cramped space where others are ordering. Service was ok, nothing but average. Now to the pizza. We ordered 4 slices of different pizza's and they did not taste fresh. How long do they keep them under the warmer before they decide to throw out. Thin crust but chewy. I do not understand the hype of why people go there. It's not worth the price for what it tastes like. I think people go because it's a close pizza place for locals in the area.
