Walked in and was served by RobYn who was super nice & sweet and guided me through the massive sandwich menu to help me select the PB Reuben (for the second visit in a row, I normally ALWAYS order the Big Fish) but RobYn assured me the Reuben would be fantastic... So, I settled on the PB Reuben and an order of Onion Rings and both were AWESOME.... The Reuben had like a half pound of Corned Beef and Pastrami with fries & slaw and I added tomato then the rings were super crispy and the dipping sauce was great... I was in town from LA for the Kings/Pens game. Primanti's is one of those locally world famous place I felt obligated to try. My fellow Kings fans pal and I split a Pittsburgher and a pastrami sandwich. We got it the way it comes with fries and coleslaw on top. I normally do not eat slaw, but I wanted to taste the magic. The burger was mediocre and the pastrami was not bad. We had pickles and onion rings as sides. The onion rings were really good. There were also fries that fell off the sandwiches. What was outstanding was a second happy hour from 9 to 11 pm. Drinks are half price. We flew in late and got to Primanti's just as the happy hour began. Since we were on west coast time, it still felt early. I am glad I went here. I don't know if I would go back for the food, but I would definitely stop in for that happy hour. read more

The famous sandwich with thick, flavorless white bread was not worth my time at all. Even the toppings and meat inside the sandwich tasted plain. But honestly, the batches mask the flavor of everything else. I really can't get over how bad the bread was. The french fries and the sandwich were decent on their own but also nothing special. Always my favorite place in the Burgh!! Home for the holidays with the family we made this a mandatory stop for lunch. It's been years since I was on the Southside (20+ years!) and I still remember fondly going to Mario's, and Nick's Fat City. A few newer places but eh same great feel. Lunch was outstanding as expected. Our server was very friendly and explained the history of Primanti's to my girls who had never been there. She was very welcoming and helped with our sandwich selections. I had the pastrami with cheese, my oldest daughter had Turkey with cheese, my son got corn beef and cheese my youngest daughter got ham and cheese and my wife got the cappicola & cheese. All were full and happy when we were finished. This staple of the culture will remain at the top of my list when in the Burgh. Thanks! read more

Long story short: this food was... just not good. I got the Pittsburger and my boyfriend got the Capicola. Bread was dry, burger was dry, there is NO sauce on it, and the flavor is mostly the vinegar cole slaw. It's cool that there's fries in the sandwich but the whole thing tasted like sawdust. I would not recommend it and would never go back. We just kept hearing how we "had to have it." And I have no idea what the hype is. As out-of-towners familiar with the Pittsburgh area, I was determined to bring my international students to a Primanti Bros. while we were on a school trip. I decided on this location because it was close to where we were staying, and I had determined that it wasn't going to be overly crowded even on that particular Saturday night around 5pm. I can say that this is definitely not my favorite location, but with no wait and a consistent product I was happy with our latest visit. I decided not to sit in the bar area, but we went in back to the part that is more like a diner. As mentioned earlier, we had no wait, and we were able to monopolize the large booth, which was great for a group of seven. Our server was pleasant and helpful. She didn't mind that my students ALL opted for no coleslaw - ANATHEMA! And she was attentive but not overly so. This place is clearly a local's locale, and it definitely less frills than other locations. But the food was still great. I fully enjoyed my COMPELTE corned beef sandwich with an egg for extra measure. The kids did enjoy their choices as well, and ate every last crumb. My only complaint really, is that we were sitting fairly close to the restrooms, and while they were clean, there was an odor of sewer that I occassionally got a waft of. But to be honest, I am a hyper-sensitive smeller and no one else seemed to noticed and/or care. read more

Primanti Brothers is an institution in Pittsburgh. When I first moved to the city, I asked for food recommendations and everyone told me to come here. It took me years to actually do it (cultural shock is real), but I'm glad I finally did it. While you can find good roast beef or pastrami sandwiches in other east coast cities, none would make it quite the same as here -- with fries wedged inside as a topping on the sandwich. They throw fries in everything from sandwiches to salads in Pittsburgh, and apparently we have Primanti Brothers to thank for it. I suppose, if you're too lazy to have fries on the side, that it only makes sense to dump them into the sandwich to speed up the process. That said, the sandwich is some serious business. I usually share one with the mister, and it's still pretty filling. The pastrami and the cole slaw are delightful, although I must say, I'm not a fan of the soggy fries, but I tolerate it and accept that it's part of the deal. Now that I have moved away from the city, I miss this from time to time, and reminisce about the fries. Maybe I do like them inside the sandwich after all. Note: this outpost is quite small, and while I've dined in there before, a takeout order is probably best. read more

The staff at this location are very friendly and fun I have to say. They explained the menu and were. Ore than wiling to offer suggestions. The pastrami in my sandwich was excellent although at first it looked like there was barely any in there. The sandwich itself wasn't bad just needed a big mouth to eat it and there was ALOT of filler. I would have liked more pastrami and cheese (I feel like there was almost no cheese in it) but that's just me. There is a nice local ambiance to this location and it was pretty quiet. Maybe next time I'll have to try something else but I have to say I was thinking about getting a side of fries but I definitely didn't need one with this sandwich. read more

The food was delicious. My husband had the New Yorker. I had the steak salad and we shared wings. Everything was prepared well and tasty. The service was extremely slow. We ordered drinks which were promptly brought to us. Then we ordered the food which took an hour. No one checked on us to see if we needed refills or to apologize for the wait. We stopped at the popular Pittsburgh establishment on our road trip to Buffalo from Tampa. As we entered the colder climate, returning from a 9 day excursion in the heat- our bodies, still dressed in summer attire, began to crave warm and heartier fare. Stopping at the Southside iconic location for just that, was everything we hoped for it to be. Like any mid day rust-belt city bar, we walked into a half full bar of blue collar patrons grabbing a quick bite and brew for their lunch. The bartender, who doubled as our server was friendly, accommodating and entertained our questions about the menu, restaurant and her city. The food was hearty, not greasy and flavorful. I'll Definitely come back on my next visit. Would love to see the place lively at night, during one of their music shows or NFL game nights. A Pittsburgh must! All of their sandwiches are delicious, I've had many over the years. On this particular trip, I got Ham, Cheese, Egg. My wife got the original, this was her first. Everything came out hot and fresh. The thing that makes the sandwich for me is the slaw. It's a vinegar-based slaw, not mayo so it cuts through all the fatty rich flavors rather than adding to it. Not to mention the fact that I hate mayo. The staff was friendly and hard at work, the beer selection was varied and quite affordable. You could do a lot worse than coming to this location. This place is beyond bad, first we got dripped on by condensation from the ceiling, we then noticed the hand written sign stating " the ceiling is dripping" so we moved to the other side of the bar, ordered a couple of happy hour beers, they were good. We ordered wings and a Capicola Sandwich, the wings were terrible, over cooked and dry, they had sauce dumped on the top of them and that was it, so lazy just toss the wings. Capicola sandwich was cold and dry, I am aware that they add cold coleslaw to the sandwich but the sandwich was cold throughout. I went to the bathroom and almost tripped over a disgusting old broom that was laying on the floor. The bathroom was covered in graffiti and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The bartender was nice but was constantly complaining about the next bartender who was her relief misreading her schedule and was running late. I understand that this location is on Pittsburgh's South Side and it is more of a night time party spot but come on Primanti Bros you can do better. At this moment the bartender is having a meltdown and slamming stuff as she has just been told that her relief called and is still running late. Never again. read more

Primanti bros sandwiches are, if nothing else, a Pittsburgh thing that I can get behind. If nothing else, this divey spot on Carson street will provide you cheap beer and a full belly so that you can enjoy the rest of your night. Service is a little suspect, but the friendly faces, cheap food and beer and decent sports bar atmosphere are worth the trip. Pros: The Sandwiches are enjoyable. I don't think it's an everyday item, but ultimately, what is the real difference between this and your corner deli which gives you the same sandwich and sides of slaw and fries on the side ("nothing" is the answer). I had the Pastrami and cole slaw which was warm and filling. We also had sides of cheese fries and fried pickles which were enjoyable standard bar fare. Nothing special, but a welcome meal. All the pictures do a more than admirable job of describing the sandwich - they're quite good! The beers selection was unspecial, but the 23 oz pours at a small price (I don't recall, but it must have been under 5 dollars) make it worth it to watch a ball game. Specifically, the IC lights were flowing! Cons: It's certainly a divey sports bar with slightly sticky tables and questionable AC (or a very hot weekend). There were regular tables in a lofted secondary area, but there were basically no TV views from there (weird), but we easily grabbed a high top before the bar was mobbed by some sort of sausage-fest of dude-bro-guys. That leads to... Service was stilted and perhaps the plan of training an additional bartender/server on a Friday night was a bad idea. The poor FOH manager/head-bartender/server was juggling several tables and half the bar while training a new server. We felt bad and she was very apologetic, so I blame management more than her, but we frequently had empty cups. However, the food came quickly! Conclusion: It's not trying to be more that is and even with slower service, the decent (and filling!) food and cheap beer make up for it. Horrible service, even worse food. Placed a pick up order for dinner. My crew ordered 3 sandwiches and a salad. Two of us ordered the Turkey and cheese with slaw and fries on the side. The fries were soggy and the slaw was dry. The bread seemed old and looked like someone rolled the sliced bread before assembling the sandwich. The sandwiches are dry and you need to request condiments. The salad had fries on it. The menu didn't say it had fries on the chef salad or I wouldn't have ordered a salad. Used to love this place and had a terrible experience. Waited for our food for an hour and no one brought anything out--we even prepaid for it while waiting at the restaurant. So after an hour we asked for our money back because at that point we wanted to leave. Someone from the back comes out and said she personally made the food an hour ago--and no server ever brought it out. The person from the back was very apologetic and that's much appreciated and did offer to remake us our food but at that point we just wanted to leave.
