I used to go to this restaurant when it was Bobby Ds and udber different ownership. The menu is largely the same, but with some additions like pizza and pepperoni rolls, steak entrée, greens and beans, and a fish sandwich/entrée. They have also added a small cocktail menu, which is great for those of us who aren't big beer drinkers. I was excited to get the Bee's Knees, a great gin cocktail. What I received was the Beez Kneez (apparently?) ... gin on ice with a lemon slice and a dollop of Sriracha Honey on the lemon that I guess I'm supposed BYO cocktail shaker to? Huge let down, and I became a sticky mess after trying to mix it all up. The daytime bartender saw me struggling with it and didn't offer to help or apologize as I barely drank it. After shift change, service got much better (one of the regular bartenders that stayed on through ownership change). I got one of my favorites from the old menu - Stuffed Banana Pepper Hoagie - and it was spicy and delicious. The server offered to bring extra sauce, which really made the whole sandwich pop. The star kd the show was the greens and beans that you can get as a side (or appetizer). It comes with sausage and is made with kale as the greens. Great place with awesome staff with wonderful customer service! Went there while we on our way to the Roxane for a show. Prompt service upon arrival, put drinks hot mixed up but they corrected promptly without additional charge. Food was delicious. Tho just burgers, but they were so good! I should have taken photos but I was too busy anticipating the music show we were on our way to. Will definitely re-visit! read more

Visiting JD's Joint for the first time was disappointing. We had remembered that fountain pop tasted off - not right and were hoping it was fixed with the new ownership, but it was just as bad. The Pepsi out of the gun did not taste right. Maybe the guns need cleaned or soda isn't brixed properly. There isn't even an alternative option for a patron such as a can or bottle of pop. Not everyone drinks alcoholic beverages with their meal. We ordered hot traditional wings. I did not ask for them to be well done or any kind of special way. They arrived overdone/dry, maybe were in the freezer too long or reheated too many times. The sauce was bland and not even hot. They were flavorless, like watered down. Onto my meal since I still had high hopes. I ordered the franco burger. The bun was stale and hard to chew. The burger came with bacon, jalapenos and cheese. It didn't have much flavor. This was a first since I love burgers! It tasted like the meat was old. I don't understand how this even possible, but it was flavor-less. There wasn't even any hope with the fries since they were soggy. Perhaps, it's just growing pains. We will visit again in a few months.. ..maybe. read more

Well it's official! Bobby D's is no more and JD's joint has taken over the building. They even have their own sign outside. My girlfriend and I decided to stop here since we were fans of the French Onion soup. When we arrived we saw there was a funeral wake going on in the main dining room so we went and ate in the bar area. Our waitress told us that since the death was inhouse there would be no specials today. The two of us each ordered the French Onion soup and a Reuben sandwich to go with it. When we ordered the Reuben we were told we could have a choice of chips, fries, or cole slaw. We opted for the cole slaw. We got the soup which had plenty of onions in it but seemed too watered down for our tastes. Even the crackers that were individually wrapped weren't fresh but we made the best of them. The Reuben that was served to us was a decent size and was otherwise good. We both really enjoyed the cole slaw however-that made the meal. When we got our check I noticed that our sandwiches had been each upcharged by $2.00. Questioning the waitress she told us the cole slaw was extra but would adjust the check for us this visit. We decided from now on we would stick to whatever the menu says as far as eligible sides so we don't get caught in this loophole again. I also noticed that the serve pizza on the menu as a daily offering. Might want to be something we want to try on a future visit. JD's joint has the same bar set up as its predecessor with plenty of offerings. They are located in the Kenmawr shopping plaza in McKees Rocks with plenty of parking available. read more

My husband liked his fish, and his beer was good. I got the bbq chicken salad and it was not good at all. The dressing wasn't good, the bbq sauce on the chicken was gross, the "crispy fried onions" were cold and mushy, the chicken itself was definitely a frozen slice that was probably in the freezer just a tad too long making it rubbery. A friend called and arrange for us to have lunch at JD's Joint. Use to be Bobby D's, and the new owners worked at Bobby D's. Actually read a tip for Arlene that this was now JD's after we made arrangements to met there. There is a small sign out front on the wall for JD's Joint but the main sign has not been changed yet. There are two rooms, a dining area and a bar area. Was told the menu is the same but a few changes coming. Also, most of the staff is the same as the prior restaurant. Our waitress was nice and there for refills but did not tell us about the specials and there a quite few. Could not see the chalk board that had the specials listed due the the sun reflection. We both had the brisket sandwich which comes with some good homemade chips and a BBQ sauce and the waitress asked if we wanted some of the horseradish sauce also. The sandwich was a nice size and the brisket was good. Looking forward to our next lunch outing at Jd's. read more

Okay, I really debated between 3 stars and 4, here. My friend and I decided to come for lunch, and we sat on the restaurant side. Our server, who also the bartender, was just great. Very friendly and funny, took care of us quite well. My friend ordered a BLT and onion rings, and I got the pierogi burger and fries. I asked for the burger medium. I don't actually like medium as well as medium well, but my experience is that most cooks can't hit med-well and I end up with well done, so I order medium and hope for the best. This burger came out well done. VERY well done, and mighty dry. To the point where I took 2 small bites and just couldn't do any more. Also, oddly tasteless and bland, you could tell it wasn't seasoned at all. The fries were fresh cut and really good, so at least I had some of those. The server was very apologetic, although it certainly wasn't her fault, and she took it off the bill. She offered to bring me something else, but I didn't want to keep my friend waiting all that extra time. My friend enjoyed her BLT and onion rings, so it was at least a partial success! read more

Orderd full rack ribs, baked beans, coleslaw. Ribs were tender and cooked right, but underlying seasoning was just too much pepper, had to scrape it off. Baked beans? Not sure if they were baked beans or bean soup. Wish I could share video of them slopping around in the liquid. Way to watery. Coleslaw was good, earning this a 1 star review. read more

Met friends here on a busy Friday night for drinks and dinner... the place was packed, both the restaurant side and the bar. Wow, what a disappointment. Local to the neighborhood and have been waiting to give this spot a chance. Shitty jazz band with a terrible singer playing during the first season home Steelers game, so the atmosphere was already a mess. Our waitress slipped our drink order and left us without our beverages for 20 minutes, then messed up our food order with profuse apologies but continued negligence that just projected into the rest of the evening. Topping off the fact that our food order was incorrect, the waitress's father and friends were the largest party in the room where my guest and I sat where their party blurted out loudly their political opinions, including encouraging people to "not go gay," in which she quickly tried to shut the situation down but failed to and then turned myself and my guest into a spectacle for the party to glare at for the remainder of our visit. Totally inappropriate behavior for adults, and we were willing to be kind about the mishaps in service experience. Some man who never introduced himself walked up to our table with our paid bill and asked "if we had a problem?" again after we had paid our check which felt extremely confrontational at which point we decided to make it clear that we won't be returning to the establishment. Wishing all the locals who enjoy this spot nothing but serendipity in their future times at JD's and really disappointed that this spot failed to be a reliable and referable spot for the neighborhood. read more
