Prezza was beyond delicious for pasta. The Pea Ravioli is a light cream sauce with amazingly tasty morsels of ham is probably the best pasta dish I've ever eaten. I had an engagement shoot in the North End so Mr H met me for dinner afterward. He'd been to Prezza for a work thing and remembered it being good. It was a Monday night and was pretty packed. I'd probably make reservations to be safe. The tuna tartar appetizer was good, not particularly historic, but good. Actually kind of on the huge size - like would have fed 3 people! I felt like it could have done with a little extra je ne sais qoui (lemon? soy? zing?) but there was no denying the freshness of the tuna. The bread was great with flavorful olives. The pea ravioli was simply amazing. I would totally get it again next time. We split it and also shared the Gnocchi Bolognese which was really delicious. Had a little creaminess in the ragu (mascarpone?) and perfectly cooked gnocchi (no glue-y-ness) Our server was very pleasant, a tiny bit on the slow side with my glass of champagne but I'm really splitting hairs at this point. And sometimes I wonder if our English accents make waitstaff assume we're tourists who'll stiff them on the tip.... Should you find yourself in the North End I would highly recommend Prezza. Had dinner here recently while in Boston. Our North End visit started off at Panza, as per a recommendation from a friend. We arrived to a long line, and a rude host. Q:"Can we have a table for 2 please?" A: "Sorry, you're gonna have to stand in line." Q: "You don't take names? List?" A: "Nope" --... and, we're out of there... ...off to Prezza. To be honest, Prezza was the first restaurant that caught my eye when I was searching on Yelp. And for good reason... this restaurant is pretty damn delicioso, and Yelpers seem to like it. When we walked in, the restaurant was packed but we had no wait. As we walked to our table, the warm yet dim lighting and the gave the space a quality reminiscent of most intimate North End italian sports. However, don't let the lighting fool you -- the space is considerably larger than many North End restaurants... Although the menu is only a one pager, its very complex. There were so many things we wanted to try. Their wine list is very extensive -- instead of wine, I had my standard Hendricks Martini. They make a good cocktail, for sure. Our server, Don, was very, very cool. He recently moved back from the West Coast, and has an extensive knowledge of wines, foods and people. He was great at highlighting the menu's 'standouts', which were generally awesome: Appetizers: - Mussels spicy with chorizo and pancetta ($15): Delicious steamed mussels in a somewhat spicy marinara, with chunks of tender, salty and fatty Chorizo. The dish was the best of the night. - Soft shell crab with slaw ($15): The slaw perfectly balanced with the salty and cheesy filling of the crab. Very nice... if you haven't tried soft shell crab, it is not for everyone... Entrees: - Homemade Meatballs, Sausage and Ribs with Polenta ($25): Polenta is a favorite at this restaurant, and it is very well prepared. The creaminess pairs well with the acidity of the marinara and cheese, which envelops the meats. The sausage and ribs were awesome -- the meatballs were a bit under seasoned, but were texturally triumphant. Did I mention this is an ultimate Man dish? MEAT! - Lobster Fra Diavlo (pasta) -the only disappointing dish of the night. Although the fettucini was very well made and cooked to perfection, the sauce lacked a punch and the lobster was texturally a disaster. Just too chewy... Aside from the Lobster dish, another dissapointment was our wait time for food -- the sheer size and space of the packed restaurant I'm guessing contributed to a small kitchen. Our 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and a drink came to $118 and, with tip, left paying $140. So, its pricey, for sure, but definitely worth it. We'll be back, I'm sure. read more

My girlfriend took me here for a birthday dinner, and the meal was enjoyed by the both of us. The wine list is immense and well chosen, so the first fifteen minutes were dedicated to the selection. We ordered the beef tar-tar and Butternut Squash Arancini; both delicious, particularly the beef tar-tar. For the entree we enjoyed the venison and meatballs, however the food was oversalted. Venison was smokey and delicious, and the dish was well composed and required both sides to be on the same fork with the venison to really enjoy the complexity and the smokey flavor. As far as the meatballs, the North End has a diversity, but these were the best I have ever had. Their texture suggested that they had been braised within the sauce- delicious. Drove to Boston for my anniversary weekend and settled on Prezza for the "special" meal. The entire experience was memorable. The food was excellent, we took our time and were never once rushed. Our waiter, Paul, was TREMENDOUS! I left the restaurant feeling as though I met a new friend. After paid the bill, my wife was still finishing up her last glass of wine. I have to say that I've been a couple times and Ive left content. However recently we gave it a try again and we had a really great experience. Prezza should always be considered to be fine dining. Be prepared to eat slow and enjoy the meal for the price point. The red sangria is really good. The spinach salad is fantastic, as well as the tuna tar tar appetizer. My boyfriend had the swordfish. I thought the lobster broth was really fishy but he loved it! The bartenders were professional, did not rush us (even though it was the end of the night) and they made sure to ask our names at the end of the meal. Prezza is a very nice, well put together, and consistent restaurant. I will continue to suggest it to those visiting the north end. Ps.. Love the bread and olives mixture. read more

The Gold Standard for North End restaurants. When we arrived, we were seated at a nice table in the back, away from the cold. Before ordering our cocktails, we bumped into a friend and had a friendly discussion with a local author who my wife admires. My martini was perfect and my wife's half bottle of wine great. The room is warm, dimly lit with lots of ambiance. Taking our time is always our MO and as we lingered over drinks, Anthony came out and spent some time catching up with my wife, who was his real estate agent a while ago. For appetizers, I ordered the grilled squid and octopus, while my wife ordered the beet salad. Both were delicious. My main course was the lamb shank with broccoli rabe, polenta and honey glazed carrots. My wife had the swordfish with chick peas made with harissa ( a Moroccan spice). This was superb. Top-notch from start to finish. We started out with a variety of appetizers. The taro-wrapped langoustines were crunchy and delicious. The braised short-rib was unctuous and tender. The fried zucchini flowers were light and elegant. The entree selection was agonizing because I wanted pretty much everything. I finally settled on the paella. It was awesome. Fish, shrimp, mussels, calamari, chicken, and chorizo. Unfortunately, it was missing the chorizo. Fortunately, I didn't care, because the dish was so amazingly delicious. All the morsels of seafood were nestled in a rich, saffron-scented, perfectly cooked bed of rice. And it was served in an individual serving-sized copper paella pan-- wonderful! I heard raves about the veal tenderloin being incredibly tender and flavorful. But I was in another plane of existence with my paella so I wasn't even envious. I couldn't resist the tiramisu for dessert, and was not disappointed. This was a truly memorable meal. The paella still haunts me. Only next time I'll make sure they include the chorizo. read more

Ambiance was very nice, staff extremely friendly and professional. I could recall our servers name as she was amazing. Food was exceptional as well. We ordered ALOT of appetizers. I was in charge of the ordering and went a little overboard. Standouts for me were the grilled squid and octopus, stuffed figs, heirloom tomato salad and squash blossoms. When we asked about the North End from locals they said almost every place is good. If Prezza is an example of that, I could die eating my way through the North End. On business stopped in with my marketing team. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. Place is a little tight but not too bad. Very nice wine selection, hand made pastas, great rustic flavors. My appetizer had grilled Octopus that was just amazingly tender. It was the best I have had and was grilled nice and smokey. Had a pasta rags dish with lobster and a slightly spicy tomato sauce. After several visits to Prezza, I can write that this restaurant is consistently very good in so many ways! The food is straight up GREAT! Not your traditional gravy, family styled restaurant. Very strong wine & spirits menu, to accompany a broad selection of taste and price. This night we dined on apps of potato gnocchi, and a special of rabbit filled ravioli, both creamy rich and flavorful but so light and tasty. Next was a spinach salad with nice chunks of blue cheese and pancetta. The salad was very generous in portion size and would be easy to share. Main courses of the Crispy Pork Chop, Fish Stew, Bone- less free range half chicken, all distinctive in taste and very well prepared. I strongly recommend Prezza for a GREAT meal and a staff that is extremely attentive and very knowledgeable. This place is amazing. The service was excellent, nice poeple, very attentive. The food was delicious. We had the pasta bolognese as an appetizer. Next time, i will be getting this as my entree! Prezza is a nice restaurant with great service. We went with a large party and sat at a beautiful table in the window. The food, however, was not as good as the service and atmosphere. The appetizers were impressive. Portions were good with nice flavor. The zucchini flowers were delicious as was the portobella mushroom. Very flavorful sauce over polenta. We ordered the venison which came out dry and was disappointing. The cod was bland and waterlogged. Very expensive for the quality of the entrees. How would you like your food brought out?...just to him How is everything?...just to him Is there anything else I can get you?...just to him Thank you for coming and have a great night....just to him (this was where I could no longer say nothing)... Even my male dinner date was befuddled by her bias treatment. This was so offensive and apparent that we felt inclined to give a separate cash tip to the young gentlemen who refilled our waters and cleared our dishes throughout the night. Unlike our rude server, he was extremely polite and appropriate. This server could have learned A LOT from him!!! I decided that I didn't want this to happen to any other guest so informed the manager regarding our experience and all he said was... "I wish you would have told me sooner. Here's my card" How about let me speak with her. How about, why don't I take 10% off your bill. How about, I'll bring her over and she will apologize. What we had: Tuna tartare: Full of sinew, flavorless tough tuna, felt like I was a bottom feeder being fed low grade tuna disguised as tartare that couldn't even be placed in a ring mold before being served Gnocci: THE WORST gnocci I have ever had!!! Tough, chewy, weird shaped wormy crescent potato dumplings that drowned in an over powering Bolognese sauce that was salty and one dimensional in flavor profile. Rigatoni: Best tasting dish of the night with a pleasant cream sauce and generous amount of black truffles. However pasta to sauce ratio was awkwardly low. Veal Porterhouse: BURNED! Tasted like bitter tar, it was impossible to enjoy. The risotto was well prepared, however the polenta was much too wet. I've been here a handful of times and am pretty wowed every time I go. It's def. pricey but you can eat well without breaking the bank. I'm not sure about these small portions some people mentioned. My last meal consisted of a fried oyster app w/ big beautifully fried oysters, maybe 7 of them, for only $8. I got the half portion of raviolini w/ rock shrimp and corn and a side of grilled asparagus and I was full (about $15 and $8), esp. with their excellent bread and olive oil Two friends got the large seared sea scallops, one got the chicken and lobster arancini and the desserts were as big as your head, esp. the bread pudding. Our server and runners were a little scattered but it was a busy nite. Ehh Yelp sums this one up--a-ok. If you have mediocre standards when it comes to Italian food, you will be a happy camper here, otherwise, I would pass. I went here with a group of around 10 people during the week. Service was excellent throughout the night, very quick, accommodating and attentive which was fantastic. We started with the grilled octopus which was okay---the octopus was still a bit slimy and hadn't been seared on a hot enough grill and there was little accompanying this dish though it was listed with braised white beans and toasted parsley. The crispy shrimp was quite good-enormous head-on shrimp with a flavorful italian slaw that added a nice brightness. For the main, I had their pumpkin ravioli which were extremely small raviolis and lacked filling and flavor. It was like a eating a semi-gummy pasta that wasn't executed well given how droopy it was. Other's tried their chicken and swordfish dishes and all felt that everything was okay but to be honest, no one was particularly impressed by the quality nor ingredient combinations. The dish wasn't as unctuously cheesy and cholesterol laden as I hoped. It seemed to contain mostly claw meat and lacked some salt overall. Lauren and I arrived at the restaurant without a reservation after a wine tasting at Wine Bottega on Hanover Street. The house was full, but the hostess got us a table and we sat down to a comfortable and relaxing meal. Spicy mussels with polenta and chorizo were a great opener. This spot was bustling on a Saturday night. We ate early, as a 6:30 table was all that they had available. We saw friends greeting each other here; it's clearly a community favorite of the North End. The service was prompt and attentive, and the experience was enjoyable. I was a tad disappointed by the food here, though, having heard great things and gone in with lofty expectations. It was good but not great; truly, a 3.5 star experience. I wanted to try everything, and was very hungry, so I got an app, a small pasta dish, and a main. First up was the saffron arancini with braised veal brisket and veal sauce. The bits of shredded brisket were tasty but salty, and the arancini (fried Italian style rice balls) were a little bland. For pasta, I tried one of their giant raviolis, filled with egg yolk and ricotta and dressed with a brown butter and sage sauce. The ravioli was tasty, and the yolk poured out and mixed with the butter sauce to a pleasing effect, but the sauce was a little heavy and gloppy, and that criticism applies to all of their sauces. My brother had their gnocchi, and though tasty, the sauce, a variant of tomato cream meat sauce, was heavy and gloppy. The sauce served alongside my father's pork chop was borderline syrup, and that was a weak dish overall, as the chop itself had been breaded and friend, and was both bland and dry. My veal porterhouse though, was wood grilled perfectly, just a nice, perfectly cooked cut of meat that was juicy and had a great and mild grill flavor, so that was a real highlight, and perhaps an indication that sticking with on of their several wood grilled meat options is a good way to go here. The white chocolate bread pudding desert was really quite splendid, not overly heavy and a very nicely pulled off, and showed that, at least in the pastry department, they can pull of a refined sauce here; there was syrupy, condensed milk, dulce-de-leche kind of sweet sauce under the pudding, and a dollop of perfect vanilla bean ice cream on top. They do have a nice wine list, we had a magnum of 2000 Allegrini Amarone that was simply divine. read more

The best clam chowder we ever had. The soup was creamy and almost bland by itself, but in the center it has mashed potatoes w/ bacon and we were done. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner in leiu of a cheaper italian restaurant in the North End. I'm glad we did; it was pretty romantic and fancy and made the occasion feel special. We both started with the grilled Octopus and Squid. It was ridiculously good, with a delicious sauce. For an entree, I got the lobster fra diavolo. They do not skimp on lobster and the fresh pasta was outstanding. My boyfriend got the venison with a pumpkin risotto. The risotto was cheesy and delicious, and he said the venison was good. We also got a tasty bottle of pinot grigio. My only complaint would be that it was pretty expensive and at times the waitress could have been more attentive but it was a good choice for a special occasion. read more

As our waiter was taking our drink order being the devout Pino Grigio drinker that I am, told him I would have whatever mildest Pino Grigio they had. He stopped writing on his pad and asked me earnestly "Can I please please suggest a wine for you that I think you will love?" Id be a fool to not to try new things so I said absolutely. He brought over a sample of a white wine that was everything I like in my wine: mild, sweet, crisp, and only takes me 2 glasses to do the job. We ordered the mussels for the app and when it came I had to stop the waiter and ask him if he mistakenly gave us the entree portion...it was THAT BIG. He just laughed and said thats what everyone said. Now that is my kind of italian meal! Besides them not being skimpy on the seafood it was heavenly. We ended up asking for more bread so that we could mop up the broth. Our Entrees were very good as well. We shared a pasta dish and the raved pork chop (also huge). Despite the portions being so large we finished every last bite and then the waiter came with the dreaded question "is there room for dessert?" Even though I was about to pass out from overeating and there was a definite bulge happening over the top of my pants I figured if the first two courses were amazing it would be foolish to miss what was probably a fantastic dessert and if we didn't end up getting the dessert we would most likely end up at Modern Pastry anyways for a fruit tart. I have nothing but lovely things to say about Prezza. My boyfriend and I have been there three or four times and always looks forward to going back. Because the restaurant is on the smaller side, the atmosphere is intimate, with booths and a few tables. It can, however, accommodate large parties who can liven things up a bit. The wait staff is friendly and attentive with just the right amount of presence. As far as food goes, I am always excited to see what the menu has to offer (I believe it changes seasonally) and am always pleased with the results. The chef has family in the Abruzzo, an eastern province of Italy, which is actually where I spent some time during college doing an archaeological dig, so he clearly knows a thing or two about Italian cooking. The olive oil that is brought out with the bread is absolutely the best I have ever tasted (it's imported from Crete; we asked). The portabello mushrooms served over polenta was to die for; I'd never really liked polenta before, but this was perfectly creamy and went beautifully with the mushrooms. As an entree, my favorite has been the lamb, which was tender and had flavor. As far as fine Italian food goes, this is it. As far as drinks go, there is a short cocktail list with a few choice creations. The BF ordered a maple sidecar the first time we went and has been raving about it ever since. There is also an extensive wine list, about which the waiters are knowledgeable, which means they are ready to make a recommendation. Prices are high, but not overly so; I definitely think the experience is worth it. It's a great place to take a date or celebrate a momentous occasion, but I have seen larger groups having a ball with their friends.
