Maaan, I love you Yelp. I've lived in this neighborhood for almost 11 years and when I moved here, I used to go to Prego for their amazing sandwiches and the occasional 6-pack. But then something happened and the sandwiches went away and the world was sad. But I randomly checked Yelp for sandwiches nearby and saw that there were NEW reviews from here talking about their sandwiches. So I walked down and got myself an Italian. Now let's be clear, the sandwich is over $13 with tax. But, it's a really good sandwich and depending on your gluttony, you can easily save half for dinner or lunch tomorrow. That's what I did. The Italian was stuffed with meat and cheese and sweets (or hots, or both) and it was glorious. The bread was wonderful. I have this debate with my girlfriend about hard rolls vs soft rolls. I'm a soft roll person because I like the perfect bite and she apparently prefers dental bills. But this sandwich from Prego had warm crispy bread that was also easy to squeeze into my piehole and it was amazing. Definitely go here for a sandwich. All day. Any day. read more

I used to come to this place once a week. I stopped going because there was a staff change and they weren't as good. I went back to try again recently but now the shelves are pretty empty (everything: wine, chips, sodas, chocolate, etc. are on low stock) and the person who took my order looked at me like "you want me to work?". As other reviewers have noted, the homemade deli sandwiches, prepackaged fruit in plastic containers, and pre-wrapped sandwiches here aren't anything extraordinary. You can go to the Safeway across the street and replicate your own sandwich, or go to some other deli shop in the Dupont Circle area to get something better. Now since the business is Korean owned, there are Korean items on the menu, such as the bulgogi lunch and dinner special (dinner includes an additional item). I ordered the bulgogi dinner, which I'm sorry to say, was simply disappointing. For at least $7-$8 you get some rice with relatively scarce bulgogi meat on top, with a sliver of kimchi. I believe I was also supposed to get some mandu (Korean dumplings), but they weren't available. I think there are Korean carts in town that offer a better deal. read more

SANDWICH REVIEW Came in the night before to pick up some champagne and noticed their sandwich bar. Everything looked and smelled fresh so thought I'd come back sometime soon to give them a try. Next morning... Picked up two breakfast sandwiches. Service was friendly and helpful. Upped my sandwich order to the larger baguette and was not disappointed. Bread was crispy on the outside and warm & soft on the inside. Eggs were fresh. Cheese was on point. Bacon was crisped up to perfection. Prego Again is a very unlikely place to serve up amazing sandwiches. Glad I tried them out. I'll for sure be a regular here. Btw, should go without saying: booze galore here. Prego Again is my go to neighborhood beer and wine store, so I was excited to see they opened a deli counter this week! They offer a variety of hot and cold deli meat sandwiches (also breakfast sandwiches!)--all with fresh and quality ingredients. Dependable bodega on our street! Extremely reasonably priced breakfast sandwiches - I usually go for a bacon egg and cheese on a kaiser roll, which'll run you about $5. They've got a really good selection of beer and wine too. Only reason this is 4 and not 5 stars is because I find the bagels to be just okay - they're fluffier than they are dense. I stopped by for the porketta and swiss panini with sauteed mushrooms. It was disappointing. The bread wasn't toasted or pressed enough. Their menu advertised the porketta as "rosemary and black pepper pork loin". The meat on my sandwich looked and tasted like thinly sliced deli ham that had a sprinkling of spices on the outside. Also, the amount of meat on my panini looked nothing like the other photos on Yelp. After a long and busy Monday, I was too tired to cook something at home, and didn't have the time to take advantage of the many great dining options around me, so after picking up a few groceries from Safeway across the street I really just wanted a quick sandwich from Subway to take home and enjoy (I use that word loosely, as I don't really care for Subway). Bummer, they close at 8PM and it was 8:05. At this point, I nearly considered just saying screw it and going home to a frozen pizza. As I was walking past Prego I noticed the sign saying deli, and thought what the hell I'll settle for a sandwich from here instead. Walking inside it reminded me more of a convenience store than somewhere you would actually want to get food from, and I should have just accepted my shitty food fate right there and left. Then I noticed they had a Cuban sandwich on the panini board, and succombed to my weakness for all things pork related. Thankfully the guy who took my order and payment at least washed his hands prior to preparing my sandwich, but I should have known when I heard him pressing buttons on the microwave I was in for major disappointment. What the hell could he possibly be heating up? Well, the sandwich turned out to be of moderate size, I suppose, for the price...but the quality was just dreadful. Somehow I managed to eat the entire thing, probably due to being distracted by a PTI recording I was watching on DVR, but as I continued bite after bite I slowly realized how much more I hated each one. By the time I Was done it was like my version of giving labor...perhaps that's why they call it Prego Again? I couldn't get the awful flavors of the mustard, stale not-toasted bread, and limp pork out of my mouth all night. Immediately after eating I went and devoured a handful of Salt and Vinegar chips, just to try to overpower the flavors, and that didn't work. An hour later it was still there, and I had to down half a dozen chocolate covered cherries just to finally eliminate it. I'm definitely scratching this off the to-return list, as I've actually gotten a more palatable sandwich (even though it made me sick) from a gas station Subway add-on in a random Virginia country town going down I-95. As someone else stated, for the $7 it costs here I can easily walk across the street to Safeway and buy better ingredients to make 2 sandwiches at home. read more

In my one-woman household, Sundays = sandwiches. But the 17th Street Subway closes at 5 on Sunday. (I know, right?! Ridiculous.) So I ventured next door, to the place where I buy wine when Cairo is closed on Sundays (I know, right?!?). I ordered a Reuben, but the grill isn't on on weekends, so the manager recommended a cold sandwich. The club on a hoagie roll was super delicious; I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVE going to Prego Again. Ever since they got the new owners, the food is unbelievably fresh; crisp vegetables, soft breads, heck-even the slice of orange they give you with every sandwich is juicy and flavorful every time! Being a vegetarian, it's difficult to find a deli that caters to herbivores, but Prego totally takes the cake. Like I said, I don't eat meat, but I know my brother is always craving their bulgogi (never knew what it was til we ventured in). Awesome deli. Hands down. read more

I'm sure that Prego makes all of its money selling beer & wine but I like to come here to pick up something ready-made for lunch when I'm working in DuPont - all the other suckers can face the lunchtime crowds closer to the circle but I've never found a serious line here. Nothing they sell stands out to me as over the top delicious but I've never had anything bad, either. Their egg and tuna salads are pretty good and I love how they serve them over lettuce as green salads. They also sell containers of things like veggie pierogies, tofu and sushi. The people behind the counter are super nice and helpful, too. True I could probably make most of the food that Prego sells at home, but when I need to grab something quickly this is one of my preferred places to go. read more

Prego Again is a great neighborhood deli and wine store. It looks small and clean when you first walk in, but if you turn to your right, you'll be greeted by a heavenly room filled with rows and rows of wine. Their selection is fantastic and very well-priced. I live in the neighborhood and we prefer to stock up on wines from Prego Again because there's such a great variety. The owners here are extremely nice and always willing to make suggestions. They make a mean bagel egg and cheese as well for mornings that are a bit rough. This place frustrates me. There are not many good sandwich or lunch options on 17th street, and if you go here, you are gonna pay through the nose. Basic turkey sandwich - expect to pay at least $7.00. It's only slightly better and more meat than the crappy $4 subway sandwich next door. Maybe add on some old, but at least healthy seaweed salad as a side - OK $4.50. Keep in mind the seaweed is less fresh than the $3.50 seaweed salad at Whole Foods, and the Whole Foods salad is twice the size. Those are only a few examples. I don't even look at the wine, because I know whatever they have, i can find down the street and am guaranteed it will be less expensive. The food is at least better than Subway. I'm so upset that it took me 2 1/2 years to discover the savior that is Prego Again in the Dupont area. For those 2 1/2 years I would just throw up my hands and give up when the liquor stores in the area were closed and I needed to buy beer or wine to host a dinner or bring as a host/hostess gift. Then, one day when I just stopped in to get something I forgot at the grocery store I discovered the AMAZING wine and beer selection that this place has and I never even thought to explore. Seriously, it is such a god-send. They have an expansive selection of wines starting at $5. The selection is really good considering how small the store is. As far as the deli goes, I myself have not tried it. My boyfriend did try it once and said that he was not super impressed, especially for the price and size, so that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But to be honest, I will not be returning because of the food. I'll be returning in my time of need when people are coming over in 5 minutes on a Sunday night and I have nowhere else to turn for alcohol. Oh and the owners are nice too. Girlfriend and I were done with a night of pub crawling and wanted to sit down somewhere quiet. Saw a few guys sitting outside here enjoying some beverages. Thought it would be worth checking the place out, we had no idea it was more of a convenience store. But the owner was great. Sold us a six pack of a great beverage, opened up a couple for us and gave us some cups. We sat outside and enjoyed the early spring DC weather. Loved the beer selection. On top of that, they have a great beer selection. They have a couple picnic tables outside in case you want to sit and eat (sans server though) and of course 17th Street is super dog friendly. read more

Awful. I ordered a bagel with bacon, egg and cheese from here through UberEats. What I got was a bagel with unmelted American cheese, some bacon and no egg. It took ages to prepare and it was cold. Doesn't seem to be the drivers fault as the cheese is unmelted. And again, the egg is missing! So disappointed. read more

This place is my go-to when I'm hungry for lunch. Their deli is amazing, but I'm so upset they've discontinued their delicious cheesesteaks (the turkey panini is just as satisfying). They are located right next door to a subway. I really wanted a cheesesteak this one time and went there instead. Immediately regretted that decision after I bit into my sandwich. Subway is cheaper, but Prego's quality is much better. Prego Again is not just a beer, wine, and deli store though. They also have your drug store needs! They are truly amazing. read more

A good beer selection, an okay wine selection, but this place is notable for two reasons: 1) The folks who work at the store are extremely nice, especially when compared to the cranks across the street. 2) THEY ARE OPEN ON SUNDAY. It's incredible that so few wine and liquor stores are, but they are. Just before kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday, the line was stretching around the store. The owners and employees are very sweet but I am not sure that they are serving products that they know much about. Prepared deli sandwiches, sushi and salads...oh and soup - basic chicken noodle, tomato etc. There is nothing here that makes one think to him/herself, "I want to go to Prego!". The deli here has just changed hands - about 45 days ago - and the new owner, AJ and her wife, are putting a lot of effort into making it a high quality, informal, affordable breakfast and lunch spot. They have new grills and use high quality meats (Boar's Head - shout out to Charlottesville). It is every bit as good as the Dupont Deli and definitely the best fast meal on 17th. The new tables out front are also more welcoming and comfortable than what was there before. If you haven't been here in a while, it's definitely worth another visit. read more
