I went in to get my vision form from the MVA completed. The customer service representative was unable to provide me directions on how to get from the parking garage to their office. If you decide to go, the entrance to the offices are between the Joint Chiropractic and Floyds Barbershop. The person who checked my vision did not seem interested in getting the eye prescription perfectly accurate, but was more interested in getting it done quickly. She quickly moved through the options. They charged me for the services up front. I later received an additional bill. When I called them for an explanation of the double billing, the customer service representative rudely stated that I must be unfamiliar with how medical services are billed that I did not understand why I was being billed twice. The issue was resolved when I used the patient portal to file a formal complaint about the double billing, including a picture of my original receipt. If you go to Precision Eye Care at the Rotunda, I advise you to retain the receipt of any money you pay up front, because you may receive an additional bill later, and will need to file a formal billing complaint! read more

A little disappointed here. I waited all week for this appointment and expected a bit more time and attention from the provider. I had to wait about 40 minutes to be seen by her which was already disappointing. When I did finally get to see her, she appeared to be in a rush and did not really care to listen to my issue. She was walking away while I was talking. I think the issue was not severe or important enough for her time. I was literally asking questions in the hallway while she was walking away! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I wish I had read the other reviews here first... What an absolutely embarrassing excuse for a medical facility. My first appointment was over an hour after the time I was supposed to be seen. First red flag. I got back there and the doctor asked why I was there? Second red flag. I said for a routine eye exam, and she said she doesn't do that! But she would try to remember?? I should've bolted then but I had waited so long and just wanted to get it over with. The office is modern and the digital check in process is impressive and efficient. The technicians are thorough and knowledgeable; however I spent the majority of the time with them and not the ophthalmologist. But im sure my insurance bill will primarily bill for the doctors services and not the techs. The doctor is knowledgeable but her bedside manner leaves lots to be desired. She's not very conversant and required probing which is too much work for me. They also should install sinks for handwashing in EVERY exam room. Eye doctors can easily contaminate and cross contaminate. I was surprised by the absence of sanitizing and handwashing in this facility. read more

She didn't communicate well regarding diagnoses, and put diagnoses into my chart that she didn't even tell me about. Her office charged me $40 to have them print out my prescription for me, which violates both the FTC Eyeglass Rule and HIPAA. read more

Showed up for a 10:15 appointment. At 11:00, a staff member finally apologized to those of us in the waiting room. The doctor had a student shadowing him today, they said, so they were running behind. That would have been a helpful thing to tell me when I checked in. After waiting a few more minutes, I finally asked how much longer I would have to wait and was told I was next. And how much longer is that, I asked. At least 10 more minutes, she told me. I called in advance to make sure they took my insurance and to know how much I would be charged. There was some confusion when I got there and during my appointment Dr. Romero called the front office person in- it wasn't a comfortable situation.. I had already felt kind of weird before Dr. Romero even came in to check my eyes because someone else did my eye exam and afterwards told me that because I was young I shouldn't have too strong of a prescription. I'm in my thirties and I've had astigmatism since middle school and had never been told that before. To top it off, unfortunately when I went to get new glasses at my usual place, I was told I should go get my prescription rechecked because it was weaker than my previous history of prescriptions and didn't account for my astigmatism. I felt frustrated and contacted them, but no one even got back to me to apologize. I'm out of money and I'm going to have to wait now to get my eyes rechecked somewhere else before I get new glasses. read more

I scheduled a normal eye appointment for contact and glasses prescription and stated that I would be paying cash. They said it would be $200. After the appointment when I was paying they said it would be another $40 for the contact prescription. Which I paid. Then I was told I would have to pay and additional $100 for a copy of my glasses prescription. Which again I paid because at this point I just wanted to have my prescriptions and never come back again. Today, over a month since my appointment, I was billed again for $139. When I called they said they didn't have anyone that could speak to me about my billing and they would have to get back to me. This is absolutely outrageous. I assume these billing practices are to take advantage of the elderly. When I asked how this could happen they informed me that maybe they just got back the co-pay from the insurance--again I paid cash. Zero for customer service, zero for billing, and just a 2 for the prescription. read more

I don't know where these other reviews are coming from, but this was awful. I should have just gone to LensCrafters. I hate them, but it would have been better than this mess. First of all, Dr. Romero is NOT the one who fitted me for my prescription, glasses and contacts. It was her assistant who said "Hmm. This is weird. I'm sorry I just am not sure. I'm learning with you too." The assistant was very nice, but was definitely a bit unsure of what my new prescription is, which makes sense, because she is in fact an assistant. One of the biggest things the assistant told me is that she thinks I might need bifocals or progressive lenses, but was unsure and trying to figure out my prescription. I am 35, which is very young to be given a prescription like this, and she said Dr. Romero would talk to me more about it. I thought great! Because I don't even know where to start with getting new glasses, contacts, appointments, etc. Dr. Romero came in and did one test where she looked at my eyes, quickly said things as she was doing it, that I didn't understand, turned the lights on and said to come back in a year and left. If I'm being generous, it was a 10 minute interaction. She said nothing about my new prescription or looking at frames, no one there did, they just asked me for $140 for the fittings and sent me on my way. My eyes couldn't even see straight yet from the drops before I was out the door. Now I have no idea how to get glasses or what I should be looking for, they have me trialing mono lenses, which I have no idea what that is and have never had that before, but if they don't work I'll have to go back. I'm guessing if I have to go back that I will have to pay another 100 to get fitted for contacts again. I have so many more questions than I went in with and am even more concerned about my eye health, ESPECIALLY since Dr. Romero said small growth during her less than 10 minute rant where questions had no place or time to be asked. Everyone here seems like they could be anywhere else. This was a waste of my time and my money and now I'll just have to do the same thing at another optometrist. Save your time and money unless you're ok with an assistant doing a doctors job. I hope that assistant gets her optometrist degree, because she's keeping that place afloat and doing more than "Dr" Romero. read more

45 minute wait before I was seen. On top of the $20 copay I expected, I was charged $140 out of pocket for a contact lens fitting. A month later, I received a bill for an additional $102. When I called to complain, I was told it wasn't their problem and to contact my insurance. At the appointment, the eye doctor (an older white man) put a solution in my pupils that caused them to dilate. He then left me to sit in a dark officer for approx. 30 minute without any explanation for why or when he'd be back. My pupils took HOURS to dilate back. I asked the doctor if it was safe to drive home as I could barely see and he said it was, but I REALLY feel it wasn't and was scared the whole time while driving. My eyes didn't return to normal for hours and I had to take the rest of the day off work. I really wish I'd been given a choice or informed of this risk so I could've prepared a safe ride home and day off. I will not be returning to this practice. read more

I thought Dr. Romero and the assistants were pretty terrific during my initial visit. Dr. Romero explained everything she saw in my eyes in detail. Things fell apart after that. Communications with the practice since then have been 100% horrendous, and I am weighing whether to abandon ship. I only receive information on how to prepare for the next step WHEN I ASK, and then I receive such a variety of responses that my confidence in the office shattered. A registrar was to make the retina appointment for the following week. I didn't hear from her, so Monday of the following week I called thinking maybe it had been scheduled but they forgot to inform me. The same person said she was just about to call and schedule it. I asked two questions: 1. DO I NEED TO CONTINUE NOT WEARING MY CONTACTS UNTIL THE RETINA APPOINTMENT? 2. AFTER THE RETINA APPOINTMENT CAN I WEAR MY CONTACTS UNTIL MY NEXT APPOINTMENT WITH DR. ROMERO? Over the course of the next 2.5 hours I received 9 different answers. I'd hang up from one call and minutes later someone else would call with a different answer. I wanted to find out the earliest possible surgery date so I could plan my FSA allotment, so I submitted a portal inquiry. There was no response so I called. A "new person who started Monday" wouldn't answer that question, but she informed me that I could not wear my contacts 5 days prior to my next appointment....(my appointment was 5 days away). Sooo...although I will be starting over, I've decided to cut my losses. Communication is crucial for this process and if I can't get correct answers to basic questions, or proper guidance to navigate subsequent steps, prudence dictates that I go elsewhere. 2 tears in a bucket... read more

Beware! No bedside manner at all. I'm reading all of these positive reviews about Dr. Maria Romero being patient, kind etc and I had the complete opposite experience. Imagine meeting the Dr. for the first time who never actually says "hello" when she enters and begins the exam. She then tells me that I might have glaucoma and plays three videos for me to watch to learn about it. She follows up with "Is this clear?" I say ," Yes if this is a factory".. She then sits down in a huff and says, "What are your questions?" I have never felt so disrespected by a doctor in my life. I'm not sure what would have prompted such unprofessional and uncaring behavior but I will never go back there. I surely wasn't her cup of tea or her type of client to get any respect or consideration from her. Imagine putting drops in someone's eyes and not telling them that when they walk outside the brightness would be extreme. Imagine not providing sunshades and asking the client if they had any sunshades of their own? My sense was prejudice. I've not ever thought this of any doctor that I've selected but something wasn't right about this experience. read more

Everything was going well until I met with Dr. Romero herself. From the moment she walked in the room something was off. She burst in, eyes glazed over, avoiding eye contact, immediately launching into a short monologue of "hello, how are you, etc" without waiting for nor expecting a response. I was slightly taken aback, but thought whatever. Then, when she sits down and asks me why I'm there, she interrupts me multiple times while I'm speaking, trying to predict the end of my sentences. Yet another bad sign. When she stands over me to put eye drops in my eyes, she is so rough and careless while doing so that she scratches my eyelid with her fingernail, causing me some discomfort. I almost say something then, but thought perhaps she must have slipped. But the last straw was when she tried to put a device to my eye to check my eye pressure. Typically, because of how sensitive the eye area is, when trying to keep a patient's eyelids open the doctor will gently spread apart the surrounding skin without actually touching the eye or eyelid. Romero, however, pressed her thumb on my eyelid and tried to shove it open, causing me immediate pain and discomfort, to which I recoiled. "Sorry- it's sensitive," I said. She tried again, and I recoiled a second time, and we stopped the appointment right there. This experience tells me one of two things: either 1. Romero is not qualified to be an eye doctor, as she doesn't know what she's doing or 2. Romero does not have her patient's comfort and safety in mind. Either way, this is a huge red flag and I will not be going back. Not to mention the billing issues and the front desk staff refusing to bill my insurance for my refraction, and them later removing my access to my visit notes after I cancelled my follow-up appointment... I highly encourage anyone seeking quality, professional care to do so at another office, because you will not find it here. read more

I previously left a one-star review of this practice after receiving a bogus glasses Rx in March 2022 from a former partner of Dr. Romero's, then having my follow-up appointment canceled via the practice's patient portal with no explanation. It was only until I left my review--nearly a full year later--that I was contacted by Precision's office manager, Jamie, who said that she was "deeply troubled" by my review and asked whether 50% off their (cheaply made and overpriced) frames with my next visit would make things right. I responded that no, selling me something that your office profits a huge margin off of would not make things right--the right thing to do would simply be to bring me in and give me a complementary eye exam to correct their office's mistake on my prescription. Pretty obvious (and standard practice), right? "Okay" she said, and the appointment was made. And boy, was it an uncomfortable visit. Jamie, the office manager, was profusely apologetic to an extent that felt extremely uncomfortable, desperate, and like complete, hollow pandering. When I declined her sales pitch for 50% off frames (AGAIN), she pivoted with "I'll see what I can do about getting new lenses in your existing frames for free." She then left the exam room, only to return several minutes later and say that she could not, in fact, do that for me. Why get my hopes up in the first place about that, exactly?? Oh, to try to get me to delete my one-star review, that's why. At one point while I was in the chair, she openly ASKED ME TO CONFIRM that I was planning to delete the review. Things only got worse once it was time for the doctor to come in. Dr. Romero was overtly hostile and confrontational--insinuating that I was being "overly sensitive" about my Rx (which, again, was *completely unusable* for distance vision, and which I had wasted approximately $800 on glasses with, thinking maybe the problem was with the manufacturer rather than the Rx); accusing ME of being the one to have canceled my follow-up appointment with her practice in 2022; and OPENLY GUILTING me for leaving a one-star review of her practice because "it takes hundreds of positive reviews to offset a bad review" and "everyone has bad days at their job, including you" (yes, she somehow tried to put the onus back on ME for her practice's mistake). Pepper in an unbelievable degree of condescension and some bizarre tidbits about how her husband is a neurosurgeon (okay? You're trying to invalidate my position that you screwed up by implying that you're rich?) and suffice to say that I was profoundly dumbfounded by this interaction with a *doctor* of all people, absolutely appalled by the bedside manner--Dr. Romero was clearly NOT happy about having to work for free (or so I thought). I left the office feeling extremely uncomfortable but at least relieved that it was all over with, and that they had kept their word to correct their mistake without charging me for it. I upheld my end of the arrangement and deleted my one-star review. But here's the kicker--THEIR OFFICE STILL BILLED MY INSURANCE FOR THE VISIT. AND NOW I OWE A COPAY. I could not recommend this practice less. Both of my visits with them have been complete nightmares. The place reeks of desperation, incompetence, and exploitative marketing. I could go on--about how they clearly hired one of their staff member's teenage sons for minimum wage to run the copier (yes, I saw him with my own eyes); how there's an espresso machine in the waiting room with a sign taped over it reading "Employees Only!" (maybe consider keeping the machine in the back?). I just genuinely can't believe this place. Clearly they make their money from ophthalmology and eye surgery services (plus selling overpriced frames to the gullible, monied clientele they get at the Rotunda), because their optometry services are just laughable. Stay far, far away if you want to support a practice with integrity. I wouldn't at all be surprised if they refuse to verify my Rx when I order my FOURTH pair of glasses now, just for leaving this candid second review. read more

Let's talk cost: I was billed $410 for the exam. That's twice the national average of $200 for a new prescription. For years I have paid sixty-five to eighty dollars for the same service. Sure they are organized here in the Rotunda. But no more organized than any other eye exam provider I've had the pleasure of using. PEC is off my list of return businesses. read more

One thing I love about this office is that the wait time is minimal! It is very organized, check in is easy and contact free, and everybody in the office is knowledgeable and helpful. I've been seeing Dr. Wang who has been able to answer all of my questions thoroughly and provide a good amount of information for me to make decisions. I appreciate that while she makes suggestions, she is not pushy about them as other doctors have been. Her front office staff was really good about checking my insurance coverage and making sure that all services were covered before performing them. Also an issue that I've had with other providers. Lastly, the office is in a good location with parking and is very cute and CLEAN. read more

Dr. Romero takes the time to make sure that you know information about the disease you are diagnosed with. She takes her time and does not make you feel rushed out of the office. I would definitely recommend her to anyone. read more

My experience with Dr. Romero was not a good one. I had cataract surgery on both eyes. The surgery on my right eye was fantastic, but the surgery on the left eye did not go well. I told Dr. Romero the day after the operation that I felt like I did when I had the wrong eyeglass prescription. I met with her seven times between December 2019 and May 2020. Twice she scolded me and said I was just allowing stress to get to me. She made no effort to determine the cause of my problem, and she didn't remember what she said from one appointment to the next. I last saw her on May 26, 2020, when she said to me: couldn't I just live with it? The vision in my left eye was not any better than when I wore glasses, and I couldn't see well-enough to read lengthy text. This was not how I wanted to live. I met with an ophthalmologist for a second opinion. He said that the wrong lens had been put in my left eye. It didn't have the correction for astigmatism. I was also tested by my optometrist, and she said that I had always had astigmatism in both eyes, and always worse in my left eye. She couldn't understand why Dr. Romero corrected the right eye but not the left. I had given Dr. Romero the results of my last eye exam before the surgery so she should have seen that I had always had problems with astigmatism. I will live the rest of life with vision issues in my left eye, including blurriness and chronic ache. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Romero. She was referred to me by my optometrist and I have been very happy with Dr. Romero. She is professional, knowledgable, and has a great bedside manner. I have been completely satisfied with my two cataract surgeries she performed. When I read a couple of the reviews, I thought, "who are they talking about?"-as they do not reflect my experience at all. I referred a friend to her and she is very pleased as well. read more

I thought that the office was well staffed and professional. The eye exam was done by Dr. Romero and complete. My problem is with the billing and administration side. Their costs are NOT transparent. I was billed originally for CONTACTS (I do not wear contacts) then I have been billed twice for aspects of the same comprehensive "medical" exam with separate copays. This was never presented while I was there. I have NO confidence in their billing system or insurance claims. I will pay the bill because I could rather do that then spend days waiting on BCBS as Dr. Romero's administrator suggests. Find somewhere else to go. read more
