Eye surgery. I needed eye surgery for cataracts. I went to BEP Dr. WILLIAMSON to find out what they could do about it. They examined my eyes did tests. They gave us recommendations and there were several choices. I told them that I did not need any help with long-distance viewing. I only needed the ability to read close-up. What I was reading without wearing glasses. I asked them if they could give me this information in layman's terms because I don't know medical anything. They suggested new lenses in both eyes. I reiterated to them that I did not want to do anything to my long distance vision. I only wanted to be able to read up close without wearing glasses. It seems there was a lack of understanding here. They also offered me another option, which was if I were willing to pay them $5000 out-of-pocket they could do it a different way. I don't know what the different way was. They never really explain that to me so I declined on that offer. Previously, I've gone to a different eye doctor and they suggested another way to do. It was to do two different eyes differently, which sounded OK to me however, BEP did not offer me this option whatsoever. My wife was with me through all of this and she knows what they said, and what they interpreted incorrectly. I also told them that I have bad anxiety and the only way I could go through with this if they let me wear my wireless earbuds so I could listen to music and not freak out. They said no! Again, I asked Dr. WILLIAMSON if I could wear these earbuds, I don't know what has to do with any thing between my earbuds and what they were gonna operate in my eyes and they finally agreed that I could do it reluctantly. We then scheduled the cataract Surgery. I had to wait several weeks until I was supposedly going to feel some improvement in my vision. Eventually, the only difference I notice was that my background of what I was looking at was brighter. Then after several months, I was healing feeling OK but I was so disappointed because they said I said I have to wear eyeglasses.! This was not to be the case we had already discussed this and I said I do not want to wear glasses for close-up vision. Well they argued with me and a lady there named Tina acted like a lawyer and she was reading me my rights, it seemed. I asked her that I would like to speak with Dr. Williamson, and I needed THem to send my paperwork to . Weeks went by Dr. WILLIAMSON never called me. I never received the paperwork and I requested it again and it went on for two months and she didn't call me and she didn't send the paperwork. After not hearing from them in any fashion, I asked them again and Tina was very nasty and acted like I don't know what I'm talking about. After this nothing happened whatsoever and I'm extremely mad and disappointed and had I known this. I would've never had anything done because they did it all wrong. What I told him was as I said before just fought with me and wouldn't do anything about it. Every time I need to read something I have to put on these glasses, which reminded me that this whole procedure failed and I'm not happy whatsoever and they are doing absolutely nothing about it at which case I'm gonna have to take further action if they don't even wanna talk to me or answer a question or give me some other type of solution. We visited this facility for the first time and I cannot tell you how AMAZING the staff was and especially Dr. Marcos Doxanas!!! He actually sat down with us and explained everything to us. He has "Old School Values" which is so rare these days!!! He wrote up my test to forward to my existing doctor with his diagnosis. Highly Recommend!!! Lillian is awesome also!!! STAY AWAY FROM WILMER's Eye Institute, which was horrible- felt like we are shuttled in like cattle and you were just a number with dollar signs instead of a person!!! I'm just glad we found this place from our other eye doctor "Select Eye Care" Elkridge/Towson- Felicia at the Elkridge is amazing and she was the one who referred us to Dr. Marcos Doxanas!!! read more

I went there for a consultation and was thinking about going through with the surgery there. However, as mentioned in previous posts, the billing there is unreal. They aren't up front about costs and they bill for extraordinary things. As this issue came up in just the consultation, I will definitely be looking elsewhere to get the surgery. read more

A complaint letter I sent in with my bill. No one in this office is competent at doing their job. "To whom it may concern, I've been hesitant to pay this bill due to my unhappy experience with Baltimore eye physicians. A friends family member works at this the facility and I chose to make an appointment. when I called I asked the receptionist if my insurance was accepted. Her response was "it's whatever your health insurance is." Very unhelpful and The only response I could get. I work the front desk of a dental office and have to answer this question every day. I make the answer very clear and honest. so as a patient I show up for my scheduled appointment to read signs that say my Davis vision plan (clearly listed on my health insurance card) is not accepted. This is very deceiving. Continuing with my scheduled appointment, I was led back by a young woman who didn't seem very sure of her job. I was eventually informed she was an employees daughter who came to work with her. Having her ask medical questions, I can't imagine this is compliant with HIPPA. I was then seen by the optometrist who was in a frenzy because she dilated someone's eyes and forgot about them. She proceeded to dilate mine without any kind of explanation. Never having this procedure done I was panicked when I couldn't read anything up close. Was then expected to find my way up front. Any kind of warning (when it came to insurance or procedures) would have been helpful. Made my drive home from a place I've never been a little difficult without the capabilities to read my GPS or see where I was going. I now have to pay this bill in full and I will not be retuning nor be referring after this initial visit". read more

The surgery part and the surgeon, Dr. Doxanas were great. Unfortunately, the billing there is horrible. It's quite obvious they bill for extraordinary things. I was in for a consultation and was told for the surgery I was having on my eyelids was covered by insurance but of course I couldn't just have that, I would also need a brow lift to go with it. While I wasn't exactly sure that was true and had the gut feeling I was just being forced to do that additional surgery in order for the office to collect more fees, I went ahead as this was my face, what if? I was told I would only be charged out of pocket for that brow lift which would be $1,000. However, I have now gotten two separate bills after paying the $1,000. One was for over $700 and the other for over $250. Apparently, the actual charges for the $1,000 additional surgery (which was all done at the same time) was also submitted to insurance. Dr. Doxanas's office charged the insurance company/me $2002. FOR EACH EYE as a facility fee. Umm, it's one facility, how are they getting away with charging for each separate eye, done on the same day, in the exact same facility?! Exorbitant fees!!!! On top of that, the co-pays for the "insurance covered" surgery for my eyelids was nowhere near the $1,000 I was informed they would be. The billing staff is either too lazy to call your insurance company to verify fees for the codes they use to charge people, or they just tell you whatever they think will be acceptable to get you in the door and then on the hook for twice the money. I would never recommend anyone I know to have surgery at this office. There are plenty of other board certified surgeons doing the same surgeries without ripping people off. My father has since gone and had the same eyelid surgery I did and was told no, the brow absolutely did NOT need to be done too. Obviously not with Dr. Doxanas's office. I am quite unhappy with their service. Do yourself a favor if you are considering any type of surgery and DON'T both with this center. read more

Whoever is supposed to answer the phones doesn't. Nor do they return phone calls. When I was out of state, I had to get new frames with a year old prescription because BEP wouldn't call me back with my new prescription. The doctor is terrific but the clerical staff is horrible. I will never go back if they don't have the common courtesy to answer the phones and return calls. read more

I was really impressed with the quality of care here. I came to get contacts, having had a great deal of difficulty in the past with finding contacts that fix my vision completely. Dr Leikin did as many follow ups and adjustments as necessary until I had a Rx that was spot on and a comfortable lens. The optical shop also has a really good selection of eye glasses. The place is clean and pleasant, with all the staff being very polite and professional. And the cost of the exam seemed very reasonable- actually not any more than my last one at Costco, with a lot better quality of care. read more
