I am writing this review, two-weeks after receiving SMILE surgery from Dr. Goel, and I could not have asked for a better experience or results. Going into this surgery, I was completely terrified. This wasn't a decision that I made lightly, and this was actually my third attempt at going through with laser eye surgery from initially looking into it 5 years ago. Each time I backed out after reading hundreds of reviews from all over the internet and fixating on the 1% that had a bad experience. But after research of places and surgeons around Baltimore and recommendations from people, I decided to go with Dr. Goel. He had decades of experience and I was told that this, along with his calming and caring demeanor would allow for the best possible experience. And that is exactly what happened. I went in for the consultation and surgery on the same day. The place was modern and clean, the staff was friendly and professional, and Dr. Goel put me at ease about the whole procedure. The actual surgery was so easy and painless, and took less than 10 minutes total. During the drive home (my wife had to drive me) I had some foggy/smokey vision, which was expected, and went home to take the recommended three hour nap (I would plan your appointment time to factor in this nap). When I woke from the nap and immediately noticed a significant change in my vision. It was about 50-75% better. The next day it seemed to be about 90% better, and by the time of my follow up appointment 2 days later I had 20/15 (perfect) vision. To add on to this, my fear never had to do with the surgery itself, but more of the recovery. Most of the common side effects that you typically hear about (dry eyes, halo vision), has been relatively mild. Recovery has been a breeze. One side effect that keeps happening is I keep reaching to take my glasses off here and there to find that there is nothing there. Old habits die hard I guess :) Again, I can't recommend Dr. Goel enough. Doing something like this with your eyes can be very scary. and you want to trust the best. Dr. Goel is the best in the area, in both skill and demeanor, so if you're considering this, go with the best. read more

I had Lasik several years ago and I wanted to find the best Dr. I couldn't tell you how much I appreciated what Dr. Goel did to restore or correct my failing vision. I didn't need glasses until my early 30s and this wasn't something I wanted to live with. I ended up with about 20 pairs of reading glasses all over the house in my car and pairs in my wife's purses. I made it clear she needed a pair in any purse she was carrying that day. I have adhd and lose glasses and simply could not be a slave to this any longer. I'm not a crybaby I just felt like if there's a way to fix this I want it fixed period. Dr. Goel made that a reality. I read some of the negative reviews and i would bet money they didn't follow the post operative instructions given. People are always quick to blame others for their laziness. The minute I got off the operating table Dr. Goel said Mr Harrelson can you tell me the time and i could see the small minute markers on my watch. Simply amazing is all i can say. If you don't have the money save it up and do this. You deserve this procedure absolutely do this and you'll be happy immediately that you did. I traded glasses for a few days of foggy vision, discomfort and dry eyes for about 10 days. Well worth the money and post OP eye drops and medications for no more than 2 weeks. Small price to pay for no glasses needed. By the way one of the best days of my life was gathering up the 22 pairs of glasses I had everywhere and letting my wife donate them. Don't throw away someone would appreciate the donation and it's a ceremonial way of saying goodbye to the hassle of glasses. read more

When I started researching different surgeries I noticed that SMILE had a lot of benefits over PRK and Lasik. But I couldn't find anywhere near DC that did SMILE. Then a friend highly recommended Dr Goel and I noticed that he had a lot of experience with the SMILE procedure (and basically all eye surgeries). The Dr and his staff were extremely kind, flexible, and patient. They carefully explained everything and didn't make me feel pressured to do the surgery at all. Appointments were timely and I never waited more than five minutes to be seen. The surgery itself, I have to say, was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. Seriously - It's not every day you sit beneath a half-million-dollar femtosecond laser. That's not to say I didn't feel anxious walking in, but Dr Goel and his staff talked me through the whole thing and I never once felt nervous or uncomfortable. I barely felt a thing. They even let you pick the music in the operating room. Dr Goel called to check in on my later that evening, and I could already see really well. I had a check up a little over 24 hours after my surgery, and I was easily reaching 20/15 with still more space to improve! I would 10/10 recommend this place. read more

Dr. Goel and his staff provided service par excellence. I am a military aviator, combat athlete, and participate in everything from scuba and skydiving, to bowhunting and night land navigation. My eyes are an essential part of my everyday activities and lifestyle. I was reluctant to get LASIK because of the corneal flap and all of the risks it presents with my lifestyle. I was nearsighted with a severe astigmatism and decided to have LASIK surgery. My boss suggested I see Dr. Goel for the SMILE procedure first as he thought I was likely a good candidate. Dr. Goel examined my eyes, determined I was a good candidate for the SMILE procedure, and just over a week later I had the procedure performed. I was in the office for a recheck 6 days after that and my vision is 20/15. I have never been able to see this well (in my entire life). It's astonishing to me quite frankly. I wish I had had this procedure done sooner. Dr. Goel and his staff are efficient, kind, and reassuring. I cannot express how grateful I am to him and his staff and I cannot recommend him highly enough. My actual surgery appointment was at 10a and I arrived early (because I was nervous) and he saw me early (and did a second complete eye exam to be thorough, which was reassuring to me) and the entire procedure was complete at by 10a. I visited his office on Tue and had the procedure finished Thursday. Dr. Goel and his team are very thorough and professional. It's clear they take their work very seriously. I would highly recommend using Dr Sonny Goel for your Lasik procedure. He offers a very professional and personal experience. His facility is extremely clean and modern with state of the art equipment. I called his office is on a Thursday. I had a virtual consultation with him on Friday. And I went in for the procedure on Tuesday. The very next day I was able to drive myself back in for a follow up appointment. It's been 3 weeks now and my vision is great. Dr. Sonny Goel is fantastic! My lasik procedure only took about 10 minutes. Before the procedure, Dr. Goel explained everything that was going to happen and put my nerves at ease. His team at lasik plus are super professional and helpful. The procedure was completely painless and I only felt pressure for about 1 minute. I was scheduled at 12:40 and was out of the office in an hour. My follow up the next day confirmed my vision overall is now at 20/15!!
