I used to use Precision Auto Repair almost exclusively until I had some front end work done. Not only did they charge me almost double from what another mechanic told me that he would have charged, they sent me back on the road with a dangerous situation. They did not notice that my front right wheel was very loose and could have come off the vehicle while driving. My new mechanic brought my attention to the situation and said that it would have been almost impossible not to notice this, as he showed me that he could wobble the wheel while it was up on a lift. My car had an issue. The mechanic swore up and down he could fix it. I had done business with them before and received good service, so I trusted his word. Two days later, the car broke down again. They wanted to charge me for more repairs and they did not fix the original issue. Intermittent running was what the car had been doing before. I was on my way out of town and my car broke down on the side of the hwy by Colfax. Had my 18 mo old and dog with me. So it was quite a 10 hr ordeal waiting for a tow truck and get a ride back to Reno in 100 degree heat and the smoke. Was recommended here by my friend who rescued me and has taken several vehicles here over the years. He claimed they were reasonable, honest and friendly (such as these other reviewers claim) However I got the COMPLETE opposite! My car was towed in about an hr before closing on Mon. I assumed they wouldn't be able look at it that day and completely understood. I spoke with Laurie who mentioned they were short staffed and were trying to finish up another job and had 'all' of their team working on ONE car, but would call me when they had a chance to diagnose. Ok, no problem. But I ended up calling her mid-day Wed as I hadn't heard anything yet. She sighed and copped an attitude with me and said, Nope. I told you I would call you. -So they haven't had a chance to even look at it yet?- Oh they looked at it and... it needs a new engine. It was overfilled with oil. (Very casually as if it's no big deal) -Ummm what?! A new engine? And overfilled with oil?? And you couldn't bother to call and tell me this?- Well, I've been calling around trying to find an engine for you or a rebuilt, but no one seems to have any in stock, as there is a national shortage right now with your car. I honestly didn't even know how to respond to that as I was completely aback and why she couldn't bother to call me and fill me in??? But I immediately knew if that was in fact the case, I was not going dump that kinda $$ into this vehicle. Yet I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited to see what they could figure out. 2 more days go by and here we are on Friday. I did not call them any more since she was clearly annoyed that I was even following up. Mid-morning I received a msg from my friend to call them. Spoke with Laurie again. She's like I'm just wondering what you want to do... yada yada yada. I told her no, I'm not dumping $8000+ into this car. (This could've been asked and settled in the second conversation I had with her) I asked if it was drivable and going to get a second opinion. Said that's fine and you have the right to do so. Then puts me on hold and Jim (the owner picks up). Awkward exchange at first. I remained fairly calm, simply questioning the diagnosis bc it just doesn't add up. And their stories kept switching. The tow truck driver mentioned to us that it was out of oil. I knew I was over my oil change by 1000 miles. But even I know that's not going to completely burn it all up. And here they are telling me one minute that it was overfilled with oil then no oil the second. So which is it??? We started to go round and round and he was increasingly angrier with every passing sentence. Basically tells me not to question his 40 yrs experience, doesn't care what the tow truck driver said/he's just a tow truck driver, I owe them for a diag and need to remove the vehicle from their facility. TODAY! He has limited space and is not a storage yard. And any days the vehicle was left there past today would incur $55/day. What in the actual F??! I NEVER once said I wouldn't pay them. I did not accuse or blame them of anything. And never said it was going to sit there for days or weeks on end. Only simply asking questions as I have the RIGHT to do. You literally just dropped this bomb on me with an $8k+ estimate and expect me to figure something out right NOW? Considering this is a MAJOR issue and I'm out thousands of dollars by scraping it! The least you can do is give me an effing minute to figure out my next move. All this over $124.62. Really?! It's not like I racked up thousands of dollars and several hrs of work was put into it! Again- for Laurie to waste HER time calling around and for my car sitting at your shop for 2 extra days - Is YOUR problem. NOT mine. Not too mention you are closed on Sat/Sun. So why would it even matter if it sits much past today??! I'd have something figured out by Mon. (I did ultimately find a respectable and empathetic business to tow me out today. And Jim was even rude to them and refused to let it leave without being paid!) I sure hope all that unnecessary uproar and any future business lost because of this review and anyone else I share this experience with, was worth it! Hope you feel better for taking your aggression out on a new customer. A single mom with a baby, now without a vehicle. After 40 yrs, sounds like you're a little burnt out and might want to consider retiring. I have NEVER been treated this horribly in any customer service situation. Absolutely unacceptable, unnecessary and easily avoidable!! The conversation you had with me, should've been directed at Laurie. Not me! As she apparently lacks professionalism, common courtesy and common sense (much like you!) And she's the one wasting your time, money and space! read more

My daughter's car died on the street and we were able to push it into the parking lot at Precision Auto Center. It had a parasitic electrical problem which no one could figure out. The owner dropped what he was doing and spent more than half an hour figuring out what was wrong. He figured it out and fixed it. When I tried to pay him for his time, he told me not to worry about it. I recently read a review from RACHEL S..It couldn't be more inaccurate. Jim and his tech Luke are TOP NOTCH. There is no cutting corners, when installing a hub, there are no corners to cut in the first place. What we as consumers often fail to realize, is that things happen..sometimes you get a bad part and you don't know its bad until it breaks..What defines a great shop is the shop that will stand behind their work.. Jim and team were never given that opportunity. Had they been, it would have been smooth as glass, especially considering they.offer a nationwide warranty..yup..coast to coast,,and they have road side assistance, Very simple fix for a very simple problem. Being a female college student, and living away from my father, I honestly don't know very much about cars and whenever something happens to my car it's a very stressful event. The first time my car broke down and I took it there it was because I needed a new fuel pump. Knowing that I didn't know very much about cars, they explained it really simply and in normal person terms and also explained to me that usually the part is really expensive from the dealer, but that they were going to search for one that wasn't as expensive. There were also some leaks coming from my radiator and they sealed them up with some goo stuff free of cost. I really appreciated that they understood I didn't know much and that they took the time to explain everything to me. Jack is the man!!!!! I brought in my 02 eclipse that some suspension problems. I had no idea what was wrong with it only that it was burning through tire way to fast. Tires would only last me 4 months. I took it in and jack was very polite and helpful he lifted the car, inspected, and showed me what the problem was. Most shops won't do that. And he was patient. I work and have school as well so time was a bit tight most of the conversation we had were over the phone. And once I picked up the car it drove like new. I came in with a flat tire on a Thursday and was planning on heading back home to California that weekend so I was understandably bummed out and had no idea what to do. He claims to have been a mechanic at the ford dealership which explains his high prices but he failed to know that he needed two specialty tools for my truck. Which he didnt have and had to order. If you go here be prepared for an arrogant, I know everything type that will talk your ear off about how great he is. Although Jim is a very nice person, I experienced less than satisfactory work on my car. The mechanic employed there that DID do the work on my car cut corners and overall did a very shoddy job. I was charged a very reasonable price for all the work done, however, it was unsatisfactory. Three months after having my bearings and seals replaced on my right front wheel, my car started making horrific grinding noises. My dad took my wheel off and discovered that a wrong sized cotter pin had been used to hold things together and none of my bearings had been greased causing some problems. In addition so this, the bolts weren't tightened correctly. As a result, the seals were shredded and my wheel would have fallen off had I drove it on the freeway again. Because I did not feel comfortable taking my car back to Precision Auto to have the work redone, I instead asked for a refund. Jim was very understanding and gave me a full refund for both parts and labor which I appreciated very much. Overall, I did not have a good experience with this company, but I suspect it has more to do with lazy employees rather than how Jim prefers to run his shop. read more
