Took my wife's honda odyssey to Mike's automotive to get the alternator remounted because one of the bolts snapped off. I then asked Mike to call me when the vehicle was finished 2 hours later no call this should have taken less than 1 hour for an experienced mechanic. So I just drove there and what do you know the van was done and parked out in front who knows how long it was there for. When I walked in he looked surprised and said oh I was just about to call you we just finished. So I got overcharged on 2 hours of labor.Mike and his mechanics are dishonest people come here if you want to get ripped off. read more

My car kept dying and the things that should have been wrong were not causing the problem. Even after I got upset they went the extra mile and discovered the problem. It was due to something I had done. The mechanic sat in my car for 10 minutes until they realized what was draining my battery. They didn't charge me anything extra and were just all around great. I had to find an Uber home because I was never told I would have to leave my car for the day. I have a junker. It's all mine. I work on it all the time. I'm ok with that. It's not about status for me. There was an issue that was (and is) outside of my scope (thanks to NV/CA DMV). Anyway, these guys helped me identify the issue and gave me a diagnosis with an accurate quote. Would be five stars but they forgot to return my original smog documents that I required for a registration exemption so I had to return after hours. Other than that snag excellent service. Would not recommend to anyone. Took in my 74 pickup with a list of items. Did not expect it the next day, but within a reasonable amount of time. It sat there for 5 weeks at which time we found out that nothing had been done. When I called Mike for a status update 3 weeks after dropping it off he told me that some things had been done, so he outright lied to me! Do not trust this shop! read more

Update: My car is back to the same, if not worse condition from Mike's Automotive less than 90 days later. Seeing that I am still within the 90 day warranty, we called the shop to see what we could do. The shop couldn't guarantee their work and refused to work on the car due to our "attitude" during the original interaction with them. I am appalled and will be taking this to small claims court. What a shame, especially for such a small shop. Sorry you couldn't handle this as adults, I am sorry to know Mike Wade and Charlie Scott. Please do not bring them business unless you enjoy lawsuits. read more

I changed the axel myself in my Honda Accord, now because I don't have a impact wrench I sent my wife the next day to this shop. I asked to have all the bolts and nuts tighten with their impact just to double check on my work. She came back and said that all was done. The next day I take the car and run a few a errands and I come to my very last stop and in the parking lot ...... I loose steering control !!!!!!!!! I get under the car and find out the steering Collin control arm was out of the knuckle !!!! I was beyond upset - I JUST HAD THIS DONE YESTERDAY ! So I was able to get the steering control arm back in place and and drove 1/4 a mile speed until making it to auto zone in Lemmon valley after an 30 minutes after looking for the correct bolt.... I made it home. 5 minutes before this happened .... I was on the highway doing 80 - THINKING This shop did what I asked them to do !! Because of this ...... I could have lost control on the highway and crashed & died. They didn't pay attention ....... I could have died - anything else I need to say ? read more

Tightened my serp belt so hard it was smoking and blew my water pump 2 days later.Also I didn't go in for this, he just felt the need to take my belt off and go into the water pump in my car. I just needed a new distributer, but he openly told me he took it apart and that I should have never drove my car over 70 mph after he worked on it. We bought a 2005 Ford Explorer for our teenage son. Unfortunately it was the year that had issues with the plastic timing chain guides breaking. My older sons started in fixing it, but we needed a tool. Mike LOANED us that tool. Once all the parts were fixed I wanted to make sure there we NO plastic pieces left inside to ruin the engine. My sons didn't want to take on the job of dropping the oil pan themselves, so my husband called Mikes made an appointment. When I went in to drop off the Explorer I spoke with Mike and he was so nice he said no you don't need to pay for that expensive of a job. I can achieve the same results by doing something else and save you $300. Now that's a businessman with Integrity. We are a Ford family and we will continue to use Mike's Automotive. read more

We got a flat tire the other day. We had an extra tire but needed to get into placed into the wheel. I called Mike's at close to closing time and they were so nice! They said, "Get it here in about the next 15mins and we will take care if it." We hustled over there and they stopped what they were working on and got us out the door so quickly. They were so friendly and so fast, definitely recommend trying them out if you live in the area, they saved us a drive into town and we probably would have had to wait until the next day since it was close to closing. I used Mike's Automotive last year to replace my engine. They did an outstanding job at that time. This last week is a complete different story. While driving my transmission dropped from 4th gear to 1st gear. We did what we needed to do to limp it back home to Reno from Truckee. I took my car to Mike's and explain the problem and there were no check engine light on. After waiting 7 hours we finally got an answer. He stated that the transmission need to be replaced. When we asked how he figured that out, he stated that he hooked up his code reader and ran the codes. I didn't think anything of it until I got home and realized the check engine light was still off. How you do get codes when the check engine light is not on? We hooked up out personal code reader when we got home and received no codes. I decided to get a second opinion. I took it to another automotive shop (Pro 1 Automotive) and they ran their testing and found out the transmission was in fine but the alternator need replacing. If we would have done what Mike's have said we would be out $3000 and still have a car not working. After this experience it makes me wonder if I needed the engine replaced at all. read more

We have used this shop EXCLUSIVELY for the past 10 years. We only buy used cars, so finding a great mechanic is critical for us and our budget. They address our needs EVERY time, sometimes right away ( smog checks, tire repairs), more extensive repairs (engine/transmission rebuild) might take a day or 2, but they ALWAYS keep us informed on schedule and cost. Most importantly, they tell us what is absolutely needed to be repaired now, and what can wait but will need to be repaired in the future. That is what we call a PERFECT mechanic. Took our truck there because the check engine light had been on , it wouldn't pass smog and we had 3 months to register it, he said he could fix it for a fee between 900.00 -1000.00 , he had the truck for the entire 3 months, never called, we called , stopped by several times, he just kept saying he would get to it, we left it with a full tank& on one visit had to put gas in it cuz the tank was empty, if he puts gas in he charges 6.00 a gallon, plus it had been driven about 50 miles, the day before it was due to be registered he called and said he worked on it all day and he couldn't fix it! Come get your truck! & yep , we paid a 1000.00 for it..ended up selling the truck after paying a fine to the dmv! I wouldn't trust them to change my tire! read more

I have a BMW 232i and it was leaking radiator fluid =(in the past i had a broken water pump so i knew it wasnt the water pump. i decided to take my car to mike because he was able to take a look at my car the same day i called. He ran some tests on it and found that it was a cracked radiator =( Mike had my car up and running the same day and gave me advice on how to keep my car running smooth and what i should do and check for so i dont have these problems again in the near future. I called all around after i found out i needed a new radiator and the price Mike charged me ended up being cheaper than the other places in the area!! when the job was finished the cost ended up being 10$ cheaper than quoted and he fixed some other leaky parts of my cooling system!! I noticed a screw in the center of the tread in my tire. I called the evening prior and was told they open at 8:00 am and it would be $15 to repair. I showed up at 8:05 am the next day. While walking towards the office door a gentleman whom was wrenching on a pickup just like mine asked if he could help me. I explained that I had called prior and explained what I was there for. He wanted to know who told me to come in for this. I wasn't sure who I had talked to on the phone. He also explained I would have to leave my vehicle there. He did recommend some restaurants while I waited. He asked what type of vehicle the tire was on. My reply was "this one right here". This seemed like an appropriate reply because of the fact that my pickup was parked approximately 15 ft from the gentleman and in clear view. He explained that he asked me the type of vehicle because he was currently busy working on a vehicle. I quietly wondered why he had asked me if he could help me if he was so encumbered. I believe he could have turned his head to the right to solve this difficult time consuming problem. He explained where he wanted me to park. I said OK. I politely returned to my vehicle and drove away. This is one of the closest auto repair facilities to my residence. I would have most likely used them for future repairs. I am assuming that this gentleman was an employee. Regardless, his actions and demeanor directly reflect on the owner. I understand this was a small repair with minimal profit. read more

I was forced to use this shop because I was stuck in the valley. I arrived and the mechanic was nasty and unfriendly. He told the tow truck driver he didn't care where the car was placed because he didn't care what happened to it. He told me it would take three working days to even look at the car and had me hastily fill out a form. He didn't give me a copy and didn't quote any price. After three days I contacted them again and they told me the engine had to be rebuilt. I paid for the tow truck to come back and move the car to another shop. The form that I filled out now had a fee for 95 dollars for the inspection. I took my car to the other shop and they found that the distributor cap had to be replaced and that the engine was fine. They didn't do any inspection on the car or their inspection was so incompetent that they diagnosed the problem completely wrong. I don't trust this shop and will never use them again. read more
