I came here based on the yelp reviews. I was initially greeted in the parking lot and was very impressed how friendly and courteous the gentleman was. I needed the rear suspension on my bike tuned and, even after being told it would take a little longer and cost a little more because of an issue, I didn't even hesitate to approve the work nor question the price. I even met the techs working on my bike and everyone seemed very nice there. In the future, I'm planning to upgrade my front suspension and will need that tuned as well. I already had a set up in mind but Bill, the owner, gave me a different optionm that is more cost efficient. He explained to me the reasoning behind his suggestion and asked me if I wanted him to write up an estimate. I was happy that he offered another route that I could take and gave me an estimate without "selling" it to me. I will definitely be back. read more

I'm from Orange County and when I got a flat in Escondido area after Palomar it left me nearly stranded on a Saturday around 2PM. We managed to patch it but it was temporary because I had caught a scissor in my tired that managed to slice it. This made it questionable whether the bike was safe to ride back to Orange County or if I should get it plugged or even replaced. I called a few shops and none of them would even consider plugging it, regardless of the type of cut. Luckily I found Poway, 13 miles from my incident, and they were very friendly and offered to take a look at the tire and see if it's safe to plug. Unfortunately it wasn't safe to plug due to the fact that it had sliced the tire, but they managed to sell me a set mildly used Q2's for under $170.00 installed. I really liked their service, they had very good customer service and seemed to be a group of enthusiast mechanics. I've gotten a flat tire half the time I've managed to visit SD, so I'm hoping that I won't, but if I do, Poway Motorcycle is where I'll be visiting. Thanks for your excellent service and help. I am so lucky to have found this place. I have a Ninja 650, which is the second bike I've owned in 20 years. My first bike was bought back on the east coast, and I always returned to the dealership there, with good results. Being relatively new to SD, as well as a female, I just wasn't sure where I could go for service without risking being taken advantage of. (I am the type who just turns the key and hopes it goes!). Anyway, I've been going here regularly for the last four or five years for springtime servicing, and I have never felt taken advantage of or lead astray. Pricing is more than fair, and the guys are always very respectful and helpful. It's good to see that there are still old school shops run with integrity! read more

I've got to say, I checked on this shop via yelp and called around looking for simple work that I couldn't do at home. That being said these guys took good care of my needs at an affordable price! I only needed a mount and balance on some new tires for my Street Glide®. Unfortunately the weights didn't stay on the wheels. Bill the owner and his team here had me come back and we tagged teamed it to do it again, and get it back together and on the road in less than an hour. I have done business with Bill and Bud a couple of times in the past couple of years. I had the rear brakes done along with a tire change about two years ago and they explained what caused my rear brake failure while I was riding in Borrego. It helped me change my riding style and instead of going through rear brake pads in 23K miles I have had these on for over 40K and still no sign of needing a change. I try to do all my own work to keep costs down but if I needed major help I would definately take it here. I believe all the other 4 and 5 star ratings speak for themselves about Bill and Bud's honesty and integrity in business. Keep up the good work guys, I hope to never have to use you for more than tire changes and good stories but it is good to know I have somewhere to go when I need work I cannot perform. I might add that I had them spoon on a new set of PR3s for me and they did an excellent job of protecting my bike and the work was done quickly and efficiently. I ran over a nail on the rear not a week later and they were quick to help me get that patched and get me back on the road. They helped to take care of yet another myth that you have to replace the tire if you run over a nail because you don't want to run on a patch or plug. I inquired on their website about possibly some suspension kits with installation for our 2 new 2013 ninjas. Bill called me this morning and helped me through the process. He is very professional, very knowledgable and helpful. Motorcycles being a new hobby to me, he took 20 minutes and explained so much to me over the phone about my best options with the suspension. My SV1000 with 1800 miles got it's first oil change and maintenance check 5 years ago with Poway Motorcycle. Today, now at 60K with Bill and Bud looking after the bike every 3-5k, it's running like a top! If your a dealer and going to Poway Motorcycle and TRY to have them to do shabby work for you " re-use old fork oil " and then get all bent out of shape when they want you to spend $15 for new fork oil...And you say hey I need to make a profit??? I feel bad for the people you sell bikes to because it seems you only do what it takes to get something working and then pawn it off on someone. I recently just got my bike back and I can assure you that the guys here are very trust worthy! My 2015 Yamaha r6 had a dead cylinder and bad valves so I brought it in knowing none of this but within the first 30 minutes they found the problem. I got frequent calls to notify me about how far along they are and if any other problems came up. I also called them frequently and bill wasn't hesitant to answer any of the questions I had. It was a long job ( about 2 months) due to the cost of a big fix like this but I got my money's worth and my baby feels like a brand new bike again! With any other problems anyone has i can say that bill and his mechanic know what they are doing and their hourly cost is worth the quality they put in. read more

Took my 94 R100GS in for some suspension TLC. I love this bike, but clearly it had been drifting slowly through the years towards the sloppy side. I turned it over to Bill and his guys at Poway Motorcycle because, well, they were clearly bike guys. I was more than a little surprised when I picked up the bike. Clearly they took great care in researching and selecting the perfect suspension components. RaceTech up front and Olin in the rear. They serviced and replaced everything that needed help and nothing that didn't. The bike is riding like a dream. The results are the review. Poway Motorcycle is a thoughtful and friendly shop. Bill and Bud are my heroes!! I haven't taken my bikes anywhere else in the last 8 years or so; and as long as they're still wrenchin' then I never WILL go anywhere else! I ride a LOT. One of my bikes (the one in the story below) has 138,000 miles in the last 5 years, and they do ALL the work on it. I already would have rated them 7 stars out of 5 (I have duplicate stories to most of the 5 star ratings below), but I just have to tell you this latest and greatest example... Last Sunday, July 15 2012, I was involved in an accident. An old lady turned left across my lane, and I wasn't able to swerve quite far enough to miss her. Although I didn't go down and wasn't hurt myself, my Kawasaki Concours 14 suffered about $2000 in damage. I called the shop and left a message, knowing that they're closed Sundays and Mondays but figuring they'd get the message first thing Tuesday morning. Bill called me back a couple hours later and had me bring the bike in the next day, a day they're CLOSED, so we could get a jump on getting it fixed. You see, the boys close the shop and take a vacation every year to the MotoGP race at Laguna Seca; and Saturday the 21st is when they leave this year. Additionally, MY several thousand mile road trip/vacation starts next Wednesday the 25th. Talk about needing to hurry! Bill helped me figure out what was needed, rush ordered the parts, and even helped me deal with my insurance company to get them to hurry too! As of yesterday afternoon, Thursday the 19th, I have my bike back as good as ever. That's FOUR DAYS turnaround on something that normally could have taken weeks! That's GOT to be some kind of record. My vacation is saved and I couldn't possibly be any happier!!! I think let's bump that rating to 10 stars out of 5. :) read more

These guys are hands down the best. I've had experience with plenty of different dealerships. North County HOM, FBC, ECC, Hypersports, etc... None come close to providing the level of customer service and expertise that Bill & Bud can. Not only are they true professionals, they have an enormous wealth of knowledge that they are happy and eager to share with you. They won't upsell you anything you don't need, they charge a fair price, and they are never short with you. My most recent experience (April '10) I brought my new 2007 R6 in to have the suspension tuned. I showed up late in the afternoon, and Bill & Bud were happy to accommodate me, and stick around after their normal closing time to setup my bike. They answered all my questions (including the stupid ones), and took the time to explain what they were doing, and why. We had my husband's brand new motorcycle hit recently and brought it to this place due to all the amazing reviews. They have literally sat down and walked us through everything that needed a repair. I've always been very happy with Poway Motorcycle. With the exception of my very first service since moving to San Diego, my bike has always gone to Bill & Bud for any work required. So far all of the services and transactions have been smooth and pain-free. There have been a couple of occasions where I took the bike in for odd sounds or an issue starting, and each time it came back where they couldn't find anything wrong. They could have easily done what other mechanics do and just "find something" and charge the customer for it, but they don't. I can't say whether or not their prices are the cheapest or most expensive, but I'd like to think the prices are fair. They always quote you for the work that needs to be done, and the quote doesn't yo-yo in price once they start working on it. Bill and Bud always answer my questions thoroughly and patiently. I met these guys at a race track where they tend to spend time every now and then. They gave me precious hints how to ride faster and setup my bike better. (I'm a rookie what comes to riding fast....) I figured out that next time I have a problem with my bike I should turn to them instead of overcharging, rude, incompetent san diego dealers. I brought my -01 FZ1 Yamaha in for suspension tuning and geometry modification. They also fine tuned my carbs after I messed them up.... The job was very well done! I couldn't believe how much better handling my bike was afterwards. Under steering and lack of spring preload were gone. Damping worked amazingly well and bike is like glued to road when cornering. Carbs adjustment gave more low end torque, Bud said my bike was running way too rich. The guys have an extreme knowledge and skills. Most probably because of the racing background. They are honest and want you to know how to setup and service your bike to gain the maximum lifetime and reliability. job well done,thanks bud, bill, dave. see you at the track! read more

Stellar experience, especially after my recent crappy experience at Fun Bike. I rolled up unannounced with a nail in my rear tire. They stopped eating lunch, recommended a new tire and got me back on the road fast. By the time I walked across the street and had a pulled pork sandwich, they were done. Note that they are closed Sunday and Monday. Hours are on their website, but not on Yelp yet. Note that it's not easy to spot this place from the street. Their sign isn't very large and they're behind a smog check place. Don't give up if you don't see it at first. read more

I like to do most the work on my vehicles myself, but it's so nice to have a shop like this in my backyard for when things go sideways. Case in point, just the other day I was doing a basic oil change on my bike and managed to rip the threads for the drain bolt out of the oil pan (I basically had a gigantic brain fart and tried to TIGHTEN the drain bolt out of the pan). To make matters worse, this was just a week and a half before a full weekend of track riding at Spring Mountain that I had been planning for MONTHS. Thankfully, there's Poway Motorcycle. Bud was able to helicoil the pan while still on the bike, which was NOT an easy task since the optimal tool wasn't available in time. He fabbed up his own tool, got the job done, and saved the day. The bike runs flawlessly (no leaks), and they saved my track weekend. I may or may not be done working on this bike myself, but when it comes time to hand it to the pros, these are my 'go to' guys. I feel very fortunate to know motorcycle mechanics as talented as Bill and Bud. About two months ago, they oversaw the restoration of a 1992 Honda Nighthawk that I cherish to near showroom floor condition. They made sure the new paint job was as near stock as possible, and they gave the engine a thorough tune up. The bike rode like a charm on a recent Big Sur/Yosemite ride I took up to Northern Cali. It's not just that these guys are great at what they do, but it's also how they make a real effort to do jobs economically. They found an installed a used front alloy rim in excellent condition for only a couple hundred. Once they managed to cheaply fabricate a small part for a clutch that was proving difficult to find. I have been a customer of Poway Motorcycle for over 15 years. Bill and Bud have worked on both my street and track bikes. Their quality of work and service is exceptional and they always seem to go above and beyond. I have spent countless hours draining Bill of his knowledge and he wouldn't consider taking money for it. In fact, he often talks me out of work because "it's just not necessary Frank" (I'm pretty picky about my bikes). If that isn't and example of complete honesty and integrity, I don't know what is. I went to Bill and Bud on a year+ rebuild project and wish I never had. In terms of price and quality, they charge $90 an hour for labor, which is among the highest in the county, and longer than normal for certain activities such as wiring. After it was all said and done, the bike failed within 4 months on an injector pump that they should have caught. Now I'm replacing cylinders. Nice guys, fun stories, take your business elsewhere. read more

If you are new to motorcycling or not very knowledgeable about motorcycle repairs, get another opinion/diagnosis at a dealer or other service shop and compare what they tell you. Being a new and concerned rider, I heard a rattling sound while cruising and brought it in to be checked out. I already had established, what I thought, was an honest and trusting relationship with them. My engine was dismantled, on a Suzuki Cruiser , with less than 2500 miles and was told that the 'dog output cam,' deep in the engine, had failed and was shown a blurry and indistinguishable picture on a borescope. The costs to repair...over $2500.00 dollars and the scare tactic, that catastrophic failure might occur while I'm riding. I ended up taking the bike back, in parts, after several hundred dollars spent and took it to an industry expert who put the bike back together, after checking out the 'dog output cam,' which was in immaculate shape, as it should have been. The real diagnosis...a highway peg that was loose and vibrating against the crash bar! I had pictures to prove the bogus diagnosis and called Bill and Bud out on it...they could have really cared less. Too bad, because I am loyal to mechanics and service providers and the best I can do is take my business elsewhere and not recommend them read more

DISGUSTED. I ordered a tire online for my harley and since i live 1.5 miles away from Bills business i wanted to keep it local and support the smaller shops that are still fighting against the bigger places and bigger names. Ok i called at 1pm for 2 quotes, he shot me an answer for both, then said "im with a customer and actually going to lunch so i will call you at 1pm". My watch said 1220. Alright no problem, enjoy your lunch. Fast forward to 140pm. No call or anything. I call him and say who it is and asked about the appt. His response " hey david i just finished with lunch and was about to call you, i have 3 people in front of you to get to and then ill call you back" i answered him honestly and not disrespectfully even though i wanted to, i said "dont waste your time its ok,take care bud" I was outside pulling my bike out to go to harley and saw my neighbor who recommended he to him, I told him the story and his response was "yeah bill is a lazy guy, he doesnt work too hard" my thoughts are, if you run or work for a business be professional. Apparently Bill doesnt need to work or want to work to hard because buisness is booming or he is lazy. I dont know the man but know people who do, they say he is nice but lazy. Ive dropped 3k into this bike since last week to get her customed and tuned up, i wished i could have went local but he doesnt need the money. Unprofessional read more

I tried calling here on 2 different bikes for the 600 mile service, which is recommended for warranty by manufacturer. Both times, the guy who answered took my number and told he would call me back, that he was in the middle of something. Never heard back from him either time. I guess ill have to support the local dealerships from now on. At least they want your business. read more
