Nothing but great things to say about Poway Motorcycle. I recently took my 2021 Yamaha Tracer to them to install some Denali aux lights and controller. Bill was always prompt and professional in returning calls and providing updates. It turned out to be a more challenging task that required a bit of exploration on their part and all of their findings were verified by Denali. Confidence goes a long way when folks are touching sensitive parts of your bike and these guys inspired it. Always forthcoming with where they stood on the project. This was my first time here. I contacted Bud about getting my new MT-10 suspension dialed in for me. Even though I requested a midday appt, they still got me in within days. Upon arriving - things just couldnt have been easier. I was greeted by both Bill and Bud who were ready for me early. The bike immediately went in and Bud didnt take long getting it right. Thankfully the stock springs can handle my heft, but it was close. Honest advice, no upsale. The service didnt stop there. Once the bike was done (thanks Bud) I was able to ask questions and get tag-team answers from these guys who know. Thats worth a lot imo. I was told about my stock suspensions limits and then the upgrade paths available once I outgrow this setup. Came here for an inspection, paid $50. My left turn signal was not working, They charged me an additional $10 to diagnose the problem and told me it was a wiring issue and I needed a new socket for the rear turn signal which they were going to charge close to $100 for parts and labor. When I came home, I thought to just check it out for myself, turns out one of the wires was not connected, ALL I HAD TO DO IS CONNECT THE DAMN WIRE. Being not 100% sure, I ended up taking the right one off just to see how that is connected. All in all took me less than 5 minutes to troubleshoot and fix the issue while saving myself another trip to the shop and $100. I hope this review gives you insight about what type of people are running that shop and who will be working on your bike. I wouldn't let these guys come anywhere near my bike ever again. They told me I had oil leak on my fork seals, now I am wondering if they rubbed some oil on there just so I they can try to make more money from me. Scam artists. Bill and the other dude. Not trustworthy, avoid this place, they will take advantage of you, especially if you are a new rider and don't know bikes very well. SCREW THESE GUYS!!! read more

Took my Yamaha R1 to Poway Motorcycle this past weekend for a basic tuneup (brake fluid, oil, chain, etc) and I believe it was Bud that did the work. He invited me back to watch and explain things about my bike that I never knew. I had a nail in my relatively new rear tire and unfortunately it was beyond repair, bud Bud and Bill found a similar tire in their inventory and installed it for me while explaining the different type of tires and what would be best for my style of riding which is a combination of daily commuting and spirited weekend rides. Bud also hooked me up with a couple of spare Zeus fittings and a shoe protector (heater hose) for my shifter. I would recommend these guys a hundred times over again and will be using them for all of my motorcycle needs in the future. It's nice to have a trustworthy local shop in the same town that I grew up in. read more

I've had a long history w/ P.M. In short Bud the mechanic is great Bill the owner is, well, ahummm. The straw that broke the camels back was taking my Vstrom in for clutch slippage. Bill quoted for a new clutch $1000++. I balked on the price of parts then started doing some research on forums. I found the problem not to be the clutch but dirt and rocks impacted around the clutch push rod / slave cylinder. Quite a few hours of my time pulling clutch cover to find plates in good condition and cleaning up the clutch rod and all was good. The dirt obstructing the push rod is a well known fact and should have been discussed before ordering parts. Bill did refund my parts after some heated discussion on the day I ordered. Before, Bill's parts guy ordered the wrong Rotor. I was out considerable $$$ as it was shipped to Costa Rica. I was able to return the part upon return. But was out shipping and more time being stuck in C.R. Before that I took bike in for service. They couldn't get the seat to release with the key. They were the last ones to take the seat of just days before. After 3 hours of work to remove seat Bud found a small piece ( block ) of plastic preventing the seat release cable from operating. Even though they were the last ones to have the seat off I had to pay for the 3 hours to get seat off. Bill is very grouchy & greedy. Good thing he has Bud to work on bikes and with customers or his business would be in serious jeopardy. read more

Labor rates are great, and many of the smaller jobs I've had done have taken 30 minutes or less. Even major valve adjustments and services were done promptly and without delay. These guys are awesome! I brought my motorcycle to Poway Motorcycle for a new rear tire, and it was done in half an hour after I signed the work order. My sv650s is my first motorcycle, so one can imagine that I absolutely love it as a man a third testicle or a woman a third ovary with enough eggs for a lifetime. Simply put, nothing but the BEST for my third testicle. After a little research online, I decided that I wanted a multi-compound tire for the twisties. I arrived at the shop with my best effort to cover up my 4 month newb stench. However, Bill - a self-proclaimed - "motorcycle-nerd" who services a lot of track day bikes (and has ridden track days himself) noticed the 1.5cm "chicken strips" on my rear tire. For the sake of my safety, he candidly and tactfully convinced me to go with a rear tire with a compound that matches the front. Those of you who wonder why: the extra traction on the rear tire would make turns appear to feel better than the front tire's traction limit would allow. Honestly, I haven't ridden enough to read the feedback at the level that would allow me to use the added benefit of triple-compound tires. This is the first servicing experience I've had for my bike so I'll give you the invoice and let you compare: BT021 REAR - 118.95$ Service - 0.5 hr at 71$/hr - $35.50 Recycle/environmental fee - $4.95 Tax - $9.22 Total - $168.62 In summary, Bridgestone BT-021 are the best for my bike (for now). Also, I would recommend this service shop for riders of ALL levels - from track day racers to newbs like me. By the way, Coney Island Pizza serves some really good NY style pizza at 2 slices + soda for $5.50 across the street. Friendly service, too! read more

This place is awesome. I bought a repo 1978 Honda CB 750 a few months ago. It ran for about a week or two with a little difficulty. Then it kind of crapped out on me. I brought it into Poway Motorcycle and they did a great job fixing it. I'm confident that they gave me great service at a fair price. It took a little while but was worth the wait. Every other shop had a wait too and these guys were honest about a repair schedule. They are busy because they are good and people want to bring their bikes here. I got to deal with the same two guys (Bill and I can't remember the mechanics name) each time and they were always very helpful and friendly. I never got the condescending vibe that the guy above is talking about. It seems like he went in their with his head up his A** to begin with but what do I know. Regardless. I will keep taking my bike to this place as long as I'm in San Diego. Even after I left their shop they've been super helpful with all my questions about changing the oil, and a blown fuse, etc. Great service! 5 stars! read more

In the interest of full disclosure I have to say that I have never used any of their services. They are near my house and prefer to use local businesses when possible, even if the price is slightly higher. That being said, I went in to get an estimate to have my front suspension re-sprung and valved. It took them 4 weeks to email the estimate. By then I had already ordered the parts and started the rebuild myself. When I realized I was in over my head with the valving I called Poway Motorcycles to get them to finish it up. The guy was very unprofessional and rude. His knowledge is spot on but he was very condescending. I usually do my own work on all my vehicles and have farmed out very little work. On the occasions that I have the technicians (mechanics) were very helpful and knowledgeable without acting superior. I am positive the work would be good if you can handle the attitude. read more

Once upon Tuesday morning two bad ass motorcycle chicks decided to take a ride up to the quaint little town of Julian. Upon their trusty metal steeds; Pearl & Freedom they started their journey. Riding like the wind passing through the town of Pow-way. Almost out of town the ladies stopped in the shade to check some things... When all of a sudden Freedom starting hemorrhaging coolant all over the steaming asphalt! Oh no! The ladies cried; quickly they checked Freedom out. Yup they exclaimed, it's the coolant, and we can't ride to Julian on a hot day without it! Pulling out the trusty Yelp app the search started for motorcycle shops. The first place was down the street.. they quickly rode to it only to find an empty store front. Ugh. On to the next place? Hopefully! Speeding over to Poway Motorcycle (getting slightly lost on the way; tough place to find) they hit the jack pot; it's open! The ladies were quickly greeted by the mechanic in shiny armor Bud. He asked us questions about what happened and evaluated Freedom. Soon the Ninja 250 was up on the stand and being taken apart. Bud replaced the coolant cap and coolant and gave us some awesome tips about iver heating. He only charged 15$!! While we waited the front desk guy shared his Red Vines; and apologized for the dirty bathroom. It was surprisingly clean though ;-) They made sure we were ok and told us to come back if we needed anything else. We were soon back on our journey. Needless to say this shop saved us; it's a great place and friendly staff. I will be taking my bike here for anything I need in the future. Thanks so much guys! read more

After a bad experience with Lee's Cycle Service, these guys were a breath of fresh air. They were very friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. To make a long story short, Lee's screwed up by forgetting to put a part back when they worked on my suspension. Bill and Bud at Poway discovered the problem and fixed it while providing a thorough explanation of what needed to be done. It's difficult finding a good auto or motorcycle mechanic but I've always been willing to drive a little further for somebody that I trust. These guys are definitely worth the drive for me (about 30 mins from North Park where I live). read more

These guys know their stuff! I've used them a couple times. They are very friendly and willing to answer all your questions. The only down side is that their rates are higher than most. I think it's $90/hr vs the standard $65/hr. But you definitely get what you pay for in this case! They do top notch work. The end result is always as promised, no BS here. I recently dusted off an old 1975 Suzuki TC100, probably hadn't run in 15+ years, and despite a lot of coaxing (and kicking the kick start) it was not about to run. I attempted the easy things myself, like cleaning out the carb, blowing out fuel lines, etc, but no luck. So before I spent more time and money "restoring" this old bike I wanted a pro mechanic to look at the engine and see what kind of shape it is in, and how much it would cost to get it running. I called Poway Motorcycle after doing a Google search for shops in my area. The owner Bill told me his philosophy on old bikes, which was exactly the same as mine, see if the engine will run before doing anything else. He quoted me two hours labor to do a thorough engine check, open it up and check seals, pumps, carb, compression, etc. He said after that two hours he'll have a good idea of whether it would be worth fixing or to just call it quits. Exactly as promised he came back with an estimate based on exactly what he and Bud (the other mechanic) uncovered during their diagnosis. I was impressed with the accuracy of the estimate because I knew searching around for parts availability and pricing for an old bike is not an easy task. The cost was also lower than I was expecting. Fast forward. Bill said it would take about three weeks to get the parts delivered, then about another week to get the work done because there were other bikes in the queue in front of me. Exactly when promised Bill called and said the bike was done. When I went to pick it up Bud stepped me through some of the "challenges" they faced while getting it fixed, including building a custom part themselves because it turned out the part was not available as they originally hoped. They didn't charge me a penny more than the original estimate even though I know without a doubt they spent more time on the bike than they quoted. The bike runs great now and I can enjoy doing the rest of the restoration myself. I'm glad I stumbled onto these guys and I know if I get in a pinch while completing the restoration I have a honest and fair shop down the street I can count on. read more

I have started doing my own maintenance, but some jobs I just don't have the tools or space for, and changing tires is one of those jobs. Poway Motorcycles is a preferred provider for one of the big on-line outfits, so I went to see them. They are a little hard to spot, being in the back (and well off the street) of a building they share with a smog check station, and just east of a big hive of automotive repair businesses - just watch for the sign and turn in immediately beyond it and ride to the back of the lot. I initially met with Bill for about a half hour, discussing tires and the ding in my front rim among other things. While Bill and Bud worked on my tires, we continued the conversation, and Bud even pointed out some features on the bike that I was not aware of (the bike was stock to my knowledge, but I am the third owner). I was pleasantly surprised that they let me look over their shoulder, though I did try not to hover too much. Dealerships never give that kind of experience, though they might have more comfortable chairs and better coffee. Which would you rather do, though, read a magazine or interact with the guys working on your bike? I found Bill, Bud, and Dave to be quite knowledgeable and affable, but sense they probably have little tolerance for people wasting their time. I certainly will be using them in the future. Also, it was fairly busy during the time I was in the shop, and many of the folks were obviously repeat customers that Bill was on a first name basis with. I don't think you can get a better recommendation than that. read more

These guys are great .. they are the only shop I take my bike to after trying several other shops around San Diego. I went to one of the large retail motorcycle shops in North County when I first got my bike .. the problem was that it was "hit or miss" .. depending on which mechanic you get. And the mechanic clearly didn't know what he was doing when he told me he needed to remove my rear tire to replace the battery. Poway Motorcycle has consistently done good work on my bike .. for a fair price and in a timely manner. Plus it's the same mechanic working on it each time .. and he really knows what he is doing. Both Bill and Bud are very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. It's a good idea to make an appointment so they're expecting you. There are restaurants nearby and a movie theater a little further down the road (about 3/4 mile) if you want something to do while waiting for your bike.
