Well done Airport Potbelly team!!! This place was beyond busy and pretty much non-stop during our 1.5 layover. We saw a constant line - close to our gate...however the line was moving...no person really stood in place for very long. Their system is pretty slick...they keep people moving and every staff member at their station was focused and attentive and helping to keep customers focused and paying attention. It's a bit of a cattle call line, however, everything was neat, organized, accessible and signage was viewable and readable from whereever you were standing in line. My sandwich was exactly how I requested. Well prepared, great amount of toppings and for a $13 sandwich it was a very generous portion. Easy to take on the plane. I would definitely recommend this location for a more "fresh" food option. read more

Not a huge fan of Potbelly traditionally but wanted to try a wrap instead of a sandwich, to see if I liked it better. And I did like it quite a bit! Felt like a better balance of flavors without so much bread. Order was: Chicken salad wrap, provolone, lettuce, cucumbers, Italian seasoning. Portion size was generous, everything tasted fresh and flavorful. In the mid-afternoon, this area is a good place to take a break in the airport. A few of the gates right around Potbelly were almost empty. I collapsed on a row of seats near the window and leisurely consumed my wrap while watching planes go by. It was quite pleasant. Marking off a star because I ordered ahead on their app while I was walking across the airport and they didn't make it until I got there, even though I had allowed 20 minutes for them to prepare it. No signage explaining where to go for pre-orders, so I had to flag someone down at the registers and she found the slip for the order. Then she sort of begrudgingly made it and handed it to me without any commentary. So yeah, seems to be a common theme here. The good part is that its open very early in the morning like 5am unlike the other close by options that open at 6am. Clean premises and fast moving lines is perfect for airport dining! In $12, i got: - pizza melt sandwich 3/5. I feel the wheat bread was amazing but it was too much marinara sauce. It comes with pepperoni and meatball. They give u lots of options which is amazing like wheat bread or white. Lots of topping options like onion, tomato, pickles, hot peppers, mayo, mustard. Potbelly is an ideal airport restaurant. Super fast line, quick and friendly service and a consistently decent sandwich. There is some limited seating in the restaurant area but its easy enough to eat at your gate. They have a pretty good breakfast menu selection with egg and bacon sandwiches too, and coffee if you need it. The whole process took less than 5 minutes in and out with a fresh breakfast. Definitely a good place to stop at Dulles for a decent meal. read more

But I genuinely feel a moral and legal obligation to share this experience, because what happened was beyond unacceptable. I approached the Potbelly Sandwich Shop in Dulles Airport (1 Saarinen) and immediately encountered what can only be described as the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Three employees stood together talking and completely ignored me. I walked to what looked like the order area -- no signage anywhere -- past a young man who was the only one actually working. When I finally asked for help, one of the employees snapped at me, in a harsh and dismissive tone, "Do you want to order? Then you need to go back there and order." No greeting. No assistance. Just attitude. I ordered the Avo Turkey. The key word here being "Avo." They handed my sandwich off to the toppings employee, who then asked me what toppings I wanted, even though the ingredients were clearly stated on the menu. Then the same rude employee asked, "What did you get?" as if she had paid zero attention to the entire process. That's when it hit me -- they were charging me for the avocado without putting any avocado on the sandwich. When I pointed it out, she begrudgingly unwrapped the sandwich and slapped some on, then reassembled it like she was angry I caught the mistake. I'm sorry, but this felt like a slap in the face to me, to Potbelly Corporate, to their shareholders, to Dulles Airport, and honestly to the entire city of Washington, D.C. This ruined my day and my 6-hour flight. It was like watching an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head -- except those two would have provided far better customer service, and at least they're entertaining. Do better, Potbelly. The guy working behind the cash register yesterday was extremely unprofessional. I went to pay for my sandwich, which I assumed they know which sandwich I have as they have a process. All he asked me was did you get the turkey avocado and I responded yes there were no additional questions asked. I assumed you already knew which sandwich I had and what toppings I have on it. I pay for my sandwich and I leave and then come to find out my friend who was behind me who got the same sandwich as me, but without bacon, so when the guy behind the register tried to charge her for the bacon, she let him know she didn't get bacon and he then became really upset stating that I was a "f*****g liar" to everybody in line, which is extremely unprofessional. Why would I need to lie about bacon on a sandwich? I can pay the extra three dollars or whatever it is for the bacon so once my friend let me know this I went back to the counter to pay him for the bacon, but he was gone at that time and the guy who was there told me not to worry about it.. definitely need to train your employees to be way more professional than that because they should not be talking like that in front of all the customers and putting down other customers. I am a big fan of Potbelly. Whenever I see them around, they become one of my top choices of fast food places to go. I like grilled and hot sandwiches, not a big fan of cold cuts or sandwiches that are served cold. Here they prepare your sandwich, the way you like it and then it goes through the toaster over conveyor belt, making the entire sandwich, hot and toasty.... This is located next to gate B44 at Dulles International Airport (IAD). I ordered a Power House Salad today but I didn't like it. It was a lot different from other Potbelly's. This one I had did not have any avocado and hummus. The chicken strips were not fresh and very cold as if they were kept in the freezer or fridge for days. It had bacon bits which I don't see in Power House Salad at other Potbelly locations. The dressing choice was limited to either ranch or vinaigrette. Yikes. read more

I ordered a turkey avocado sandwich and the gal placing the meat on the bread didn't space anything out evenly; so a fourth of my sandwich was all bread. When my sandwich went over to the next guy he started closing up my sandwich without my avocado or any toppings. Twice. I asked for avocado and he placed 3 tiny slivers of avocado on the sandwich. I asked for more and he placed one more sliver. When I said I wanted all of the toppings, he put a cup of hot peppers all over my sandwich and cheapened out on the rest of the toppings. In the menu also they have have Mac and cheese, sides, salads, soups etc. In drinks they have made to order milkshakes. I ordered the milkshake in chocolate flavor. The employee was efficient in making it and it tasted good. It came with a little cookie on top of the straw. That was a cute touch. The prices not steep as some airport choices. This was my first time noticing the rise of both hunger and emotions. With an "Eat first, snap later-" kind of mood. Potbelly's Sandwich Shop caught my attention for dinner. I had the urge to taste both Potbelly's Traditional Dressing and a simple Balsamic; therefore, I went Dutch on their Farmhouse salad (a rendition of a Cobb salad.) I drizzled half with their traditional dressing and the other half with their balsamic dressing. This salad had my taste buds singing, "Old McDonald had a farm. E-I-E-I-Oooh... with some oink, oinks here and cluck, clucks there... here's some bacon bits there's some diced, boiled eggs... and every where was a layer of deliciousness within a bite. Airport Food - I've often associated airport food with the food court experience found at the large indoor shopping malls that are mediocre at best and seems to be more of a necessity rather than a well thought out business plan. After all like the shopping malls airports have a captive audience but they've never seem to take full advantage of the opportunities before them. With the tightened security measures in place going outside of security is more painful than the knot in your stomach after bouncing through space eating peanuts, pretzels and drinking carbonated beverages, throw in the risk of losing your seat if venture to far from your delayed flight, it likely that you'll spend an extra few bucks to relax and have a nice meal instead of paying inflated prices for bar food, fast food or commercial grade food service selections from restaurants with names you've never heard of before they also understand they can enjoy high profit margins, deliver poor customer service because repeat business is not a requirement to keep their doors open. In recent years the fast food industry has infiltrated these travel hubs and although they deliver familiarity, the premise is the same it's fast, convenient, unhealthy and disgusting. So now at Washington Dullies you're presented with a slightly healthier choice, it may not be the culinary experience you crave and it similarities to Sub-way is frightening, but if you truly aspire to become a "Potbellian" you must choose from the "underground" menu and get a toasted PB&J....at 860 calories and 105g of carbs it's both dinner and dessert. Oooh - another Potbelly location at Dulles. These sandwiches are the benchmark of flavor and execution. And they are consistently good. The hot pepper mix is full-strength spicy - get *extra* and you're in for a solid mouth-scorching. I always get mine 'thin cut' where they tear out the fluffy part of the bread roll. Masterful, quick toasting process. Not like Quizno's where they burn your shit. Can you tell I'm a huge fan? Their stock (PBPB) has taken a nosedive since their IPO last fall. I love these sandwiches so much, my tastebuds tell me to buy in at these levels. Especially if you believe in the ol' "invest in what you love" adage. I kept seeing German / European travelers walk on by. I wanted to yell out, "If you're looking for a best of breed, American sandwich - this is it! Subway sucks!" I guess something about the Potbelly signage doesn't quite command the attention of potential first-timers. Also, there are many outlets to charge your phone or other devices. My phone was at 5% so this was a big plus for me, Line is long but moved without delays. I ordered the bbq pulled pork with Zapp's chips and a bottle of water for about $12.50. Sandwich came with mayo and coleslaw. Regular sauce, not spicy.
