Incredibly overpriced shipping rates. They upcharge anywhere from ***150-200% OR MORE (I did my math wrong initially) over what USPS would charge in office or via Click-N-Ship. Here's a few, real examples from my own experience: - Shipping a book via Media Mail: USPS - $4.94; this Postal Annex - $9.84; UPCHARGE = 199%!!!! - Shipping a 1lb non-flammable, non-fragile package via USPS Ground Advantage: USPS - $11.95; this Postal Annex - $18.24; UPCHARGE = 153%!!!!!!!! Zero acknowledgement of customer loyalty. I've been in frequently over the last year and I was just charged $3 for "computer usage" to print a shipping label - I did not use the computer, the employee did. I understand being charged for the paper, but $3 for "computer usage" when you're already charging me twice USPS rates to ship a package is insane. DO NOT GO HERE if you value the goods that you are sending!! For many years, I've used Sunset Mailboxes to ship stuff home to Canada while I'm here on vacation, doing research and buying lots of research books. I've NEVER had a problem with them, and I should have returned. I'm sorry, John. Lesson learned. Never again. This place was super close to my Air B & B, and they were open an hour later after an event I was at in Hollywood, so on 2 different days, I took 5 boxes of books I was buying for my research library, my personal stock of books for an event I had in Hollywood, and also some Target doo-dads and groceries. I noticed the owner was not padding the contents very well, and I asked him to please put more padding in because it was groceries and books, which are not a good mix. He protested that he was trained very well to pack, and it would be fine. Well, most of the boxes got to me OK, but GUESS WHAT, ANDRE?? IT WASN'T FINE. One box still had not shown up by the very end of September/early October, so I called FedEx. Unfortunately, they had called when I was in a meeting and I couldn't pick up. The last box was shipped back to my Air B & B (it was just lucky the owner and I got to be good friends while I was there. I shudder to think what would have happened to my stuff if we hadn't!). His neighbor who was housesitting brought the box inside, but it had been sent back for improper shipping because some Trader Joe's item I bought BROKE OPEN in the box (way to pack, there, expert dude). Unfortunately, my Air B & B owner had left for Europe not long after I left L.A. on September 10th, so I had to wait until he returned for it to get re-sent back to Canada. I was forced to my host re-send it without the food items (no Trader Joe's Speculoos, except the stuff that ended up all over my books). I finally got the f**king box today, and most of the books are going to have to be cleaned up, page by page, with a wet rag, a knife, a scissors, and Goo Gone, because the pages are all stuck together. It's going to require surgical excision so that I can even read them. The books themselves are ruined, and are now worthless. Several of these are rarities, especially one from Agnes DeMille I'm not sure is recoverable. It is COATED in sticky goo. The top cover, under the dust jacket, between the pages...everywhere. Plus, the entire time Andre was wrapping everything the first time, he gave me attitude. I was on vacation, shrugging it off at the time, but my Air B & B owner has had run-ins too with him in the past. Now after reading the reviews, I wish I'd never gone anywhere but my old faithful Sunset Mailboxes. Add to this, the fact that I had to spend ANOTHER $130 to re-ship the stuff just so I could get it home? This place could catch fire and I wouldn't shed a tear. The topper is that the owner is a massive Trump lover to boot, says friend, who dealt with him once and also won't return. Do yourself a favor and AVOID. read more

I went to purchase a SINGLE STAMP today. The clerk told me it would be$1.32 cents. I said that's ridiculous-- I said it was around .55-60 cents -- he said I was wrong and it hasn't been that low for a long time! Incorrect, I went to USPS behind PATY'S-- a few blocks away. I asked the postal worker for the price of a SINGLE STAMP. Answer: .66 cents. The Postal Annex was misleading and pompous -- one would think that a postal iteration business would KNOW the actual price of their products. I went in for a notary service for an I-9 form in which Andre immediately shut me down and proceeded to yell at me because I simply asked the reason as to why he won't notarize my form. (In all honesty I think it was because he didn't know how. He didn't even know how to open a PDF form to print. I had to walk him through it). When I told him I didn't appreciate the way he was talking to me, him and his wife got in my face and were attempting to get other customers involved. I've been using their services here for years. I mostly worked with Ruth and she was always so sweet and helpful. It wasn't until my final days living close to Postal Annex that I finally got a chance to work a lot more with Andre. I needed to ship a bunch of my boxes to the other side of the coast and thought it would be a good idea to try Postal Annex out because I knew they have the ability to see the charges for different shipping companies. I came in with 18 boxes of various sizes some picture frames and computer/monitors that needed to be packaged properly (I've never had to ship anything across the coast like this before so I'm not sure this was the best idea, but I digress). I paid for Postal Annex to package the more delicate items and I am so glad I did. Andre was so meticulous in the way he measured the items and ensured there was enough space for the proper amount of peanuts inside so nothing would get damaged. I thought maybe he was being too cautious with how he packed it, but boy was I wrong. Also, Ruth was great about adding additional tape to all of my boxes to help reduce the potential of it falling apart. The difference between the things he packed and the way I packed was literally night and day. The boxes he packed got across the coast in perfect condition and the boxes I packed were torn up (even with the extra tape) and some items were broken. That's not the end of it though. I ended shipping my stuff through a mixture of USPS and FedEx. My assumption was that USPS would somehow lose some of my packages and FedEx would be a breeze. Boy, was I wrong on this as well. USPS actually delivered all of my packages properly. FedEx, on the other hand was late on delivering 4 of my boxes and was missing one box. I had to file a claim online for the 1 missing box and ended up getting a partial refund. As for the 4 late boxes, FedEx used to have a refund policy where they would refund you if your package was delivered late. After fumbling around on FedEx's horrendous site trying to file the claims for the 4 late boxes, I finally just called to file the claims. I talked to multiple agents and each told me a different story about whether or not I would be refunded. I was so confused, so I called Postal Annex to let them know what the situation was. Apparently, FedEx no longer honored that policy and Postal Annex was not aware of this when Andre told me that the policy existed. So Andre and I went back and forth about how to handle my situation and to my surprise, Andre and Ruth decided to refund me directly for the rest of the amount on the missing box along with a refund for the boxes that were delivered late. They didn't hesitate to offer the refund whatsoever and was so great about staying in contact with me to ensure that I was taken care of. Although I no longer live in the area, I would highly recommend that you use their service because it's just the two of them running the store and they're always giving such quality service. Also, there are never really any lines there either. Moral of the story, use Postal Annex for your shipping and mailbox needs because you'll get quality and care. DO NOT USE FEDEX because they have horrible customer service and don't seem to care about their customers at all. If I could give Postal Annex 10 stars, I would. Thank you Ruth and Andre! read more

I gave them a five because none of my items that I've ever had packed by them have either gotten lost, or The contents I have never been broken upon arrival. I live in Burbank six months out of the year. And I live on the Oregon coast six months out of the year. I have them pack all of the items that are fragile, or could become broken from 1200 miles in a U-Haul on the road in both California and Oregon. I trust them implicitly with all the fragile items that I do pack to go to friends as gifts like antique china cups and saucers. And this chandelier that I'm getting ready to ship it now. I have been using them for approximately 11 years, I once shipped clothing and miscellaneous down to Mexico City via DHL, it was hung up in Mexican customs for a month. The destination of these items could not be delivered for reasons unknown. I came back to Postal Annex and they got on the phone to DHL and spoke to the right people that I was unable to do, and got the products sent back to me intact. And at no cost for the return. They're my go to for Christmas cards, and items that I need sent out billing wise so that I know that the paperwork gets there. Do you have many options when it comes to shipping and can become very confusing. But my items always get there ahead of time which is lovely when it's a birthday gift, or Christmas. I personally have no complaints about this location and will continue to drive from my home which is 2 miles away with other locations that I could go to, because I love their customer service. read more

I have only used this service once, but they were very friendly and accommodating to me, the man fetched a box from his shelf and put my item in the box and taped and sealed and labeled it. I believe the 2 people who own and operate this franchise are french. They are extremely rude and their english is very broken, very poor communication skills. I came to this location to ship time sensitive important financial documents to a PO Box. I requested 2 day shipping with signature verification. They insisted they could not do that, then at 4:05 PM they proceeded to charge me and place a label on my package that clearly said "1 Day Shipping, No Signature". They then instructed me to drive to the Hollywood USPS office (during rush hour traffic) and drop it off myself. Why am I paying YOU yet I'm doing legwork?? I told them I felt more comfortable just leaving it with them because I could anticipate long lines and issues but they insisted I drop it off myself. I give them the benefit of a doubt and drive to the Hollywood USPS and sure enough as I expected the old building is CLOSED AND BOARDED UP. So I drive to the next closest USPS in Los Feliz and of course theres a huge line. When I get to the front of the line the USPS Rep tells me they charged me incorrectly and USPS only does the type of shipping they charged me for (1 Day) before 3:30, verbatim the rep tells me "they just took your money" So now I'm PISSED. My time, money and effort wasted. I drive back to this PostalAnnex location, ask them why they have me doing their job for them and why they would charge me for something they know they shouldnt after 3:30PM. They have the nerve to start yelling at me! Are you serious! A**holes either you're completely incompetent/unable to communicate properly in the english language or you intentionally tried to screw me! None of those options are acceptable! Officious, Nosy, Self Important nuisance who can find a problem for any solution. On two occasions in the last two years I was compelled to use Andre for notary services due to urgent illness related family documentation issues. The proximity to Forest Lawn and the Bank of America next door and unexpected urgency due to serious illness compounded by imminent closing times only increased our frustration while fueling his obstructionist arrogance. Andre delights in tying to give lectures on the law and pontificating about his job while far exceeding his mandate as a notary. He naively and erroneously assumes his clients are uneducated in medico-legal matters. Simply Identifying and recording the nature of a document and validating a signature is all that is required. Instead, on two separate occasions, he questioned and commented on personal items in documents which absolutely were none of his business. Then insisted on his interpretation of what should or should not be included and what constitutes completion of personal items. Specifically, when referring to references within a document involving a related POA he demanded to see the separate POA. If you have serious, time sensitive documents to handle then stay far away from this incredibly annoying, time consuming and nosy little shop of horrors. read more

The company I work for has our PO Box at this Postal Annex and I couldn't be happier with it. They always keep our mail organized and they save me a trip to the Post Office, UPS, FedEx - because you can do it all here (including UPS and FedEx drop-offs)! Ruth and Andre are wonderful people and I always look forward to stopping in & saying hello. Aside from the PO Box which is reasonably priced (also they are open until 7pm which is great - and they sign for our packages so we don't have to worry about missing any), I have had documents notarized, sent UPS, purchased stamps, sent FedEx, USPS Priority, shipped Christmas gifts, shipped international packages, etc.. There's no mailing matter that can't be handled here. I love having one place to go to where I know they will help me. Zero stars if I could. Missed my friend's wedding in Cancun. This guy insisted that my passport was a renewal. Not a new passport application. After I asked him and told him 15 times. I eventually took his word for it being that he's an "experienced" passport service. Then I took my pictures to the city and they said his pictures zoomed in on my face too much. The city really took care of me and this guy offered nothing for totally botching a potential wedding experience in Cancun. All he said was how experienced he was. Yeah right.
