Chef Steff's culinary talent shines through every single bite and was delicious from start to finish! The salmon , chefs kiss is all I can say! The host ( Marcus) was so wonderful as we arrived and making sure we were good the entire time. The atmosphere was on point! My wife and I stopped into Porter for dinner at 6:30 on Friday, April 24, 2026 and it turned into a full night out. We started with cocktails (Manhattan for me, rosé for her), then kicked things off with a shrimp cocktail and gazpacho. For mains, the duck breast perfectly cooked medium rare with a cherry sauce and parsnip purée that really brought it together. My wife had the mushroom fricassee. She was pleased with her choice! After dinner, we headed upstairs to the Gaslight speakeasy, which completely. Cozy, stylish, and a great cocktail program. She loved the Quiet Bloom, and my Night Ledger was spot on. Great food, excellent drinks, and attentive service. We'll definitely be back: maybe for dinner, maybe just for drinks, but this is a spot worth repeating. Check it out! read more

Got drinks upstairs at the gaslight. Our waitress was good. What absolutely sucked was the appetizer. We got a charcuterie board and after ordering it, it came out within 30 seconds. Talk about fast?!!? Everything on the board was warm. With how quick the board came out, you can tell the boards were pre-made and just sat out. For $26, this was just gross and a rip off to customers. Drinks were ok though. read more

We just read another review and have to agree - small wine pour and food is minimal. Rock shrimp were from a can and only as big as a fingernail - only 4 shrimp over pasta. Sauce on pasta made my sister sick. NY strip steak is more like London broil - at $63 - Capital Grill prices, it should be more like Capital Grill. Service was slow and oysters were said to be from Chesapeake, they were from cold water like New England. They were good. I have been there for lunch several times and it was good. Dinner was a disaster on all fronts, and it was over $300 for 3 people. They need to change or they will not be open long. read more

I must rate my experience less than 1. I have tried to arrange a dinner party for 24 people in the restaurant in less than a month; spoke with Sam the manager, whom I had to call back to get info for my event more than twice and have yet to receive a call back. Yesterday I was told "she's in the bathroom for 20 minutes" and would call me back afterwards. WTH? . I'm still waiting. We went with a party of seven. On the plus side the drinks were good as was the service. On the negative side was my order of gumbo. It was supposed to be chicken and sausage gumbo with tasso ham in a dark roux. There was one small slice of sausage that tasted funny, no tasso ham and the roux was not even roux. It seemed it was some kind of tomato soup. Any roux you can see through is not really roux. A chef once told me you can fake alot of things but you can't fake roux. So no sausage, no tasso ham and no roux. I sent it back and did not eat anything else. The restaurant did not even take it off the bill. Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience at Porter. The staff seemed quite young and inexperienced, and the service lacked the level of attention you'd expect at this price point. One friend ordered a gin cocktail with raspberry and bitters that she said tasted like lipstick. She told our waitress she really didn't like it and asked for something else, but there was no concern or even much of a reaction. Three of our four entrées arrived cold. Ironically, the one dish that was actually hot--the gumbo--was served without a spoon. My branzino was particularly disappointing: essentially a small, shriveled tail portion served with cold, mushy potatoes. We were looking forward to a nice dinner with friends, but between the food quality, temperature, service, and fairly high prices, it just wasn't a good experience. There are too many other good restaurants in the Ambler area to spend this much on a meal of this quality. read more

A tale of two very different experiences... Jekyll and Hyde. I dined at Porter a few weeks ago with a friend. We had reservations and a wonderful experience. We were greeted immediately upon entering, seated right away. Our server promptly greeted us, provided water and gave us a little time to decide on drinks. After serving our drinks he asked if we were ready to place an order. Throughout the meal, his service was exemplary. Drinks were provided quickly and warm rolls were delivered with our salads. Our main courses came out just as we finished our salads. The main courses were cooked perfectly and tasty. The waiter checked in with us multiple times and since it was not a very busy night, allowed my friend and I to catch up and linger a little bit. We then went upstairs to Gaslight and again, received a warm welcome, excellent service and very good drinks. Tonight, my husband and I did an impromptu visit on our way home after work. The person at the front desk was warm and welcoming. As she gathered the menus to take us to our seats, another staff person came up and directed the woman to seat us at a specific station. I'm not sure if she was a hostess or floor manager. We sat for a little over 10 minutes and no one even greeted us. I used to waitress so I understand things can get busy. I was trained to always acknowledge the patron and simply say you will be right with them. I finally had to flag down the original woman who greeted us at the door to ask for our waitstaff person. She looked shocked that no one had come to us. In the mean time, a couple seated at the table next to us were visited by the hostess/manager twice and by their waiter twice. The also received warm rolls. Finally a waiter came over. We placed our drink order. I said we can place our drink order and food order please. He apologized and said no one told him we were seated there. So I understand that can be frustrating for a waiter. But you would tink he would then be more attentive to turn a not so good impression of the restaurant into a better one. Another staff person delivered our drinks. My salad arrived and was good. The table next to us was visited again by the hostess. After waiting a bit for our entrees the waiter did rush by and say our meal would be out soon. He never stopped to ask if we needed anything else or to offer warm rolls. Our meals came out. My husband enjoyed his meal. I had requested the salmon be cooked medium. It was medium on the ends and rare to medium rare through the remainder of the piece. I figured it was not worth sending it back as my husband wold be done his meal before I got mine back. We were two-thirds of the way through our meal when our waiter finally stopped at our table and asked if we needed anything. I asked for warm rolls. The hostess brought those to our table. I was very disappointed with the meal and whole experience. I had spoke to highly of Porter to my husband after my first experience and felt so bad that his first experience was so negative. We skipped dessert as we didn't want to endure any more. But, I thought I could make things up for the evening by going up to Gaslight and having some drinks. Unfortunately I didn't realize until we got to the top of the stairs that the upstairs bar/speakeasy must only operate certain nights of the week. It would have been nice to have a station sign at the bottom of steps inside the door stating it wasn't open or even better listing the hours of operation. So the latter was on me for not checking first. But the remainder, please if you are going to charge the prices that you do, I expect a certain level of service and the same service for all of your patrons. read more

The best thing about Porter were the people at my table. Our drinks took twenty minutes in the mostly empty restaurant. The waiter poured each of us an inch of water. That was odd. Maybe they were conserving. The food that followed was not great. Between us we had the beet salad, goat cheese salad, Short rib grilled cheese, burrata and several orders of heavy, tasteless shrimp and crab bucatini. Nothing was a stand out. Everything was mediocre. For dessert we waited and waited and finally got bread pudding and apple something without the vanilla ice cream. They were out, so they substituted home made whipped cream made with what tasted like baking powder and no sugar. The wait time for our cocktails and each course was very long, and the food wasn't worth the trip but on a positive note, the wait staff were nice people. All in all Porter was not worth the visit. read more

After Porter took over Gypsy Blu (which was an amazing restaurant) we decided to try Porter. DON'T! We went for appetizers and a glass of wine. I ordered a grilled cheese and my mom ordered the Caesar salad. The salad was bland and had stale croutons. My grilled cheese was very small. Only about half a sandwich. The meat had no flavor, and the cheese was rubbery. The wine glass was barely full when we got it as well. Our total was 47$. For barely a snack. We went home and had a dinner. The people next to us said the same about their food... Bad! I am utterly disappointed. read more

Tried to sit outside for drinks, we said we were not in a rush. They said they would set a table up for us, the hostesses disappeared for 10 minutes and then while they were setting up the table the waiters were doing rock, paper, scissors to see who had to wait on us.
