We used to love to come to this donut shop every time we came to Walla Walla, but we came down for the balloon stampede and they pretty much had no donuts every time we went in. There was a very mean, looking Asian lady who was very put upon to serve anyone. Second time we went back thinking maybe they used set up off day and we walked by the window and they only had like one or two different types of donuts and we just walked out. I hope it was just a bad weekend, but we really missed the one very bubbly lady that used to be there. I hope they turn it around. read more

I'm sad, I understand the pandemic has made things tough but this is the second time we've gotten a raw doughnut from here ): I remember doughnuts from this place when I was really young and they were great, sometimes they still are. But they're very unwilling to admit to anything is wrong, claiming the inside of the doughnut is supposed to be wet. Which yes, filling IS moist, that's kindda how that works. But it really was wet dough, kindda hard to miss that thick pastey pancake batter texture. Most of the inside around the filling was raw dough. I only get Apple fritters. They're amazing! Today was trip 4 in the last 10 days- 0 fritters- closed for lunch one day and 0 the other 3. It's a real shame when a business fails to respond to demand. Donuts are frequently not fresh, lots of flies, overall just not worth going over and over with gas so high. Super 1 has them too. I'm not ever going here again- just not worth it. Shame read more

We ordered a HUGE amount of maple bars from popular donuts for our wedding last weekend. I was sure we ordered too many because we also had cupcakes and macrons... well... guess what went first? Perhaps the problem is in the name and the are just popular. There was nothing left but apple stuffed bearclaws and apple fritters. $2.36 for 2 small fritters is way to expensive. They also never sell decaffeinated coffee. Maybe it's worth the visit first thing in the morning but certainly not in the afternoon. read more

BEST DONUT SHOP AROUND! After visiting nearby colleges for job recruiting I felt like just going to a nearby donut shop one morning to grab a quick donut or two for breakfast. After a quick search on Yelp, my two main choices were this place and a place called 'Roger's Bakery & Cafe' in College Place. I had already been to Roger's and the donuts were okay but nothing great. After visiting Popular Donuts, WOW! The selection here is a LOT bigger and their donuts taste SO much more fresh! I ended up buying a dozen and each donut was amazing. Prices are by far reasonable and I definitely recommend this place to all in this area! read more

OMG- the best Apple fritter I've ever had. Not heavy dough. Light and airy and diced apples were just perfectly matched. And glaze was sooo light not heavy coated glaze! Simple location doing one thing well. Fantastic donuts and good selection. Get there early if you want one of the specialty donuts as they go fast. We put our order in the day before, as we wanted donuts for the road, and they were ready when we arrived. My favorite is the Peanut Butterfly. The buttermilk bar is also fantastic. I love this place. I'm fairly new to town, so finding a good donut shop was the first order of business. I don't usually make it there early enough to experience the full glory of freshly-baked heaven, but there's usually still a decent selection at noon. I usually go in for one, and end up leaving with four because I can't decide, then I (without much work) convince others to share them with me so I can enjoy a little of each. Precisely what a donut shop should be. They make great donuts, including my favorite (cake rather than raised), and are very nice, too. The donuts are prefect, not too sweet, with the right amount of topping. (Too much sweetness and it overwhelms the donut itself.) The filed donuts use what I've usually called "custard" filling (as opposed to the frosting-like stuff a lot of grocery store bakeries use) and it tastes just right for the pastry. These are incredible donuts. The flavor are intense, the texture and density is perfect, and the price is great. I tried their old fashioned and a bear claw. The old fashioned, coated in the ideal amount of glaze, had just the right amount of resistance as you bite into it and reveals a soft, light interior teeming with buttermilk goodness.
