Went to get the Mother's Day mini cake special and it was pretty good .. very cute and beautiful mini cake

    Matcha Latte.

I pass by this cute little bakery everyday on my walk and it's always super busy with people hanging in their outdoor tables chatting or working. I finally came to try it out and had the Matcha Latte ($6). My drink was ready within minutes, so that was nice. Unfortunately, the matcha was a bit bland. It's not bad, but nothing amazing. Plus, I tried some of the cornbread from my friend and it was lackluster and crumbly. Maybe it was because it was towards the evening and the pastries are now cold, but what a shame that they can't heat it up for you either. They also offer some packaged salads, soups, and such but it is very pricey. Now I can stop wondering about this spot every time I pass by --not worth the money.

Sadly a let down, didn't have certain items at 9am, and frittata was a bit water-logged, overcooked and had a rubbery outside. Too bad because things look enticing. Would enjoy trying the biscuit if I pass by again but wouldn't go out of the way to visit.

One place Manhattan can't take from Brooklyn is Poppy's. One of my favorite cafes in all of New York. They have a great selection of seasonal baked goods and pastries, full food & drink menu including seasonal flavors and ingredients, and a grab & go refrigerated section with lots to offer. The baristas hear are so kind and patient. Truly your favorite "neighborhood cafe with another location in Cobble Hill!

In an ideal world, I would be taller, smarter, better-looking, and own a brownstone in Carroll Gardens. I'd have enough time and money to sit in the sunshine outside Poppy's and eat delicious pastries and/or sandwiches every day. I'd read if alone, and converse about non-work-related things if not, sipping on excellent beverages they provide, and not taking care of my kids (in this world, they take care of themselves). This may not be an ideal world, but it's not so bad. I still get to occasionally sit in the sunshine outside Poppy's, eat and drink what they have on offer, and enjoy this perfect little cafe. Everything is pretty great thus far, but in particular: The sea salt sprinkled chocolate chip cookie is one of the best you can find anywhere ($5, but actually worth it). The comically tall biscuit sandwich is tough to get your mouth around with the thick, fluffy biscuit, crispy prosciutto, white cheddar, greens, and hot honey...but it's so very, very tasty. And they have an adorable selection of products they make, or curate, including chili crisp and chili oil and snacks labeled "Poppy's" that I can get and give to one of my favorite nieces, whose name is Poppy. And then I can eat it all when I go to her parents' house, because she's three years old and definitely doesn't need chili crisp.

Poppy's is exactly the cafe I envisioned: a corner slice of heaven in beautiful Carroll Gardens. A little gem tucked away from the business of Court Street. The shoppe that knows the neighborhood and it's patrons. I Yelped this morning trying ti find a different place for a quick snack to take to a pre- movie at Cobble Hill Cinema. I had bookmarked Poppy's and decided to visit and take away something sweet or savory... One look at their biscuit egg sandwich and cardamom coffee cake had me really stumped as to what to try. I visited late @3:30 and the shop closes at 4. I scanned the pastry case and saw neither of what I was craving. The cardamom coffee cake was not in stock and won't be for awhile and there were no egg biscuit sandwich. They offered regular biscuits, ginger Bundt cake, chocolate cake and lemon poppyseed loaf. I opted for the loaf to go, I love anything lemon. I walked the small but quaint shop and noticed they sell wine and other home goods. Poppy's mission is to create simple, beautiful and approachable food. They also provide catering as well as wait staff services. I can certainly see these services doing quite well in this neighborhood as well as Brooklyn Heights. This is a lovely shop to sit, enjoy high quality food. I can see coming here on a snowy day and enjoying something savory and sweet. As for my lemon poppyseed loaf: the texture was moist, lemony/buttery flavor and I think a hint of sea salt on the loaf ends. I enjoyed it happily as I watched, I kid you not, The Menu.

I visited Poppy's for the first time this weekend. One of my good friends lives in Cobble Hill around the corner and always talks about how amazing their breakfast biscuits are. We waited in line for about 10 minutes because they only allow four people inside the bakery at once. We ordered a couple of iced lattes, one bacon jam breakfast biscuit, and the brioche setup with spicy tomato (but in a biscuit). We sat outside at one of their covered outdoor picnic tables, and it was a really nice ambiance! Would definitely recommend eating there if you're interested in outdoor dining for a quick / casual moment. The bacon jam was the clear winner between the two. It came with lettuce on it, but I think it could've used some lighter greens. The biscuit itself was perfection - flakey, fluffy, and a lot of height. The iced lattes were also delish! Will for sure be back to Poppy's for more biscuits and pastries from their weekly selection.

A cute cafe nestled right by St. George's Hotel with a covered outdoor seating area. Everything seemed a bit overpriced (to be expected), but the citrus sumac scone ($6) was delicious--delicately potent orange flavor; crunchy sugar and crisp, buttery sides; and a thick, crumbly interior. The maple cardamom latte ($6.50) also did not disappoint, althought there wasn't much maple coming through, the cardamom flavor was warm and strong--it's perfect for a rainy day.

There's a couple of tables in a small store. Above the register there's a menu board resembling a train departures board, cycling through the options (it looks neat, but the printed out menu on your right is a lot more practical). There's a cooler with drinks and salads as you enter on the right. The sandwiches, however, are something special. On my first visit I went with something familiar, the Mean Streets (their Italian sandwich). The bread itself is fantastic (locally baked), and the toppings delicious as well (if I recall correctly the dressings are house made). Pleasantly, they also give you a paper plate with your order, which is a nice touch compared to eating off a wrapper. I enjoyed the first sandwich so much I came back the next day to try the No Sleep Til Gravesend. The sandwich is essentially a hot roast beef sandwich, with a jus on the sandwich reminiscent of a French Dip. Perfect on a cold, rainy day. Overall, 1 of 1 has great (and mostly house made) ingredients and great execution. There's a level of creativity on the menu that you rarely see elsewhere in the city. 1 of 1 is among the best sandwich shops in the city, and a very welcome addition to the area.

Expensive though, about $55 dollars for a vegan 18-inch Margherita pie with 3 toppings. Was it worth it for the experience? Yes. Would I recommend to someone who wanted to try it at least once for a good dairy-free pizza? Absolutely, I couldn't even tell this was vegan cheese. Would I get it again? Maybe (?) once in a while as a treat with price being the only barrier. Service 5/5: This was great. I came here the other day to inquire about their vegan pizza and just wanted to try a slice. The person found his manager to talk to me about this. They were super friendly and explained to me the situation. This location only sold vegan options in full pies and their other DOP Fast Life location does sell vegan slices, but they didn't try to push me to buy. I came back today and the staff today were also very welcoming. Ambiance 5/5: Rustic red brick interior with warm lighting. It was definitely bustling on a Friday night. Food 5/5: Delicious pizza. I do regret that I ate it cold after driving 30 minutes to pick it up so I did not get the full experience. But the crust was still crunchy. I do wish the toppings were a little heavier but the tomato chunks in the sauce tasted very fresh. A very classic New York style pizza and I couldn't even tell it wasn't real cheese. Vegan garlic knots were great too.
