So we walked by this place while trying to get to lunch. We decided to not have dessert at lunch…read moreand come back because I've heard good things and there was a long line inside when I looked when we walked by. When we walked in, the was no longer a line and there was a reason. You need to come here early. I mean before 11am early. They will sell out. When we walked in, there were only a few donuts left, 1 row of crullers, 1 row of GF crullers and half a row of churro crullers. My husband hates crullers, but they're my favorite donut, so I thought I was the only one who was going to get one. I may have said this out loud and I think one of the people working felt bad for us, so she produced a box of gorgeous donuts and let us know that someone hadn't picked up their order and we could choose from this box if we liked. There were a few my husband would like, so we bought 4 of them. Holy moly! These donuts are fan-freaking-tastic!!! They were a little too big for me and kind of greasy to be perfectly honest, but they were also so soft and fluffy, with a crisp exterior. The flavors were bold and delicious and they were even good the next day when I ate my second one.

I stopped by on a Friday morning and it wasn't too busy. I took a look at the availability of donuts and ordered a Coconut Mocha (cake) and Honey Cruller (flourless). The coconut mocha is made of vanilla cake, vanilla glaze, toasted coconut, and mocha drizzle. It reminded me of Girl Scout Samoas cookies. I've gotten the honey cruller previously and always enjoyed it. PVDonuts is always a good place for donuts. I also liked that these donuts are a little smaller than the filled ones and less sweet.

Rhode Island has no shortage of old-school bakeries, and I say that without a bit of shame. We're…read morelucky to still have so many of these neighborhood places around, and Silver Star Bakery is definitely one of my favorites. I'll admit that I don't get here as often as I'd like. I usually stop in when I happen to be in the area, but that almost makes it more of a treat when I do. Silver Star is a smaller neighborhood bakery, and that's exactly what I like about it. There's nothing pretentious about the place and no attempt to turn a simple bakery into some sort of trendy destination. You walk in, you're greeted by incredibly friendly people, and there's a very good selection of pastries and baked goods staring back at you. The variety is impressive considering the size of the shop, and I usually end up leaving with more than I originally intended to buy. The coffee is also very good, which matters to me. There's something about getting a good cup of coffee alongside a fresh pastry from a neighborhood bakery that just works. Silver Star gets that combination right without making a production out of it. The prices are another big plus. Everything feels reasonably priced, especially compared with what you can end up paying at some of the newer bakeries and cafés. You're getting good food, good coffee, friendly service, and that genuine neighborhood-bakery atmosphere without feeling like you're being charged extra for the privilege. Five stars from me. Silver Star is exactly the kind of bakery I hope Rhode Island continues to hold onto. Small, friendly, affordable, plenty of good pastries, and no unnecessary fuss. I always enjoy stopping in, and I'm already looking forward to the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

I stopped in today despite all the snow in providence and numerous roadways nearby being blocked my plows and trucks. I have zero regrets! The obstacles were worth overcoming for their amazing rainbow cookies that I'm obsessed with. This bakery isn't fancy at all, but don't let that fool you. Their staff is lovely and their cookies are epic. I love this spot so much! It is a hidden gem.
