Ube Scone, and Popover with Lilikoi Butter

The popover with Lilikoi butter was very good. The popover was light & airy and the lilikoi butter was sweet and paired well with the popover. The ube scone, which was nearly $5, was wildly dry and honestly tasted like it had been baked 2 or 3 days prior to sale.

Wow! So good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Something interesting about Hawaii is they don't care for too much about the aesthetic and interior design.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon walking in, you see a mom and pops with a weird table layout of their baked goods.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But actually eating it is such a different story! Great value for lots of yummy breakfast

Lots of open parking fronting the building. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went around 10am and there was only one other customer in there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Most of the dessert stands and the glass case were empty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A condiment, utensil, napkin, and water station is positioned on the side against the wall. The water container's ice had melted away. Little condensation remained outside the jug.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My husband asked the woman at the counter is they were making any more new donuts in the back. She said yes, walked to the back, and returned with a tray filled with a variety of donuts. I got s'mores flavor and he got a couple strawberry ones and something else. Unfortunately, I didn't love my donut. The glaze was too sweet for my liking and I'd prefer the graham crackers to be crumbed rather than big chunks. The chunk texture competed with the softness of the donut. The woman said the best time to come is at 5:30 am, when they have the full spread of options.

Got breakfast here during my stay in Hilo and I loved it! My husband and I shared the Breakfast Popover - it had so much flavor, we loved it! It was pretty big if you're not a huge breakfast eater, I would recommend splitting it. We also tried their puffs which were perfectly baked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself had a lot of seating available and restrooms as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was also a lot of parking. Would definitely come back!

I was in the area so decided to walk on over for a quick dessert and it was so worth it! The lilikoi and coconut doughnut is the perfect amount of sweet and fruity. Wish I could get this flavor back home! Also, the lady behind the counter was extremely sweet. Love supporting small businesses; they 100% deserve more customers! If you're ever looking for a great place to grab a bite and a sweet treat, you should definitely stop by popover. The workers are always so friendly and helpful when I'm unsure what to get. I got the bbq chicken flatbread and it was HUGE. I could only eat a third of it and was stuffed! We also got a breakfast popover, which was also sooo ono and sooo filling! We went closer to closing time so the selection for desserts wasn't as full as usual, but we were still able to get a few pastries and cookies to-go.

This locally owned shop serves large popovers filled with delicious fillings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is not a fancy location or area but this casual eatery is a breath of fresh air.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is plenty of free parking out front. You walk in and give your order at the counter. The lady behind the counter was working hard and very nice. The popover was so big and filled we both commented that this was a large breakfast! The puffs were just ok, not very crispy but that is hard to do in this humidity. The maple bacon donut had generous toppings. The big stars were the huge popovers.

This is a hole in the wall place outside of the main downtown area. The people were very friendly and the breakfast sandwiches were amazing!! High recommend.

Go! Just go and promise you won't be disappointed. This bakery is a hidden gem and the food is only surpassed by its awesome service. I needed a box of little pastry puffs for a client meeting and came back an hour later to get more for myself. The mango and chocolate ones were my favorites - just little snack sized pieces of fluffy heaven. I promise you- you will not be disappointed!!

Popover is a cafe nestled in what looks like a pretty industrial area. I almost mistook it for a car parts store, based on the facade. But Yelp had some great reviews, so off I went. First, the service is lovely, and I'm a huge fan of locally owned businesses! You can tell they care about their shop. I do wish I could give it a higher rating, but for me, the experience was just not what I was hoping for. The coffee was off, and especially since I've had amazing coffee my entire time so far in Hawaii, I was pretty disappointed by this brew. And then my pastry was also nothing to write home about. It tasted like any other brownie I've had, didn't stand out in any way, even with the macadamia nuts. The space itself was set up in an odd way, with two service stations flanking either side of the central seating area. It's also not the cleanest, overall. Sort of bracing its industrial setting, perhaps.

I love this local family enterprise. Top marks on their popovers... perfectly tender but crisp outside and soft and airy inside. I had a fresh hot and yummy popover w a serving of crab bisque that was so excellent I took a serving home for dinner. I got 6 popovers to go and we heated them in the toaster oven over the next three days. They reheated beautifully and were great for breakfast with butter, jam and a nice latte. Don't miss the fun and goodness of this place. read more

BEST CAPPUCINO IN TOWN! Barista explained temp is the key to thick "foam". A heart design tops this cappucino. Too precious! Their popovers are light & used as the base for their sandwiches. Novel idea! Had a breakfast sandwich & it was so ono! The potatoes were perfectly cooked! Definitely will be returning for another. They also serve flatbreads & unique donuts. Will try those eventually. Prices are a little more than a plate lunch but if you're looking for something different made w/quality ingredients & love popovers (I do), definitely give this place a try! Stopped in last minute, about 30 mins before closing. I was greeted by a very friendly employee and she helped me promptly and described all the textures and flavors of their various baked goods. I selected an assortment of goodies. Donuts were delicious, the scone was amazing (not extremely dry like other scones), the cookie (snickerdoodle) was huge and very tasty, the blondie was sweet and nutty, the danish was yummy, the popover was light and airy and the lilikoi butter to go with it compliments it well and lastly the coffee was on point! I got one of the best iced lattes I've ever tasted. Overall, great service, yummy selection of bakery items and very affordable for gourmet desserts. read more

My Popover was so big I could quite close the lid on the box and the lilikoi butter that comes with it is the best. Well worth the stop on our way up to VNP. My sister just loved her Macha dounut. She said the icing was the perfect blend of Mach and sweet. read more

Been meaning to try something from this bakery for a while and today I stopped by and got a couple of donuts. The donuts were the best I've eaten in a long time. Soft on the inside with the right amount of sweetness on the outside. Went back again the next day and ordered a Hamakua mushroom flatbread, a popover turkey sandwich and 4 more assorted donuts. In addition to the donuts being fantastic, the flatbread was so delicious! The turkey sandwich was equally delicious and my partner and I decided we would go back again and try different items as I'm sure we will not be disappointed. I'm also going to ask if they make pies upon request; I hope so. Love this place! read more

This place is so good!! From the food to the coffee to the treats! Anything I've gotten here has been tasty. The staff is incredibly kind and happy. Tasty take on breakfast sandwich especially for those who want an excuse to eat bread pudding for breakfast or lunch (which is what the popover reminds me of). The breakfast popover and turkey avocado version were both very well received. The split popovers with their fillings also look pleasing and fun. They are rich and filling. Friendly, quick service. Coffee is good. Liked the donut OK but will come back for popover. read more

Food was great, so fresh and tasty! Staff were welcoming. If you're looking for a quick, made to order item order call ahead of time. It took 30 minutes for the food to get to the table. We were not in a hurry but will call in an order next time. One suggestion...bus and wipe down tables as customers leave. We could not find a clean table, though there were 4 empty ones. Staff was available but chatting with customers. read more

Wonderful addition to Hilo! The flatbread was delicious and we had the ube and lilikoi donuts which were both a perfect blend of doughy and light...not to heavy and not too sweet. The latte and pour over were the best we have had in town in a long time. Everything we ordered was delicious and we will be back! read more

Checked out this new bakery cafe during their soft opening week. It is a significant upgrade from the bakery that used to use this space! Pastries are less sweet and use higher quality ingredients. This was my first popover...interesting experience. I think if I had visited earlier in the day it would have been better; I found it a bit dry and hard. Nevertheless, sauce was really tasty. The coffee cake was very delicious. Coffee was good. They have a nice menu of flatbreads (basically like a pizza) and popover based sandwiches as well so this could be a nice lunch spot in Hilo. read more

My wife & I enjoyed a wonderful & delicious brunch. We both had the popover breakfast sandwich & I had a pour over Ecuador coffee. We also bought a variety pastries to take home. We had our brunch there because the atmosphere was sweet. Got to meet Alana who took our order & Wil who made my coffee & learned a lot in our conversation. Amazing coffee if you like simplistic/ rugged coffee that exemplifies the coffee bean. The pastries are amazing and unique. The coffee shop itself reminds me of a Oregon Barista set in the heart of Portland. Would recommend this place to any coffee lover. read more

Wow. The lilikoi butter mochi is amazing; I came back a second time the next day to get some more. Perfect texture with crispy cake top and sticky Mochi, and strong Lilikoi flavor. I like that they cut it into thin slices too. The popover was the most giant popover I've ever seen. Not hot but was ok anyhow, and the lilikoi butter with it was rich, smooth, and delicious. read more

I have not tried everything yet, but I did get an array of the tropical fruit tiny croissants. Excellent!!! Good intensity on the fruit flavors and nice flaky layering. Very friendly place. I would opt out of the icing on top next time because it made it sweeter than I prefer, but I have already recommended this place to others and would go back for sure. read more

Um...Where do I begin? Your popovers remind me of my mother's, who passed away in 2014. So first, off the nostalgia got me, then the lilikoi butter kicked it up a notch and I felt like I had discovered a long, forgotten memory. Thank you. Thank you for the sweet lady behind the counter who made me feel like I was home again, your sandwiches are easily 5*****star, your donuts are sublime. Stopped in this morning & picked up two breakfast popovers. They were tasty. Unfortunately, until they do something about the scowling man (wearing a Popover T-Shirt) standing behind the counter, who appeared to have no duties, I will not be back. I walked in, and greeted him "good morning" he scowled & walked away to the coffee machine, ignoring me. A woman came in from the back and pleasantly took my order, also delivering it and taking my payment awhile later. While her customer service skills were great, they couldn't remove the bad taste left by the scowlers rudeness. read more

Crab bisque was delicious! Had a turkey sandwich that was good and very filling, stuffed with fresh veggies. Also had a lilikoi coconut donut and a cappuccino while I waited for my order. Was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavor in the donut! It certainly is very original and exceeded my expectations. And on top of everything else, they made a nice heart design in the coffee foam. Great food and service! Will definitely be back! read more

great new spot. one of the few places you can get good donuts in hilo. tried the cinnamon toast crunch, cherry & ube. everything was pretty good not overly sweet. giving 4 stars cause the ube didn't really taste like ube. i'm an ube fan so i was pretty bummed out when the donut didn't have a strong ube taste. would go back & give it another shot since all the other donuts were good. read more

This place is a gem!…read more My partner & I were looking for healthy food and coffee options in Hilo, but weren't finding much open at 8am. Fortunately, Vibe Cafe exceeded our expectations. Staff was friendly from the moment we walked in (which was right after they turned on the "Open" sign). There were fresh flowers on all the tables (so fragrant!) and modern decor. We got the Jus Avo with egg, strawberry smoothie with protein, coconut yogurt parfait, and a monthly special latte made with Koji rice milk, espresso, and rose petals. The parfait was topped with an edible butterfly, which was such a charming detail! Service was fast (we were in & out in 35 minutes) casual (pay when you order). We also appreciated the ample parking lot. Will definitely be back next time!

My daughter and I wanted to split quads of espresso shots so that was our only order and yet we needed two separate cups with lots of ice in each cup with a little side cream (half and half) so we could make our own iced latte or cappuccino later (we didn't want ice immediately after the espresso was made as it would have diluted the coffee had it been made that way. Sounded like it was a little too much to ask which we felt a bit awkward. The kind lady simply did everything for us. Thanks to her for being so accommodating to our demanding needs!!) After purchase there's no "Thank you" "Have a nice day" it seems like having business was a pain. - The utensils on the side aren't wrapped and all loosely in a container with the fork and spoons handle in first. To me that's unsanitary already, other people's hands are touching it. Dust will also definitely accumulate as old ones won't be switched out just keep getting more added in there. I'll give this place another chance but how our first trip went I'd really like to give it a 0/5. All in all we didn't feel welcomed in there.

But the beef patty and chicken... they were large, so we were really looking forward to them. But they were so bland. Not even salt or pepper, no sauce, garlic powder, nothing.
