Yum yum for my Tum tum!
Steven U.

Pot pies are my comfort food...always has been It's a struggle to find a good pot pie...especially because a lot of the times people call soup with a puff pastry top a pot pie...yeah...no...that's not how that works... In my book, a pot pie has to have crust on the bottom and the top The good news is that Pop Pie delivers! They have a large selection of flavors and the service was very good here. I felt bad for the worker...I had a lot of questions...but you know, I needed to make sure it was what I wanted! I tried the traditional chicken pot pie, as a control. Hot, fresh and delicious, this pot pie is a real hit with my tummy! There was plenty of large chunks of chicken and gravy to make it a perfect blend of textures I will definitely be back to try additional flavors...and dessert!

Ordered a Too Good To Go bag and can't complain what a good deal it was. We got to try the Steak and Chicken pies, both good savory options. The worker was very nice and gave some recommendations based on her own favorites. Will have to be back to try their dessert pies, the Strawberry Rhubarb pie looks amazing! The place is small and they share space with Stella Jeans ice cream, there's a few seats inside. ig: @cravingswithcat

Service: 5/5. We were greeted immediately by a young man at the counter, who was also helpful with recommendations. They have a variety of heated and cold pies, and offer to heat up the cold ones if you wish. It's not just about the filling. The pastries (crusts and crumbles) are so integral to a good pie, and Pop Pie does all of them well. STEAK & ALE: 4/5. Surprisingly herbaceous and extremely hearty. My partner and I ate this around 11AM and were still full enough that we skipped dinner. KEY LIME: 4/5. Starts mellow, then has a strong acidic finish. SALTED CARAMEL APPLE: 4/5. Didn't really get salted caramel, but still really delicious overall. BLUEBERRY APPLE YUZU: 4/5. The apple and yuzu are definitely the stars of this one. BOSS BREAKFAST: 5/5. Bacon, eggs, cheese, potatoes, served with a side of maple syrup. What's not to love? The eggs have a surprisingly strong flavor.

I love key lime pies but seldom ever find one I enjoy. Usually the crust isn't sturdy enough and mushy. The filling either too sweet or doesn't have that nice aroma of lime juice. Sometimes it's all of the above. So consequently, I just never bother getting any as it almost always disappoints me and I just feel ripped off. Well, not so if I get my slices from Pop Pie!!!! I discovered this location by accident when I was fixing to get donuts next door. I don't know what made me pop in to look at pies but I am so glad I did!!!! What an underrated place this is. The service was courteous and efficient. I got 4 different kinds of pies. Two savory and two sweet ones. I honestly wasn't expecting much until I took a bite out of my two sweet pies. I shared with nobody at home because it was too good. My mom couldn't snatch the fork out of my hand fast enough just to try a bite. The key lime pie was very silky and had just enough tartness and sweetness. The crust was sturdy and buttery. Just how I like them. No soggy bottoms and no wet pie sheets looking and tasting greasy. The same with the chocolate pecan pie. Not gritty and not crunchy. But still has the perfect texture and flavors of chocolate and pecans. Loved it. Also enjoyed the breakfast pie that had loads of potatoes and savory meats. This one is not something I would get again. I liked the quiche but not enough to go back just to have more of. Parking here is easy and free right in front of the shop. Amex accepted and totally worth visiting for treats. What a wonderful discovery this was and I can't wait to go back!

This is a good pot pie! Really great crust on the pot pie- nice fluffy and not soggy. Not too salty. But at the end of the day, it's a pot pie and it's only you can eat once a year. It was good, but I don't crave it. Parking is tough and there's nowhere to sit, it's more of a take out place.

Took a drive after so many rainy days and the sunshine was out to greet me. It was a nice drive to Costa Mesa and I thought to get a few savory breakfast pies and a birthday pie. They did not disappoint! Each one was thoughtfully explained by the friendly staff. I bought the Blueberry Apple Yuzu Crumble pie to celebrate our dad's birthday and he is going to be super pleased! Friendly customers all sharing their favorites with one another. Chicken pot pie, Poblano Corn, and many more. They have a delicious sides like creamed corn that I love! Parking is rotational switching in 10 minutes, people leave and you can find a spot. Be patient it's worth it!

A small store front to come pick up personal size pot pies. The friendly staff asked if I had been there before and if I had any questions. The store sold savory and sweet pies with other baked dessert. I picked up the Beef and Ale pot pie with creamed corn. It was a good pairing. The beef pot pie was meaty and the crust was flaky. Forgot to take a picture of the guava pastry, which was tasty. The staff offered to heat up the pastry. The parking can be a bit hard if you go by during lunch. Had to drive around to find parking to do a take out order.

Turkey pot pie

Trying to clean out my freezer Turkey pot pie with cranberry sauce 5/5 This has been in my freezer since Nov? I was supposed to bake it best by 5/25, but I'm a bit shy of the date lol regardless, it tastes great. Air fried it at 350f for 30-40 min or so. Turkey is moist with a bit of texture so it doesn't feel like you're eating limp poultry. There's corn, potatoes, celery, carrots, a touch of rosemary that isn't overly creamy with the roux mixture. Cranberry sauce has a teensy bit of cinnamon and leans more sweet than tart. Crust is flakey and buttery. Not as crunchy as other spots, but solid for a pie crust. It was $11 or $12? Not bad to have this in the freezer long term. Two people can split one for a hefty snack or you can eat a whole one and potentially fall asleep.

Came here after seeing a few TikToks about it. The interior is a small storefront with a display case of their pies and a few tables if you want to eat there. We tried the classic chicken pot pie and the green pork and cheese pot pie. The chicken was warm and comforting, though I do wish the chicken pieces were cut a bit smaller because they were kind of dry. The pork pie had a generous amount of meat and great flavor, but was also slightly dry. Overall, a solid choice and I would consider coming back to try different flavors.

I've been a big fan of Pop Pie for years and have happily driven out of my way just to get their chicken pot pie and other delicious flavors. However, I had a very concerning experience with my most recent visit. I purchased a chicken pot pie yesterday and nearly choked on a bone that was inside. It was alarming and has made me hesitant to continue purchasing what used to be one of my favorites. I truly hope they improve their quality control -- consistency and safety are everything, especially with food. Unfortunately, this experience drops my rating to 2 stars.

Steven W.

Really delicious from savory to sweet, there is something for everyone. The ground beef pie was meaty and hearty and not salty. The chicken pot pie was traditional and classic and the crust is just fluffy and light, goes so well with the gravy. Decent size pies and service is really friendly and you can eat inside and outside.

(D) Key Lime Pie - Slice
Arthur E.

Awesome key lime pie - had to get adjusted to the pie crust for it though, it's a typical pie crust vs. a graham cracker-style crust. Probably would prefer a graham cracker-style crust honestly, but the filling was legit (sweet and tangy) with just enough cream on top (not too much, not too little). There's some stool seating and two tables outside - so not a place to hang for too long. The ice cream next door is legit too. Would come back if I'm around the area and try some of the savory things as well.

(D) The Boss Breakfast Pie
Julie E.

Are you kidding me? I've lived next to this place for years and just on a whim decided to try it and I'm so mad at myself for not going here sooner. I am a pot pie lover, but very few places get it right but this place? They do it very right! My fiancé ran in and ordered for us, so I can't really say anything about the decor/ambiance nor did he say anything negative about the service he was provided but the food?! Delicious! I got the green hog and cheese and I found myself saying "mmm" after every bite and when it was done I was sad. My fiancé got the OG, classic chicken and it was creamy and stuffed with yummy ingredients. We also had to get the boss (breakfast pie) which with sriracha, ketchup, and the syrup they provide, was delicious but on its own, it lacked flavor and was dry but to be fair we were getting it at 3pm on a Saturday and these aren't made to order though breakfast is served all day. They're kept in a heated display box and then warmed up when ordered so I won't completely disregard the breakfast pie, I'll just have to try it fresher. We also got the lemon curd and mixed berry hand pie which we didn't try till the next day as we were too full but it was delicious! The filling was perfect, half and half so every bite you got both flavors. I can't wait to come back here and try more things!

When we ordered the cinnamon roll, there was no option to heat it up, so we thought they would have done it already. When it was served, it was rock solid. So, we asked them to heat it up. However, after a few minutes, it still wasn't that gooey and the inner core was still pretty tough. Perhaps they could have warmed it up so that it was evenly softened. Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!

I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.

A month ago we started milling our own flour at home and realized how hard it is, and how short the shelf life is, which made us appreciate Eller even more! Recently we came in for breakfast (which runs us $100+ for a family of 4) and asked Mickey (the guy in charge up front) if ALL of their pastries use fresh milled flour to which he responded "Yes everything uses fresh milled flour. This is the healthiest place you'll eat." Something was weird the way he said it though...he sounded almost defensive. Then we were eating outside and we saw a bunch of 25lb bags of flour stacked inside through the window. Obviously those were not fresh milled (and they didnt even say organic). Something smelled off. The next week we came in again, this time we were determined to get answers. We asked the cashier when they run the giant flour mill that's displayed next to the register. He said usually at night, but it wasn't working right now. Then we asked if they use 100% fresh milled flour in their pastries, to which he replied "Yes, everything up here uses freshly milled flour." Hmmmm. Then we asked if the mill isn't working, how are they getting all the fresh milled flour? He started stuttering, thinking what to say, then said they get the flour from someone else who's milling it for them. Oh ok... Then we asked about the giant stack of 25lb bags of flour sitting behind him, and he starting stuttering even more, then finally said "Well...not everything uses fresh milled flour. There are some changes going on right now. Only the items that say 'Heritage' use fresh flour" (which was 3 of the 12 or so items on display). We asked if these were short term changes and if they would go back to fresh milled flour to which he replied "No, these changes are permanent. That's all I can say right now. Sorry." So....TWO different employees lied to us about the ingredients they're using. Obviously the 2nd person had been coached on what to say. Now we are wondering how long this has been going on, and if they were ever using 100% fresh milled flour?!? I don't know what's going on at this place but, when it comes to food, honesty and transparency are MANDATORY. Had they been upfront about this I wouldn't have come to write this review. But if you're going to lie to customers faces, especially ones who have promoted you over the years, well, here's your review. Fingers crossed they wake up and start being honest with the people supporting them.

I could go on and on about them... seriously. This time we had to come try their collab with Cake Picnic, which was the golden hour grey donut. Let me tell you, it was bomb.com. The orange flavor was phenomenal and I have no notes. We also got the strawberry donut and hot chocolate with almond milk, both obviously very good as well. It was my first time getting the hot chocolate and I was honestly surprised with how yummy it was. It was not too chocolatey and not too milky. It was the perfect balance and the perfect pairing with the donuts.

Churros like no other! I usually ask for no sugar since…read moretheir choux pastry dough is just right- specially when you get the churros with the español coco- perfect nice thick dipping hot cocoa with the right amount of bitterness and sweet. Truly the only way to eat churros- enjoying the simplicity of the light and airy crunch pastry and the rich bitter-sweet chocolate. We stopped by the location at the Mercado Market- the place was amazing and truly worth a visit. The stall was located across the market's bakery. You have a view of the people cooking the churros and preparing your order. Given that the stall in inside the market, it was vibrant and lively. I would pick up lunch at the market, grab churros and hot cocoa or coffee for dessert at El Moro and then shop at the market and bring home more goodies!

The people were friendly and the Churros were delicious! Fast forward to today 5/5/26....haven visited for a while but what happened? All the friendly experts are gone. The people working there don't know what they are doing at all, the line was relatively short, about 4 people in front of me, but somehow it took longer than it did before. I placed my order with sugar only, no cinnamon, like I have since I was a child. The person at the window calls my name and hands me a bag, I check the churros they have cinnamon, I explained that I ordered with sugar only. She rolls her eyes and hands me another bag with plain/naked churros, no sugar. I again explain to her that I ordered churros with sugar but without cinnamon. She "dumps" the churros out of the bag into the sugar, breaking one of them, I asked her to replace the broken one, I again get attitude and flips me off when she thinks I'm not looking. This is not the service I am used to from Le Moro or Northgate. I do have to say that every other employee of the store was helpful and friendly, but employees at El Moro need additional training. I wonder if all the good ones were pulled to their new location in LA. I will have to find out, even if I have to drive you won't see me standing in line at this El Moro again. It's a shame that such a wonderful jewel brought from Mexico is not being managed to their reputation. Sad
