So I thought I would give the new breakfast place in town a try since we just got back from vacation and the fridge is empty. As I entered today, I was told that they are now doing table service. Previously I guess one would place an order and sit down with one's food. Anyway, table service is definitely a new concept for the waitstaff. My coffee didn't get refilled without me searching someone out, the check didn't come nor was it offered. I think I could have walked out without paying for my breakfast. The decor is beautiful. The coffee was good. The popover was good, although one of them had a half-rotten strawberry on the plate as a garnish. read more

Cute little place in downtown Simsbury. I went with a family member a few Saturdays ago for breakfast. We arrived around 8:30 or 9 and sat inside. The service was reeeeally slow which seemed odd to me because there seemed to be quite a few people working for the number of customers inside at the time. Sadly I didn't enjoy the coffee, it was too strong or maybe too bitter for me, I couldn't figure it out but regardless I felt it was overpriced. Oddly, while we were waiting for our food, they suddenly turned the music up super loud to the point that it was difficult to maintain a conversation with my family member. Please note, it was not the customers getting loud, it was the music inside being turned up super loud, followed by everyone having to shout to hear each other, like a bar on a Friday night. It was clear they were trying to appeal to a younger crowd but honestly it was just too much for me. I got a popover which was pretty tasty but due to the slow service and loud music I'm undecided if I would go back. read more

Great menu, great taste. We want to go there again - and it's much more than just popovers!

We were delighted by the excellent food and service. The stuffed popovers are huge and delicious. The rich tasting coffee is served in large mugs and is refilled quickly. The interior is clean and charming. Parking is ample and close by. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back again soon. read more

Popover Bistro & Bakery - Classic popover. Eggs and cheese. Fantastic! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Simsbury, Connecticut

I stopped by for the first time with friends, and we had a great experience. We had to please a vegan, a pescetarian, and a carnivore, and everyone was happy with the selection. The good: - The place is adorably decorated, uncluttered, and clean. - Our lunches were all delicious. I had the chickpea sunflower smash wrap. It was filling, slightly tangy, and came with a side of freshly cooked sweet potato chips. - The vegan triple chocolate cookie was the size of my face and was incredible (I ended up taking it home and eating it throughout the day). Honestly, if I lived closer, I would buy that cookie all the time. My friend ate one of the lemon bars and loved it. The bad: - My only complaint is that the online menu is different from the menu I received on a Saturday afternoon. I was really looking forward to trying the vegan chicken salad or falafel, but I don't recall either being on the paper menu. However, my wrap was still tasty. read more

I enjoyed a lovely evening with my fellow Yelpers at Popover. The atmosphere is very casual bistro with interesting lights and art on the walls. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. You can tell the staff is committed to the place by how attentive and helpful they are. Then there is the food. We were welcomed with giant warm delicious popovers served with house made apple butter. The apple butter was so good, it was gone. Next up was deep fried Brussels sprouts. I have never gone back for seconds on Brussels sprouts before. These were served with a honey sciracha mayo. Crispy, unusual and tasty. Soon after the sprouts came plates of chicken and waffles. This dish is a southern staple usually served with copious amounts of syrup and hot sauce simultaneously. Popovers take on this dish included some cheese and bacon layered with the chicken on the best waffle I have ever eaten. The chicken was topped with a little sweetened sciracha. I would have liked a little more of the hot sauce but I understand you don't want to go overboard on the spice when feeding a crown. In keeping with the mission of Popovers which is "healthy bistro" a delicious locally sourced spinach salad was served along with the chicken and waffles. Finally we were treated to a tray of gluten free cookies. Not that you would know they were gluten free. Overall this is a great little place in Simsbury. I plan on returning to try their brunch. I love breakfast! read more

This place is amazing! My friend brought me here as a treat, for breakfast. Our waitress was such a delight! Her smile just brightened my day for starters, but her spunky personality, great sense of humor and passion for her job was just the icing on this little gem! I had eggs (over medium), potatoes and a popover with their honey butter. Holy moley. Incredible. That honey butter was such a perfect touch for that popover! I had local coffee from Giv coffee house on RT. 44 in Canton... It was outstanding. I do have to admit, though I have some valid reasoning, I'm a total coffee snob. Giv coffee truly was a great coffee! A nice rich roast, a bold flavor, and just the smell of the aromatics in it... Mm. Jeff & Emily at Giv know what they're doing! Plus LOTS OF GF options!! Anyone in the area needs to stop here! Great spot! Such a cool little interior as well. Love it! read more

Great food, from an owner who is conscious of the world around her. Love this place.

Best breakfast ever! My husband and I heard great things about Popover Bistro and it didn't disappoint. I had the Protein Egg sandwich which had delightful applewood smoked bacon. In addition their yogurt parfait was so creamy! read more

My husband and I have gone twice since it opened. It has promise but I think a few kinks need to be worked out still. First time, we went for a late lunch. He ordered the hanger steak salad, which he said was excellent. I had the Cabot grilled cheese, which came with a tasty side salad. The service, while everyone was friendly, was quite slow. There were maybe one or two other tables in use when we were there and the food took quite a bit of time to come out. I had ordered a popover on the side, which they initially forgot to bring out, but then they brought out 2. The popover is just okay. It doesn't have much "popping over" and I am surprised that it is not offered as a side to more of their meals, seeing as how it is their namesake. It is also pricey, in my opinion, at $4 for one. Today we were on a bike ride through downtown and decided to stop in again for Sunday brunch/lunch. My husband had the hanger steak salad again, which was just as good as the first time. I ordered the Wonder Woman egg sandwich. Unfortunately I didn't specify how the egg should be cooked and assumed that it would be fried over hard, like most fried egg sandwiches. It came out with a distinctly runny/over easy egg, which is just not my taste at all. My fault for assuming, although I do think the menu should specify that eggs will be cooked over easy in the sandwiches. The staff was very nice and prepared me another sandwich, although I didn't think there was anything special about the flavor. Service was once again friendly but a bit slow. It feels like they are trying to get used to everything so I am hopeful that once they are settled it will be a nice little splurge. The inside is quite nice and clean and they offer various vegan/gluten-free items if that is your thing (it's not mine but there's plenty of other offerings). It is a bit pricey for some items but that is likely due to the sourcing of local ingredients. read more

Maybe I expected something better ... I recently ordered a popover filled with scrambled eggs, corned beef and cheese. I thought: creamy eggs, tender moist corned beef, melted yummy cheese and tasty home fries. Unfortunately the eggs were dry, the corned beef was dry and stringy, no cheese, and the home fries were undercooked. I left most of it on the plate. I did eat the popover as it was quite tasty, but it really could have used a moister filling. The place is very attractive and comfortable and the service very friendly. Everybody loves this place! read more

Ambiance: 5 stars Food: 4 stars Service: 2 stars Overall Grade: 3.5 stars Agree with Dan's review completely. Mimosas and brunch were great (although my friend left hungry -- smaller portioned sandwiches). This is my third time here and unfortunately the service has not improved: no greeting, no silverware/ menus, no refills, special requests ignored, had to hunt down the waitress hiding in the back for a check... It's too bad the service is so poor cuz I really want to like this place. read more

On the basis of one visit, this recently became...probably my favorite lunch spot in downtown Simsbury. I was feeling overenthusiastic and exploratory, so I ordered more food than I really needed: a hanger steak sandwich, a cup of corn chowder, and a popover. Wouldn't have changed a thing about any of the food. The steak was tender and juicy; the corn chowder had a light, complex flavor; and the popover had a perfect texture: cracker-crispy on the top, softer & denser in the middle. Some of the lighter options on the menu looked almost equally tempting. I'll have to come back another day. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant. The popovers are awesome with just honeybutter but their savory popovers are also an interesting alternative to your traditional sandwich. They have a very unique farm to table style menu and their signature smoothies are delicious. Breakfast is served all day, who doesn't love that! read more

Popover Bistro & Bakery - Veggie popover breakfast and strawberry blonde smoothie - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Simsbury, Connecticut

So glad that Simsbury has a breakfast place where I can find a gluten free, egg free, dairy free breakfast. I especially like their roasted veggie hash with a side of applewood smoked bacon. The service is friendly but slow and a bit disorganized and frantic. Still, the food is solid, and the atmosphere is perfect. read more

This place is very good. Draws a huge crowd so sometimes there can be a wait, but worth it. I usually get a breakfast sandwich and always good. My husband likes the eggs benedict or corned beef with eggs and sausage. read more

Lovely new lunch and breakfast place. We sat outside today. Not many tables but we were able to grab one. It was very busy there but our server was still very attentive. The food was yummy. My companion had specific requested about her food and it came out correctly. I had the falafel the sauce was a little spicy, I wasn't expertly that. I still enjoyed it. A great place to grab lunch. read more

Omg I'm so full! Literally bursting at the seams but I want to keep eating! It's always my problem here, everything is so good! Today I had the tomato soup (better than my mom's, but don't tell her!) and the Max's Melt with hangar steak. As my lunch companion put it...I'm gonna be dreaming about this sandwich tonight. Really cute atmosphere, sweet staff, local organic ingredients, fresh smoothies AND baked goods oh and let's not forget the namesake, their popovers! Always hot from the oven and they come with a sweet, maple syrup?? butter.. Ridiculous! You really can't go wrong! read more

This place is a Gem! Diamond in the ruff! Had some hot chocolate on a cold day with 2 popovers and their Southerner (Chicken & Waffles) (live a little and get extra syrup). Not one thing disappointed me. They were busy but had a nice atmosphere. No one was in a hurry even the wait staff which I appreciated... too many people are all about that hussle and bussle life and don't really notice or enjoy all that's around them...this place gives you the chance to wind down and enjoy the small stuff. Gluten Free Items seems to be a hit as I observed many request for them. People also loved the fresh produce coming out of the kitchen. Found on yelp while staying in a hotel next to the airport. Well worth the 20 min drive through small quaint towns. Loved everything about this experience. Try anything on the menu I guarantee you wont leave disappointed! read more

Are. You. Kidding. A popover bakery?! The nostalgia hit me hard when I walked in. When is the last time you had a popover?!? Stopped in for a quick bite. The soup of the day was tomato bisque and it was amazing! The popover literally just made me smile. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars because my complaint does not warrant a whole star being taken away. That being said, there was a hair in my lemonade which was a little icky. If it wasn't for that little error (which can and does happen everywhere), this place would get 5 stars. Excellent!! I'll be back. read more

The Summer Vegetable Hash is absolutely sublime here. So flavorful and perfectly cooked. Not much food for the $14 price, but definitely worth trying. My dad had the Corned Beef Hash, which he enjoyed but seemed almost twice the size as mine! If you get takeout be aware that takeout probably isn't very common for them, so keep an eye on the area around the register for sitting bags of takeout, they got really busy with seating people and forgot about ours. read more

Writing this and thinking of their amazing popovers with the honey butter makes my mouth water. The popovers, whether warm or room temperature are a perfect 10. Counter service can be ridiculously slow. Attendant once ignored me for ten minutes and when I asked if I could place an order, she got snippy and rude with me. Not acceptable. I've sat down and ordered and meal was served promptly. Salad greens were fresh and delicious. read more

Good place! Great yelp offer for free popover and $2.50 coffee! Service was nice and fast free WiFi with ample outlets

Love this little gem in Simsbury! We had a morning 'off' (our girls were spending the day with my parents) so we decided to go out for brunch. This is a big deal to parents of 4 and 2 year olds! Drinking coffee while it's still hot? Not having to feed a little while my breakfast gets cold? Somebody else clearing the plates? Needless to say... my hopes were HIGH! The atmosphere is charming and bright and the staff was as welcoming as the decor. I couldn't tell you if there was music or not because all I heard was angels singing when we saw that they serve Giv coffee. My lifeblood! I wish I could remember the name of the 'breakfast sandwich' (it was really more of a feast on a plate) I had, but it was served between sourdough bread and beyond delicious. Normally I'd offer my husband a bite, but this brunch-time delight brought out a very selfish side of me ;-) The popovers looked and smelled amazing, but we were way too full after our meals to try anything else. We cannot wait to come back soon! read more

This is probably the only place in town that has great coffee and good veggie options for breakfast and lunch. Simsbury has an overwhelming amount of uninspired food and halfass coffee and Poppver bucks that trend in good style. I visit family in town a few times a year and always make a stop in, if only this place were here when I actually lived in the valley. read more

I was really looking forward to eating here as it came on recommendation of a friend when I told her I'd be in this area. I love coffeehouses and unique offerings so I decided to try the Lavender Latte w/ almond milk. I didn't love it at first -- the lavender subtle was in contrast to the bitter coffee, but it did finally grown on me. I ordered a popover for the table and sadly none of my companions really thought much of it. It was very plain - and maybe we just assumed it would be sweeter or that the honey butter would change that. I did find that covered in maple syrup it was quite yummy. I also ordered the Veggie popover (b/c I had such high hopes of the popover) and was really disappointed. The popover didn't add anything to the overall appeal. It was soggy from the scramble. There just wasn't much overall flavor. I'm giving it 3 stars b/c I really wanted to like this place and think maybe my orders that day were just bad choices for me. I loved the atmosphere and the service was fast and friendly. I would go back but would not order the same items (or any popovers). read more

We always come by for popovers. Coffee here is very good as well. They are huge! We buy 6 of the popovers and eat half of them in the car ride home. The popovers come with honey butter. Very nice cafe! Staff is super friendly and helpful. We always come back! read more

I had been confused about what Popover was, before I went into Popover. It's a great resto with the new style Americano. We came in for breakfast; I had the GF chicken and waffles, and my wife had the Belgian. We were very happy with my food. If there were more younger people in the area this placed would be very busy. Great food (albeit with the new wave favs of quinoa and kale, it's mixed in with steaks). It would work for a great brunch destination (they had a list of tasty libations) ...support you LOCAL read more

The food is not only farm fresh, it's a unique breakfast place in the sense that serving the first meal of the day inside a delicious flaky popover isn't easy to come by. They have so many breakfast choices that range from an acai bowl to the many different kind of stuffed popovers. I have visited many times but my choice today was a Spanish popover with eggs, black beans, avocado, and pico de gallo. So. freaking. good. I also love their coffee, its local and just really really flavorful! I will say that the prices are on the higher side but hey, it's Simsbury. Super casual and they have a good assortment or morning treats like home made muffins and cakes. read more

Popover Bistro & Bakery was delicious and very accommodating to my 21 month old son who wouldn't sit still. We loved the popover with honey butter- so so good! Good, not great. Loved the sweet potato fries. Chicken kale Caesar salad was good, a little overpriced. Sadly, the most disappointing item at Popover Bistro was the popover itself. Would return for a quick lunch and a second try. read more

Big fan of Popover. The popovers are great. Nice restaurant with fresh ingredients. The sweet potato fries are a 10/10

Great place to eat with a large variety of food and drinks to choose from. Great breakfast and lunches, and I highly recommend the Irish Pop! Really nice breakfast find in Simsbury. Next to Farmington Heritage rail-trail. The 3 OE eggs were cooked perfectly Two thick strips of Applewood bacon and huge link of tasty chorizo sausage. The place is very clean and nicely decorated. The waitress was very friendly and the kitchen was super fast. I was the only one there though. She made a perfect custom ordered Bloody. Only negative was the three wait staffers were doing their silverware / napkin thing and yakking loudly. Kind of distracted my reading. Shortly thereafter the place started getting busy and the yakking dissipated nicely. read more

Stopped in since this place seemed like a unique offering in the area. Arrived for lunch and was pleased with the specialty coffee/tea drinks and apps. Not sure if we just happened to come in on and "off day", but sadly the popovers were soggy on the inside and crunchy and tasteless on the outside. As a result our entrees were not great. The service was also quite slow for a restaurant that was only about half full. Would return, to give them another shot, but walked away feeling lucky I was able to use my corporate card and not my own money! read more

I liked this place, casual, friendly, helpful staff-but it can be very crowded at meal times. You must stand and wait for a table in a small foyer area. They do have a hostess to help keep track of the seating order. I would recommend this restaurant to vegans. I had the Trendy Vegan Sammie and it was very good though a bit on the bland side being all vegan egg and vegan cheese and had no dressing with some sort of spiciness to it that I would have preferred. My friend had a French Toast BLT that she said was marvelous. It looked huge. The popovers looked HUGE also. Desserts are limited. The coffee is very strong more like espresso but that's how I love it. read more
