Never had a bad experience here. Great food. Nice environment. The Popovers are so good.

We have been waiting for our chance to have a nice breakfast here. After voting today we headed here for some yummy eats. The decor is casual, coffee shop type decor with chalk drawn pictures and writing on the walls, small tables, and good smells. We were seated right away. They serve Giv brand coffee which is a great coffee shop in Canton so I was excited. Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't very hot, more like warm. After putting cream it wasn't long before it was cold. We wanted refills but our server wasn't very attentive to that. I had to flag her down and ask, to which she said sure but then cleared a table before bringing it. The next cup also lacked heat so I just left it and was disappointed with that part of it meal. The food was a much better experience. I ordered the Irish pop which is scrambled eggs, corned beef hash and cheese inside a popover. Now that was excellent! Plenty of meat in the hash, large diced potatoes, and a good amount of eggs. My husband ordered the corned beef hash breakfast with eggs, toast and sausage. Man, talk about meat lovers! So much corned beef, not the chopped up pieces either. Big hunks of meat! A large sausage, two over easy eggs and sourdough toast. It was so much he brought half the corned beef home! The meal cost around $37 without tip and we both felt fulfilled. I don't know if I would bring children here, it isn't a loud atmosphere and seating is somewhat tight. They do have seating outside but they are bar tables. Even though the coffee was lacking we enjoyed our visit and the food. We will be back again, maybe I'll try the tea next time. read more

A very small cafe but so worth the visit! Fun atmosphere, with delicious coffee and specialty drinks. The food service is a little slow, but the food is really good. We ordered the Southerner and French Toast BLT, both were so so so good but the Southerner was the start of the show. read more

First time to eat at Popover. Not good, wait 45 min for table, one hour for food. Service inconsistent. I know Covid affected businesses but Popover should of waited to get more organized. Our waitress did the best she could do. Kitchen slowed her down considerably. I felt for her. read more

This place is hands down amazing! I've been here multiple times over the past few years and their food and service have always been excellent. Their open face popover sandwiches are great - I've tried the smoked salmon, protein, and veggie varieties and they were all great! The portions are huge, so these are great to split as well! Love the use of fresh local ingredients throughout their menu. Their honey butter served alongside popovers is to die for!!! If you're looking for a fall beverage, give their coconut pumpkin spice latte a try! It was delish!! I will definitely be coming back for some more of that this fall. All in all, this is a cute local brunch spot you've got to try! read more

This is one of my and my daughter's favorite breakfast/brunch/lunch spots. Hearty healthy yummy options. Great bakery treats too. Can't beat the coffee/juice bar menu either! GF options for those of us who need that! read more

I went on a Sunday morning and order the veggie wrap and a sauce egg and cheese sandwich and potatoes. They were very busy but handled it appropriately. I was disappointed with the food as it had no taste. The veggie wrap was cold I feel like they should specify that in the description bc it says veggies will be roasted. The wrap was very bland with only hummus to taste the description said balsamic vinegar. The potatoes were bland and hard. My husband said the sandwich also had no taste. I could've made better food at home. The sandwich was also wrapped bad it was falling apart you need to wrap sandwiches in tin foil not parchment paper. We didn't even finish the food it was so Unpleasing. read more

Popover catered my large film crew of 60 people. Pam was able to provide an amazing variety of breakfast and lunch items for our team; This included: gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options - suitable for everyone's needs. The meals were delicious and filling - everyone was happy! If you ever have a large group with a lot of special diets in Simsbury/Hartford area - go to Popover for a pleasant and yummy experience. read more

We were beyond delighted to discover Popover this weekend. Between us, we had multiple gluten-free folk, a couple of vegetarians, two devoted meat eaters, some healthy eating types, and some sweet treat indulgers, and I can honestly say we were ALL happy with our food. We ate a takeout brunch in our cars, in below-freezing weather, and STILL we were happy with our Popover experience. For a few details, I had the roast veggie hash with scrambled eggs, and it was perfect (lots of delicious veggies roasted perfectly and a good portion of eggs). Others had the oatmeal banana nuts something, salmon toast, protein popover (but on gf bread), and a croissant sandwich. The people working there were friendly and helpful, the food was ready when we requested it (we ordered on line), and the bathrooms were clean and available. There was some talk of moving to Simsbury just to eat there again.... read more

Always a very good breakfast with nice creative options. I had the celly breakfast sandwich and it was very good. Latte was pretty good too. Never had a bad experience or breakfast here. read more

Came here twice in two days, and wanted to give them a second chance after the first experience but both times had not very good service (from two different people). Was overcharged both times and had to ask them to update/correct the bill. Neither time was offered water, and it just seemed like both servers felt inconvenienced by helping me. Additionally, the last time, I ordered a lavender lemonade to go and was told they were out and couldn't make it only to hear someone tell my server that they found more but still not have her offer to make it. (??) Food was decent, but I won't come back for it. read more

And that's not all... if you'd rather have toast with avocado and all kinds of other treats this is also your place ..... and bowls they also have bowls!!! Check it out! read more

Great food, but a little overpriced. When we're able to, we love sitting outside on the patio. My boyfriend loves all of their steak dishes and you can almost never go wrong with any of their drinks. read more

Such a great find. Had a popover with scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Was pretty fantastic. Sat at the bar and got good, fast service. Not too loud, and they had crayons for my little guy. Coffee was good as well. I'll be back. read more

Consistently good. We love the hash and popovers, the brussel sprouts are a great side.

In from out of town, my first experience here was pretty positive, so I wondered if it would be consistent. Went back today and sure enough, quite good again. The staff is the first bright spot. These young people are polite, positive, well spoken, familiar with the menu and hustle. It seemed to be very consistent across the staff. They also seem to have plenty of staff so you get attention. A+ The food is the second bright spot. The menu is interesting and flavorful. The ingredients, breads, cheeses, bacon & CORNED BEEF(!!!), are first quality. I have had lame, sliced corned beef in so many places, I had to call out the real corned beef used here. A+. It's a cute place, very inviting, well decorated in a modern rustic manner. Homey and warm, but not dated or overdone. They seem to make great use of the space without making people feel crunched in. A+ I'd say this is the best breakfast, brunch, lunch place in the area, by far. I will certainly be back and could not recommend Popover more highly. read more

Really fantastic food and even more fantastic staff. Our waitress was so patient with us as new residents to the area. She offered suggestions on the food and always was smiling. The food was outstanding. We will be back! read more

I went there for my birthday brunch and although I had to wait awhile... it was worth it! The staff was extremely pleasant and did their best with a crazy rush. The portions are huge, the quality of food great and they have vegan options. I will always recommend calling ahead and even if they tell you there's no wait insist on putting your name down! read more

We love Popover Cafe! They make great tomato bisque soup with a huge Popover for $7! I live the Southener-chicken and gluten free waffle with cheese. My daughter loves the Nutella/Banana pancakes as well. It's a super place for healthy food-gluten free, dairy free, etc. I wish they would bring back the Nutella Magic Bars-those things were heaven! read more

Food gets four stars but our amazing, engaging, wait person Zachary gets five stars. Excellent customer service.

Service here is very hit or miss, and probably somewhere around 3 stars when averaged out...that being said, the food is consistently good. Went this weekend when it was super busy/packed, and happened to have excellent service. I've been when it's slow and staff are far from being too busy, and have had the worst service. I finally tried one of the popover breakfasts on my recent visit - the protein pop - which is a popover split in half, then piled high with eggs, mushrooms, bacon, and apple chicken sausage - supper yummy! Their corned beef hash is also tasty, and I'm a big fan of their avocado toasts - they really load these up with toppings. I know I'll be back, even though service is spotty, because the food has never been disappointing. Best for breakfast/brunch foods! read more

Reviews of this place look GREAT....We were able to get a table right away in a Saturday morning. Our waitress greeted us seemingly quite annoyed that we were not locals. She asked for our drink order and shortly returned with my daughter & friends lemonade. No straws provided. My daughter looked around the restaurant and saw everyone had a straw. Waitress then returned with my cappuccino and I asked if the girls could have straws for their lemonade. Her response was oh we're short on straws and I was trying to conserve them. What??? She did then provide straws. I had the yelp app Open on my phone and clicked the free pop over offer just as she returned. She seemed annoyed of this as well. Oh well, don't offer it if you don't want to deliver. My daughter ordered the West coaster and enjoyed it very much. Her friend ordered the Emma T and was happy as well. I ordered the Veggie Pop. First few bites were delicious but then I hit the SALT section of my meal. Sooo much SALT it crunched in between my teeth. I did not eat anymore. Waitress returned later, never asked why I had not eaten my breakfast and provided the check. Nice atmosphere, great music and clean. Perhaps a friendlier waitress and a little less salt. read more

I love how they serve healthy options here. I got the pumpkin smoothie bowl and it was delicious! I have had their popovers before which are also really good. The owners and servers are friendly and accomodating. I felt more than comfortable dining inside as servers were wearing masks and making sure people coming into the restaurant were social distancing. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Cute place with great service and good food! Ive been for brunch twice now and all the staff are very friendly. Everything we ordered was delish: French toast BLT, caprese toast, eggs, hash, roasted potatoes, chamomile latte. They have vegan and gluten free options. I'll definitely go back! read more

The food is great especially for those with food allergies, they have a few dairy free and gluten free options. The egg dishes, the popovers and the healthy options are all awesome and allow you to come back multiple times without repeating your order if you want. The Irish pop is my personal favorite, a creative way to serve breakfast, a popover fill with a delicious combination of eggs, corned beef and potatoes. The downside.. their coffee may be the worst I have ever had. It's from Giv coffee, a local roaster and I love to support local, but it's so bitter it makes me sick to drink it. We have also found the customer base can be horrific, lots of parents who let their kids run wild and rude people talking on their phones loudly as if they were the only person in the room. We go out for breakfast often and would love to come here more but we will be bringing in Starbucks from next door for now on because breakfast requires coffee, good coffee, not the bitter garbage they serve here. And if the waitstaff could control their guests this place would be five stars instead of two.. when a customer is being a loud asshole don't just smile and let it happen, they should explain that the customer needs to take their call outside and not disturb the other customers trying to enjoy a meal. read more

I have to say, its a bit expensive but definitely worth it, been here many times, service is always slow but thats fine, its a great relaxing breakfast, always fresh and very creative. Its for sure our favorite breakfast spot, dont plan on lunch because the portions are huge!. **Taking away a star, the last 2 times we have been there, the service has gooworse, its not only slow and terrible. You wait 40 minutes for food and dont have silverware or get offered a 2nd cup of coffee? One time I can forgive, but after a couple times its a pattern. It will be a while before we go back. read more

The place is modestly sized, but that's part of the charm. While we were part of a long wait, it was expected at the peak time of lunch. The place cleared up around 2 and it was a quiet, comfortable cafe vibe. A delicious experience and the atmosphere was well-worth the wait for a table to clear up! The menu is pretty satisfactory for those with gluten-free and even Paleo needs, or if you'd like a delicious and wholesome brunch or breakfast experience with all natural ingredients. They grow local and the prices were within reason. read more

We were delighted to stumble upon this wonderful bistro for lunch while vacationing in the area. They have a terrific selection of delicious salads and other bowls, stuffed popovers (their signature item), avocado toast, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and baked goods. I had a house salad (the salads are huge, and we split one) which had with tomato, cucumber, homemade croutons, and a honey balsamic vinaigrette, and came with one of their large popovers on the side, For a small charge, they split the plate for us and gave us an additional popover. You can add a protein to any of the salads (chicken, steak, salmon, or black bean quinoa. The baked goods and breads are gluten free, and oh so delicious! They source local organic products for healthy and tasty options. Try the Lavender Lemonade! It's made with Wild Moon Lavender liqueur, Tito's Vodka, San Pellegrino, & Lemonade, and it was very refreshing. We will definitely be coming back. read more

We came to Popovers for the first time today for breakfast. The good: There were plenty of options to please two carnivores, a vegetarian, and a gluten-free friend. The food, once it came, was three and a half star-worthy overall. The standout item was gluten-free chicken and waffles, a rare find. The bad: As others mentioned, the service at Popovers was abominable. 1. We had to ask two, three, even four times for every item we ordered. 2. Our server forgot to put our order in, until we asked where our food was after waiting 40 minutes. OK, mistakes happen. He promised free baked goods and never followed through. We waited another 25 minutes for our food. At that point we were so frustrated it was hard to enjoy the meal. 3. Worse, no one ever came to our table to apologize; we had to flag down the owner. She took money off our bill after hearing our experience, which we appreciated. 4. BUT THEN we then sat with our credit card on the table for ANOTHER 10 minutes before finally giving up and going up to the server station to pay so we could finally leave. Writing this review so that hopefully the service here improves. From reading others' reviews, this is clearly a real persistent problem. read more

Dropped in on a Sunday around 2:30 for a quick look at this new restaurant. Pretty empty and yet the two young waitresses seemed well ... Distracted. We ordered an ice coffee and a regular coffee thinking it would be better than just handing it over our money to Starbucks next door. After ten minutes we asked the girls if they Forgot us. Yep. The bakery items were picked over so we stayed with drinks only. The coffee was old. You know the bitter taste when coffee has been laying around all morning. We just threw them away when we got home. Maybe will try one more time. read more

The good - awesome food & local ingredients The bad - horrible service I really wanted to like this place, but as others have said, the good food was outweighed by the bad service. The inside is super cute with lots of wooden decorations, a menu that boasts local ingredients (always a plus in my opinion) and a New Years Day brunch special including mimosas and popovers 'for the table'. We got here for a late brunch around 1pm on New Years day and the place was packed. We were told it was a 15 minute wait. Well over half an hour later, another party walked in and was seated immediately (before us and the other couple waiting patiently). At this point we nearly left. When we were finally seated, out waitress seemed annoyed to be serving us. She came over without a greeting, only "are you ready yet?". She never asked if we needed anything else or how we liked our food - we practically had to beg for the popover that was included in the special. We also saw her try to clear the plates of the table next to us 3 times when they were clearly not done.. rushing people along. Onto the food. The food was amazing, the drinks mediocre. I got an espresso smoothie with the Simsbury Feast - 3 eggs, home fries, bread, sausage and bacon. The $8 espresso smoothie was mostly banana and water from what I could tell. It was quite soupy. The meal itself was cooked perfectly and a lot of food for the value. In summary - this is a cute place that makes a really great brunch, if you're willing to deal with the poor service. read more

I've visited Popovers a couple of times with my husband. The restaurant is located in a great shopping center. I had such high hopes for this place. Each time we've been to Popovers, it's been a bit awkward. The service is always sketchy at best. During the last visit I honestly thought I was bothering them by even walking in the door. Our waitress was inattentive and boarding on rude. That aside, the food is mediocre. I expected the menu to have more options. Each time I've ordered a popover with eggs. Again, it didn't blow me away. My last visit was pretty poor. Even the eggs were cold and had little flavor. There's so many other great restaurants in the area. I doubt I'll be back for an awkward experience and cold eggs. read more
