For years I drove pass this place and never once thought to go in. Which is why I made a post about it about a week ago and found out that everyone had been holding this place hostage because no one ever told me how good they were. Those that know me know I'm a Krispy Kreme guy at heart and I hate Dunkin Donuts with a passion (I don't like cake donuts). However this place is just simply GOAT'D because it's definitely better then Krispy Kreme. Ladies and gentlemen this place is POP DONUT which I believe is only by a very nice Asian family. Everything is made fresh every day. They open up from 5am to 2pm Tuesday through Sunday. Fair warning if you get there late most of the good stuff is gone you have to get there as early as possible. After tasting what I tasted I understand why. The donuts are pillowy soft and taste so fresh and they even sell breakfast sandwiches. Believe me when I say you have to go here and as long as they are open I will never by Krispy Kreme again and you can catch me on my cheat days right here for sure! Oh YUMMMM!!! I have a co-worker that brings in treats from here twice a week. I finally had a chance to stop by and pick up a few items to take home. Can I just say how amazing the kolaches are! Soft yeast rolls stuffed with Conecuh sausage or smoked sausage. They're delicious. The Apple fritters have the perfect fried crunchy and glazed edges and pieces of diced apple throughout. But the doughnut holes, oh boy!! We all know how good doughnut holes are, but I believe that these are truly on another level. Soft, great yeast flavor and then that glaze all over them!!! This is a definite must try! The people working there are very nice and now I just have to try to restrain myself from going almost daily since it's so close to my office! read more

My boyfriend had been telling me about this place for weeks before I finally flew down south and he got to bring me there. These donuts are so good that we made three trips in the few days that I was down. I'm talking so good that we woke up around 5:30am to bust over there and get them at their freshest, lol. I am a fan of the raised glaze donut that just melts in your mouth and the apple fritter. Jesus, they are so good. They are so light and perfect like they floated down from heaven! My boyfriend is a big fan of the blueberry cake donut...and they are so cheap that you can afford a half dozen and try a whole slew of them! There's not a huge selection but EVERYTHING looked good. I settled on a blueberry cake doughnut and an apple fritter. Loved the texture and taste of the blueberry doughnut--so much that I didn't worry about the coffee I was gonna make. Started the apple fritter and wow... it was almost crisp on the edges and really delicious but I could have used more apple flavor. This place has the best donuts I've ever had! I stopped in earlier this week, figuring I'd give them a try. I've been back twice already sine then. They're addictive! They've had a wide variety of treats each time I've been in - several glazed and cake donut varieties, donut holes, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, donut twists, apple fritters, eclairs, kolaches, and biscuits. They also have coffee, juices, and sodas. Not only does everything (or at least everything I've tried) taste great, but the prices are reasonable and the people are super friendly! I have driven by this hole in the wall shop hundreds of times. Thank goodness I finally stopped and gave it a shot. Definitely my new favorite donut stop! The donuts melted in your mouth and the price is so cheap you gain 50 pounds for $5. Workers were very nice and the coffee was even pretty decent. The only downside... Best donuts on earth!! Better than Krispy Kreme (and I LOVE Krispy Kreme). Way better than Dunkin. Pop delivers to gas stations around Birmingham and I used to get their donut holes on my way to or from school when I was having a bad day and they ALWAYS brightened my day. I know it sounds silly to fall in love with gas station donuts, but they were that good so I had to go visit the actual shop. It was a 20 minute drive, but one that I will gladly make any time now. The physical shop is so misleading. It's a kind of "hole in the wall" type place but one of the best kept secrets in Birmingham. Their donuts are light and airy, but almost have a crispness to them on the outside. The icing is perfection, it stays the same soft smooth consistency even after it "dries". My number one recommendation is the donut holes, second would be a regular donut, third would be a chocolate iced donut with sprinkles, and last but certainly not least, the apple fritters! Pop also has breakfast foods like kolaches. They open pretty early in the morning and they deliver earlllly to the gas stations every morning!!! Best donuts in town at an unbelievable price! The donuts are light and airy not greasy like Krispy Kreme. The cake donuts are light and not thick and choking like the other name band place. The only cake donut I've ever been able to eat. The glaze are fluffy they are not overly sweet just perfect. You will need to buy extra because you can't eat just one or two. The breakfast sandwiches are also far above the local fast food spots. Everything is made fresh every morning. Get there early because they close at 2pm daily.
