We had a recommendation from a friend concerning a pool service. He lived in North Austin. We had several very expensive replacements to make. This friend recommended Crown Pool Services and Kenny, as the representative We called Kenny and he didn't respond for over a week. We sent a follow-up email, with our address, and he responded and apologized and we set up a visit. We were looking to replace a DE filter, which is a very expensive part. Stay away from this company!! The owner Leslie Elliot is extremely unprofessional, rude and immature. She's more concerned about clapping back then fixing the issue. The technicians are kind, but I don't believe they are treated right or being trained correctly, bc there's a very high turn over and they weren't adding the necessary chemicals to keep our pool clean from week to week. We've had on going issues with our pool being dirty and having algae to the point of having to cancel special occasions. We'd have to call them after a cpl of days of having treated our pool bc it was still dirty and Leslie would charge us a "service fee"!?! At one point we suggested they make adjustments to our pool pump settings by increasing the time, but that didn't work either and it only doubled our light bill. They're supposed to be the professionals but yet here I was suggesting options to possibly help resolve the never ending issues. Leslie would make up all kinds of reasons for the pool being dirty such as weather, having a lot of people in the pool, pets, debri etc. Its just me and my husband in the home and our grandkids visit in the summer. Also, we don't have any tress in the backyard or pets. They were just not adding the necessary chemicals to keep it clean from one week to the next. We recently went with another company. They've treated our pool once so far and as of a week later it still looks great/clean! That's the way it's supposed to be. PEACE OF MIND! We have been using poolie for about a year now, and have nothing but nice things to say. Our most recent experience was when one of their cleaning tech Joe came out to check the pool. Not only did he clean everything and check all of the levels I also asked him if he could take a look at the sound that our pump was making. he was more than happy to take a look and easily resolve the issue. Cannot figure out the good reviews on here. Unreliable, dishonest, poor service. You'll often have a door tag, with everything marked off (yet a 5min visit and a filthy pool?) or, no tag at all with the promise they came by - again, with a filthy pool. If you have a brand new pool or system, that is so easy you could do it yourself, then I'm sure Kenny can handle it. If you need an actual pool service - look elsewhere. read more

August: I'm given a swamp. A swimming pool, under oak trees, abandoned for maybe five years. Leaf-mold fills it, it stinks, there're frogs and thick clouds of mosquitoes. The council's threatening fines, rightly so: serious health risk! I call MANY pool services. Many're uninterested in the job, few voicemails call back, some can't get me an estimate for weeks. Those who come out, give estimates from $700 to $40,000. I call the whole first page of Yelp results, I've done my duty. Well, OK, I skipped that one-star guy who stole his customers' pumps. So to make up for skipping that, I call ONE MORE, from the second page. So I call Crown Pools. Kenny picks up, listens to my problem. "We can be there to give you an estimate in... 20mins?" Same day! Whoo! He arrives, with his brother CJ. They look at the pool, ask smart questions, answer my questions, look it all over in great detail. I tell them the quotes I've already had. But they laugh and don't take advantage of the info. "Six hundred. I just got this heavy duty pump I've been wanting to try out, so we'll save on rental. And don't worry about the filter, we'll get it working. If the sand's set I've got a length of rebar in the truck!" They arrive Monday with pumps, pressure washer, and other equipment, weeks before most companies could even get me estimates! CJ confesses he's had trouble sleeping, looking forward to this challenge. And they get to work. And WORK. All day. In mosquitoes and August heat. Truckloads of slimy, stinking leaves, more than we thought. But they never complain, never stop. If they hit a problem, they make a tool on the spot to work around it, drilling holes in one of their buckets to make a filter for their pump, things like that. End of the day, the pool so clean, you'd never guess its history. The change brings more tears to my eyes than the swamp stench had. "So," I say. "that 600 was just an estimate. How much do I really owe you?" They look at each other. Kenny looks me in the eye. "Six hundred, still." He won't let me argue him up. So I give him what extra I can as a bonus. Hah! I win! September: The old pump dies. They replace it, $650 parts and labor. I look up the motor model online. Can't find it under $650, even without shipping and labor. They save me two weeks' service charge while the pump arrives because no point servicing the pool with no pump. One seal leaks a little, but they stand by their work, come back, replace the seal. No charge. October: The computer controls rusted in place years ago. I'm tired of switching it by hand, ask about buying a timer, while I save for a new controller. "I've got a spare timer I can give you just for the cost of labor". Nov-Jan: Mosquitoes all gone! Pool's still crystal clear, even through Fall. Really glad I asked CJ what pool skimmer he recommended. Way better than the one I broke, and he showed me how to save money by salvaging part of the old one. So, Crown Pools are cheap. Cheapest weekly service costs I found, AND that includes chemicals: most don't. Their pool cleaning was the lowest: 1.5% of the highest estimate. I emailed about a degraded seal yesterday, Kenny replied "I can send a seal with cj on Monday. We fix those at no charge." Every time we have a problem (and our old system has a few!) they come up with workarounds that cost only what's needed. They've had many opportunities to rip me off or take advantage, and have instead gone the other way. I'm confident I've saved money over doing it myself, not even counting all the time and hassle they've saved me. But cheap is not *really* why I'm recommending them. I'm also not *really* recommending them because of their response times, even though they gave me that same-day estimate, they got to work the next working day, they've responded to panicky phone calls even out-of-hours within minutes, and I've even had a reply quickly to a email on New Years' Day! But while I'm not recommending them for this, I do VERY STRONGLY suggest that you call around a few other Yelp ads, not just to get pricing and compare, but also to ask each company to come look at your pool. See *how soon* each one can schedule someone to come out. Then see *how you feel* about them, both the person who answered the phone, and the guy who comes around. Dumb? Sketchy? Ignorant? Or smart and trustworthy? Because the reason I'm *really* recommending Crown Pools, is because out of every single pool company I spoke to, Kenny and CJ are seriously the ONLY ones that I'm OK trusting with the key to our back yard! Ever since they took over from Kenny things have gone downhill fast. they would come and not do anything except throw some shock at it and half ass brush the walls and call it a day. they wouldn't, couldn't, or did not know how to vacuum it out Half the time they didn't even bother to show up and then promise they would come twice the next week, which never happened. . all we ever got from them was excuses. anything including there were trees near the pool to our equipment was not working to the filter needed cleaning ( which it was taken apart and cleaned basically every other week). We haven't been able to use our pool since they took over. despite paying everything that was owed them. so basically i paid them for nothing, so if this is what you want to do go ahead and hire this company read more

I've had my pool since 2006 and have been through a handful of pool service companies. Some of them just swung by, looked at the pool and hung a door hanger on the door and others charged an arm and a leg for every drop of chemicals, some of which I wasn't too sure we actually needed. Crown Pool Service rocks. Kenny responded to my estimation request as soon as I sent it, came out when he said he would, and provided an affordable service estimate for my 20X40' pool. He was honest and up front about my iffy salt system, which is my 3rd go round at trying to get a salt system that actually works. I hired them in the midst of oak drop, and we have a large oak right by the pool. They did a great job cleaning the pool and keeping it from getting other problems associated with oak drop. I can tell they are actually cleaning and inspecting the pool each week. I feel like I finally found someone that I can trust with my pool and give me honest, informed guidance on how to keep it running at it's best. New ownership assumed Kenny Hileman's business a few months ago. Kenny was great but overwhelmed. When he sold his business, instead of going with another pool company, we decided to stick on based on the assurances that services would only be better not worse. Fast forward three months later and we are through with Poolie. Why? Simply put, the services received were subpar and the services that were not received could have some unpleasant consequences for us. Namely, for weeks our pool vacuum cleaner remained undocked to the pool despite us constantly mentioning it. We were given a litany of excuses for why the vacuum wasn't fixed and reattached. Meanwhile, the pool pump was being overworked due to having the vacuum detached. Additionally, related repairs too several weeks to complete that should have been resolved far sooner. The quality of repairs was just ok. The pool was green for weeks and not one person bothered to discuss with us an action plan to resolve this. Which brings me to mention that the communication is poor at best. Poolie is responsive, but that is about it. They do not communicate with you about any issues and are definitely not proactive, just reactive. After losing all confidence, we finally moved on from Poolie but not without finding out that the real reason why the pool was green. Apparently, the cleaner who came out did not feel that it was necessary to fill the chlorine dispense with chlorine pucks and as a result, there was an algal bloom. Further, the cleaner did not adequately scrub the pool to return it to blue. It was only a half baked job, whereas the new service we hired got the pool 95% blue within a day. Not putting chlorine in a pool is completely unacceptable and rendered our pool as nothing more than a breeding ground for mosquitoes. We had to have the filter re-cleaned due to the algae. I can not in good conscience recommend this pool service company because it was anything but "we do all of the work". read more

We tried to restart them after a winter hiatus, and they claimed they're not servicing any "NEW pools" at this time. We had been a customer for over a year, so clearly we are NOT a "new pool"... Could Kenny be upset that I paid him double for a single trip they made in Oct of last year, which they claimed they came out twice... and we are certain they only came out once to service our pool? Kenny came to fix our pool today. He told me the cost of fixing the spider gasket would be 85 for the labor and the cost of the part. He tried charging us 177 total (78.99) for the part only after buying it and putting it in the pool without confirming with us that it was ok. We had looked up the cost of the part online and found that it was actually $30-40 in stores we asked him to see the receipt. He said he gets wholesale price and marks up the price of parts after he buys it to charge to customers that way. When questioning that method of business he got pissed and removed the part and stormed out. But not after leaving three pieces of the pump sunk to the bottom of the pool and the pump open and leaking water everywhere. I called to ask him why he left without at least putting the pump back to the way it was and his response was that if he wasn't getting paid, he was not going to waste time here. Now I am left with an open pump pieces everywhere and water flowing out of it an no clue what to do. All because he was trying to over charge us and we noticed. Update: In response to below comment: A customer should always be able to inquire about an invoice. It is not a crime for a customer to ask about charges they receive. You stormed out without even giving us the chance to pay. And in the process you maliciously and immaturely threw my property around my yard and to the bottom of my pool. This is extremely unprofessional. Potential clients deserve to know that if they inquire about a bill they will be subjected to their property being thrown around their yard and left with a much bigger problem than they originally had. read more

Broken hose from the chlorinator, Kenny makes a special trip and fixed it for free. Leak in the top step; Kenny fixed it with pool putty for free. Plus, my dog likes to get after Kenny in a "mailman hate" kind of fashion. My wife, for whatever reason, always lets Dash out when Kenny is here. I have a pool that is anything but standard. Very large, oddly shaped and a grotto to boot. Most people come see the pool and their eyes light up with $$$ signs. Kenny was not like that. He took his time to do an analysis and provide a fair price for weekly cleaning and has taken personal interest to make sure he and his brother CJ keep it clean and adjust as necessary. We had some yellow algae a few weeks ago starting to form and CJ came on several days through the week to attack it. Today was the kicker for me, CJ went into the grotto to scrub it out and make sure it was perfect. Crown Pool Service/Kenny is fantastic. He accommodated my need for a filter evaluation with only a few hours notice. My filter was leaking at the O ring after I'd taken it apart and I did not know why or how to stop it. Kenny arrived promptly and was happy to educate me while he disassembled the filter. The fix was simple and done in 10 minutes. In that short time, I learned I wasn't supposed to backwash the filter, how to drain water off the pool (if needed), where to get a new pressure gauge, and most importantly, why the O ring was leaking.
