I swear every single month there's some additional charge for something. Then they quote one price and charge another. The final straw was the excessive credit card fees they charge acknowledging it's the "cost of doing business". But they inflate the charges they are actually paying. Do not recommend. Update problem resolved!…read more Old Review, Enrique is a master at repairs and knowledgeable of equipment but unfortunately he has people working for him that don't have a clue at servicing, the service has been hit and miss we started out with him doing the pool service and things couldn't be more perfect he also programmed our new pump to do fancy things and added some circuits that would be controlled through the app. Then he told us his apprentice was going to take over and we were damn we thought we just found the right pool guy so we gave him a try can't remember his name he's a young African American kid well the first week he broke the head on my wife's concrete turtle statue. After that just sloppy cleaning my wife would ask did the pool guy show up this week I'm like I guess well why is there trash in the spa? Don't know. Well weeks would pass sometimes the pool would look nice other times not too many weeks the spa went unvacuumed that's when I told Enrique we don't like the service your guy is doing and would like to switch to chemical service only but I mentioned if he could do it personally we would stay full service he agreed he would do it on another day we were fine with that. Well a week went by he didn't show up so I asked him if anyone swung by this week and he said it slipped his mind and said he wouldn't charge me $25 for that week the week after he showed up and the pool was looking like a charm until the following week where no one showed up again. One thing I still haven't figured out is the billing sometimes it's a mid-month sometimes at the beginning of the month anyways I spent some time vacuuming the pool and spa myself while we were swimming and I haven't heard anything from Enrique so I might just start doing it myself if it has to come to that. I happened to call the day before July 4th weekend (or course!) when I realized my pool and spa heater would not turn on. Kevin, the owner, answered the phone himself (rare these days to have any live person answer the phone!) and told me he would have Lance, the equipment tech, get back to me. Despite it being probably THE busiest day of the year for these guys, Lance did indeed call me back within minutes. I let him know what model heater I had and exactly what the problem was, and Lance let me know he would have to order the part so he would not be able to fix the same day. I never in a million years expected it to be fixed that day anyway, and was completely stoked when he called me back a few days later to let me know he had the part and could swing by and install it. Lance is the consummate professional, it only took him about 10 minutes to get my heater back up and running again. I very much appreciate the immediate response time and professionalism exhibited by both Kevin and Lance, it is almost unheard of these days. If you have any pool related needs, these are the guys you want, hands down!

If you ask Dwayne any questions he takes it very personal that you're questioning him. For example, one of my actuator valves went bad so he quoted me $517 for a new valve and install. I found the same valve on Amazon for $120 and it will literally take me 5 minutes to install it. Dwayne didn't like me questioning him so he put my account on hold and Kenney didn't come out to service my pool. Unbelievable considering they charge me $200/month. I initially hired them because I was having issues with Calcium buildup on the tiles. They told me they couldn't fix what had already been done but it wouldn't get any worse. Not true. We were going through a revolving door of pool cleaning companies before we found Cortland. It's so hard to find someone who actually cares about their work. We've been using Cortland for weekly pool cleaning services for 6 months. His company is thorough and provides a report after every cleaning. Beyond the cleaning is where Cortland really came through. We had a situation where our spa light needed to be changed but came to find all the wiring and casing at the box was eroded and underground. He stayed until 9:30 at night to complete the work under a portable spotlight we set up (see pictures). I don't think there's another "pool guy" out there that would do this. If you're looking for a full service pool company, this is the best in San Diego.

I would suggest avoiding any business dealings with Cortland of Trouble Free unless you enjoy being frustrated by your pool guy. Not returning calls is pretty much the dumbest thing a business person can do.
