We did a lot of research and narrowed our search down to three pool installation companies. We ultimately chose Zier (and Tim Brown, Zier's project manager on our project) because of the transparency, the pool design based on our answers to their questions on how we would use the pool, the delivered 3D pool animation etc, and Tim's willingness to work with us to try to stay within budget. This was such a huge project, with many tentacles and decisions to be made along the way. Tim helped us focus on what was most important at each phase and made sure we understood all the options and impact on budget. We especially appreciated Tim's active involvement on the project, with almost weekly site visits, and one-pagers to get us ready for each major construction phase - detailing what to expect, what decisions need to be made, etc. He was also very patient with us as we made some mid-project adjustments. Along the way, he helped us envision the possibilities within our budget (of which there were many!) and also informed us of some possibilities that were just out of the budget but that he sensed we might like if we could stretch the budget slightly. In all, we stayed within budget -- going for a couple small upgrades, offset by a couple of places to cut due to our mid-project design change. Finally, we appreciated the billing transparency. All costs at each phase were broken down in detail, including the amount of material (tile, pebble finish, turf, pavers, etc.). When we noticed a discrepancy in the amount of material installed vs one invoice, we brought this to Tim's attention and he graciously came out to re-measure, acknowledged the error and credited the savings to our next invoice. It's important to note that the discrepancy was an easy mistake to make, as it was due to our revisions on pavers and turf late in the process. We'd be happy to talk to anyone interested about our experience with Tim and Zier Pools. This monster of a project was made so much simpler by Tim and his process, and the results are fantastic!

In the middle of swim season - last, July - Westin 's negligence allowed a full algae bloom in my pool. Instant scummy pond water within a week. I could not have my grandkids over for a swim as planned because of this embarrassment. My pool had not been the same until the new pool service took over last week. The pictures of my pool filters combined with Westin's email records confirmed that he had not cleaned my filters IN OVER A YEAR at the time I terminated his services a week ago. I never solicited or hired Westin in the first place; My pool account had been sold to Westin from the previous pool guy. I couldn't terminate him fast enough after this last go round with algae in my pool and my repeated request over several weeks of Westin to do more than just pour a double portion of chlorine in the pool. Westin is young and inexperienced and has a negative attitude towards hard work.

He happened to have the parts with him in his car and was able to schedule a prompt appointment and showed up on time. He let me know when he was on the way and arrived on the dot. Matt was professional in his behavior and expert in his work. He even showed me how the process worked on the first light and said I could absolutely do the repair on my own in the future. He charged me his basic service fee and completed the work in a little over an hour, not counting time we talked as he explained the details of the repair. This made my wife uncomfortable due to the risk of germs and, in my opinion, the creepiness of a stranger touching our baby. We did continue with the company because we didn't feel like starting the search over and assumed that once construction began, we wouldn't be dealing with Richard. I explained exactly what we wanted and even showed him a photo (and explained the size and purpose). The company pulled permits and later sent us a rendering that wasn't what we wanted. I scheduled a follow up meeting to discuss the issue. Richard said he could "squeeze us in" between other appointments. Before he arrived, my wife and I went into the yard to discuss the project. We realized they simply weren't understanding our vision, and it didn't seem worth the time to keep trying to explain it. I was about to text Richard when he pulled up. I went outside to let him know we would not be proceeding with the pool. His response: "Why the f**k didn't you tell me before I got here?" In my opinion, he then stormed off like a child. I reached out to his boss to let him know that such behavior was incredibly unprofessional, and the language was unacceptable. I explained that I am also a business owner and that employees are not just a reflection of the company, but the owner. Instead of acknowledging or addressing the issue, he told me Richard lives in Palm Desert--as if he had made the drive specifically for us and that somehow it would justify his behavior. The owner called me today (a week later), briefly acknowledging Richard's behavior before saying he wants to bill me for permit costs and time. I already paid a non-refundable $1,000 deposit. He told me, "I don't have to let you out of the contract," and said he has legal recourse and could place a lien on my home. He also let me know he would respond to any review I left. At the end of the day, Majestic Pools was hired to provide a service they failed to deliver to our expectations. They also employ a salesman who acts in a creepy and foul-mouthed manner. Even if we had been difficult customers who required more time than expected or had left them high and dry, that still wouldn't excuse bad, unprofessional behavior and now legal threats.

The company that manufactured (and guaranteed) the rooftop modules, Fafco, went out of business last November. My warranty was with Pure PWR and not Fafco, so I wasn't worried about being left in the lurch. A couple of weeks ago one of the Fafco panels sprung a leak, and I called Pure PWR to deal with it. They sent out a repairman who fixed the problem without needing to replace the damaged panel. Pure PWR didn't charge me a penny for this, because they were honoring their warranty. I'm updating my review here to say how impressed I am with how well they honored their warranty even though the deck was stacked against them. They could have waved their hands and mumbled something about how it wasn't their fault -- which it wasn't -- but that's not what they did. They honored the warranty, fixed the problem, and didn't charge me anything. Yay for Pure PWR Pools.
