We requested a table for two and the host looked several times into the main dining area for a table for two, we were finally led in after several minutes. We realized for whatever reason, the host had put a front for us like they didn't have any available tables. I get we were under dressed but we were not the only ones and only half the dining area was filled. Due to that, we felt second rate (maybe because we were the only POC at the restaurant who were dining? I don't want to think about it like that). Our waitress was great, they must have had ten specials that day because when we inquired about it, she was listing them for several minutes in great detail. Excellent memory! The s.o. ordered a 22 (24?) oz bone in steak and I had the grilled fillet salmon followed by tiramisu and the dark side for desserts. Visually, it looked good. I don't understand how this place received such high ratings. The food was barely average due to lack flavor so it was extremely disappointing for a place that looked quite nice. We have been wanting to try out this place because of the good reviews. Sadly it was a bad experience for us. The place was pretty nice and not too crowded as the tables were spaced for social distancing, The service was good and our waiter was very helpful and efficient. Appetizers were okay; we ordered the sashimi tuna, stuffed mushrooms and soup of the day. Bread was warm and freshly baked. But then the entrees came and we were so disappointed. I was thinking, was the chef having a bad day ? I ordered the seafood fra diavlo and it was overcooked -- squid and shrimp were tough and rubbery. Husband ordered the filet mignon and it was salty and very dry. They were not good at all and definitely not worth the money. We were a party consisting of an anniversary and a birthday and we came here to try it out. The staff was very attentive and throughout the meal we were not rushed. Of course as this was a Wednesday evening it might not have been as crowded as a weekend, but for us this was perfect. All our meals were delicious and substantial and worth the price. Some of us could not finish as we all wanted desserts. And even the desserts were delicious. This reviewer is particular to their creamy New York style cheesecake. Normally love this place went there on Saturday before Valentine's Day on Tuesday. Ordered the veal chop special med rare and the octopus appetizer along with my wife's bronzini. My veal was well done even cut into it to make sure it wasn't just the perimeter. The octopus was served with these delicious pickled red onion. However, both my wife and I had several bites of the octopus with sand in them. We didn't say anything about the octopus but sent the veal back. The manager comes back to me and says the chef cut into the veal and half was well done the other half was med rare. I guess that is possible , though not what I ordered. They did take the veal off the bill. Still will give it three stars and will go back because of our previous excellent experiences. read more

First time here. I tried the seafood appetizer and it was great, I could have stopped with just that as it was filling. They give you a lot . We came out Friday evening. A party at 6:00 on us. Five of us were having entrees. One person was just going to have an appetizer. The restaurant was busy which was great to see. Upon hearing the lengthy specials we ordered two of the specials and three regular meals. When the food came out, three of the five meals were incorrect. One was completely the wrong order. The swordfish was undercooked and the steak was overcooked. The one meal that was completely wrong was a chicken dish and by process of elimination the person who ate that was the one who ordered a different chicken dish. The swordfish which we got someone to take it back to cook. It put the whole plate in the salamander vegetables and everything. So the needless to say the swordfish was cooked correctly. The vegetables were overcooked severely. The ribeye that we had was ordered rare and was supposedly 20-something ounces. It was not close to the actual weight that they were advertising. One partly because it was severely overcooked and the other it was just undercut. As we sent the swortfish back as it it was underCooked we had another person come to the table our actual server and he asked if everything was okay. Well one meal was incorrect. One was undercooked and I looked at him and said I can't eat this because it was overcooked he said. Would you like to get another one I said? Can you please have someone else talk to me? A manager came over and said your steak is overcooked. Would you like another one? I said that would be great. Then he looked at me and said it was going to take 25 minutes to recook a rare ribeye. I looked at him and said are you nuts? I'm not going to wait 25 minutes to cook a rare ribeye and if it's going to take 25 minutes, it's not going to be rare anyway.. I finally just said no. I don't want anything to eat. I'm fine and I let him know that the swordfish was undercooked and we got one wrong dish at the table as well. I will tell you the appetizers were very good. It was downhill from there as I went to the bathroom prior to our food being delivered. I saw the managers in the Friday night manager prone position leaning against the House of Stand like everything was okay. We had someone possibly a food runner come to the table with the meals and auction them off. You know that okay? Who gets this type thing or who ordered this now if I'm paying $35 or $40 for a meal I do not expect anyone to auction off food. I would have a seat number and then the food would be delivered by the person who took the order. They did take the steak off the menu and they gave us a dessert on the house that still doesn't serve the point of a sincere, genuine apology and being able to eat. Excellent BYO Italian place. Make a resrevation on weekends for sure. Nice surprise when we went on a Thursday a few weeks back that they offer price fix specials on weeknights for dinner with some really nice choices. Their veal Chop Special (available all three times we went) is worth the trip. Smothered with onions peppers and topped with Smoked Mozzarella cooked perfect and deliciously tender. Their seafood tower was excellent as well. Excellent Bread too. Food and waiter service was excellent each of three times we have been there and the atmosphere is perfect. I would vote 5 stars but on our second trip in October for our anniversary, the host/captain ticked me off. There is a line of tables against the wall in the front dining room where one side of the table shares a bench along the wall. The couple in front of us said no thanks to the table, and they called our name next. I politley told him that my wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and I wanted a table instead of a booth/table. He huffed and told me if I didnt want THAT TABLE, that he didnt know how long it would be. I smiled, and said 'thank you but Im sure you understand that Id like to sit alone with my wife and not rub elbows with strangers'. I added that I dont mind waiting for the next table. He was dismissive and huffed again and muttered under his breath. Fortunately there was a woman who came to the desk after overhearing this and said she understood my request and would get us a table shorlty. She apologized and I quietly told her that people with attitudes should nto be the ones greeting the customers and are better suited scrubbing toilets and sweeping floors. We shared a laugh and the rest of the night was excellent. She also visited our table to ensure we were more than satisfied and wished us happy anniversary. Worth a trip and if you end up with the same 'attitude jack-hole' at the desk, make sure you let the ownership know. Came to this restaurant on a Friday night with no reservation and was sat within five minutes. From atmosphere to food quality and service everything was very good. Appetizers were nicely portioned and very delicious as well as fresh. For entrees we received chicken francaise, double cut pork chop, eggplant parm, sword fish and filet mignon. All the entrees were generously portioned and delicious. When dessert came we definitely had to try so they put together a sampler and man it was delicious. Everything we ate was super tasty and was presented well. Prices are normal for food quality and portion sizes and service was attentive and on top of things. The seafood salad, oysters, and shrimp were all just ok (remember it being better at LouCas) For an entree, I had the Veal Sorrentino - veal w/ proscuitto, eggplant, mushroom, and mozzarella cheese in a marsala sauce. Solid but not a standout. Wish they made a Saltimbocca so the saltiness of the proscuitto wasn't competing with as many flavors. The pumpkin cheesecake dessert was really good. The restaurant is big so it's a very good choice for large groups and family dinners. It's BYOB which is even better. Overall, I liked it but not as much as LouCas. Seemed like my whole family agreed (my sister had lobster ravioli at both establishments and gave the thumbs up to LouCas). Prefix $15 & $20+ course lunch special & dinner at $25 & $30 is a great value if the food fits the bill. In this case I can pleasantly review that the chow exceeds the cost not just in quantity, but in superb Italian quality. Crab bisque thick and rich and flavorful. The croquette bolognese is divine ample amount of chopped meat and gravy mixed w/ carrots. (even though the pasta is purchased not homemade). Eggplant rolatini delivered a perfect delicate eggplant combined w/ a perfect compliment of tasty gravy & ricotta. Accompanied w/ choice desserts their specials top the areas prefix list for me. Unfortunately the prefix is only a week days offer. The regular menu looks exceptional, but pricey. Meh. That's my reaction to this place. Meh. It's okay. Here's the rub. We took five adults and two children here for dinner, and paid $307. I've seen a number of Yelpers who say they don't mind dropping $100 for a meal. Yeah, well, I mind. I ordered the chicken parm. I received two small pieces of chicken and a small bowl of spaghetti. My wife ordered the penne alla vodka with shrimp. She received a bowl of penne with a dash of "alla vodka" and three shrimp. My dad ordered the chicken milanese. My sister and mother ordered veal. Three even smaller pieces of meat to make room for one piece of broccoli, two string beans, four carrot shavings, and three roasted tiny potatoes. That was it. No salads. No soup. In other words, the portions are rather small and paltry. (Clams casino, I'm looking in your direction with the world's smallest baby clams topped with a shriveled tail end of bacon...all four of them.) The food itself is "ok." Not as high end as the prices suggest. The chicken dishes were a little fatty as was the steak. The veal was, again, okay. There are much better Italian restaurants in the area that cost far less. The service was not what I hoped for in lieu of a $50 tip. The chef, for whatever reason, refuses to split dishes in the kitchen. So when we ordered a ribeye for the kids, we were given the steak and an extra plate along with the explanation that the chef doesn't split dishes. So...um...for a $50 tip, how bout you grab a knife and cut it for us before you deliver it to the table, Chief? As a former server myself, I know he's busy but let me put it this way. He was working two tables and was assisted by three busboys. The purpose of this is so that he becomes more attentive to the needs of the table. Instead, this guy approached the job like he was working a diner gig. The atmosphere is your typical lowlit restaurant with extremely amiable hostesses when you enter. It's mainly patronized by an older crowd. You will see a lot of white hair or gleaming bald heads. So, perhaps, for them this a great place. That is, served by youth, tucked away from younger, louder crowds, and given the illusion of a high end meal. The highlight was the dessert. I ordered the NY-style cheesecake with a side of whipped cream. Very fluffy and tasty. My wife had the panna cotta, which was bland despite the addition of the strawberry and sauce. Overall, if the prices were lower, the portions greater, and the service a bit more attentive then I'd spring for three to four stars. The atmosphere was very quiet but not too much, clean, and nice enough to want to dress up in something nice. We had the Turkey dinner, so options were pre-chosen: Default was a cream of turkey soup (delivered in a over-sized bowl, delicious!); a house salad, but we were offered to change to ceaser or spinach (the house dressing was very acidic and instantly upset my stomach-- the spinach with a creamy champagne dressing/candied pecans, red onion, blue cheese was a much better choice); then the turkey was presented whole before taken back to kitchen for carving (very tender, juicy, didn't taste like it would if you cooked it yourself but it was home-made tasting); sides to share were squash, sweet potato, stuffing, mash potatoes, veggies, gravy, cranberry sauce that was spiced.... I read a lot of the reviews on yelp. We decided to go anyway with a party of ten. Our reservation was for 8 and we were sat promptly. I must say most of the reviews on yelp were fair. The service was average. For the appetizers we decided on the special. This was a family style appetizer for ten. The appetizer was eggplant rolintini, calamari, brucetta, rock shrimp, seafood salad, clams casino, and stuffed mushrooms. We also ordered the Cajun calamari, and fried zucchini. The appetizers were good. Everything came out hot. The Cajun calamari was ok. The entrees I have to admit were bad. Other reviews on yelp said food was bland, and unfortunately it's true. For my meal I had the beef tenderloin tips and stuffed shrimp. The entree came with steamed vegetables and mash potatoes. I asked for the steak medium rare. The steak came out medium well. All I was able to eat were the two stuffed shrimp. The steak was bland. The mash potatoes I had one fork full. I swear they were boxed mash potatoes. I tried eatting the vegetables but they also had zero taste. Even after I dumped salt and pepper on the food it was unbeatable. When it was time to pay, the waiter asked if I wanted my food to go? I told him no. You think they would have known something was wrong when nothing on the plate was eaten. I would urge you to listen to the other reviews and don't waste your time at this restaurant. They screwed up our reservations for 9 people for a birthday dinner. Claimed we never called even though we showed them the phone number and time of call on the cell phone. That's bad customer service right there, since everyone in business is always told "the customer is always right." We had to come back two hours later for dinner, that was the best they could do. The food is outstanding! The portions are ginormous. And to top it off, it's a BYOB restaurant! (there is a liquor store right next door) I had a mini rehearsal dinner here before the wedding with about 12 people. The waiters and waitresses were very courteous and patient while taking food orders. They were also very knowledgeable about the menu for the guests who had never eaten there before and didn't know what to try. They offer an awesome family style appetizer option. So... I just left the sainted Ponte Vecchio of Old Bridge. Myself and my family have been going there for years. The last couple of times we noticed it wasnt as good as it used to be but tonight it was just awful. Our waiter was great so this is not his fault. My daughters filet mignon was raw. My granddaughters shrimp was so tough she couldnt eat it. Our food was brought in shifts all cold and mine was served several minutes later. So the love affair is over. It's time to move on. My work had their christmas party here, or should I say "Holiday" party to be politically correct. Anyways, The place is pretty roomy, with great atmosphere as well as nice affordable prices, who doesnt want that especially with the economy going down the tubes! went there tonight because someone gave us a gift card. the waitress reading the 10 min specials at the top of her lungs was a turn off..we couldn't t remember them. I did have the veal chop which was pretty good. My wife had a ny strip steak that was tough, I told her to send it back but she didn't. My daughter had the rack of lamb but there really wasn't much on her plate{they were the absolute smallest lamb chops I ever saw!} the prices were high and the fact that you don't even get a salad? Come on how much would it cost them to serve you a salad?? at $25 for a strip steak.. they sat us next to a party of 20 with a long table in which there were 2 little girls around 8yo who were actually doing "cheers" right next to our table and the mother wasn't even paying any attention and as a matter of fact the grandmother was teaching them to "cheer for the Ravens!" Not one server or busboy even said a word to them..the people on one end of the table were actually talking to people on the other end by yelling down the table. since our table was in the middle of the room we were surrounded by tables and people...there was no room to move and it was sooo loud! My daughter told me when we left that the waiters and busboys were bumping into her the whole time...so much she lost count...when I went to pay the manager asked me how it was and I told him the steak was tough and he said we should have sent it back and I agree ...my bad...overall not worth the money and just too crowded and loud for a supposed "classy" restaurant...we will never go back read more

Well well well....where to start. My beau picked this place (although I had eyeballed it at one time too but prefer places that aren't byob), and we came prepared with a nice bottle of wine. Before I start on the food, please note this restaurant backs up to a strip mall, so the parking is in the back where the mall stores are. Parking is competitive, but available. Advice to the owners....when you do today's "specials," we expect to hear 2 maybe 3 dishes. The waiter (who's name escapes me right now) was very nice, and very thorough, but there were like 5 specials for appetizers and 5 for dinner. I am not a fan of mushrooms, so every time I heard it in the description, I kinda faded out the rest, but beau (who does like mushrooms) said he couldn't even remember half of the dishes the waiter said. Okay, not a crisis, we went with the menu. The menu is very nice. Lots of choices for appys and for meals, and not your typical Italian food fare, so that was a pleasant surprise. Sooo, I ordered clams on the half shell and calamari, and beau had the mozzarella, Tomato and Roasted Peppers. He loved his. The clams were good and fresh, the calamari? Not so much. If you look at my other reviews, I have a real dislike for gummy calamari, and although this is the not the worst I've had, it was definitely more on the gummy side. For dinner, beau had the Tuscan Style Grilled Swordfish Steak. Huge piece of steak, very well cooked and very tasty. This was served over broccoli rabe with sun dried tomatoes in a garlic/lemon/olive oil sauce. It was really good--we give it 5 stars. I had the Lump Crab Cake, and opted out of the veggies and potatos for a caesar salad. The crab cakes were pretty good (a little more lemony than I would have liked, but not bad), however, the caesar salad? Aside from looking less than fresh (lettuce was wilted, croutons were soggy), it was drenched in whatever dressing that was, which definitely did not taste like caesar, and was way too salty (and I LOVE salt). We did not have dessert, but a party table next to us did and all the desserts looked delectable. Would I go here again? Perhaps. I usually go to Ciro's in Jamesburg for Italian food, and I pretty much measure any other Italian establishments against their food because I have never had a bad dish there, and can get a Margherita at my table lol. My favorite Italian restaurant in NJ! My wife and I have dined here since it opened. In case you aren't aware, the owners of Ponte Vecchio are the owners of the very popular Lou Cas in Metuchen. Some of my favorite dishes are: Veal Chop - absolutely fantastic! This cut is usually not found at most restaurants. It's a huge portion, easily a full inch thick, topped with a roasted pepper and cheese. It's tender and juicy and full of flavor. I highly recommend it! Pasta dishes: I've tried them all and everyone one is delicious! Pasta is the signature dish of any Italian restaurant. Done wrong, it will sink a business.. However, when done right, it can distinguish a restaurant and at Ponte Vecchio, it will not disappoint. Whether paired with a meat in a cream sauce or roasted vegetables in a wine sauce, or just a simple Marinara sauce...you will love the variety found here. Overall, the decor is luxurious without being pompous. I especially like the wood floors and antique plaster wall treatment. Enjoy! read more

Came here for a business dinner, so all the grub and hootch (BYOB) was on the marketing rep...so that was dope. This spot is in a friggin strip mall...ugh. Three stars because our server was really nice and provided good service (it was the black guy, can't remember his name). However I HATED the atmosphere. Very "jersey shore-ish". They seated us right smack in the middle of the floor. Waiters and people walked by, bumping my chair, balancing trays over my head, etc. We were seated next to the most obnoxiously LOUD people I have ever encountered at any restaurant. It would have been nice if someone had told them to lower their voices, as I couldn't even hear my hubby over their loudness. Other patrons were staring, etc but nothing was done, and I felt it wasn't my responsibility to tell them to STFU so that the rest of the patrons could enjoy their meals. That's the managers job. The food was OK, but hubby's food was a bit bland. I had the chicken marsala and while it was nice of them to make it for me (they only had veal marsala on the menu) the sauce was off... it tasted kind of like turkey gravy. Absolutely no complaints about this restaurant. My family and I went here for dinner on Father's Day and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered cajun calamari for an appetizer, which was perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. For dinner, I ordered the filet mignon wrapped in bacon and topped with a brandy sauce, along with a side of mixed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. Every aspect of the dish was delightful, I practically licked my plate clean. The rest of my family ordered fish dishes which I got to try (shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and a Chilean sea bass dish); both of which were delicious. On top of the great food, the service was impeccable. The waiter memorized all of the specials and our orders perfectly and he served us promptly and efficiently. This is our FAVORITE Italian place! It is a bring your own restaurant which helps in its already affordable menu. They offer prefix menu during the week for $25-$30 a meal including an app, dinner, and a dessert. Their specials list is lengthy but worth a listen. They bring delicious warm bread with butter as a courtesy, but I recommend requesting olive oil or better yet request the special mix in the olive oil-then they add spices and garlic to the oil! Their fried calamari is the best I have ever had and any dish served francese there is AMAZING! I have never eaten anything there that I didnt thoroughly enjoy! Mine only advice to them would be to change the menu up a little more often for the regulars, and maybe add a stuffed chicken once in a while even... but theyre by far my favorite place and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for italian, or a great steak! read more
