Maybe it was because it was a holiday, but the experience was very disappointing. We had been waiting to try this restaurant since we moved to the neighborhood. The ambiance was lovely and the waitress was lovely and tried her best to be accommodating. My boyfriend had forgotten to bring wine, and she even suggested a place he could go quickly while she patiently waited. For some reason, we were seated at one table and then asked to move to a different same sized table, as someone had apparently reserved the table we were initially seated at. The food overall was disappointing. The eggplant appetizer was ok, but served lukewarm. They had many specials, most of which contained lobster, but after ordering, we were advised they were sold out of lobster ...shortly after 8 pm on New Year's Eve. . The short rib lasagna and shrimp specials were bland and also served lukewarm. Then we ordered dessert and were subsequently told that it also was sold out. We ended up with dry, bland cheesecake and zeppoles. The waitress was the only positive part of our experience. We were hoping this would become one of our regular places, given the proximity to our home, but sadly we are probably "One and Done". Pictures of our entrees for reference. read more

A great casual BYOB Italian restaurant! Consistently good food, and friendly service. A regular stop with the family, and a great stop for pizza too with the kids over the weekends at lunchtime when it's typically not as busy. Update: For those unaware, each of the restaurants in the area are very different. The Red Bank location is more of a pizza shop and the Colts Neck is trying to be the "high end" location (wasn't thrilled). This location at Old Bridge is the best one. read more

Friends of mine introduced me to Via Sposito as they are regulars. Parking can be difficult in this strip mall. Indoor and outdoor seating available. BYOB Very crowded but enough room to stretch. The baked clams were outstanding, top 3 that I have had in NJ. Meatballs were solid. Sausage Peppers and potatoes were ok, they use Luganica sausage which dries out. Long hots were solid, charred nicely with garlic. Bolognese was above average. Pizza was very good....well done as requested. Dessert and Coffee with no complaints. Service was well above par which is excellent considering it was very busy. Prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. $15-$20 appetizers, $25 pasta, $35 entrees. I will check out the Red Bank location soon and hope the food is equally as delicious. read more

Finally went to Via Sposito in Old Bridge. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, lots of choices on the menu and everything was very tasty. The Nonna square pizza was well made, had a great crust and plenty of cheese. The veal parm dinner was well prepared with tender veal. Dinner rolls were also good. My true score is a 3.75. Wanted some good Italian and did a google search, and this place came up. We made a reservation because judging by the menu pricing this would be a bit more upscale than casual dining. We walked into a pizza parlor with booths. Oh well. The hostess sat us and handed us 2 of the dirtiest menus I've ever seen and a crud covered iPad with the days specials. We had to request new ones. While looking at the menu they bought 3 of the saddest excuses for dinner rolls I've ever seen. If I threw one it could break a window. It's BYOB, so we made some Jack and cokes in the provided clear plastic Pizza Hut cups while contemplating the menu. We decided on Stracciatella Soup and goat cheese/pear salad to start. For mains we had veal Marsala and Sunday sauce with linguini. Stracciatella-I'm not sure who made this soup but the flavor was very good, the only issue we had is that I'm sure this soup is made with a frozen base and the spinach/egg is added after. Probably due to its popularity. It was very good, however I was taught that the egg is added as a drizzle as the base is stirred. This had huge hunks of scrambled eggs. But overall 7/10 Goat cheese salad- fantastic. I think it could have benefitted by tossing the spinach in the dressing prior to service. It was tasty but dry. 6/10 Sunday sauce- this sauce is amazing. Like utterly amazing and I haven't had sauce like this in a very long time. The only thing that ruined it was the fact that instead of par cooking the linguini it was pre cooked and warmed up too long. It was a mushy mess. Sauce 9/10 pasta 4/10 Veal Marsala- there was nothing wrong with this dish. Everything was cooked properly. The veal was pounded thinly and cooked to perfection. Veggies had crunch and were well seasoned. Potato croquette was nice and mild. 9.5/10 If they get their bread game together we will frequent more often it's around the corner from us, but what is Italian food without good bread? Let's be honest. Lastly if your host has time to lean, they have time to clean....especially those gross menus. read more

On a recent dining experience we were a bit disappointed. Dined in the middle of the week. My husband ordered the grilled halibut special, and i ordered a pizza with meatballs . My pizza was delicious. Not so for my husband. The fish was very dry and way overcooked which was very surprising. Normally it's top notch. It should also be noted the entire restaurant was being serviced by one waitress. She was so overwhelmed but pleasant. I can heartily recommend Via Sposito now that we've had multi visits in two locations. Consistently very, very good. Ingredients obviously strictly fresh, prepared accurately and presented perfectly. Had a great dinner the other night, we came upon them when the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed.

The come-on offering 2 for 1 entrees for our Thursday night date night was good for us. Meeting Dolores Esposito the owner, was the icing on the cake. She's amazing!! Allen our waiter was brand new and adorable. He worked hard and it worked well. Pizza made fresh upon order. And as every real Italian restaurant should have, on the menu Italian long hots!! We had the Insalata Di Rapa Rosa. Mmmmmm! Check the menu. Dollops of goat cheese. We did the two for one. We shared the mussels fra diablo and (of course) chicken parm. Both were delish. Via Sposito is a decent spot to grab a slice or a pasta dish. The highlights were the baked breaded calamari and the margarita pizza. The pasta bolognese didn't have any flavor and the meatballs only had a touch more seasoning. The dining room is small so it can get loud. Nonetheless, I would go here again for just a pizza if I was in the mood for coal fire pizza. read more

If you want to be berated for asking for balsamic vinegar and have it slammed down on your table with the comment "nobody asks for this", have a waitress with a HORRIBLE attitude (Dolores), get cold (seamed store bought) rolls, and listen to reggae music..this place might be for you. Only beer & wine, no cocktails. Food was pretty good but Dolores was not nice at all and really put a damper on the entire experience. I also believe the owner or manager was directly across from our table and I'm sure he saw and heard, everything. Dolores is going to kill this restaurant!! Fyi...told someone the story of our awful experience at ViaSposito and awful waitress. Their response..and I quote "Dolores right?". We had a wonderful night at Via Sposito! The staff was friendly, the environment was lively and our food was delicious! Everything is made to order and fresh. For appetizers, we had the mozzarella caprese and potato croquettes. And for my entree I had the grandma's pie. What I loved most about the pizza, it's not covered in sauce and smothered in cheese. Just the right touch. For dessert, I had the profileral which are cream puffs in vanilla and chocolate cream. Everything was amazing. Would definitely recommend. read more

After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a try. We were immediately seated after checking in. The restaurant is very dimly lit, with only fake candles and small ceiling lights keeping it from being fully dark. Felt kind of romantic but we were without our daughter. LOL. We were given an iPad to look at the menu, so I wasn't able to take pictures of the menu. We ordered a burrata, which has baby arugula, prosciutto di parma, tomato and extra virgin olive oil. We were a little disappointed in it. The burrata was great but the tomatoes weren't ripe at all, so it was hard to chew. The prosciutto and arugula tasted good. We also ordered the Margherita, which is a 12-inch round pie with pomodoro sauce, mozzarella, pecorino Romano, basil and extra virgin olive oil. It was delicious and the crust was nice and crispy. Service was quick and friendly. I'm glad we came here and gave this place a try. Will definitely return to try other items on the menu! read more

I was expecting to have at least a large pie for what I paid for but ended up with a small pie enough for 2 to share. We had a great meal here. Our party arrived in 2 different parts, and they still allowed us to be seated. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant is small, with 1 unisex bathroom, but was crowded the entire time we were there. There were so many options on the menu it was so hard to choose. My husband ordered the chicken parm, my sister ordered meatballs and pasta and I ordered the brick oven pizza, and everything tasted very good. They are BYOB, but they did have a few wine options on the menu for purchase. I liked having the option of both. They served bread with butter and didn't charge extra for it, which is the case in some places. read more

This was a last minute pick after a previously restaurant we had looked into turned into something else we didn't want. What a great last minute pick!! For appetizer I had the Mozzarella caprese and potato Croquettes, then double up that order because they were so good. I had the spaghetti allá carbonara and for dessert I closed out with the tiramisu and homemade Italian cheesecake. We had an early dinner tonight to celebrate our parents anniversary and birthday. Even though we we used to live locally, we had never eaten here before and chose it from the reviews. It's definitely a hidden gem of Old Bridge! The staff was super friendly, accommodating and personable. The food was absolutely delicious! We loved the big tomatoes and cans of Esposito red sauce as decor throughout the restaurant too. My personal favorite was the vodka sauce. I'm very picky but it was the best vodka sauce I've ever had. The restaurant is in the smaller side and really echoey, but otherwise very lovely. We unfortunately had a big party of some very rude dining guests behind us and that unfortunately killed the atmosphere for us a bit because we had to yell for our elderly parents to be able to hear us, BUT the staff was so apologetic about it and clearly had their hands full with them, and that wasn't their fault. As soon as this large family of diners left, the atmosphere became a lot cozier. It's a shame people like have to ruin the experience for everyone around them, but I would highly recommend Via Sposito and we will definitely be returning in the future! read more
