    Sunday Sauce
    Craig I.

The most authentic Italian food I've tasted in years. The Sunday Sauce was incredible! Only a true Italian restaurant serves braciole and their version was perfect. Steak so tender and cooked perfectly. The spare rib practically fell off the bone and the meatball was heavenly. And a huge portion! My gf ordered the Linguini Alla Pescatora and she loved it. Good amount of seafood and all fresh and good sized mussels and clams. She couldn't finish so I had it for lunch the next day and it was delicious. This was our first time at Via Sposito and we can't wait to go back.

The place was spacious enough to seat our party of seven. Nice and quaint. The food was very good. We had two pizzas, calamari and some penne vodka. All of them were delicious. Our waitress came off a bit rough at the beginning, but was really nice. But that's New Jersey for you. A bit pricey for a neighborhood spot, but still good overall. If you're young, saved up a bit and you want to impress your date, them definitely check this spot out.

We've been coming here since it opened, and it's hands-down one of our favorite local spots. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious -- we've never had a bad meal. The staff is friendly, the service is solid, and the atmosphere feels like home. Their penne vodka is our go-to -- perfectly cooked every single time. Whether we're dining in or getting takeout, we're always satisfied. It's rare to find a place that delivers quality and consistency, but Via Sposito nails it. Highly recommend to anyone in the area looking for amazing Italian food!

On a recent dining experience we were a bit disappointed. Dined in the middle of the week. My husband ordered the grilled halibut special, and i ordered a pizza with meatballs . My pizza was delicious. Not so for my husband. The fish was very dry and way overcooked which was very surprising. Normally it's top notch. It should also be noted the entire restaurant was being serviced by one waitress. She was so overwhelmed but pleasant. Didn't have time to check on our dinner we definitely would have sent it back.

My true score is a 3.75. Wanted some good Italian and did a google search, and this place came up. We made a reservation because judging by the menu pricing this would be a bit more upscale than casual dining. We walked into a pizza parlor with booths. Oh well. The hostess sat us and handed us 2 of the dirtiest menus I've ever seen and a crud covered iPad with the days specials. We had to request new ones. While looking at the menu they bought 3 of the saddest excuses for dinner rolls I've ever seen. If I threw one it could break a window. It's BYOB, so we made some Jack and cokes in the provided clear plastic Pizza Hut cups while contemplating the menu. We decided on Stracciatella Soup and goat cheese/pear salad to start. For mains we had veal Marsala and Sunday sauce with linguini. Stracciatella-I'm not sure who made this soup but the flavor was very good, the only issue we had is that I'm sure this soup is made with a frozen base and the spinach/egg is added after. Probably due to its popularity. It was very good, however I was taught that the egg is added as a drizzle as the base is stirred. This had huge hunks of scrambled eggs. But overall 7/10 Goat cheese salad- fantastic. I think it could have benefitted by tossing the spinach in the dressing prior to service. It was tasty but dry. 6/10 Sunday sauce- this sauce is amazing. Like utterly amazing and I haven't had sauce like this in a very long time. The only thing that ruined it was the fact that instead of par cooking the linguini it was pre cooked and warmed up too long. It was a mushy mess. Sauce 9/10 pasta 4/10 Veal Marsala- there was nothing wrong with this dish. Everything was cooked properly. The veal was pounded thinly and cooked to perfection. Veggies had crunch and were well seasoned. Potato croquette was nice and mild. 9.5/10 If they get their bread game together we will frequent more often it's around the corner from us, but what is Italian food without good bread? Let's be honest. Lastly if your host has time to lean, they have time to clean....especially those gross menus.

The come-on offering 2 for 1 entrees for our Thursday night date night was good for us. Meeting Dolores Esposito the owner, was the icing on the cake. She's amazing!! Allen our waiter was brand new and adorable. He worked hard and it worked well. Pizza made fresh upon order. And as every real Italian restaurant should have, on the menu Italian long hots!! We had the Insalata Di Rapa Rosa. Mmmmmm! Check the menu. Dollops of goat cheese. We did the two for one. We shared the mussels fra diablo and (of course) chicken parm. Both were delish. Fresh warm rolls on the table. A little piece of heaven. Follow and tag them for free dessert. Warm zeppole with powdered sugar. See the photo. Very happy. Do try it!!

Via Sposito is a decent spot to grab a slice or a pasta dish. The highlights were the baked breaded calamari and the margarita pizza. The pasta bolognese didn't have any flavor and the meatballs only had a touch more seasoning. The dining room is small so it can get loud. Nonetheless, I would go here again for just a pizza if I was in the mood for coal fire pizza.

If you want to be berated for asking for balsamic vinegar and have it slammed down on your table with the comment "nobody asks for this", have a waitress with a HORRIBLE attitude (Dolores), get cold (seamed store bought) rolls, and listen to reggae music..this place might be for you. Only beer & wine, no cocktails. Food was pretty good but Dolores was not nice at all and really put a damper on the entire experience. I also believe the owner or manager was directly across from our table and I'm sure he saw and heard, everything. Dolores is going to kill this restaurant!! Fyi...told someone the story of our awful experience at ViaSposito and awful waitress. Their response..and I quote "Dolores right?". It's pretty bad when some random person you've never met knows which waitress has the attitude at a restaurant!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!!!

He checked in on us throughout the evening, always friendly and engaging, which truly elevated the experience. The food was just as impressive: Pollo Milanese - a perfectly cooked chicken cutlet topped with fresh mozzarella, arugula, cherry tomatoes, onions, shaved Parmesan, and a bright lemon vinaigrette. Pollo Carbonara - topped with prosciutto, spinach, peppers, and fontina cheese, served over penne pasta. Alaska Chicken (special) - stuffed chicken with shrimp, roasted tomatoes, spinach, and cheese in a rich cream sauce, served with saffron risotto. Absolutely delicious. For dessert, we shared a toasted almond cake and a caramel cheesecake cone--paired with cappuccinos, of course. The perfect ending to a great meal. It was a wonderful evening shared with wonderful people, made even better by Alessandro's exceptional service. Highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely be back to try more dishes!

When the music was between songs everyone was talking softer and you could have a conversation. We arrived and were seated quickly- our table was nice and in a comfortable location. Our server came over promptly and asked if we would like a drink. The room is dimly lit, which was fine for me- but tough for my father (who is in his 70's). They did not have chocolate milk but we were offered hot chocolate instead- which I thought was an odd alternative. It was a limited holiday menu, and each entree had a price next to it. For example- the penne vodka was $59.99, chicken parm was $69.99 and steak was $79.99. It was not explained to us that we also would choose an appetizer and some form of dessert would be provided at that price. I had to ask the server and she finally confirmed what I thought was the arrangement. I did expect higher prices due to the holiday, and would have no issue paying those prices if the food and service were both fantastic. We were brought a basket of bread with no butter and no oil. I had to flag someone down after 10 minutes for butter. We received our sub par appetizers quickly (mine was Mozzarella en Corozza- but it was a grilled cheese ... and not a good one- very bland). The appetizer choices were okay, but my husband's "Mozzarella di Buffao" was literally 3 slices of tomato and 3 small pieces of cheese. No exaggeration. We waited 30 minutes for our entrees after our appetizer plates were cleared. 30 minutes. AND they never brought my elderly father's Chicken Marsala. He waited while we all sat with our plates. I think his dinner came out 20 minutes later. We were never offered any courtesy (complementary side dish or ANYTHING) for his dinner never being delivered. We had to ask 3 times for it until the issue seemed urgent. We were never offered grated cheese or pepper for our entrees. I normally wouldn't complain about that, but when you are paying over $500 for dinner, these things matter. The wait staff was less than accommodating. The only people who seemed like they cared were the busboys. The steak was the only entree that was raved about. My chicken parmesan was not good. The chicken itself was over seasoned with rosemary. The sauce was completely flavorless... almost like they just dumped a can of plain sauce on top of the chicken and pasta. My son ordered penne vodka, which was also bland. It was a very small portion for such an expensive price. After being at dinner for over 2 hours, and ignored for most of that time, my 8 year old was getting antsy. My husband asked if it was possible to take our desserts (which were included in the outlandish price), to go. Our server suggested we ask the food runners to pack them up when they bring the food out, but then flippantly said "I'll just do it". We weren't asked what our choices for dessert were- they just threw little pieces of a few things in a to go container. We didn't even care at that point and wanted to just leave. We asked for the check- which took forever since nobody was glancing in our direction. I immediately put my credit card into the check folder and stood it up on the table so it would be easily seen. I waited. I sent my family outside to get into the car.... and still waited. Finally 10 minutes later, another staff member pointed out to our server that I was ready to pay. She came over to me and said "I will bring this to the hostess for you". Is this a diner? Was I expected to bring my check to the hostess stand? I was confused. She acted like I was an inconvenience. I just got up and walked to the hostess stand to sign the credit card slip. Gratuity was included. $82.00 of gratuity which was not at all deserved. I understand it was a holiday and things happen. I understand a lot of that is beyond the control of the server. Being ignored, spoken to like you are an inconvenience, not being offered pepper or grated cheese - are not. I worked in the service industry for many years and I found that most of our experience at this restaurant was unacceptable. I will not be back.

Great date night!…read more My first time and my wife's second. She said we needed to go because the food was good, so we used our date night for me to try it and I'm glad we did. From the moment we walked in it was nothing but smiles from the staff. We arrived around 5:00, it got really crowded around 6:00, so ho before if you're going on a Saturday. Our waiter John was super and his support staff was amazing. Loved that they cleaned our tale after our appetizer and gave us new silverware. It's the small things that ca separate a restaurant from a 4 to a 5. The tuna crispy was really good. I had the chicken parm because that's my test of a restaurant and it was good, not great, but good. My wife had the salmon and it was excellent. We left room for the chocolate cake and it was worth leaving room for. This is a BYOB so that's a big attraction and a money saver. They do offer wines for sale, but I recommend bringing your own. It got a little noisy as it filled up with people, but it was the kind of noisy when people are having a good time so it was fine. On our way out we were asked by multiple staff if we enjoyed ourselves and I'll repeat our comment, it was great! Definitely go, make a reservation and get there early to avoid the crowds. I should've asked to be moved, but it would've been a long wait, so we stayed there. Not great. People standing in the small vestibule laughing and talking right near my son's arm. Not pleasant. We were greeted pretty quickly and she took our wine order. We asked for tap water as well. One of our sons ordered a mocktail. She came back with a different wine in the same price point and said what we ordered sold out. Ok. No big deal. My son's Mocktail was no where to be seen. Neither was the water. Someone brought over olive oil and salt and pepper. But we then sat there for 20 minutes with no bread and no water. The bread finally came and so did the water, but at this point I was a bit annoyed. Still no mocktail. She took our app orders. She bought two of the three. The third took another ten minutes. But the apps were really very good. She then took all of our orders. We asked about the mocktail. (They have really delicious ones) She said "oh my I forgot!" Left. Came back and said the ingredients were out and could he choose a different one. He did. When it finally showed up he tasted it. Awful! It tasted like pickles! They did take it off the bill, but our son ended up with water. Then our meals came. Both sons ordered Pastaa Carbonara. BOTH orders were runny and ice cold (Carbonara is creamy). We sent both dishes back. We asked for another bottle of the wine. That came right away. She picked up the empty bottle, but she saw someone flag her down and she left it on the table. The table was kinda crowded so this was not good either. Meanwhile the rest of us had our meals. They did make it completely fresh, and it was good when they finally got it. Took awhile for them to clear the table and then they took the empty wine bottle, but I had to ask them to. So we ordered coffee and desserts. I asked for cream and splenda. My coffee and dessert came, as did the others. No cream. No sugar or splenda. Waited. Kept waiting. Couldn't get anyone's attention. No one brought it. My husband got up and went to the back to ask for it. She apologized and brought it five minutes later. So I'm giving it 2 stars because the food was good (when it was fresh and hot), but the service not so much. I know it was Mother's Day, but shouldn't there have been more wait staff scheduled because of that? By the time we got dessert the restaurant was mostly empty. We should not have had to get up to ask for cream etc. We had been there in the past with friends, not on a holiday, and it was much better. But I was not really happy at all with the restaurant choice after this experience. I think they definitely over booked and without the staff to meet that need it fell very very short.
