The best Italian restaurant in Central Jersey. I traveled 40 minutes for their eggplant rolatini . Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Update 2023 Ordering food there for take out, and unfortunately not going here anymore. They forgot an order & gave salad from the night before. (Mind you. This is when they open for the day) a salad is the most simplest thing to make, and if this is given with old food.... I don't know what's the practice in the kitchen anymore. The entrée trio that had veal, chicken, and shrimp combined didn't have any shrimp in it either. Friends and family had been going to this establishment for awhile, however noticed the decline in quality. They haven't gone back and chose other restaurants

I don't know the official name of this pizza. I call it an everything pizza . Man it was delicious no matter what it's called. Bravo !!

Love everything about Carmillos. Been going there for over 10 years. Had parties there, dinners, and go for just a slice. Always satisfied. The owners and staff excellent people. Go there you'll be happy you did !!

The strip mall itself isn't anything special, but the surrounding area is beautiful , and once you're inside, the restaurant feels warm and inviting. The food is fantastic, and the variety on the menu is impressive. The chef clearly knows what they're doing because every single dish we tried was genuinely delicious. It's the kind of spot where you can't go wrong: date night, dinner with friends, or anything in between. We brought our own bottle and had a great time. Our waiter was super knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. The staff even joked around with me when I forgot my to‑go bag, and yes, I absolutely took it home because the food is that good. I also appreciate that they don't act like offering takeout is beneath them; even the takeout bag was nice. I honestly wish my meals were this good every night. I hope everyone who works here is paid well and enjoys what they do, because they're running the place exactly how a restaurant should be run. It feels like a true community staple somewhere that transports you a bit and makes the whole experience feel special. Lovely all around.

We were a party of 8 and ordered from the family style menu (5 appetizers, salad, 2 pastas, 1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 fish, dessert). It was plentiful and we could not finish it all. Will definitely be back!

It was clear they were severely understaffed, and we were largely ignored until one of them finally said, "I will check on your table." The food was okay. The bread? Their stock answer was humorous after hearing it recites by all three servers: "It's in the oven" I guess practice makes perfect. Standard salad with balsamic, same as every mid pizza/food place I have been before. Red snapper special was way tough on the outside, like chewing leather that you never would really want to eat?! Best thing here was the pork chop, sweet spicy peppers, with onions yummy brown sauce, although the pork was a tad overdone. Overall, this place is a pass.

We ordered the Pasta Al Forno as an appetizer & Chicken Scarpariello for the main dish. Was quoted 35-40 min when I called it in, arrived ~30 min, paid & food came out near the 40 min quote. The pasta - for us the cheese on top was perhaps over toasted as it was on the dry side. Flavor was fine otherwise. Not sure I'd order this for a main dish without added protein though. The Chicken Scarp - excellent. The chicken & potatoes were very tender. The mild sausage makes this dish come together, it adds a level of savoriness to complement the balsamic sweetness in the sauce. I also like the long angled slices of sausage nicely seared on each side, it was not expected vs other versions that I've had. Meal also came with bread to soak up that chicken sauce. Also noting the place seemed packed, only 2 spots on their lot were open plus it sounded busy inside. Will try it next time onsite with one of my many fine bottles of wine. :)

Really, really good tavern pie, although I wouldn't necessarily call it a traditional tavern pizza…read more When I think tavern, I think crackery crust. That is not this. The caramelized ring of cheese around the edge is brilliant. The bottom was a hair undercooked and therefore a little limp but not too bad. One other reason for the limp is the very generous amount of cheese that solidifies into a shield atop the pizza. The sauce is a tad sweet but not too bad. I know I have nitpicked a bit here but it is still excellent pizza and worth a stop if you are in the area.

8/14/25 - Went to a pizza shop today that I have never tried. I am not sure how I never ate here…read moreconsidering that I've driven passed this place a thousand times taking Alex to and from dance class. TJ's Pizza and Catering is located in Parlin, NJ. I went in with the intention of ordering a large plain and a large Sicilian. But there's a sign on the wall that refers to this place as the home of the Tavern Pie. Tavern Pie? What in the world is that? Never saw that anywhere on Staten Island when I was growing up. But if that's your specialty, scratch off the Sicilian and add one Tavern Pie. The good: The plain pie was wonderful. It's the neopolitan style we all grew up eating. When I opened the box, the aroma immediately brought me back to Al's Pizza on Jewett Ave in Staten Island. I knew I was going to like it. And it didn't disappoint. The flavor of the sauce explodes in your mouth on the very first bite. The crust was pretty good too... crunchy and very little limpness. The cheese is very flavorful. And its real cheese with flavor.... not the cheap version. The foot traffic in this place is incredible. It took about 20 minutes to cook the pies and in that time, I easily saw 25 people coming in. The staff is super friendly kick-starting conversations about football with the majority of the people that came in. And to their credit, they knew everyone's names! In my mind, this definitely speaks to them having a loyal customer base. The bad: I was not a big fan of the Tavern Pie. As I am learning, Tavern Pie is a very thin crust pie cooked well. TJ's version isn't terrible, but it's not one that I'd run to buy again. The sauce wasn't as flavorful and all that cooking took the flavor out of the cheese. Not sure why it wasn't as flavorful overall if it's the same ingredients just cooked longer. Maybe this your thing? It's nice to try but its not for me. Overall Rating: C+ My score probably should have been a smidge higher but when I try your specialty and it's just average, you get points taken off.

The pear salad was supposed to come with goat cheese, but it barely had any. It was basically a bunch of arugula with grilled chicken on top. The lemon dressing it came with was bland. The salad needed more goat cheese and a better dressing. Franco's favorite was ravioli Parmesan with shrimp fra Diavolo. The marinara sauce to the ravioli had no flavor and the fra Diavolo had no heat. The shrimp wasn't even breaded which was very odd. Our waitress wasn't the best either. We had to ask for water and more. coffee. She didn't even know what some dishes on the menu were. Needless to say I don't recommend, and I wouldn't come back.

Instead of being honest and saying "hey we forgot to make your order", they instead ignore you and pretend you're not there watching them. Another 20 min later, the guy comes over, after 5 more pickup orders out the door while I sit on the stool looking like a jackass, says "I had to remake the pie"! Bullshit man! I have been standing here watching you for the past 30 mins and saw you make my pie 10 min after I walked in! Finally get the pie 5 min after that and they offer me a free 2 liter for my wait. Fair enough, I'll take it. Then I get home and open the pie box and it looks like this! Horrible undercooked slop! I call them up and tell them I want a new pie. He says no problem and will deliver it to me, where I literally live 2 min down the road. 40 min later, no show so I call back. He says he sent the driver 10 min ago and should be there any min. I give it another 30 min and still no show. I call back up again and said, if my pie isn't here in the next 2 min, I'm coming back for my money. He said he will call the delivery driver. 10 more minutes go by and I just go back to the restaurant. Guess what, the delivery guy is there with my pie!! Absolutely ridiculous!! A waste of almost two hours! Never, ever again will I order from here! They don't know what the hell they are doing! Shame the old owners sold to them. Back to Torino! The only reason I'm giving them an additional star is that he did give me the cold to the bone pie and my full refund along with the free 2 liter.

From the outside it looks like a simple storefront but on the inside, it was a beautifully decorated restaurant. We were welcomed and seated promptly. The server came over and greeted us and asked if we had a bottle for her to open, which we didn't. Unbeknownst to us the restaurant is BYOB. When we shared that it was our first time there she gave us some time to look at the menu. I ended up ordering shrimp parm with linguini, and I asked for the linguini to have white sauce as opposed to the red sauce. She brought over water, a bread basket and bruschetta for the table. I usually prefer lime with my water. They didn't have lime, but she did bring over lemon wedges. While waiting for our meal my company had to step out and by the time the food arrived they weren't back. I asked the sever if I could get a plate to cover their food and she was super accommodating. Upon my companies return the server, even offered to reheat the food for them, which I thought was a nice touch. We declined, but we were still appreciative of the option. My food was very delicious. The white sauce for the linguini was amazing. One of the better Alfredo sauces I've had in this lifetime. The shrimp Parmesan was so so. I felt like it could've used maybe a little bit more seasoning but honestly paired with the pasta. I had no complaints. The restaurant definitely has a family feel and I got the impression that a lot of the patrons are regulars. I don't live in the area, but if I'm ever there again, I would certainly return.
