Three Forks fine dining is what this place is all about. Very top-notch and exclusive. Our excellent server, Joseph, was all about stories of experience, travel and longevity. A truly fascinating individual, whose stories about his experiences only enhanced the exceptional cuisine here at the Sacajawea Hotel. He was very knowledgeable about the history, the chefs and folklore. Every detail was addressed. Not a spoon out of place. Even the dinner bread came with three different spreads. We tasted the beet salad, the chips and caviar, the bison ribs, scallops and lamb rack. Everything was presented artfully and proudly. As the place got busy, the service dwindled, but was extremely detailed non less. The Sac is a bar located in the hotel. We have ate there so many times & the food is very good. Last night we were there & didn't notice that there now is a gratuity added on to the bill. Pompey's Grill at the Sacajawea Hotel is a gem. The hotel and restaurant are throwbacks to an earlier era. The menu at Pompey's Grill has the traditional fare Montana fare such as excellent steaks and potatoes etc. it also has some interesting items that are definitely modern. When I have been there, the food and service have been excellent. The bar like most everything at the hotel has a rustic elegance. They make fine cocktails. The service there is excellent too. A trip to the hotel and Pompey's Grill is highly recommended. read more

We had a wonderful dinner and the service was great. We started with the smoked trout rillettes appetizer - delicious! The meal included a sizable bread basket with a variety of spreads/dips, so you may want to forgo an appetizer. Dinner was Cajun blackened beef tips for one and the root beer-glazed pork porterhouse for the other. Both were tasty (nice Cajun spice on the beef tips and sweet glaze on the pork). Portion size was generous - enough for a meal if you're hungry, but probably some leftovers to take home. Despite the generous dinner portions, we decided to split a coconut cream pie dessert. It was an amazing finish to a great meal. We were there mid-week and early in the dinner hour. My husband and I have been coming here very routinely for the past 8 years and it has always been one of our favorite places to go for a nice meal. It saddens me to say that it is no longer the place it once was. The service was good, but the food was terrible. The food quality has plummeted and their prices have increased substantially, which would be okay if the food was up to par. They must be sourcing their meat, seafood and produce from somewhere else now and the chef must have changed. The grill is always delicious! Honestly, I've never had a bad meal here! Yes, not cheap but SO good! The Sacajawea hotel is located in Three Forks Montana and is a "hidden" gem. Both the bars serve food as well, but we ate in the dining room! Our waitress Sharon, was awesome! She never let us think we were not important to her. She was knowledgeable about the bar, the food and so friendly! We each had the house salad, it is pretty big so consider splitting it. I had the Halibut cheeks with the yummy sauce (have no idea what it was ) but there was crispy prosciutto and potatoes with a bit of arugula on top!! I also ordered 2 scallops on the side! My sister had the top sirloin, perfectly cooked, with potatoes, spaghetti squash and broccolini. My mom had the scallops. All of our food was amazing! We all had desserts which were also amazing! The Russian honey cake was the best in my opinion (yes we shared ) it would be even better with a tart lemon drizzle! The only thing I would change about the entire meal is a little less salt on my sticky toffee cake. At the beginning it was fine, toward the end it was a bit too much. Beautiful restaurant, decent food. I had their beef tenderloin, Oscar style. Potatoes were served roasted but lacked flavor. Steak was cooked well but I didn't care for the Oscar topping. Great restaurant with impeccable service, we both had steaks and they were done to perfection. They also have a great beer and wine list and daily specials you won't find on the menu. My husband and I came here on our first night out in two years, after having our two under two. Jessie sat us and she was incredible to chat with throughout the night, you could tell she genuinely cared about her business. Amanda was our server and she went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. We made reservations to have dinner at this restaurant in the historic hotel on Fathers Day. It appeared upscale and unique based upon the menu and prices. This was unfortunately not the case. Our service was mostly adequate, but nothing more. There were at least two times we just wondered what happened to our waiter since he just disappeared and we were left waiting for awhile including the long wait for our to go desserts and our check. My food was lukewarm at best. The meat was lukewarm, the sides weren't even that hot. I need my food hot or I don't enjoy it. My husband's wasn't much better, but he is more ok with it than me. The waiter returned my plate to have it warmed, but the only difference was the meat was hot. I ended up eating a few bites and taking the rest home. The ambiance was nice. They had a backlit menu, which I have never seen before and thought was awesome. The bill came with backlights as well. Overall, this is a restaurant that charges enough for you to think it is upscale, but they did not provide the product or services to go with that. I would not go here again. read more

I was passing by and heard about this restaurant. The food is great, but the service was lacking. I had to go from my table to request refills on drinks, get a leftover box and to request my bill. Moved here two months ago. We heard a lot about Pompeys Grill. A family member came to visit so it was time to show off a little. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. We had local beer and cocktails before dinner. The Huckleberry Lemonade is great. For an appetizer, we had the Brussels sprouts. I haven't eaten sprouts in 40 years. They were great. I had the bison ribeye and wife had the special, a tenderloin steak. Everything was excellent and prepared exactly to order. The service was also great. Thursday features a three course meal. Tonight was a delicious beet salad with local goat cheese, pistachios, and arugula. The main course was halibut over white beans. Dessert was a chocolate tort with Bailey's drizzle or poke. All very good! Mr ordered a steak and a side of pan seared scallops. Red potatoes and summer squash with broccoli were the veggie garnish. The potatoes were dry, butter or gravy or au jus could have helped them. Everything else was delish. We were seated in a bar booth, we had reservations for the evening so not sure why we were seated here but the booths are nice and romantic. The conversation at the bar was a huge distraction from the great food and ambiance. Why are Christians so intrigued by strip bars and adult stores? They went on and on about it. Seems from the bartender they are Three Forks 'finest' and come in several times a week. Well, this time they were obnoxious - we almost went three stars because of this but it is not the servers fault or the chefs. Excellent meal! I had the rack of lamb which had a delicious cherry sauce and came with fantastic horseradish potatoes and perfectly cooked broccoli. My boyfriend had the Bison ribeye which was the outstanding special- came with caramelized onions on top and was spectacular. I am pretty sure this is the best restaurant in Montana. We have eaten here a number of times across the years, though most recently we ate here for our anniversary and the night before our anniversary. Both dinners were just fantastic. The atmosphere is definitely fancy and lots of beautiful finishing touches. Everything feels 5 star. The first night was prime rib night, so we partook of that special. The meat was flavorful and the sides were delicious (bacon wrapped potato and broccolini with squash). I ordered rare and it was a little over (more like medium/medium rare), but it was still very tasty and juicy so it wasn't a big deal. The bread thing they present to you is a really special touch. They bring out french bread and three tapenades, and they're all really unique and flavorful. I have a dairy allergy and they made sure everything was perfectly dairy free and wonderful. The second night I wanted the bison short ribs and they were out (NOOOOO! But it was 8pm). But, I got the small baseball cut tenderloin with the side of scallops and it was absolutely wonderful. The scallops are transcendent. Just tender and flavorful and perfect. The steak was great, cooked rare. I had a salad both nights with the honey balsamic - wonderful dressing. Our server both nights was named Theodore and he took great care of us, and, as mentioned, he took care of my dairy concerns. He even remembered it all the next night when we were in and he was very nice to us! In the past we had the bison short ribs and steak one time, and the next time we did the crab night. All was wonderful. That's why I wanted the bison short ribs again! I guess we'll just have to come back soon :). read more

The backlit menu was fun, and helped see the menu in a dark booth :) My husband and I had steaks (sirloin and bison) which were tender and flavorful. The bread and tapenade selections were a delicious start to the meal. The pricing was surprisingly fair, based on the quality and deliciousness of the food.
