They also have a small food menu - philly cheesesteaks, store bought frozen pizzas, and pasties. Jody was our bartender and she was so kind. We mentioned we were hungry and she gave us a suggestion of another place that was open in the next town over that served burgers. Without us even asking she called their bar to make sure they were still open and cooking. A great place to stop by if you're in the area of traveling through.

It's all perfect. Eggs and potatoes are perfectly seasoned to the point I don't need to add a thing. Bacon perfect, biscuit flat-top grilled so it's got a buttery crust. My husband and sleepy toddler were in the car so I ordered a steak with veggies (asparagus) and a burger (also with asparagus on the side) to go. I sipped my beer, enjoyed watching the activity behind the bar, and occasionally looked up at the hunting show playing on tv. We were staying at a hotel and didn't have a steak knife with us, so they were nice enough to slice up the steak so it'd be easy to eat. We enjoyed our dinner and then enjoyed the final few slices of steak for breakfast. It's obvious the building and equipment have seen many years, but that fits with my expectation for a saloon in a small town in Montana. It could have been nice to find a shiny and updated space, but it wouldn't have felt quite right. I think they'll be happy to make some upgrades at some point, though. The only downside was that they forgot about me when it was time to pay. One of the bartenders (owners?) gave me my food bag but didn't have the card reader with him, so he said he'd deliver some food to a table and be right back. I then watched him take other orders, teach another bartender how to make a drink, etc. At one point the man who grabbed the seat next to me got a menu so I tried to get their attention, but they walked away without checking on me. Eventually (10+ minutes later?) I got a different bartender's attention and was able to pay. Lesson learned? Unless I'm in no hurry, don't keep the tab open (even if I am considering ordering a second beer) and just pay early.

There is an old-fashioned long shuffleboard against the wall. How often do you see one of those? The bar is stocked with the usual beers and liquor. The whiskies stand out. There is an impressive number of good whiskies on the menu. Bourbons are well represented here. They make up the lion's share of the whiskies, Prices are very reasonable! Given the impressive decor and nice collection of whiskies, you might expect the prices to be high. They aren't. The ambiance is inviting. Sheridan is a small, friendly town and this bar's atmosphere is the same. I really like the town and this bar. The service is outstanding. The servers are friendly and attentive. If you're open to conversation, they are too. I could spend a lot of time here. I highly recommend The Stockman!
